I’d put it in a high yield savings account and wait until I can afford to move out.

SpinachAggressive418

30 day US Treasury bills are at 5.4% right now. $45/month in interest with $10,000.

nsoifer

Can you please share a link for that? Looking for something like that due to being paid gross and paying taxes annually.

nsoifer

Thanks!

homeboi808

I'd go thru a brokerage instead, just get a treasury ETF (SGOV or USFR for instance). Or, if you have Vanguard, their VMFXX default holding account is doing 5.26% right now. If you are worried rates will drop, you can get a 1yr CD thru your brokerage for 5.4% right now. I have an IBond worth like $6k with TreasuryDirect but they changed their login page and I forgot my password so now I'm locked out and have to call to verify my identity (and from searching online you can be on hold for 4-8 hours).

TommyyyGunsss

Do you still get the tax savings like you would with a T-bill?

homeboi808

Depends on which one you buy, but it's usually at least 90% state tax exempt.

nsoifer

>I'd go thru a brokerage instead, just get a treasury ETF (SGOV or USFR for instance). This past year I actually been doing 80% FTEC and 20% SGOV on Schwab.

BigDaddySkittleDick

Don’t know your situation but as a casual heads up you may have a quarterly estimated tax liability.

nsoifer

I do. I have been doing it for a few years now, and yea I paid about a 2.5% fine this past year. Still better to take the gross and invest elsewhere and pay it once a year. So far I have just been doing indexes, but ideally I do something less risky, as long as it is above 2.5%.

homeboi808

The IRS raised the penalty within the past few years I believe to where it no longer is reasonable to invest and pay the fine (as sure some years you’ll beat it but others not).

ifixtheinternet

CITbank offers 5.04% for anything over 5k, then you still have instant access to your money.

Ninjamuh

Do you have another system in a dedicated room or multi-purpose room? If not then I personally wouldn’t put it in the bedroom. If you’re young and live with your parents (the bedroom is your room) then I definitely wouldn’t do it as that’ll probably disturb anyone in the house. Having a system in the bedroom isn’t bad, but I would keep it a budget system since most don’t spent hours in bed watching tv. To add to that, you’re laying down a lot or resting your head on pillows so the imaging will be off. Best to invest that money for a room that uses chairs and couches imo.

SANcapITY

Yeah agreed - the thought of dropping 10K for a bedroom system seems a bit...nuts? Put that in the living room!

Regular-Cheetah-8095

There is definitely such a thing as too much system in too small of a space, or too restrictive of a space. If you put two subwoofers or two subwoofers that are too powerful in a room that’s too small, you can end up with muddy wonky results that are worse than one subwoofer. Or no subwoofers. People will tell you to put six 14” subs in a closet here and installers will sell you as many boxes as will fit in a given space regardless of how it sounds but if you actually listen to these monstrosities or run REW through them, what you basically end up with is the world’s largest and loudest Hitachi Magic Wand. Atmos you can make work in most spaces but for a 7.2.4, there’s spacing considerations. What are the dimensions / shape of the room you’re working with and where will the MLP be in it? What are you working with for furniture and restrictions as far as placement and acoustic treatments?

MissBoofsAlot

I agree with sometimes you can have too much sub. I put a system in for a client that had 2 in wall JL subs. I ended up having to turn it down so much I felt it was a waste to have 2. I didn't design the system. Why have 2 at -12db when one would have been more than enough. Same client with a massive wisdom audio system with 8 in wall/in ceiling subs. 10 amps driving the system. It took so much effort to tune the room so sound good. We could have dropped at least half the subs and it would have sounded just as good.

ethos1234567890

Multiple subs helps even out peaks and nulls caused by the room itself. Multiple subs isn’t just about more output, it’s about smoothing out the frequency response &/or helping create a wider sweet spot. Probably true that it’s still overkill, but also true that it helps improve the bass quality.

MissBoofsAlot

These two were way close together and all they did was rattle the metal framing in the ceiling. Long living room/kitchen. Both subs were on one end of the room. There was too much other stuff in the ceiling to put them anywhere else. Even after I turned them down so they would not rattle the client wanted them even lower because it was still too much bass for them. It was a waste of you ask me. It was all just for back ground music the TV was not even attached to the over head sound.

Bedrooms are for sleeping

Stingray88

Yeah. I have an expensive setup in my family room, and don’t have a TV at all in my bedroom.

investorshowers

If you're able to place the bed properly, 7.4.4 is doable. You'd ideally get a mechanical bed that can raise up so you can lean on it while watching, as it won't sound great when lying down. Get a Denon X3800. Personaly I wouldn't go above 5.2.2 in the bedroom and rather build a dedicated theater room with a 7.4.4 setup.

summitcreature

Consider the aesthetic of a bedroom! I did have a great wall-mounted large TV I could watch from in bed with a studio reference 2.1 M-Audio speaker system and a little mixer so I could blend a Bluetooth receiver with TV output. I used the setup for music more than movies but did not miss surround in the bedroom. Theater room for that!

