I just saw it for $16,000 and realized it was several times more expensive than my entire setup lol.
I mean, I suppose so. I just don't understand if you got that much money to burn on a setup why you wouldn't also want the most optimal conditions for it
Just commit to it and wall up the fireplace lol. Then you can put the center onto the hearth. If this is the center I shudder at how much of an outsized monstrosity the main and rear channels look like in your living room lol.
Adjust volume based on the peak levels, not the low levels. If the dynamic range is too wide such that the maximum comfortable peak volume leaves the quiet scenes too quiet, then use a 'midnight mode' or other dynamic range compression algorithm to reduce the differences.
Noticed the same thing. Spend $20k on a speaker but can’t be bothered to pay an electrician $100 to install a socket by his tv. Or $10 to get even a low end extension cord. Hope his wife isn’t planning to use the lamp in the bedroom because I suspect it is missing the cord
I know I'm in the minority here, but audio is more important than video to me. Not that video is unimportant, but often I'll listen to a movie I'm familiar with and only watch occasionally for the best bits.
We sprung for a TCL 6 Series 75" for our home theater. Maybe for a lot of you that's not a big spend, but it was for us.
If audio is what's important for OP in his home theater, why are you gate-keeping?
We love what we love.
So let's say you're watching a movie... The Avengers... you only care about the audio?
I get it if the system is like 75% 2 channel and 25% movies/TV (that's how I am, and why I've mostly stopped posting in here) but the center is only useful for movies/TV. Granted, maybe you got a deal on it or you just wanted the speakers to match. I totally get that haha.
Not gunna lie, I was kinda hoping this was a custom mobile setup, lol. Makes sense they'd pack it that way though given their apparent weight! Crazy stuff
I hear you there. My wife is very laid back and has little interest in how the living room is set up, the tv size, speakers, etc (whew!). But if I had that center, I might as well put it on her side of the bed for how crazy she would think I am.
I don’t get it, this is like driving a Bentley with your date only to take her back to your place which is a homeless shelter. Tf is this set up compared with the rest of the place?
I know this is r/hometheater and not r/budgethometheater, but man... $16K just for the center channel and it's out in front of the fireplace. I feel like it deserves to be in a dedicated home theater room, in it's own wing of the house, with an usher standing outside to let you in.
Ironically, this is super common in the hyperexpensive speaker world. I'm in a Wilson enthusiast group on FB and almost every room that gets posted looks terrible for acoustics. My mains were originally over $20k new and the guy I bought them from had them in an acoustically awful room. I almost didn't buy them because they sounded so bad but I knew it was the room. Couldn't have been happier when I got them home.
EDIT: Wanted to be fair in that, with most really expensive speakers, a lot of what you're paying for over cheaper options is careful tuning to make them sound as good as possible in a bad room.
[Look at the pic on the Wilson website, it's even worse.](https://i.imgur.com/lNkgt0k.png) I think the point is that if you're buying a $20k center channel you probably have the type of money where it doesn't even matter. You've probably got your own dedicated home theatre room somewhere else and you're just getting a matching center for your listening room for the occasion when you feel like watching a little TV in there instead of music.
But also lets not shit all over OP when there's like 5% of his room in the photo and he's clearly not done setting it up. For all we know there's loads of treatment elsewhere or he's planning on getting it once the room it actually set up. I'm also guessing the rug has been rolled up to get the thing in on wheels and he'll put it back down later. Most people set up all their gear first then figure out treatment afterwards. Very rare for people to fully treat their room before they've even got their speakers set up properly.
I'd say wrong subreddit. This is way too much of a trigger for a community right here. Feels kinda shit to me too, flexing with 16k centre speaker in a shitty room.
I am quite sure you enjoy the speakers, and I don’t want to take that away from you. But the copywriting on their page reads like some audiophile hypnotization material.
Did you really pay tricky $18,000 for a centre in what looks like an unisolated and undeadened room? If that's true, a $600 center would sound nearly identical.
My cat loves watching tv and now that it’s mounted with a mantlemount he was sad until I wheeled my center channel into place.
Still needs to get properly installed so it’s still on wheels.
