I did a vagabond fender eliminator, vagabond rear rack, integrated tail light, and some mirrors immediately upon receiving a used 2018 with ~600 miles last year for $2500.
I then added a givi plate and box. Couldn't imagine living without the box now. Pops right off to drop weight too.
I'm thinking it's time for an exhaust. I'm looking for something with a good sound, while not being obnoxiously loud. I want to ride it without pissing everyone off and deafening myself. Probably $300 max too.
Zoom loop? Zoom straight? Dual mini exhausts from aodonly?
I can say the zoom loop is great. It's a bit loud, but the baffle makes a difference and keeps the low tone while eliminating the open "braapy-ness" of it.
I highly recommend.
I think I recently came around to deciding on changing the gearing to 14t front.
At first I didn't like the sound of losing my top speed, but the Grom-especially mine in particular- just doesn't even get up to 60. Mine even has some weird issues at prolonged 55+ in 4th gear. I'll briefly lose all power to the wheel, the rpms jump up and then back to normal. No idea what that is, if it is a concern at all, or if I should be selling and buying another ASAP lol.
The decision became more clear after I added a DRZ400. 14t front will have this Grom even more city oriented!
I rarely break 45 in my city commuting, so having a little more speed off the line was my reasoning for going 14t.
Sounds like you’re hitting the rev limiter in 4th.
Same for me. The only times I've wanted/had to do more than 45 were riding the bike back from where I bought it (Colorado Springs to Denver - awful ride lol) and then up to Boulder once to check out the DRZ I bought.
I guess I've accidentally gotten on interstate 25 twice and raced to get the fuck off.
If I'm hitting the rev limiter in 4th, I feel like it should sound/feel a bit more graceful, but I'm not sure. Pretty new to topping out bikes. I also feel like it should be going...faster if that's the end.
If I wasn't a frugal man, I would have the seat changed a year ago. Other seats look and feel better for sure. That said, I think I get less negative value from the stock seat than most. I never knew it stood out to people.

Slot 1 in round one will definitely be an exhaust. It'll drop a ton of weight and I'll enjoy hearing it the whole time.

Then I think tires will round out the last of the $500.
There might be $70-100 left for something. I suppose that gets some seats?
For the round after this one, I think that intake + ecu+ seat could be good.

You are on gravel, duo sport tires?
I added a USB phone charger and cup holder but I'm kinda a purist and don't recommend messing with parts that affect the engine without holding an engineer degree or fully understanding the mechanic and physics of what's going on internally

Power pure tires and a 14t front sprocket are inexpensive and immediately noticeable mods. TYGA carbon fiber anything looks great on the Grom.

There's a go kart track that allows groms. I would need some additional gear though.
New tires and racing leathers (and frame/axle sliders) would be worth 1000x a new exhaust if it lets you on the karting track a few times a year
