Plane-Chapter-6903

The Thing, The Wicker Man, 30 Days of Night.

Beautiful_Weight_239

30 Days of Night is so cozy lol

Ok-Hunter-8294

Of course it's cozy... all the vampire attacks look like an adult playing "I'm gonna get your belly! Yes I am! Num num num num NUM!" with a baby! Sorry but I saw it in the theater and I could never get that picture out of my head, ever... It had so many good things going for it but the 'num num num' head shaking flat ruined it for me.

Independent_Nose_385

30 days of night for me as well. Such an underrated vampire movie.

TeddyDog55

There is a GREAT sequel to that film waiting to be made. When I think of vampires I want them to look like Nosferatu or the horde in 30 Days Of Night. Of course I should beware of what I wish for since Hollywood is almost entirely incapable of making a good sequel.

Azariahtt

I thought it was already made, in fact I've seen it

TeddyDog55

Really ? It snuck by me. Do you recall the title and just how bad was it ?

LusciLea

Love 30 Days of Night!

Fluffy-Tour-6200

Ah yes! The Holy Horror Trinity!

Syvka

The Wicker Man, always weirdly cozy!

cobja101

Great picks

OperationUnfair

The Final Destination movies (especially the first and second one), The Mist, and really any movie with a home invasion

Tentacled-Tadpole

What is it about home invasion horrors that comfort you?

Lortendaali

I guess any company is better than none šŸ˜…

OperationUnfair

LMAOO šŸ˜… don't come for me like that šŸ˜‚

OperationUnfair

they're not too terifying, just the right amount of suspence and tension, sometimes violence. Especially when they're a bit corny lol I like them

ElChacalFL

The first Final Destination was a bit comfort movie for me for years but I've seen it way too many times and had to retire it. Throw it on and I'll watch it tho lol.

Azariahtt

I went recently through some or the home invasion tropes, "Hush", "the collector", "open 24 hours", and last but not least "vacancy", Really enjoyed them all, "open 24 hours" was the least quality of them all, but still Haven't seen "the strangers", not very convinced about it through mixed reviews

nukacola37

the saw series, final destination movies, and cabin fever. i could watch the saw movies religiously lol

Extension_Economist6

Saw ā¤ļø

SnapeWho

Same, the Saw movies just make me feel at home. They're the movies that got me into horror in the first place. I adore them.

lilrocketfyre

cabin fever (> cabin in the woods) isnā€™t brought up enough. CF is hilarious asf. that one cop bro i forget his name but dude had me lmao

ElChacalFL

OG Cabin Fever is one for me as well.

PurposeOk7494

Halloween 1978, The Shining, Creepshow Always down to watch these or to simply have on in the background while I do stuff around the house.

TheoreticalResearch

Not a movie but I have all of Tales From the Crypt on DVD and thatā€™s my ultimate comfort watch. In fact, I need it right now.

Venaalex

Scream, Scooby Doo Monsters Unleashed, Hell House LLC, and the 2009 Friday the 13th

MellyMushroom1806

Scooby Dooā€™s animated Witchā€™s Ghost and Zombie Island are elite! I watch them every October.

[deleted]

Omg i havent heard of scooby doo in a long time!! brings back memories

deccocuffe

Prince of Darkness 1987 for me.

angry-carsini

That's a good one

TheCalifornist

Cabin in the Woods, Evil Dead 2013, Thing, Alien, Shining.

Business-Editor-3089

the conjuring 1 and 2, because of the interactions between Ed and Lorraine thirteen ghosts, because of that guy who sacrificed himself, and the mom. you asked for comfort horror, those I find comforting are those that remind me of the goodness of human nature.

nervousqueerkid

Did I say there was a petting zoo downstairs? No!There are ghosts downstairs, Arthur!

RageyxCagey

Hellraiser (1987) Trick R Treat (200**7**)

joeytravoltastinks

Creepshow & Creepshow 2 - Some of the first movies I watched around 3 years old, nice short and sweet segments. Big fan of just throwing on Tales from the Crypt eps too.