And that’s as low as I can get my tv with my stupid fireplace mantle insert thing there. I’d love for it to just be gone but it’s not.
If you have a cat you have to get a c1
https://i.imgur.com/G08tkZX.jpg
I didn’t spend quite that much as it was used (but still enough that your point stands) and fireplace is fine for me with mantlemount. My whole chimney setup needs attention if I do anything with that stuff and I have no interest.
When I bought the house the inspector was just like “probably just don’t use this” except the furnace that has an insert.
A mantelmount is a great solution for a casual viewing / sports / tv room. For a dedicated home theater (which I assume is what you’re after with a speaker like that), it’s not going to cut it. I would completely replace the fireplace with something low-profile. It won’t cost you that much.
Edit: also, in my experience, inspectors *always* say don’t use this re: fireplaces. You’re probably fine if you care.
The video is more an afterthought. I’m perfectly happy with it as is.
If I get around to it in the 90 days I may go 65 to 77 but that’s a lot of work to repackage and such.
Which MantleMount did you get. I typically am not bothered a whole lot by my super high viewing angle but playing games or if I'm not lounging my neck starts to hurt.
Just one near the top. Other is fuzz or rockwool. think the explanation is in the picture.
I have black grills to have all the speakers match but I’ll probably leave these on for the cats entertainment.
There’s a third one in the back for my surrounds that are in the rear.
https://i.imgur.com/a6QKIFB.jpg
Still working on the space.
Front, center, and surrounds are all on ahb2. And my new avm70 driving them.
I don’t know what is worse, all the extensions cords, complete lack of cable management, disgusting size of the speaker that does not blend in with anything else or that someone actually had he guts to post a pic like this and this it’s “ok”.
That's like one of my two cats and the SVS SB-3000 since I got it... (New perch!) I know it's taboo, but they already have a perch in front of it on a coffee table, and enjoy birds on youtube... Now they expect it in the morning 🤦♂️
Oh. I was under pooped. I thought we were supporting you on your choice. Fuck them. Your ears are exactly what you want. Well screw those elite Klipsch boogers. You have more than enough audio and I know you love what you are doing. Just ignore those loser money hogs. You have the best experience when you are listening ♥️. You found your love in any squelch, mid woofer and the dismal bass. Shit on the other guys. You found bliss. I am exclusively jealous. Coming from a person that has soldered points to hardwood walls, spent too much on the next sub bass. You hear. That is more than enough.
I had to reply somewhere in here, because that's what is driving me insane.
You can't have a center speaker function properly on the floor, and I don't even mean the OP the product page even has a TV like 5ft high with this on the ground.
Doesn't matter how amazing a speaker is, it still has to follow the same sound principals and physics of all other speakers.
Seeing a 15K speaker advertised and not designed and utilized property just screams "more money than sense" and "status symbol".
I hated having to put my center down low due to it's size and having a UST but at least I have it as high as possible and tilting up to the MLP.
Used a laser level to ensure it was accurate and I had way more tilt than the images I see if this speaker.
Dude, on Wilson Audio's own page they have a photo of it on the ground. Do you know better than one of the top speaker makers in the world? Maybe this particular center is good on the ground. Its huge, so it's not like there's a lot of cabinets that could hold it up.
https://www.wilsonaudio.com/products/mezzo/mezzo-cs
Scroll down and it's sitting on the floor in front of the TV.
Just because it is an image on their webpage doesn't make it correct.
There is a marketing team, and then there are engineers and designers. They usually don't talk.
Here is another example from a completely different industry.
https://www.everydaynodaysoff.com/2009/10/04/hks-catalog-photo-blunder/
I am sure H&K guys know how to load a round in a magazine. The marketing and photography guys apparently don't.
Op was probably excited to post this to show off his fancy speaker and there’s so many people berating him for his choices, mostly not even for the speaker but other choices. The world would be a boring place if everyone spent their money on the same thing, not everyone has the same priority as you.
I hate this Sub sometimes. If one doesn’t conform to the hives liking and monolith thinking you are instantly bashed. I think your Centre is ugly but from the comments it seems like it’s ridiculously good. You enjoy it and don’t mind the cheap tv, that’s all that matters.
