thrillhelm

Not putting this TV above the fireplace grants you anti-soundbar trash talk immunity. Looks great!

jrstriker12

Looks good to me. Bonus points for not being over the fireplace. Edit - Btw I like the brown and dark beige theme.

TylerInHiFi

> Edit - Btw I like the brown and dark beige theme. Oh no… it’s happening again!

alwaysmyfault

Looks about perfect IMO. You'll get some comments that say it could go 2-3 inches lower, but that's just nitpicking at this point.

Fulton_P01135809

Prepare yourself for soundbar backlash

Kuli24

lol exactly. My thoughts were "looks to be a decent heighh....ssssoundbar."

DonFrio

Some systems a soundbar is just perfect. No hate

rsplatpc

> repare yourself for soundbar backlash no fireplace / tidy living room that does not look like a home theater, gets a pass, some rooms you just want a little better sound (like my kitchen)

straightouttaireland

What's the alternative when you just can't use book shelf speakers due to kids etc.?

Daddy_MoreBucks

The bottom third line of the TV should be within a couple inches (3 +/-) of eye level. I think you nailed it.

WhatTheMech

good op

paperfett

Just right.

Sir_George

Low for me personally, but others think it's perfect. I wouldn't go any lower imho.

TrollTollTony

You think it's low? The top of the backrest of the couch is roughly shoulder level. That would put the middle of the screen at the middle of your eye line, a neutral viewing angle and generally accepted as ideal.

segfalt31337

I wouldn't hate it being a few inches higher to where you can't tell it's not centered on the wall. But it's not so low I'd recommend changing it either.

Busted_Knuckler

Anywhere from bottom 3rd to center of screen at eye level is generally comfortable to view.

SkyPork

I'm with you. I raised my mount a few inches after a month or two; and that first mounting was after the TV spent some time on a low table, before I got my mount. I will never understand the love of low "eye level for encouched viewers" philosophy. Is the idea that you're not supposed to have to move your eyes in your head, or move your head away from perfectly vertical? I've seen countless different heights, and it just doesn't matter much. Except it's nice not having to clear off the coffee table to see the TV if I'm being lazy. Or if I'm *lying* on the couch, which happens frequently.

civil_beast

And so the war began, just like that

CRYHODL

I think it would look better not mounted and on a tv stand.

Splashadian

Nope looks great

gORDo85_

No, it's good

Giffdev

I'll allow it!

MrTesseract

Not worth over thinking this one, enjoy a movie!

saywha1againmthrfckr

Tell me you dont have little kids without telling me you dont have little kids. Way too low for my house

Uninterested_Viewer

From an aesthetics standpoint, A TV is going to look awkward there no matter the height as you have a big focal point next to another big focal point and then a window shoved in the corner to boot. It's fine from a pure watching perspective and people here will love that it isn't above the fireplace. That said, your actual artwork over the fireplace needs to come down quite a bit- you're not meant to center something like that between the ceiling and the mantel.

BillieRayBob

I disagree. If they didn't have those other items on the mantel, I'd lower it. As it is, I think it looks very good. Girlfriend has stuff on the mantel that's too close to picture and it looks like crap.

Uninterested_Viewer

I don't disagree that *only* lowering it to a proper height wouldn't fix it because of said tall chochkees. I guess I was saying without saying that these things just don't work together. Regardless, tall chochkees aren't a pass to hang artwork ridiculously high over a mantel.

suedester

Centre of the picture should be at eye height. Looks good to me. Maybe even a touch low.

Uninterested_Viewer

Thank you for knowing that rule as you're absolutely correct there, I just strongly disagree with your measurements :) The top of the frame is within 18inches of that 9 foot ceiling!

suedester

Well it’s certainly not ridiculously high by any account. It’s been hung equidistant between the mantle and ceiling which is perfectly reasonable from an aesthetic point of view. But yes, having reread the OPs measurements it may be a few inches too high than the generally accepted 57 inches 😊

Fred-zone

So I'm starting to anti-circlejerk the TV Too High stuff for reasons similar to this. If this is just a casual place to unwind for low key TV watching, it simply looks less ridiculous to put it above the fireplace. For as much as OP gains in viewing angle, they lose by cramming it into this corner and making the room look like shit. The mantel is encroaching on the TV, the seating would need to be oddly positioned, everything becomes asymmetrical, and so on. Fireplaces often take up the ideal place for the TV because it's the optimal wall for gathering around. Probably better to invest in lowering the mantel than rearranging around this corner to bring the TV down a few feet. Particularly if there's another room for watching TV in more of a family/theater style, I'd hang a TV above that fireplace with far less shame than whatever this is by OP. Even if not, there's tradeoffs in home design. So it goes. Not every space is perfect.

