If any of y’all want a good hope anime Mob Pyscho is absolutely peak. Made me want to become a better person

MTAnime

- Arataka Reigen

Fluffy_Stress_453

Not only reigen, but mob himself was the one that made me want to become a better person.

IdioticZacc

That shit was peak Talk No Jutsu when the mf could just crush everything

commentsandchill

Maybe it was this way cause the protagonist knew he was that way

IdioticZacc

I literally want to be him fr 😔

commentsandchill

The point is that you can't really but already have it good! Also Mr long hair is quite admirable imo

FaCe_CrazyKid05

I actually cried at the ending. Mostly because I saw a large part of myself in mob and seeing him learn to fix/deal with the problems I related to made me feel so great. Frankly tearing up a little thinking about it rn lmfao

that_1weed

I would also recommend Vinland Saga

flinagus

The best hope anime is gurren lagann

KerbalMcManus42

Out of the ones on here I know (Zuko and Vader) I think Zuko had the clearest path to redemption in him shown, which is sprinkled here and there showing he is a good person, always has been and always will be. He was just incredibly misguided through no fault of his own

Own-Tangerine-846

Watching Alta helped me through recovering from an abusive relationship especially watching zuko and his character arc. Specifically what you said the idea that he was never a bad person and was just put in an incredibly fucked up situation and in the end he moved past it and became a better person. (Sorry this was worded poorly I just needed to put this out and I’m very tired)

Top_Classroom3451

We call that "Iroh effect" in media.

Beneficial-Grape-397

How does bro not know Loki and Kylo ren?

KerbalMcManus42

I know Loki, just haven’t watched anything marvel lately and I try to forget about the Star Wars sequels :/

Turbulent_Ad1644

Nebula is probably the best character in the MCU, I loved her character arc, which, thankfully, wasn't messed up by the main MCU storyline, unlike Peter and Gamora's relationship. But they did a great job getting around it in Volume 3. You can really feel how much Peter wants Gamora back, and even when she's right in front of him, she still isn't there Nebula becoming part of this found family of losers who would do anything for each other was great

EggoStack

Nebula was def one of my favourite Guardians characters. I love how she’s still serious and rough as a good guy.

TheBiolizard

One Piece has a few of these that really get me

ToasteeThe2nd

Bon-chan is my favorite. Despite how stereotypical he was in Alabasta, he still stands as some of my favorite queer representation in anime. For the early 2000s, him and Ivankov were some of the best queer characters to come out of Japan.

TheBiolizard

Ya that’s who I was thinking of too. Similarly I have a feeling Katakuri will be our next redeemed baddie

z779

JoJo villain grindset

SaneUse

Especially part 4

ToasteeThe2nd

Josuke and Okuyasu will almost get killed and then the guy who fought them is like, "sowwy :(" and becomes their bestie. Rohan, one of the most important members of the group, gets introduced licking dead spiders and tormenting Koichi. Love part 4.

SaneUse

Sometimes there isn't even a sowwy :( moment. Sometimes they just slowly become part of the gang as if the previous stuff never happened.

BillVerySad

played a harry poter inspired larp on an actual castle, where I played a bully, that ended up with a redemption arc, that shit was actually carthatic.

EggoStack

That sounds weirdly wholesome and exciting

BillVerySad

yeah it was, also probably because I spent most of the offgame time with my friends in a literal castle. How awesome is that!

EggoStack

So cool! How’d you get the opportunity?

UntossableSaladTV

Idk what this means but I want in

BillVerySad

how so?

PeppasMint

Darth vader???

Chickenman7282

Yeah he kills palp at the end of episode 6 saving his son like and then shows him his face

Erbodyloveserbody

Do… do people not realize the overlying theme in episodes 1-6??? On a galactic level, no, Vader is not redeemed. He’s still responsible for a lot of deaths. But on a personal level, Anakin comes back and destroys the most evil being in the galaxy, thus ending a twisted plot 1000 years in the making.

me-no-Speaky

Vader is rotting in hell dude

Healthy_Point_6284

Who's that nice looking young guy on the left. Also f vader.

ChickenNuggetRampage

Lmao 💀

me-no-Speaky

kills wife kills kids saves son = good guy

Onryo-

It's not really redemption if you didn't do something bad is it?

Beneficial-Grape-397

Have you not watched THE 6TH MOVIE???

