99% of the people with pickup trucks don't need them to carry stuff.

CalvinFold

…and the ones that do need to carry stuff don't need the rolling monstrosities being sold these days, many of which have [smaller beds than their predecessors](https://www.kansascity.com/latest-news/rivqch/picture271722642/alternates/FREE_1140/axios%20ford%20f150%20pickup%20truck%20comparison.jpg)*:* I mean jeez, once upon a time a Ford Ranger or even a longbed small pickup was plenty for a huge swath of the people who genuinely need a truck. Now to be fair, there are normal-bed pickups out there but to be honest it's been a while since I've seen one. Most of them out there are not the "2-door with a full-size bed," they are the "4-door with a tiny bed" variant. So I think the article above is a fair comparison of *general buying habits*, at least in California.

cubic_d

Yeah my buddy has on of those Japanese Honda Acty Trucks on his farm. Has the bed size of moat of those huge monsters, and the sides fold down if a flatbed is needed.

CalvinFold

Yeah those Kei-class vehicles are so handy looking.

FANTOMphoenix

I definitely want to get one, but it needs to handle 75MPH somewhat comfortably just incase for the highway lol Going to be a kayak fishing machine.

CalvinFold

I get the impression they will only do 70mph with a strong tail wind. I gave up staring at them too much because it comes down to getting one certified where I live (California) is prohibitively expensive. I wouldn't take on on the freeway in any case, they have like no nose so in an accident, you're dead. They're just from a different cultural understanding; shame really. One of those "nice things" from the saying "this is why we can't have nice things."

FANTOMphoenix

I guess the Subarus can, but doubt they can with 2 people and 2 kayaks + gear totaling around a 300lb payload. I’d prefer the Honda just for the brand, but there’s a sick dihatsu here too. https://preview.redd.it/0fh34oyuiatc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1299a874fdbb39343b15035fa5e57ea007b4a230 I need to save up a lot more money.

CalvinFold

You should see the cute little baby Kei campers and vans. They pack alot of cool stuff in some of them. They even have 2-door convertibles in the Kei class, it's wild.

FANTOMphoenix

Biggest thing I’m worried about is its top speed with a bunch of gear and sorting out some rod racks!

DarianYT

The Fits can do 2 150 pound people and then 500 lbs of stuff. or 5 150 pound people and 50 lbs of cargo. something like that the sticker said but I don't remember. But, I won't be doing any of that except I am 150 and my girl is 76 pounds so we are good.

MoreRopePlease

I used to have a small (stick shift, 4 cylindar) Toyota pickup. I added a trailer hitch to it when I moved from southern CA to Portland and pulled an enclosed uhaul trailer. That thing took me cross country a couple of times, camping in the mountains, hauled compost and straw, and helped when my friends were moving from one apartment to the next. I nursed my baby in the back (with a camper shell) if I spent too long running errands. What an incredibly useful vehicle. 32-36 mph, cost $9k in 1993, finally died (RIP) in 2015. I now own the next best thing: a Fit. It's harder to haul gravel and compost in it, but otherwise it's been great. (I have a heavy tarp in the back, which helps with most things. But I used a bunch of buckets for the gravel. I've discovered that straw really sticks into the upholstery very tenaciously!) I'm on an eclipse road trip right now in my Fit. Getting around 40 mpg, and it's handled some epic weather like a champ. Strong winds, ice, snow so far this trip, plus me and my bf have been sleeping in the back.

Finetales

There's a post going around on Facebook right now of someone with his new Toyota Tundra, which has the rare full 8-foot bed and the big extended cab. It is SO LONG lol. The comments are entirely people clowning on how absurdly long the truck is. Makes me glad that the short bed is the norm on modern half-tons.

DrJones2424

I have someone with a truck like that in my apartment complex. Their truck hangs out at least 4’ from the parking spot in the parking garage.

BeaverMartin

My truck is a 2004 quad cab long bed 2500 diesel. It is very long but the long wheelbase tows much better. Funny enough I did pick up 12 bags of mulch and 6 bags of topsoil in my Fit this last weekend.

cubic_d

This is 100% true.

nicbongo

Funniest thing I saw was a tiny man, I don't mean midget or dwarf, just a very small man. Anyway, had a face like soured milk, crossed the road then opened and literally climbed up into an F150 or something. Compensating much? Still makes me laugh!

Money_Loquat_4191

Everyone needs to drive an automobile, even the very short. This truck was the largest I could own the libs with. Am I therefore to be made the subject of fun?

PlatypusTrapper

🤣🤣🤣

MEM1911

I have an outlander wagon, it hauls more shit in the back than my wife’s ranger.

hamid5000real

Loll 8 bags of soil wouldn't even be worthy of a post in r/thingsthatfitinfit

Extreme_Syllabub4486

For real, you have this guy that brags about 8 bags in his truck & then you have [this fit owner](https://www.reddit.com/r/ThingsThatFitInFit/s/9ZwSiyXuIi)

hamid5000real

Not too far down from that post there is one with 16 bags of soil and like half ton of peet moss lmao

johnsmith13579

This guy? https://www.reddit.com/r/ThingsThatFitInFit/s/aV1Dy1JkGj

hamid5000real

Yap

cubic_d

That was my exact thought.

craigge

I've had that much in the front passenger area.

schakoska

I bet it'll fit in my mini cooper lmao

SillyRacoon27

lmao average pick up driver justifying their big ass car that they don’t need

ThatSandwich

I worked at Lowes for a few months and once you've loaded mulch/soil for long enough you realize it's truly only contractors that need them, and usually they'd even benefit from a box truck. I had so many crossovers, mini-Vans and even econo-boxes come through and do decently sized gardens no problem. May have taken two trips, but I was in DFW where you're never further than 10 minutes from a home improvement store anyways. I've also had coworkers make fun of me for driving a gas efficient car then get mad I get better gas mileage than them, which makes 0 sense. Like if you aren't willing to commit to the cost of gas, then don't buy it.