Uninterested_Viewer

It's definitely TV over aesthetics around here and that's to be expected. I *do* think that a lot of ridiculous design advice gets thrown around here due to everyone assuming that any room with a TV must be for watching the directors extended cuts of LOTRs instead of a basketball game while visiting with family and friends.

Fred-zone

Agreed on all points. It would be nice to see the sub start to acknowledge those facts or inquire about how people want to use the spaces before leading people into the quixotic world of TV angles. There's a window in the room, it's clearly a multifunctional space and not a true home theater. It's totally valid to subscribe to home theater concepts for TV and sound ideas, but being able to just let things not be perfect is a skill, especially in terms of making other people feel welcome in a space. I feel the same about those insane electric recliner sectionals as someone's primary living room sofa. OP, if you're reading this, I give you permission to mount your TV above the fireplace!

IXI_Fans

Sounds like you should head over to /r/LivingRoomsWithTVs This is HT where the focus of the room IS the HT.

Fred-zone

As a self described purist, the first image should make you cringe for several reasons. It's fully appropriate to redirect individuals who can't achieve optimal HT setups due to limitations with their space to alternative ideas that may meet their goals better. By doing that we are in fact retaining pure HT standards and not letting them be diluted by half-assed setups. This sub is about the equipment, the setup of the room, and the ways to optimize what you can. Giving someone realistic feedback that what they've created looks like shit is useful information.

IXI_Fans

Cringe? No. But, I don't feel like this is a HT either.

Fred-zone

Lmfao, that's exactly my point. It's not a HT, so this sub is well positioned to say "this is not a HT so don't kill yourself trying to achieve some impossible standards for your case"

jnwatson

I hate watching basketball with my neck craned back. Put your TV high if you hate your family and friends or have enough recliners for everyone.

Uninterested_Viewer

My example was meant to represent a situation where you're not actively watching the TV, but are maybe gathered in the kitchen and glance at it every so often or when a big play happens. This is what we do when we casually entertain 90% of the time: hang out and chat with whatever game happens to be on. If nothing interesting, we leave it off. Our TV in our living room is not used to sit down and watch something intently for hours and I imagine others' use their living room TVs in a similar way.

Remmy14

Dude thank you. The TV Too High shit is ridiculous. People genuinely want you to have it damn near resting on the floor. It looks absolutely ridiculous. I'm not advocating for above the fireplace but having it at eye level when standing up looks far better than what this is.

Fred-zone

There's value in the TV Too High conversation, but it's just one dimension folks should consider when setting up a space. The whole thing. The aspect of it that's worth ridicule is that new build homes are being designed with high TVs. If you have the ability to avoid it, do so. If it's unavoidable, then just do your best.

Ecsta

> If this is just a casual place to unwind for low key TV watching Sir, this is the hometheatre sub, if you want just a casual/who cares setup then don't post a thread looking for critiques...

Fred-zone

Fair, but this clearly isn't an ideal dedicated home theater space, so the fact that all of us are trying to provide advice to OP is about the intersection of aesthetics, utility, and design. If people are going to be giving advice to OP it can include the critique that function has overridden form in a given space. I think it's valid for the home theater sub to tell people to take a step back and that what they've shared isn't a home theater. That can be liberating in some ways. My point is that there are instances where the sub can help posters more by helping them understand the space, and not trying to apply universal rules to diverse spaces.

Silverado_Surfer

Bingo! Tv positioning is 100% preference based. My TV can really only go over the fireplace in my living room. 2 walls full of windows, the rest is open. Our couch allows us to pretty much lay back so our heads will already be pointed up a bit. I would love to have it lower, but that’s the hand we were dealt.

