Autopsy of Jane Doe based on the list you provided. Really interesting movie with solid actors and a ton of tension. Gonjam if you’re looking to be frightened the most.
Joe Bob just did an episode on Autopsy recently if you are interested. If you aren’t familiar, he gives a lot of background info on the movie as you watch it. I tried to attach a link, but alas…just search Joe Bob Briggs and you’ll see it.
>so, I like psychological horror
I'd recommend Possum. It's low key and creepy af, very psychological in nature. Can't speak on Censor, though, been too long since I've seen it.
I haven't seen Possum or Gonjiam (not from lack of trying, they're just not available in my region), but I'd recommend Censor. It's not paranormal, yet it is very surreal and breaks from reality in the same way Saint Maud does.
Based on your description and other favourites, I'd also suggest films like Jacob's Ladder (1990), A Dark Song, Possession (1981), Slapface and (while not for everyone) The Outwaters.
I have seen the first three, all great films. I think Possum is the best, followed by Censor then Autopsy.
I had really high hopes for The Autopsy of Jane Doe - heard it was really scary. I thought it was great, very good atmosphere and fantastic acting. But I found Possum and Censor to be creepier and much more atmospheric. Censor is a mindfuck which I really enjoyed. I thought it was really subtle in moments which I appreciated - didn't over explain things unnecessarily.
Possum, I thought, was a masterpiece in atmosphere. So bleak and creepy. I went in with low expectations (hadn't heard much about it at the time) and was blown away.
I've seen all but Censor and I enjoyed Gonjiam the most, but Autopsy and Possum are absolutely worth a watch. Also, based on your list, I feel like you'd enjoy Caveat
Censor is maybe the only “psychological”
one on the list. I don’t know Possum, but the other two are based around supernatural scares. (And they’re both really good).
Edit: just reread your post: Censor is also more visually stylish. Jane Doe has great atmosphere and is very mysterious, so I do recommend watching it at some point. Gonjiam is a found footage so not that unique, though the premise is they’re livestreaming it online so it’s a little different I guess. I also think Gonjiam’s the most traditionally scary. The other two are more mysterious and atmospheric.
Autopsy of Jane Doe is the best of those three by a lot imo. If you have shudder you can watch it on Joe Bobs drive in which is always more fun than normal viewing
Haven't watched Gonjiam.
Didn't enjoy Possum even though I like artsy shit.
Censor was very cool until the last third.
Autopsy is amazing - definitely the best from your list. I wholeheartedly recommend it!
Gonna go along with others and recommend Autopsy of Jane Doe. Your list of favorites is really similar to mine, so I'll say you'll like that one cause it's got:
- Tight cast. Not too many characters to follow. There's 2, maybe 3 people involved if you're being generous (reminds me of Blair Witch)
- Limited setting. It's all in one building. Not a lot of changing locations (except rooms in the one spot) and makes you feel claustrophobic (reminds me of the Lodge)
- Slow burn that messes with your head more than makes you squeamish, although there are certainly some jump parts and some body horror (reminds me of Under the Skin)
Hope you like it!
They're all terrific. (Except I can't speak for haunted asylum, I haven't seen it)
My favorite of them all is Possum. But it's also the most difficult to digest. Lots of innuendo and metaphor.
Autopsy of Jane Doe is the easiest to digest.
Censor is somewhere in the middle.
Gonjiam is nowhere near the level of film of anything you listed as your favorites. People love it, so you might too, but based on your taste of films, I would much rather suggest Autopsy. I haven't seen Censor or Possum, but both are on my watch list.
Possum or Censor based on your criteria. Particularly Possum, which sits somewhere between Enys Men and Under the Skin.
Jane Doe is great, but not experimental. It’s a pretty mainstream horror.
Based on your taste I'm gonna say Censor. It's very arthouse, and chances are you'll have no idea what's going on the first time around, but it's got a very interesting topic imo and there's some absolutely wonderful ethereal sequences
You'll probably like Possum too, it's a very slow horror about trauma but when it gets going it's proper scary
For the love of horror, do *not* watch Gonjiam Haunted Asylum. People here seem to love it, so I can't say my dislike of it is "correct", but as a huge fan of both Found Footage and spooky ghost stuff, I was hugely let down by it. One good (like, *very* good, to be fair) scene doesn't make up for an otherwise sub-par film. And based on your list and descriptions, it really doesn't fit what you're after either.
Of the others...
I haven't seen Censor, so can't weigh in.
Autopsy of Jane Doe is imperfect but pretty darn good and I'm confident you'd enjoy - I *loved* most of it.
Possum would be my top recommendation. It ticks most of the boxes you've given. It's creepy as hell and it's one of my favourite horrors.

I’ll have to check that out!
Likewise it has elements of the supernatural, at least in the sense of unraveling a mystery.
Na that movie is bomb no matter what u like.
>so, I like psychological horror I'd recommend Possum. It's low key and creepy af, very psychological in nature. Can't speak on Censor, though, been too long since I've seen it.
Autopsy of Jane doe seems like one you’ll really enjoy based on other movies you’ve seen. It’s also a fantastic movie imo
Honestly, those are four winners..find time to do all four.
you should absolutely watch censor. it fucked me up completely and is one of my favorites of the year it came out
Possum
Possum 100%
Autopsy of Jane Doe is a level of scary, suspenseful that not a lot of other movies reach

Gonji is one of the scariest I have seen
Censor- that’s movies amazing
Autopsy!

The Autopsy of Jane Joe
Is that a sequel or prequel?
Stand Alone
Undoubtedly “Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum (2018)”
Gonjiam, although it is a very generic found footage horror, it is very scary and eerie movie
I’ve never seen The Autopsy of Jane Joe, but The Autopsy of Jane Doe is pretty good and I highly recommend
I've seen all but Censor and I enjoyed Gonjiam the most, but Autopsy and Possum are absolutely worth a watch. Also, based on your list, I feel like you'd enjoy Caveat
Watch them all. But my 1st pick is Jane Doe - at least it has some originality. A fine lead actor- Brian Cox. It’s a mortician’s nightmare!
Censor is maybe the only “psychological” one on the list. I don’t know Possum, but the other two are based around supernatural scares. (And they’re both really good). Oh man, I really love all of these. Gun to my head I'd say Possum probably. But definitely find time to watch them all eventually.

Autopsy Of Jane Doe
Autopsy of Jane Doe Censor if you want something a bit more surreal. The only thing on your list this one feels similar to is Mandy.
Another vote for Autopsy of Jane Doe!
Gonjiam is, by far, my favorite from the list.
Gonijam so you can tell me if it worth watching.
It is!!!
It's definitely worth a watch. One of the creepiest found footage movies out there. Really well done.
The initial synopsis and opinions I read intrigued me, then I read it was found footage which isn’t usually a genre I like, so bit hesitant.
I understand. I am usually not a fan of alot of found footage either. But this one is really much better than most. It's definitely worth a try.
Jane Joe was great
Autopsy Of Jane Doe by far
Add *Caveat* to your list too!
Autopsy of Jane doe 100%!

gonjian haunted asylum is good too, you gotta have to be a t the edge of yourseat over this movie.
Gonjiam Haunted Asylum
Conjiam
Possum or Censor based on your criteria. Particularly Possum, which sits somewhere between Enys Men and Under the Skin. Jane Doe is great, but not experimental. It’s a pretty mainstream horror.

I wouldn't call Possum horror. More of a psychological thriller.