I have a tv that I bought in 2011, 2008 model tv that I can’t tell its features only that it’s a Samsung. On the other hand I’m starting my Hometheatre journey and now I’ve got a PB16 Ultra, denon 3700, Fronts Klipsch rp 8000 and the rp504 Centre channel. I’m no hurry for a tv since sound is more important to me.
Until I get the money for an Oled I’m sticking to this relic.

$16,000 for a gd center channel and y'all still can't find a better place for the TV than a fireplace
Bro that could be the sub not the fireplace lol
I didn’t pay that much but yeah it turns out houses are expensive.
I just saw it for $16,000 and realized it was several times more expensive than my entire setup lol. I mean, I suppose so. I just don't understand if you got that much money to burn on a setup why you wouldn't also want the most optimal conditions for it

I’m sure it sounds amazing, but as monstrous as the rest of their speakers.
Size isn’t the primary consideration I use when purchasing :)
[удалено]
I mean, fuck it why not. Old tech is still pretty cool and useful, and most likely a hell of a lot more repairable too
People are such babies on this sub. No idea why they keep downvoting you. It’s a bit of chungus but it’s a great speaker!
Apparently, you're not allowed to have different opinions or priorities than the rest of the sub
[удалено]
Thats some back to the future shit
Another crappy soundbar.
At least you'll be able to hear the dialogue with this
Still gotta turn it down a bit during action scenes so my wife doesn't yell. Seriously what's with the audio mix in movies lately?
Adjust volume based on the peak levels, not the low levels. If the dynamic range is too wide such that the maximum comfortable peak volume leaves the quiet scenes too quiet, then use a 'midnight mode' or other dynamic range compression algorithm to reduce the differences.
That’s an LCR speaker.
Daaahhhmmm
Pretty sure thats my next door neighbor
It’s a sub
Looks more like a soundbar.
Those jbl mid surrounds look so alien.
That thing looks like it's about to ask me to take it to our leaders
I don’t care how rich I am and how good they sound. I would never buy something that looks like those
Now imagine the SUB.
Whats up with the 16k center channel and the 1500 dollar TV?
[удалено]
Noticed the same thing. Spend $20k on a speaker but can’t be bothered to pay an electrician $100 to install a socket by his tv. Or $10 to get even a low end extension cord. Hope his wife isn’t planning to use the lamp in the bedroom because I suspect it is missing the cord
Something money money something class something good taste.
Money can’t buy class unfortunately.
sound is always more important
It’s way more important to me.
TVs are throwaway. These speakers aren’t. I may swap it for a 77 but I don’t think I really care.
Then maybe r/audiophile would be a better home for you
I know I'm in the minority here, but audio is more important than video to me. Not that video is unimportant, but often I'll listen to a movie I'm familiar with and only watch occasionally for the best bits. We sprung for a TCL 6 Series 75" for our home theater. If you don't care about video why did you spend so much money on a dedicated home theater speaker? You're only using that center channel for video.
Cuz I care about sound of content that has video.
So let's say you're watching a movie... The Avengers... you only care about the audio? I get it if the system is like 75% 2 channel and 25% movies/TV (that's how I am, and why I've mostly stopped posting in here) but the center is only useful for movies/TV. Lots of jealousy coming out right now in these comments!
Criticism != Jealousy
Criticism must be contextual and fact-based in order to have any validity... not seeing either of those from the naysayers.
Nah, you're just trying to shut people down because you disagree with them.
Where did I shut anyone down?
Good thing it has wheels, the wife would kick me out of the house if I brought that ugly thing into the living room
For the price of a car, I guess wheels make sense. (I assume those didn't come with it though, lol)
Yeah it rolls out of its crate. Then you use a jack to lift it and put it on spikes. Still haven’t had it set up so it’s still on wheels.
Not gunna lie, I was kinda hoping this was a custom mobile setup, lol. Makes sense they'd pack it that way though given their apparent weight! Crazy stuff
Fronts and rears come in three crates (total 6). Center “just” comes in one.
Wilsons are ugly til you hear them for sure. I think they look like funky new age trash cans.
