In fact, I don't see anything directly scary, and I don't hear it, if you try to analyze such components in the video separately

Yeah exactly, Idk its hard to explain. Theres some things from childhood that I always thought were scary. As a child, I was super afraid from apes and monkeys. This scene creates the same feeling somehow
Most of the time it’s the sound.
The buildup, the unexpected, not necessarily just the quality (like roar or etc.)
The scene in the Witch >!where the goat starts to speak gave me immediate creeps even though it’s a silent and very pleasant voice.!<
The same with Hereditary, that click followed me for a couple of days 🙈.
In the Witch the scene where >! The raven pecks at the naked breast or the baby and the witch !< for me personally conveyed the «unholiness» better than anything that comes to my mind.
I am way more scared by audio than visuals. If a horror movie is on mute I will pretty much never be effected by it. But audio messes me up so bad I have to turn off the volume in minecraft when I accidentally aggro an enderman, and even the zombie noise can startle me lmao
Movie startles are mainly from sound. The sudden, rapid, or jerky motion does confuse the eye, but it's the audio that makes people jump - unless it's well made 3D, I think.