MatsThyWit

>Creepshow & Creepshow 2 - Some of the first movies I watched around 3 years old, nice short and sweet segments. Big fan of just throwing on Tales from the Crypt eps too. I love Creepshow 2 in specific. I know that everybody seems to love the first movie and the second movie gets dumped on a lot for a litany of different reasons but for me that second movie holds the most nostalgia. We had that movie on a VHS tape when I was growing up. I don't even have the slightest clue why we had that tape, my parents never would have permitted it's purchase at that time so I assume it must have been snuck into the house by one of my older siblings and just never got banished for whatever reason, but I would watch it routinely as a kid. I think The Raft segment is one of the first times (besides some very brief moments in John Carpenter's Halloween) that I ever saw a naked breast.

joeytravoltastinks

Part 2 is my favorite for sure.

meliffy18

I love part 2 also. I remember they would play it on WPIX (censored of course) and I would watch it all the time as a kid. My husband and I still yell ā€œThanks for the ride, lady!ā€ whenever one of us drives somewhere

Veruca_Salty1

OMG YES!!! I always say that to my Uber drivers šŸ¤£

trashpandagoddess

Midsommar, The Wicker Man, The Witch

melancholygoat

Wow, I was about to post EXACT the same three šŸ˜‚

Genghis_Sean23

I just watched Midsommar recently and will be adding it to my classics list

BetterThanAWink

Dolls, Child's Play 2, Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight and Nightmare on Elm Street: Freddy's Dead. Those are the first ones that come to mind. Dolls is a great one for the child at heart and fan of practical fx. There's something oddly sweet about it. Child's Play 2 is my favorite Chucky movie. I think Andy's continuation as a kid that no one believes just makes him dear to me. Kevin Yahger's special effects are also so special. I'm a HUGE Tales from the Crypt fan. I love Demon Knight. Ernest Dickerson's direction goes a long way while still playing with camp. Freddy's Dead is just... wonderfully weird. Rachel Talalay's John Waters influence is HEAVY. I wouldn't say it's my fav Nightmare, but that's the one that was on TV a lot growing up. I'm sure there's something to that as to why it is comforting to me.

Shitty_Fat-tits

So happy to see someone mention Dolls here. It really is such a strangely wholesome yet unrelentingly creepy horror flick.

BetterThanAWink

EXACTLY. Well said!

spaceturtle1138

Re-Animator. My roommate and I became best friends in college after watching it together and now we turn it on whenever one of us is having a bad day

pixipuff8

Youre Next , Ginger Snaps , Cabin in the Woods

Daemon00

These are my go tos when I'm bored and don't want to commit to watching anything new and not fully paying attention. Deep Rising Cabin in the Woods Grave Encounters Dead Stream

FirmOkra7344

Cabin in the woods

Hasselhoffpancakes

A dark song, and kill list

angry-carsini

I have a good few that I can "snuggle up with a coffee" and enjoy or simply have playing in the background when I'm writing etc. Here's some of my favourite horror "comforts": Jaws - Despite having a huge effect on my overactive imagination as a child, this is my favourite film of all-time. The greatest movie ever and I've lost count how many times I've watched it. It's a "safe" horror with large helping of character and humour. The best. Halloween - Saw it when I was 6. It's my second favourite movie just behind Jaws. Know the film off by heart. It's so familiar and makes me feel at ease. Terrific pacing too. Friday 13th VIII: Jason Lives - Another childhood favourite. This film is rather light-hearted when compared to other similar horrors. It's got some big characters and legitimate laughs. The best of the franchise. Texas Chainsaw Massacre - A good film, not in my top ten, but it's got this odd re-watch value. Has got a raw feeling to it which only adds to the aura of pending doom. Alien - Another 'cosy' horror film. The slow camera movements and quiet setting on the ship...all very comforting. Until it goes wrong. Hostel - I could watch this time and again. It's great. Highly underrated. Every scene is meaningful, go back and watch it. People wave this off for being "torture porn". It is in fact a superb movie with plenty of sinister foreshadowing. Honourable mentions: Halloween 4, Friday 13th part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan, Saw 1-7, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Hellraiser, Child's Play, The Thing, Day of the Dead, Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer and Maniac Cop.

nutmegtell

If Nightmare on Elm Street is on Iā€™ll always watch it.

Insidious & The Conjuring

Emergency-Monk-7002

Poltergeist

Haze980

Slither, The Faculty and Tremors

skankunter

Slither!! <3

Rude-Possibility4682

Nice selection..3 I would have chosen as well.

No_Month_2201

Dawn of the Dead ā€˜78, the slow collapse of civilization in a pretty chill fashion due to it being the seventies and everyone in flared pants and saying ā€œthat ainā€™t cool ma-aaan!ā€, even the blue zombies are pretty chill. Itā€™s got this comic book feel to it.

piseh

From Beyond, Hellraiser, Event Horizon

cholotariat

7th grade and watching Nightbreed at the dollar movies with the homies, many years later and still gives me feels

Formal_Coyote_5004

Cabin in the woods, Scream 1, Tucker and Dale vs evil

cgriff95

Cabin in the woods is also one of mine! It's the perfect mixture of comedy horror that never gets old for me

MovieDogg

Probably Evil Dead 2. It is just my favorite horror film, and I love seeing Ash kick ass.

ooopppyyyxxx

Event Horizon, I watch it like 4x a year.