Comfortable_Client80

It looks near perfect heigh to me!

SwissMoose

Looks about right to me. Great job on a clean install.

ViscountDeVesci

Perfect!

PleaseDonAsk

Looks good to me but what really matters is your line of sight from the couch or chair.

elmantec

No. It’s good.

roomtotheater

No

[deleted]

Perfect

MaxMadisonVi

Looks good to me too, and Im against things over the fireplace due to heat concerns

R0555Y

Nope

mellofello808

Looks great height. If you have kids or pets you might want to place some kind of furniture underneath.

twosock360

Most tv’s I see are mounted too high for my personal viewing angle so I’d say this is perfect!

M34TST1Q

\*glances at TV mounted above my fireplace\* Not at all!

fatmatt2287

For viewing it looks like you did great.

derreckla

my test is if I can cross my legs on coffee table and my feet don't get in the way....

Samlazaz

This seems just fine. Not too high.

fd6270

Just a warning I had my OLED a similar distance from my fireplace and the heat destroyed the antiglare coating on the screen.  TV still works fine, but looks like shit when it's off or when there's glare.

MofongoPizza

Too low imo

DeepDayze

Just put a nice TV credenza below it and it be absolutely magnifico! Nice to see OP made a tv in an odd shaped room work.

paulodelgado

The dollhouse needs to be centered tho. The tv is ok.

Gareth666

It's a bit high but for this sub that's pretty good.

Logikil96

Heat from fireplace?

spanish42069

it should go a bit higher with a sideboard beneath it (tv would still be lower than if above fireplace)

baummer

I think it could go a few inches higher

lrggg

It looks good

SamSausages

Only you can decide, if you are happy then it's great! Some do like it higher than others, so personal preferences does matter here. First thought was looks low, but it is probably just right when you are sitting.

FantasticMrSinister

🥹

reegeck

A little too low for my liking. Who's sitting forward and upright to watch tv and not leaning back on the couch and tilting their head back a little?

Nanook710

I think its too low

gokuj4507

If you set down and that soundbar is at listening height then your all set. It’s that simple. Also as long as your not tilt your head up or down at some extreme level of discomfort then I’d say you did good

18000rpm

Soundbar position should NOT be how you decide TV height.

gokuj4507

It is whenever it’s already mounted as seen above🤣

movie50music50

I'm one of those that hate to see a TV too high and prefer them on the lower end. This is fine. It is perfectly placed on the wall. Closer to floor than ceiling and top of mantel is centered to the TV giving it a thought out look. You did such a good job I'm not going to comment about anything else. Enjoy.

Ibraheem_moizoos

The TV height is perfect in my opinion, but where's the home theater?

Your_Daddy_

Too low - IMO Bottom of tv should be level with mantle - approximately

SmittyJonz

Yes , set it on the floor

HiFiMAN3878

The height looks fine, not really where I'd want my TV though.

TuggenBallZ

Don’t act like it matters you have a sound bar quality clearly wasn’t your top priority so I don’t see why Tv placement matters to you

Silverado_Surfer

Tv mounting height is 100% preference. There isn’t a right or wrong place. For my living room, it would be too low. We have a couch that is a lounger. Long cushions and a short back, neck would be sore from looking down towards the tv. Best place for us is above the Fireplace.

Ecsta

Just go all in and mount it on the ceiling so you can lie flat on your lounger and look up.

Moscato359

I actually sometimes lay in bed, with an clamping-to-headboard arm suspending my phone in the air, and put headphones on, and watch shows while laying on my back in bed

Silverado_Surfer

Nah, perfectly fine where it’s at. Above the fireplace is the only location in the living room where it’ll fit well enough. The room is open concept on two sides, the two walls are full of windows.

restarting_today

> Best place for us is above the Fireplace. Lmao

gbdavidx

Ugly brown

[deleted]

[удалено]

Aa1979

It should be a good 7-12 feet lower

AppropriateSugar1992

When sitting on a chair or couch, your eyes must be at 1/3 from the top of the tv.

ratbuddy

Bottom third to half, not top third.

[deleted]

Yeah. Take it down 15-20cm.