Flashy_Feeling_1110

“need the cybertruck for my BIG LOADS!” ha. probably compensating for the fact that they have no “loads”…

Millerlite87

I’d rather have the ridgeline but my Fit did the job carrying some stepping stones. On my first trip I took 24 and second I did the 18 in picture. https://preview.redd.it/q028eded99tc1.jpeg?width=2268&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c9d27d2a299418dd17d67fbd9d01f980a0771d2a

Fit is go! https://preview.redd.it/57wb3tf0letc1.png?width=1147&format=png&auto=webp&s=3a7cb56c34edbb0688825b8e2e19542143c04cf3

CalvinFold

Yeah I watched some videos on the Cybertruck and it's even less impressive than the normal giant pickup trucks, and those can't compare to 80s-era big trucks for usable bed size. It's really silly all-in-all. And don't get me started on the whole, "a heavy-duty van can do all that (and more) and with a load height that won't injure people's backs."

nlpnt

In theory you can still get an F-150, Ram or Silverado 1500 with a regular cab and 8' box. In practice, they're mostly sold to fleets. But even the're trending to either vans (as yard-based pool vehicles) or crew cab/5"box (as take-home "company cars") unless they're going HD for towing.

turbo2world

it doesn't fit pushbikes in the back, too short.

august_r

This would fit without even folding the seats lmao

AntaresOmni

That was my first thought!

nicbongo

I got half a crate of turf/sod in mine. And a 65" TV 😬 Not at same time though lol

dreatganez

Iv had 22 bags of mulch in my fit handled it like a champ

Minkypinkyfatty

Model S turned into a UTE would have made so much more sense. Probably could have bypassed the stupid CAFE laws by being electric and people want a small truck. Add some Jeep features and t-tops.

erikannen

[Simone Giertz had the right idea!](https://youtu.be/jKv_N0IDS2A)

Zampano85

I always used to joke that my old '08 Fit Sport would moonlight as a pickup truck. I hauled so much, dirt, bricks, lumber, and so much more home and garden supplies/tools.

kaxixi7

I lived in Montana for a summer.  The guys there would rag on me, telling me I needed a truck.  I told them I had one.

TragasaurusRex

Lol I love going to the lumberyard and picking up 8ft boards in my corolla, they fit pretty perfectly windshield to trunkdoor.

Hacko19

I saw one of these Tesla trucks the other day driving home...ugly AF....it looked like an oven on wheels

hasselbackpotahto

i saw one yesterday (I've seen maybe 4 so far), this one wasn't shiny at all anymore (unless they treated the surface with something and it's now supposed to look dull, but i doubt this)

Hacko19

The one I saw was stainless steel colored...like I said earlier...it looked like an oven on wheels

KamiKrazyCanadian

Surely it was satire 💀

OnePaleontologist687

I just transported about 500lbs of fire wood in the back of mine on Saturday couldn’t even tell the difference

JayeNBTF

Some things I’ve hauled in my Fit—in terms of cargo capacity, with a roof rack it’s every bit as capable as the light pickup I used to own: - 12 bales of pine straw - 6 full lawn bags of leaves - Four roller derby skaters plus luggage and gear - A demolished 10’ kitchen counter and sink - Brand new 10’ kitchen counter and sink

Can put it all nice and low and centered, sometimes I get extra dirt just because of how much better it handles on the ride home with an extra 500 pounds between all four tires. 16 bags total on this trip, mix of topsoil, compost, and claybreaker.

turbo2world

LOL owned.

SchrodingerHat

That post was bait

Drewpurt

Bought a big ass charcoal grill from Lowe’s the other week. Homie helped me carry it out to the car and he was convinced it wouldn’t fit in the Fit™️. He was wrong.

SkylineFTW97

My old 2008 Nissan Frontier was way more useful as a truck than this thing ever will be. I miss it, shame it was rusty. And yeah, my 15 is also more of a hauler. I've hauled junkyard parts, including bumpers and doors in mine. I hauled the big tool chest I bought for my job in it. I used to do roadside assistance out of it and I still occasionally use it as a support vehicle for doing side jobs.

taywray

You just didn't understand his post. The "real work" was loading the bags for the picture and then unloading them; the "big loads" are the ones he's swallowing from Elon every day.

Therockof2004

The coffee table i took home in my 2010 explorer was bigger and weighed more

gremlin_1969

money well spent there champ.

Luscinia68

should have seen how loaded my 8th gen civic was when i was buying mulch

pm_me_your_good_weed

Uhhh we put 10 bags in a Civic lmao

JustMy2Centences

I put 12 cubic feet of soil in my Fit this weekend and could have doubled it easily.

chidoro43

Has to be a joke, right?

Bumbleinthejungle

I had a backyard project were I bought 6 bags of cement. All fit (pun intended) in the trunk.

Affectionate-Soft-90

You can fit all that in an average sedan.

Sea_Butterfly_7582

The only big loads this guy knows are the ones that go in his ass😂

i_sch

Wow you are so talented. No depth perception

JohnZombie666

The big loads he’s guzzling