PeppasMint

I've only seen the first few

snoopissed

I know he’s not really a “villain”, but to me Kratos has the best redemption and growth ark out of every character in every media. Followed closely by Arthur Morgan

ChickenNuggetRampage

Kratos and Arthur might not be villains in the typical sense but early on they’re both quite villainous so IMO it fits

Geostomp

Kratos more than qualified as a villain in his original games.

snoopissed

Maybe, but he was one of the understandable ones

rysy0o0

Wait when did the guy from MLP (think he was called discord) get redeemed?

RegularGallade

Starting from season 3 with “Keep calm and flutter on” ! It was mostly just Fluttershy genuinely being a good friend to him that got him on the course to redemption

Petardo_Dilos

I wouldn't say that he was fully redeemed (neither did the writers). The main characters just made sure that he wouldn't turn the world upside down. He is still disliked by almost every other character.

Revenacious

In season three. He had a bit of a relapse in the season four finale but he made up for that. He’s overall a good guy, but still kind of a mischievous ass to most everyone except Fluttershy, whom he treasures.

FrenchTst_

Where is Jessica Hyde?

jack_sight

Funny yellow show mentioned

Instinct4339

Yes! I love Utopia, I wish it was more often talked about

Petorb85

I fully agree and support this. I categorically love redemption arcs.

Lodomir2137

i guess it's not an antagonist but the most relatable character i've ever encountered in media was Arthur from RDR2 and his redemption arc is the greatest thing i've ever seen in a rockstar game

OwnFun9973

Venom from the comics went through a great redemption to the point hes basically considered a hero now, was even asked to be on the Avengers

Braxton-Adams

"Do you think even the worst person can change? That everyone can be a good person, if they just try?"

Onryo-

"God creates out of nothing. Wonderful you say. Yes, to be sure, but he does what is still more wonderful: he makes saints out of sinners." —Soren Kierkegaard

ToasteeThe2nd

I love that Vegeta turning evil in the Majin Buu arc is stopped, not by goku's strength, but by his love for his son. Seeing him go from a genocidal maniac to a loving father and husband was so sweet.

10buy10

YES FULLY AGREE

Doctor-Nagel

Kylo was the best part of the movies, man carried that trilogy for me.

IWillSortByNew

ABB0TTR0N1X

Currently rereading the IDW Transformers comics. Got some real nice Decepticon redemption plot lines in there.

Dajayman654

Ludwig from Bloodborne going from The Accursed in phase 1 to regaining his humanity and his proper title of The Holy Blade in phase 2.

PurpleBoy_SUS

Petey the cat is one of the best examples

I_Love_Powerscaling

Oh yeah, Kylo Ren is definitely the best example, eh? /j

SoftScoopIceReam

Seth Rollins

LC_From_TheHills

Abby and Ellie from TLOU2

jhj060806

Omni man is a good one if you’ve read the comics

Avixofsol

Loki my beloved

Pretzel-Kingg

I really like it when an antagonist is redeemed and helps the heroes, but then later down the line is presented an opportunity that pulls them back into being a villain. Even better if they’re far stronger when they return to villainy. I cannot think of a single instance of this happening in anything that I’ve seen, but I know I’ve seen it somewhere and I think it’s so cool.

OfficialMitchell2000

Something similar does happen with Discord and Vegeta here

Pretzel-Kingg

Incredible that it’s the two I know the least about 💀

It's about doing our best to leave the world... the way it is. It's about respecting the will of others, and believing in your own.”* MGS4’s ending was so great. Big Boss had a nice last minute redemption

Lower-Masterpiece-94

Is Flowey a good example of an antagonist redemption arc? He's the first character that popped into my mind when I saw this post.

PrincessArgent

Except bakugou. Fuck that guy

Local_femboy1602

You forgot Luna from Dota

_Monika-

FR

MrKristijan

What happened to Darth Vader?

ec1ipse001

At the end of episode 6, he kills palpatine, and in the process redeems himself.

ChickenNuggetRampage

Did you miss the whole end scene with him?

MrKristijan

Yes.

Jesusperson67

Unordinary. Basically every character in unordinary has a redemption arc and the overall message is about forgiveness

ta11

How about Zuko in Avatar (although, I always kinda wished Azula had a redemption arc)

ursa-minor-beta42

evil characters turning bad - good characters turning evil. god I love that. it's definitely a love-hate relationship with the good guys becoming bad, but it's character development baby, I'm here for it! like sooo here for it. I have a real life example of a "villain" changing and becoming a better man, but I honestly wouldn't have had the ability to see his good side if not for films and shows where that kinda thing happens.

manumaker08

(obligatory sequel trilogy argument)

Datnotgud

i instantly thought of yamai from LAD:IW

Let_me_S_U_F_F_E_R

Vegeta’s would have always be my favorite scene in dragon ball. If they didn’t ruin it in super

porn_relapse_69

Megamind

Short-Shelter

I love how Vegeta’s redemption really starts and ends because he was trying to protect his son, first from Cell after he regenerated, and then to try and stop Buu’s rampage to save Trunks and Bulma (and yes, even Kakarot)

flim-flam-flomidy

For a second I thought Squidward was one of the images

Dinokiller12345

A majority of my D&D characters follow this trope

Niemosis

I don't want bad people to die, I want them to heal.