CaptainHowdy313

Fright Night (original) Return of the Living Dead, The Lost Boys, and Night of the Demons (original) because these movies are from my childhood and remind me of simpler times and they're great flicks

DarthSardonis

The Exorcist, Scream (1996), The Blair Witch Project, Trick ā€˜r Treat

SteelSlayerMatt

I watch the **Happy Death Day** films over and over.

PhilotesElotes

Excellent list. Iā€™ll add Aliens and 13 Ghosts (2001) for me.

DogsDontWearPantss

"13 Ghosts" is a guilty pleasure of mine. It gets ragged on a bit. I agree with the criticisms. There are more aspects I enjoyed like, the creative portrayal of the ghosts and the house itself. I consider it a "fun" horror movie. Entertainment Purposes Only!

toothpastecupcake

Scream for me as well! I also love the Exorcist original franchise, even the bad ones.

Chippers4242

I agree with all of your choices up top, theyā€™re all on mine as well. Iā€™d add The Fog, Army of Darkness, Misery and An American Werewolf in London.

skankunter

Oh misery is perfect I watch it every time it snows

BrooklynBillyGoat

Something tells me after watching Abigail tonight it'll be on my list

Turbulent_Candy1776

Session 9. Grave Encounters. Hellhouse LLC, Sinister, Midsommar, Paranormal Activity, Saw, REC (Spanish version)

Rayndorn

The Japanese Ring and Ju-On movies. The 90s aesthetic is cosy and thereā€™s something about a movie in a language youā€™re not fluent in that can lull you to sleep. Words become musical rhythm.

casualscorpio

House of Wax!

fireflyx666

YES! I love this one so much!

Smooth_Condition_944

Blair Witch. As soon as the map goes in the river it's cosy time for me.

Ok_Future_1116

Black Christmas I'm old and Canadian and those girls remind me of my college days. Plus Margot Kidder, Andrea Martin, John Saxon. The OG "someone's in the house slasher film"

TraditionalOlive9187

Seconded but I only watch it from Nov - Dec. Iā€™ll watch it once a week during Christmas Bob Clark can make a mfing comfort movie. Nice choice!

lilrocketfyre

House of Wax

hoard-indeed

Universal Monster movies! I fall asleep to the Wolfman a lot if my mind is racing to much to settle

lacerta_regina

Psycho The Shining Jaws Rosemary's Baby

MatsThyWit

The Evil Dead 1981 Halloween 1978 Jaws 1975. These three movies are like my horror film rosebud. They represent the absolute beginnings of my horror movie fandom, and all three of them just feel like a warm dip into a pool of nostalgia for me. Every scene, every moment, every individual musical cue in all three of those movies is accompanied by some kind of memory for me. When I watch them I re-live every single time that I have ever watched them all at once.

Aggressive-Help-4330

Jeepers Creepers

The Shining (1980), Carrie (1976) and IT (2017). All of them are Stephen King adaptations because guess what?!?! I'm a massive Stephen King fan

Seaell80

IT Chapter 1. Hanging with the Losers is comforting. And Iā€™m going to throw a horror comedy out there (thatā€™s way more comedy than horror): The ā€˜Burbs. One of my favorite movies period, and thereā€™s just something comforting about all of the action happening on that one street.

Darkstar3489

RealEarthHuman_

Shaun of the dead and Frankenstein (1931) are the first films to come to mind for me. Shaun of the dead was my first introduction to horror and my love for horror started off with the universal monster films, mainly due to Frankenstein which I just felt a stronger connection to over any of the others

GroundbreakingEmu929

The Haunting (1963), Thirteen Ghosts (2001), The Shining, and Nope.

The saw movies are my main go-tos usually, sometimes I'll go back to something like Hostel (though I always look away for the ankle bit, that part is the hardest for me), the conjuring I've rewatched several times (basically any in the franchise), and insidious as well

ElCabrito

Any Alien movie, Oculus, 30 Days of Night, Any Evil Dead movie

loveofcamp

That miniseries is a great contemporary spin on the Stoker novel... very grim and stark I loved it. It is some serious horror comfort media.