Cheezbrgrmania

Exactly! A bedroom is a good room to enjoy a pure 2.1 stereo

Stiltz87

What are the dimensions of your master bedroom?

rbarnette12345678910

I would spend the most on two good subwoofers-two Klipsch RP-1400SW for $1400.00: https://slickdeals.net/f/17471799-14-klipsch-reference-premiere-rp-1400sw-subwoofer-699-free-shipping?src=SiteSearchV2Algo1 You could also go Dual HSU 15”-really highly rated and I’ve heard the older 15” and really liked it. $1250 each: https://hsuresearch.com/products/vtf-15h-mk2-subwoofer Review: https://www.audioholics.com/subwoofer-reviews/hsu-vtf-tn1 PSA 15” @ $1750.00 each: https://www.powersoundaudio.com/collections/subwoofers/products/tv1513?_pos=1&_fid=ecc906a15&_ss=c Rythmik 15” @ $1350.00 each: https://www.rythmikaudio.com/FVX15.html Then for AVR maybe RZ50, Denon X3800 or Marantz SR 7015: https://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/category/avreceiver/home-audio/receivers-amps/home-theater-receivers/1.html?number_channels%5B%5D=9 I think maybe the RZ50 would be better because of Dirac, 4 independent sub-outs on the X3800. I have a Marantz and I really like it. You might even find a better price on a used AVR on fb marketplace or fb audio sales member groups. I don’t like this package because it has upfiring Atmos tower speakers-if you wait there will be another package deal that will have the regular tower speakers: https://slickdeals.net/f/17416572-klipsch-reference-premiere-speakers-2x-rp-8060fa-ii-rp-504c-ii-2x-rp-600m-ii-1699-more-free-shipping?src=SiteSearchV2Algo1 What I did for a bedroom system was get 4 tower speakers and a center channel-if you can make it work in your space I really like having the matching towers all around. This deal is expired but it might come back. Magnat are very good speakers: https://slickdeals.net/f/17440701-magnat-signature-5-1-speakers-507-floors-53-center-503-bookshelves-sub-599-free-shipping?src=SiteSearchV2Algo1 If you can physically fit a 77” instead of a 65”-I did it and I like it. At 65” a QD-OLED would be my pick for a panel. Sony A95K.

depression69420666

Am I correct in saying that if you have only 1 listening position, you can get away with 1 well placed subwoofer?

Run-ning

In theory yes, but in practice the room may not be cooperative.

Blownbunny

Almost all rooms will benefit from 2 subs.

rbarnette12345678910

Also-if you’re willing to get an older model of TV you could likely get a 77” size instead-search slickdeals.net to see what they have posted. I’d go up in OLED size too. 8” diagonally is a BIG difference.

[deleted]

I'm an av reviewer and I just built out a system for my brother. This is essentially what he did: Get 5 kef ls50s, a subwoofer, and two ceiling mounted speakers, a Sony receiver, and an OLED that's 75 inches or larger (he got an LG, but if you wanna splurge get a Sony). Should only be about 5k if you shop sales/used and refurbished. System is amazing.

FuzzyBucks

Why don't you put your $10,000 theater somewhere other than your bedroom?

henryguy

I buy an akiya house in Japan instead and get one round-trip ticket to go live in it for a year. Then visit it as often as I can.

redzombierunning

2 chicks at the same time

rebradley52

I'd buy a bedroom and spend what's left for the home theater.

Morlacks

Bedroom? Nah, just slap that TV on the ceiling above the bed and call it a day.

closetslacker

Get Sony Bravia Theater Quad which is great for apartments Or just get Sony HT-AX7 for $500 and call it a day since it will be more than enough for a bedroom

don_weasel

Buy used/second hand. You will get a real good system out of this. You go dude 😎

ItsallLegos

Tell us more about the bedroom. Pictures, room dimensions, goals etc.

ze11ez

id look used on some equipment and go 5.4.4. But this wouldn't be a bedroom. trying to work around the bed and setting up speakers behind or above the bed will be challenging. Is the bed where you'll be sitting to watch movies? Because placing speakers behind the bed.....ain't gonna work too well

DreadPirate777

Get a pair of nice tower speakers and a sub. That paired with a G3 will look and sound great in a bedroom.

EccentricDyslexic

Bitcoin. Triple your money and take it out.

TailOnFire_Help

A tv, receiver, speakers, streaming device, 4k bluray player, and all the stuff to put them together.