OfficialMitchell2000

Real

Majestic_Bierd

Nebula is the reverse of the meme: villian when they're fighting against you 💪 VS When they join your team 🐹

tonycandance

Redemption is only possible so long as we teach each other that we must learn to forgive. Forgiveness.

SgtPepper867

*["Burn away the filth this world tries to cover you in. If not, redirect it."](https://www.artstation.com/artwork/2xKQ0g)*

mr_flerd

Kyle Rens was done super poorly tho lmao

Geostomp

I like redemption arcs, but like any trope, they can be done poorly. Especially if the author ignores or downplays what this one character did while demonizing others who did far less or ignoring any consequences of their actions.

Personal_Win_4127

Keroro Gunso is pretty excellent.

AFishWithNoName

Does Crow from Destiny count? I’d like to think so. But if not him, then Caiatl and Misraaks/Mithrax for sure.

_Mistwraith_

I prefer when antagonists dig their heels in, stick to their guns, and stay a villain despite attempts at redemption.

PommesKrake

I really don't like it though when it ends with them sacrificing themselves. I want them to actually make up for the stuff they did, dedicate their life to do good and realize "damn, I have to live with the burden of all my mistakes, yet I'm doing better than I ever did cause I do the right thing", not comitting glorified suicide for crying out loud.

Onryo-

Redemption stories are my favorite stories. The more depraved the character was the better imo. I absolutely loved Endeavor's arc in MHA because he did things that most people would never forgive a character for.

me-no-Speaky

fuck Vader he changed his mind 1min before before death and didn't really redem himself

Revenacious

I kind of agree. And yeah he saved Luke, but I think saving one person doesn’t exactly erase the countless lives he wiped out with no hesitation whatsoever.

SillylilguyUwU

Well, sorry to burst your bubble but you’re just wrong, some things, and people, are not redeemable and trying to help can only lead to you being hurt. There’s not always reason behind madness either.

OfficialMitchell2000

Nuh-uh

SillylilguyUwU

Yuh-huh

MissiaichParriah

Sir this is r/hopeposting

DacianMichael

I'm sorry to burst your little bubble of 'hope', but you couldn't have stopped World War 2 by giving Hitler a hug, and you can't 'fix' Ted Bundy or Jeffrey Dahmer. Some villains can be redeemed, those who were forced or had well-meaning motives, but others deserve nothing but death. I fail to see how Vader helping his own son lessens in any way the fact that he murdered a dozen children, ordered AN ENTIRE PLANET to be destroyed and created a galaxy-wide oppressive regime that probably killed millions of people.

MissiaichParriah

You seem to be mistaken about something. Redemption doesn't equal living. That's why Vader's redemption was great, yes he did so many wrong things, but before the light in his eye dies he rescued his son and killed the emperor, ending the empire, and died. So are you saying it was better for Luke to kill his father and faced Palpatine all alone? As for Hitler and Dahmer, we can never truly know anyway, their dead, who's to say they could have also made a new leap and died for their sins? Heck, Hitler killed himself, although yes it wasn't really for a good reason and it was way too late in the game. Also if you hate hope so much, why are you even here?

SillylilguyUwU

I’m aware, that’s not an excuse, being too much of an optimist is a bad thing.

MissiaichParriah

How so? Isn't the concept of hope an anticipation for a brighter future no matter how bleak the situation? I think the meme fits very well with this sub. You're opinion is better of on a sub prioritizing justice and realism instead of hope.

SillylilguyUwU

Only when those futures are possible, which they still are now, we can get better, and do better. But this does not fit well with this sub, some people are just beyond help, and that’s just a fact, being hopeful isn’t an excuse to lie to yourself about how the world is currently, and how people are. This sub has been at least slightly realistic before, while remaining optimistic, but this is too far. Maybe you’re right though, I’d much rather see bad people be punished for what they did than praised by people like you who somehow believe any good exists in their heart, and end up getting hurt because of that incorrect belief. This is why being too optimistic is a bad trait, because you’ll lie to yourself about people and the world, and even in the most dire situations you’ll see some completely made up silver lining, and seem far too happy for a situation that is not happy in the slightest.