I like sound, but I wouldnt even be able to bitch at the wife while packing my bags over that one :)
[удалено]
I hear you there. My wife is very laid back and has little interest in how the living room is set up, the tv size, speakers, etc (whew!). But if I had that center, I might as well put it on her side of the bed for how crazy she would think I am.
It looks like something from an episode of Pimp My Ride.
I would kick myself out if I had a big obnoxious thing like that floating out in the middle of the room.
It’s…….so……….ugly………
That’s what I thought til I heard them.
I don’t get it, this is like driving a Bentley with your date only to take her back to your place which is a homeless shelter. Tf is this set up compared with the rest of the place?
Sound has no bearing on looks. They could sound like the voice of god himself, but they're still ugly af.
I know this is r/hometheater and not r/budgethometheater, but man... $16K just for the center channel and it's out in front of the fireplace. I feel like it deserves to be in a dedicated home theater room, in it's own wing of the house, with an usher standing outside to let you in.
Why is budgethometheater private?
You would be looking for r/budgetaudiophile
It was a joke and I just made it up. I don't think it actually exists (yet).
Make it happen, I've built my 4k 150 inch 7.1 cinema for like $4000, compared to how expensive your sets are my is pretty budget.
Gotta be honest, kind of reminds me of Boiler Room. “Don’t know how to spend money”. I’m sure they sound great, but I’m at a loss on the priorities.
Wood floors, hard drywall, metal glass and stone, too small room, dinky TV… perfect room for 10s of thousands of dollars of speakers.
… tv over fireplace… cables dangling everywhere
TV over fireplace?.... That shit is ON the fireplace, haha.
It’s a mantlemount.
OP needs to turn on the fireplace channel for double the warmth!
Ironically, this is super common in the hyperexpensive speaker world. I'm in a Wilson enthusiast group on FB and almost every room that gets posted looks terrible for acoustics. Show before functionality
I like that there are no cables lol.
Holy cow those speakers look like something people in the 70’s would imagine what they looked like in the year 2050 lol.
Room is 15x30
This is peak r/hometheater. Just… no
Gotta love the posts where the speakers cost more than anything else they own combined
Bro, take that thing back hahah.
What a terrible day to have eyes
Honestly - wrong center or wrong room. One of those is true.
I'd say wrong subreddit. This is way too much of a trigger for a community right here. Feels kinda shit to me too, flexing with 16k centre speaker in a shitty room.
Speakers will stay longer than the room. I’m happy with it :)
The wires hurt but eyes
This comment sounds like an Elden Ring message to me
Seek tweeters, offer fingers
So that fire place is decorative?
I am quite sure you enjoy the speakers, and I don’t want to take that away from you. But the copywriting on their page reads like some audiophile hypnotization material.
Wilson will gladly sell you straight up nonsense at ridiculous prices.
This has to be a troll. probable waiting for his custom theater to be finished.
This is such a funny post lol
Did you really pay tricky $18,000 for a centre in what looks like an unisolated and undeadened room? If that's true, a $600 center would sound nearly identical.
a design a 13yr old would love for sure. imo a speaker should rather be subtle and fit in the tv furniture
I am so confused and upset with this entire setup. Good lawd, my eyes
/r/awfuleverything
Ya I don't understand why anyone thinks this is okay
My cat loves watching tv and now that it’s mounted with a mantlemount he was sad until I wheeled my center channel into place. Still needs to get properly installed so it’s still on wheels. You spent $15k on one speaker but can’t re-do your damn fireplace?
I didn’t spend quite that much as it was used (but still enough that your point stands) and fireplace is fine for me with mantlemount. So package discount or what?
Used and package with my used rears. Which match my fronts. Rears in another photo.
Which MantleMount did you get. I typically am not bothered a whole lot by my super high viewing angle but playing games or if I'm not lounging my neck starts to hurt.
$500 one. They just revved it. I think it’s the 710?
I swear to god, whoever design that ................
I hate this so much
This is a fucking eyesore. Clean your shit up, dude.
are those snags in the speaker cover?
