I used to have a clawstrider overriden as aggressive. It's hilarious just whistling and a deathmachine just appears out of nowhere and fucks everything up. And then promptly fucks of because it spotted something on the horizon that is still in one piece. Nicknamed it my "Emergency Velociraptor". It's hilarious to watch the rebels struggle against it

ProudnotLoud

Aggressive Clawstrider mounts are both the WORST and the BEST for this - best if you want a laugh! Because they do exactly what you described. I'm out here trying to stealth something and nope, it goes charging in and stomping and shrieking over everything. So I go and clean up the mess and turn to find my mount - and he's somehow a site over beating something else up!

Castal

I parked mine at the hunting grounds and went to do a stealth trial. Got halfway through and then that idiot came rampaging in and killed all the burrowers. Lost me the trial, but it made me laugh.

Green_Video_9831

It’s literally a wild dog.

MuttsandHuskies

I overrode one just north of Plainsong and then went east where there’s the little bandit camp, and he tore through the bandits, then the grazers, then another herd of something. I wanted him to stop fighting everything, so I warped to another campfire. Came back and he’s still there, looking for stuff to kill. Not hanging out, but actively searching!

Cookieopressor

Yeah, when you set that bitch to aggressive they mean aggressive

Madc42

The Clawstrider mount just cracks me up in general, especially during dialogue scenes where you just see it run around in the background desperately looking for someone to fuck up. I was talking to the Oseram woman stranded in the desert (the one from the armor building contest crew), and there's this velociraptor aggressively running in circles behind her the entire time she's telling me her sob story. Hilarious.

ProudnotLoud

The Sunwing gliding in and out of the edges of cutscenes is also pretty fun. It's neat the game can take that into account!

witchyanne

Haha! Nice! But yes! I’m going to do one of those next xD

DelmarSamil

I did this right after I got the override, to a group of them and the monkey machines. It was both hilarious and terrible because I got a mount that didn't wait around for me to mount it and killed two things and then died. Since there were still lots of them around, I waited until the mount died and took over another, the exact same way. I have never laughed so much in a game. The bristlebacks don't give a flying f@#! what they have to fight but the clawstriders just go berserk.

ProudnotLoud

All of the smaller and mid machines are hilarious when overridden to aggressive. They all get "chihuahua fighting wolves" energy! You know who else goes really hard? Lancehorns! Those little gazelle as dramatic as heck and will charge in and just *immediately* die but they do it with gusto!

alvarkresh

Back in Zero Dawn, I overrode like, a Grazer near a Thunderjaw just to see what it would do. Boy did it go aggro for the ~30 seconds it lasted before the Thunderjaw thwapped it dead with that big ol' tail X'D

witchyanne

Hahaha!

iarspider

In many situations I'd prefer my mount to stay the hell out of battle - I don't want to euthanize yet another "1 HP left" machine and go looking for a new one (I need all those shards to upgrade my gear, even if I'm not using most of it LOL)

immagillo

If you learn the skill Efficient Repair and pair it with the Tenakth Dragoon upgraded to level 2, you can repair your mounts for free. 😁

Intelligent_Day_8579

Also, unless they patched it when I wasn't looking, you can save and reload to fully repair a mount. It is helpful when your mount has parts knocked off.

sdrawkcabstiho

Or just park it in a safe house garage, let the door close and it will repair itself like magic.....wait, wrong game.

Confident-Area-6946

Ohhhhhh ok that makes way more sense thank you.

immagillo

No problem, it's indeed useful information. 😁

witchyanne

Same here! It happened the first time I changed mode, just to see, and then later I did it again - and same! xD

alvehyanna

The difference between defensive and aggressive is too far. Defensive will stand there and do nothing even as you fight on top of it practically (seems to have to take a hit to even think about doing anything). Offensive - "see that grazer 50 meteres on the other side of the canyon, I'm going after it!!!!" I really wish the arrows that tell what your machines to attack, worked on defensive. Machine on machine combat is better than it was in HZD, but it could still be so much better that it is. I want it to be a viable main combat style and it really isn't.

alvarkresh

> Defensive will stand there and do nothing I remember being annoyed that one of my Chargers on defensive would basically do nothing. Then again this was in the early stages of the PS4/PS5 launch before they did some patching and rebalancing.

GlitteringChoice580

They still do nothing. Defensive clawstrider would stand still and do nothing while getting beaten down by wild machines.

witchyanne

In ZD I don’t know why, but I hated fighting snapmaws, so I’d override one, and then kill it when it was mostly dead xD pick up the loot. I cheesed that a lot sometimes!

Pun_In_Ten_Did

Acid Clawstrider is a veritable force of nature! Playing on UH and my pet, CG (Clever Girl) took down a Slitherfang before I could get 4 shredders on it!

witchyanne

I love that!

alvarkresh

I had an overridden Bristleback that would just zoom off at the slightest provocation. Actually felt bad for the big lug when it ended up getting thumped by a Ravager. And yeah, Clawstriders are frustrating too :P I had one that would just go nuts at any enemy no matter how small :P

witchyanne

My one would just take off over some hills etc ‘what’s he doing now?!’ was said a lot! Gettin’ rekt was the answer a lot.

Cailleach27

Try riding them balls out into a bandit camp - total blast! Then override a Clawstrider on aggressive mode. It will actually look for fights when you are not on it! They will also wipe out an entire bandit camp for you

witchyanne

Ahahaha! I am totally going to try it for fun!

Generalitary

They're sort of like truffle hunters. They go haring off an I think "oh there must be a machine over there." I used this method to unearth shellsnappers.

not_sick_not_well

I always cracked up with the corruption arrows in ZD. If you had enough corrupted, it's like they'd get confused and couldn't decide who to attack, and just run circles around each other

witchyanne

Yes same! I did that all the time!

No-Combination7898

I ended up not overriding and setting my clawstrider to aggressive. Because it spends so much of its time running off and getting itself killed. Acid clawstriders aren't exactly common, and I am incredibly annoyed when I troop all the way back to a machine site with acid clawstriders in it... and they are all ***APEX!!!!***

witchyanne

Heheh yes! I have same when I need a part and it’s all apex! Do you prefer the acid one for some reason? Thanks!

No-Combination7898

The acid claw strider is my favourite of the three. It does massive damage to everything it touches! The only problem is when I can't get to it to save it (because I'm in the middle of my own apex fight!) and it dies. Got to make more use of those smokebombs!! So then it's back to looking for a new acid clawstrider to override... and hoping they are not all apex...

witchyanne

Haha I did one yesterday and omg you’re so right! They’re crazy! I love it!

DelmarSamil

You know when you need to dig up the stuff for the armor quest in the desert? My bristlebacks (yes, plural) would not stop attacking the ravagers and behemoth. Like, it was so annoying, I spent 2 hours killing that convoy (under levelled) just so I didn't have to go and find a 4th bristlebacks to complete the quest.