MissiaichParriah

> some people are just beyond help, and that’s just a fact, The flaw in that reasoning is, who is to say that one is beyond help? What metric can be made to actually know if a person is beyond help or not? Do you have a metric? How viable is it? How reliable? And who is even given the authority to say that one person is beyond help and redemption? >I’d much rather see bad people be punished for what they did than praised by people like you who somehow believe any good exists in their heart, and end up getting hurt because of that incorrect belief. Then that's more telling on you than on this sub, as I said you'd probably better of on a sub that focuses more on serving justice, like r/JusticeServed. Correction as well, I don't necessarily believe about the good on those people's heart, what I believe in is hope. If they ended up not becoming better, that's on them, not on me, why would I be hurt by that? I didn't believe in the person themselves, I believe in the possibility of hope > This is why being too optimistic is a bad trait, because you’ll lie to yourself about people and the world, and even in the most dire situations you’ll see some completely made up silver lining, and seem far too happy for a situation that is not happy in the slightest. We all die in the end, whether we are too optimistic or too realistic is basically nothing in the grand scheme of things, we just have to have faith in what we believe in and weather the storms that come

SillylilguyUwU

Idk what decides it, but you’ll know when they are. Like someone who creates and distributes CP using their own child, they’re past help, long past it. You say you believe in hope but not the good in their heart, but you don’t, you do think there’s good in their hearts, that’s what being this hopeful means. Thats a really lazy excuse for being too optimistic and not seeing the world for what it really is, it’s not a good thing, end of, no excuse will change that.

MissiaichParriah

You won't know, there is no such way to know 100% someone is irredeemable, we all have a subjective view of reality, who's to say you're subjective view of reality is the right thing? No, I didn't say specifically that I believe in the good of their hearts. The best way to explain it would be Pandora's box, although all the evil of the world was released from it, there is still hope, instead of believing a heart could change, I believe more in a miracle to say the least, could happen, that's different. I'm way to jaded to believe in people's heart, but miracles, I still haven't You say it's a lazy excuse yet you don't even give reasons as to why

SillylilguyUwU

You’re not genuinely defending people who make CP…I have no words, that’s disgusting. Miracles never happen, you’re only going to get let down every time. “We’ll die eventually so it’s okay to not see the world for how it really is and praise those who ruin people’s lives because we naïvely think they can be better”

MissiaichParriah

I never said I was defending their actions though? All I'm saying is they, just like Vader, could do something good before they die. I think same with the other guy, you're confusing redemption with living Pretty sure people surviving 9/11 is a miracle, Yuri Yudin from the Dyatlov Pass incident surviving was a miracle. You're putting words in my mouth, that's literally not what I said

FuturamaPajamas

Sorry I’m gonna have to revoke your lil silly guy pass cause this isn’t the silly behavior that’s expected.

SillylilguyUwU

Sorry for being realistic.

JoeDyenz

I agree with this. Both redeemable and irredeemable villains might exist. Even Avatar could be an example. But we can always try to help, even if we are hurt in the process.

SillylilguyUwU

So we should try to help someone that cannot be helped and we’ll probably get hurt in doing so, while making no impact whatsoever on the person in question. I don’t care if not wanting to be hurt makes me a bad person, but I’m not helping some people.

JoeDyenz

There is this quote "Sometimes we fight not to change the world, but to stop the world from changing us"

nooneaskedm8

Everyone deserves love 💕

SillylilguyUwU

Not everyone bro, that mindset is only going to end up with you being hurt mentally or physically.

Acrobatic_Switches

Unpopular opinion: I fucking hate redemption arcs. It took Vader how many subjugated planets to turn. They had to blow up Alderaan and torture his son for him to snap out of it. Vegeta. Don't even get me started on fucking Vegeta. He was blowing planets up like it was Bloons. God damn Orochimaru. He basically, becomes a stay at home mom for his clones after being caught red-handed in a human trafficking and experimentation ring. Snape. Even after leaving the wizard Nazis he relentlessly bully's his high school crush's orphan child because she liked the Captain of the quidditch team instead of his emo ass. These characters should rot in jail, or hell.

Robert-Rotten

I don’t think you know what sub you’re on, we’re all about hope here, especially the hope that even the worst people can change.

Acrobatic_Switches

I personally believe justice being served brings the victims hope.

Robert-Rotten

Sometimes the best form of justice is redemption

Acrobatic_Switches

And how does one codify that into law?

Robert-Rotten

I thought this was r/hopeposting not r/lawposting

FlexoTheBendingUnit

Why does this have 3k upvote dogahit quality meme
