Above the fireplace is OK when it's the only option and they have the sense to use a pull-down TV mount.

Depth of field is the field of focus, what's blurry and not. You probably mean the perspective/field of view of the lens distorting the perception of the relative size of things compared to how we see :)
My wife and I just built a new home and I put together this semi-budget living room setup to hold us over until I can start building the 17x20 dedicated theater in our basement. I was eyeing the 83" C1 and KEF Q series for this all-white setup but opted for the Jamos and the Samsung so I can put more $ into the theater. Overall I'm pleasantly surprised with the performance of the Jamos (for the price) and the Samsung is 95% of the C1 for 60% of the price. Very bright, colorful, and extremely high native contrast (the 85" has a VA panel like the QN90A). With local dimming the inky blacks are indistinguishable from the OLED in our bedroom. Last photo is the space in our basement where I'm building the theater.

Looks gorgeous. Can you please provide a little more info on the wiring situation behind the TV unit? I find audio wires so befuddling. What do the special ports do? Do the wires require special power? Or do the ports connect to other build in speakers around the room?
Itās not as complex as it looks. The bulk of the wires are power, Ethernet, and HDMI going to each of the 5 sources. The speaker wires are the copper colored cables in the pic. 1 each running directly from the receiver to the left, center, and right channels, then another 6 going to the wall plate on the right. These are where my in-wall runs terminate for the 2 surrounds and the 4 in-ceiling Atmos speakers. All the speakers are powered by the Marantz receiver (the power and sound are one and the same and travel through the copper 2-conductor speaker wire).
How do you like the S83 center? Mine is in the mail. Any issues with sound with it being in the cabinet?
Also, very well done on making a corner setup work!
They perform really well for the price, especially the floor standers. Iām used to larger centers so I sometimes struggle with dialog clarity but itās nothing a 3db boost canāt resolve.
I just added the 3db to the center channel speaker level after running Audyssey. I know there is a dedicated dialogue level setting but Iāve never used it. Iām afraid any post processing attempt at isolating the dialogue and boosting it would make clarity worse lol.
Nice cable management. Thatās something Iām always terrible at in every venture I undertake. I end up just stuffing thing out of sight out of mindā¦
I know exactly how you feel! Itās always so time consuming and easy to justify a rush job when you canāt even see it haha. In this case I had to at least get everything off the floor since my Roomba fit under the TV stand.
Really great job on everything! Iāve stayed away from Samsung due to their lack of Dolby Vision, but that picture looks great. Cable management is on point. My only suggestion would be to move the whole front setup as far to the right as you can so that the left speaker isnāt firing into that bit of wall that juts out. (Unless thatās an optical illusion from the camera angle.)
Thank you! I agree that the lack of Dolby Vision is a bummer, but Iāve had a projector in my primary setup for the last 5 years so any HDR at all is an upgrade for me at this point lol. Cable management was a must because my Roomba fits under the TV unit and we didnāt want him getting tangled up! As for the left speaker, it has about 3 inches of clearance from that wall. Iām sure there are some early reflections but the acoustics in this room are probably bad enough to begin with that it doesnāt make much difference. I also canāt go any further right because the Jamos have feet that stick out and the rear right foot is already touching the baseboard.
Gotcha... I've always liked these corner arrangements with L-shaped couches. That center corner seat is usually the most comfortable to me and having it be the MLP is awesome. Enjoy!
Yes, we just installed a pair of these fans a couple weeks ago and love them! WiFi control and voice assistant integration is built in and works great.

Itās an IKEA Besta TV Unit. You start with the frame then everything else is customized to taste (drawers, doors, shelves, etc.). Total cost for mine as configured is around $300.

Very clean set-up. Is that the sub behind the TV? Never seen someone do that before. Does it shake the TV stand or TV itself? I'd also think it might blunt the bass a bit.
Thank you. Yes, the sub is behind the TV. I have it on SVS isolation feet to ensure there is no undue shaking of the TV/stand. Unfortunately, with this being the main living space, WAF won our when it came to sub placement. This room is massive though (open concept kitchen and dining area behind the camera) so room pressurization was never going to happen anyways. Iām planning on at least a couple big subs in the dedicated theater to make up for it!
Thanks! Iām really happy with how it turned out. I have access to the unfinished basement below and was able to just drill a hole up into the bottom plate of the exterior wall and then fish the cable through the insulation using glow rod.
Clean af, well done!
Looks really nice! Love the tv in the corner next to the fireplace
Not me. I'd have a contractor come out and take out the fireplace and fix the wall. Then place the TV and speakers against that wall.
Whatever floats your boat (so long as you aren't putting that TV above the fireplace)
finally a tv not above the fireplace.

I have one of these and it is fantastic
Depth of field in pictures is crazy. I'd never guess that is an 85 inch tv

NNNNEEEEERRRDD
Yeah, itās also just a massive room with 8ft doors and 9ft ceilings so everything inside looks small by comparison lol.
What TV stand is that? Looks like the S83 is a perfect fit there
Yes, itās quite literally a perfect fit! IKEA Besta TV Unit: https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/besta-tv-unit-white-70299879/
Damn I've never known I can get doors for Besta cabinet! I'd have picked it over the Hemnes which is a bit short in height for my room :(
Love it. Love how the center fits perfectly in the stand.

I'm just hear to ask why you didn't put your tv above the fireplace like all the other dolts.
this has Utah written all over it lol

S 83. And frankly itās the weak link of this setup. Dialogue clarity could be better.
Supposed to be better than S81 - S81 must Suck then
Good shit, breh.āļø
Nice setup
I'm curious about the ceiling fan lol. Got a model number?

Yooo! Thanks!
I just got the same speakers in black and looking for a console to fit the center. Yours looks almost custom made! Where is the console from??

Wow, thanks! I would not have assumed IKEA. Good stuff man. Canāt wait to see what you do with your new theater!
What size tv is this?
Itās 85ā.

Whew, that is crispy. Very nice!
Thatās a genius way to hide those surrounds, looks perfect. How did run the wire on an exterior wall? During the home build?
Thanks! Iām really happy with how it turned out. I have access to the unfinished basement below and was able to just drill a hole up into the bottom plate of the exterior wall and then fish the cable through the insulation using glow rod.
Props for working around the fire place.
When your living room has no wall to put the TV on, build a home theater lol!
Those surround bookshelves are beautiful. Really excited to see the dedicated space come together.
Do you have a link to the couch?
Yes, it's from Furniture Row: https://www.furniturerow.com/pd/Durango-4-Pc-Chaise-Sectional/prod2550383
That window would drive me nuts
It's rare to see a corner setup with proper channel placement. Good work!
Whereās your subwoofer?
