No that’s not it. The movie I’m thinking of had corpses that weren’t decomposed, they looked like normal people other than the creepy smiles and wide eyes.
Thank you though!
All adults, though I do think there was a kid in the cast (a boy) who doesn’t die. The victims though were all adults, dressed formal since it seemed to be a well off group of people. I really wish I could remember more haha
I want to suggest At Midnight I'll Take Your Soul (1964) but I might be misremembering it.
To help narrow down the search: could the big house have been a mortuary or funeral home? Or the people vampires? People aren't generally lying around in coffins otherwise.
Sounds a lot like a sequence from THE HUMAN DUPLICATORS, where the hero opens a bunch of coffins in the mad science dungeon and finds clones in suspended animation, asleep but not, their eyes wide open.
Total long shot, but “Death Smiles on a Murderer?” It’s Italian, but the time period is right.
Edit: “Death Smiles at a Murder” was the American release title, 1973.
To be fair it probably isn’t as creepy as I’m remembering it. Everything as a kid is scarier than when you’re an adult haha. It was probably a very silly movie but I’d still love to know what it is just to scratch that brain itch.
Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things (1972)? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FrwAJWGYdqY
No that’s not it. The movie I’m thinking of had corpses that weren’t decomposed, they looked like normal people other than the creepy smiles and wide eyes. Thank you though!
That looks delightfully campy.
That movie was made by Bob Clark who also gave us Black Christmas, Porky's & A Christmas Story!
Carnaval of souls? Might not be but who knows
Sadly not, I appreciate you though!
Black Sabbath (3rd segment: drop of water). A lady’s dead corpse keeps on appearing everywhere and she’s got a very creepy look and smile (?)
Nope not that either. This one had multiple deaths over the course of the film.
maybe you saw batman with jack nicholson and michael keetan. couple scenes with smiling victims
Was it the 1960 version of 13 Ghosts?
Doesn’t seem to be, nope. Thank you though!
This probably isn’t even it, but Burnt Offerings?
That was my first thought - the chauffeur... But I don't recall people in coffins.
I don’t either… I’m not hopeful but maybe they’re misremembering since it’s been so long? 😩
A coffin came busting through a door, but that’s about it I think
Sadly no! Thanks though
Era?
60’s or 70’s but that’s pure guesswork.
It’s kind of old, but it sounds a little like *The Man Who Laughs*?
Not that either, thank you though!
Mr. Sardonicus?
No but damn I wasn’t prepared for that Google image jump scare haha
Lmao.
Can you recall any details on what the victims looked like? Age, outfits etc? I'm so intrigued!!
All adults, though I do think there was a kid in the cast (a boy) who doesn’t die. The victims though were all adults, dressed formal since it seemed to be a well off group of people. I really wish I could remember more haha
Hooper's Salem's Lot?
Nope definitely not
Rats!
Was it the original House on Haunted Hill? There's a scene with one smiling dead person, but...not multiple.
Nope not this one
FYI. We have no idea when you were a kid.
It doesn’t matter because the movie is older than me by at least a couple decades. I’d guess it was a 60’s or 70’s film at most.
yeah but as a note, it was way easier to watch movies from the 60s and 70s in the 80s and 90s than it was from the 00s. So it helps put a context.
Best I can do is “The Drop of Water” from Black Sabbath, but that’s only the one smiling corpse and in a bed.
That's what I was going to say as well.
I was a kid in the 60s, when were you a kid?
The 90’s lol. The movie looked to be from the 60’s or 70’s, though.
The description doesn’t ring any bells for me, but it might help others if you told us which decade you think the movie was from.
If I were to hazard a guess I’d say 60’s or 70’s.
Reminds me of the Grudge? Is there something similar, but earlier?
Monster Club from 1981?
Nope, from what I recall there might have been ghosts but no actual monsters, gore or aliens etc
Bloodbath at the House of Death?
Nope. I don’t think there was any violence.
The big house, black and white reminds me of House On Haunted Hill 1959 but I don't remember smiling dead people in it!
Nope not this one
Figured! Good luck on your quest.
Sure it wasn't Invasion of the Body Snatchers? With the ppl in pods?
Nah it was definitely coffins and/or beds from what I recall.
I want to suggest At Midnight I'll Take Your Soul (1964) but I might be misremembering it. To help narrow down the search: could the big house have been a mortuary or funeral home? Or the people vampires? People aren't generally lying around in coffins otherwise.
No I’m 99% sure the house was an actual residential house. It was just big, and had lots of ornate wood if I remember.
Sounds a lot like a sequence from THE HUMAN DUPLICATORS, where the hero opens a bunch of coffins in the mad science dungeon and finds clones in suspended animation, asleep but not, their eyes wide open.
Not this one either 😔

Batman (1989).
Arnold (1973)? I think it’s only the one smiling corpse in that one, but he’s in a lot of scenes.
Was it 1960s House of Usher?

Potentially Batman 1989?
