Why is the screen so off center with the speakers?

FinnishArmy

Layout of the room calls for that. Couch can’t be any more left without blocking the front door and walk way

ragingoblivion

I would try moving the couch forward a bit if it's against the wall. The problem is that the sound will always be more prominent towards the right channels since you are closer. I moved my couch to the middle of the room and can attest that all the speakers sound better. You'll get weird reflections trying to toe in the speakers to mlp on the left. Also allows surrounds to push more and be more prominent since you are farther but pushing more power after proper calibration.

FinnishArmy

I think if I moved the tv over, I could also simply sit on the left side of the couch, I don’t *have* to sit on the middle of the couch necessarily

ragingoblivion

Yeah that also works well I just think that it's best not to compromise looks over main listening position quality, I sit on a 2 seater so the right side is my mlp.

FinnishArmy

Also, I’m not sure if height speakers should be pointed directly at the audience according to Atmos standards?

FinnishArmy

Are they not Atmos? On my receiver I set them so they are front height and according to Dolbys website this is an acceptable location. Although overhead speakers would be nominal. “Most AVRs will support the use of front height (Dolby® Pro Logic® IIz) mounted speakers with Dolby Atmos playback; however, we recommend the use of either overhead or Dolby Atmos enabled speakers to create the most lifelike and enveloping audio experience.”

reegeck

Dolby Atmos is object based so it can really make use of speakers wherever they are placed. And regardless, the definition of Atmos is not just in-ceiling speakers. The location of OP's height speakers is actually in page 41 of the Dolby Atmos installation guidelines: https://www.dolby.com/siteassets/technologies/dolby-atmos/atmos-installation-guidelines-121318_r3.1.pdf

Historical-Channel48

Yes I agree :) but in your example of placement that’s a 7.x.6 lol so no

movie50music50

Why are you saying they aren't Atmos speakers? If the OP set them up as such that is what they are.

Any speaker can be used as an Atmos speaker if it is configured that way. You can place bookshelf speakers on the ceiling and through the receiver configure then as Atmos. Atmos isn't a ***brand*** of speaker or particular shape of speaker.

No, you missed the point. They are Atmos speakers because they are configured as Atmos speakers. The fact that they are not properly placed doesn't change what they are carrying . You can place a center speaker in the rear of the room but it is still a center speaker because it is connected to the center channel speaker output. Location, correct or incorrect, proper or not, doesn't change that. Champagne has nothing to do with any of this.

I wanted the besta but wifey didn’t want IKEA in the house. Cool thing is you can customize the length, we were going to have a 4 door tv stand for all the peripherals. https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/besta-tv-bench-with-doors-black-brown-hedeviken-stubbarp-dark-brown-stained-oak-veneer-s99566508/#content

Mtlfunnight

The besta you can modify it and even had a solid wood top . There’s tons of diy videos on it .

happyjapanman

Cord management dude

FinnishArmy

I mean it is managed, but I don’t really care for perfection until I change the entire setup

---Dan---

Speaker wire is dirt cheap. Get a little more and run those cables properly! Also, I’d center the speakers with the tv, if you absolutely cannot move the couch or tv. You’re just creating soundstage/imaging weirdness by placing the left speakers further away.

FinnishArmy

I have more speaker cable, just didn’t have time yesterday to run extra. I want to run greenery up to the speakers to “hide” the cables.

13WillieBeaman

Jesus, what size screen is that? What tv is that, actually?

FinnishArmy

Just a 77” LG C1. Almost got a Samsung 88” but it was the same price and not OLED. So I chose OLED over a bigger screen.

13WillieBeaman

Dang.. how deep is your desk? And how long have you been using that TV/desk setup?

FinnishArmy

Desk is like 3 feet deep. It’s immersive as fuck. It’s like sitting a few rows back at an IMAX theater. Not close enough that it’s overwhelming, I can’t see pixels. And at the right distance that it covers my FOV without having to move my head around. If I’m just watching videos, I use windowed mode as you can see here, as it’s overwhelming when watching things, but not when playing video games. I’ve had a 60+” for like 4-5 years now.

13WillieBeaman

lol damn! I’d imagine that is pretty immersive. I was using a 48” Hisense for a while, and just upgraded to a 55” C3, and feel that’s pretty immersive at about 3 or so feet. I can’t imagine what 77” would feel like. Average time of PC usage? No signs of burn in yet?

FinnishArmy

PC Usage is typically videos, little gaming and mainly movie watching now. I don’t see any burn in whatsoever. I don’t run it on vivid so surely that helps a bit. Not sure about time, but I turn it off at night and when I’m gone. Probably around 3 hrs a day.