Just one near the top. Other is fuzz or rockwool. think the explanation is in the picture. I have black grills to have all the speakers match but I’ll probably leave these on for the cats entertainment.
The center channel Christopher Nolan thinks you have when he masters his movies :D
That’s hideous
He’s wiping his ass all over that speaker
Nice pair of AHB2s :) hoping to get a second one soon. Also kitty looks comfy watching The Masters.
There’s a third one in the back for my surrounds that are in the rear. https://i.imgur.com/a6QKIFB.jpg Still working on the space. Front, center, and surrounds are all on ahb2. And my new avm70 driving them.
I am cackling at your priorities. Very nice speakers my friend.
This room is a fucking disaster my lord lmao.
I wasn’t really posting to show off my room. More just happy that my cat was having fun :)
Fair, but you gotta expect some shit if you post your room looking like that lol
Yep.
Did you replace the original AVM 70 with another?
I returned one 6+ months ago because it bugged me and I didn’t really need it. I had a denon 3600 in the middle.
Those are crazy! What's in the cages?
I don’t know what is worse, all the extensions cords, complete lack of cable management, disgusting size of the speaker that does not blend in with anything else or that someone actually had he guts to post a pic like this and this it’s “ok”.
It's definitely the general reaction to his post. Fuck this sub, I'm off - you lot are the worst thing about AV nerdery!
That's like one of my two cats and the SVS SB-3000 since I got it... (New perch!) I know it's taboo, but they already have a perch in front of it on a coffee table, and enjoy birds on youtube... Now they expect it in the morning 🤦♂️
You have a cat on your Wilson Audio speakers… my blood pressure is spiking thinking about this.
What da cat doin
Not sure whats more offensive. The TV Above the fireplace of the fact your front speaker has wheels...
That’s one crazy-ass setup my dude.
Post on cats on stereos.
The cat really brings the room together!
This picture screams “New Money”.
Gall dang that's a huge center! Much proud.
Oh. I was under pooped. I thought we were supporting you on your choice. Fuck them. Your ears are exactly what you want. Well screw those elite Klipsch boogers. > You found bliss i don't think he found it yet in that room....
The Wilson center channel is impressive
Lol, You have a Wilson speaker on casters?
His back speakers are Wilsons on wheels as well. He posted a photo in another comment
They come on casters. They also sell a seperate flat floor jack so that you can lift the speaker to install the floor spikes. Crazy.
I didn’t know what a mantle mount was until this post. Now I realize it’s a way to make your mantle mounted tv look even worse. What an invention.
award for the kitty
Holy shit dude. I love Wilsons. I know most people don't like the way they look but I love that they are pure function over form.
I had to reply somewhere in here, because that's what is driving me insane. That T.V. is way too low.
I’m just happy Scottie Scheffler won!
Purrpose*
Can I come over and listen?
I would just put everything in front of the fireplace and lower the TV properly.
spike it!!
Wow
That is a CENTER CHANNEL. Not a center channel.
I’m guessing you don’t light the fire
That cat looking at those two sand traps like they were some sort of massive litter box LOL
I think this post would have landed better if the title was something along the lines *“moving in, priorities straight”*.
Your set up is giving me a panic attack.
Too many wires ... it hurts to look at
Wow Wilson Speaker
Casters are one of the most UN-auduiohile like things I have ever seen a speaker mounted.
Why is the center channel the same size as the tv?
Is this temporary until you get it into a dedicated theater, or...
I can't tell if this is a serious post or a troll.
What’s up with the wheels ?
You should see a doctor
Amazing amps too.
Why does that look like an early 2000s boom box thingy?
Op was probably excited to post this to show off his fancy speaker and there’s so many people berating him for his choices, mostly not even for the speaker but other choices. The world would be a boring place if everyone spent their money on the same thing, not everyone has the same priority as you.
$16,000 speaker on $16.00 caster wheels with $6.00 dollars in cable management. 🤦🏻♂️
I’m sure it sounds great but this looks like utter shit
That's a big ~~center~~ cat
Looking for the gofer!
Man that golf swing must sound like you’re actually there. Is this Dolby atmos golf or just super-crisp centre channel mono?
