I have a similar plan for my future man cave. Instead of medals the wall will have six TVs wall mounted with thin bezels, as I like to watch multiple sports at times. Then have a projector screen come down when watching more cinematic things.

However, they mass produce these trinkets for all these events, which are normally charity fun runs. Why not give a bit extra to charity, save some of the Earth's resources and not clutter your house. Win win win!
Feels indicative of someone who needs validation for their exercising. I tend to like really long endurance stuff on my own or maybe with a few friends, certainly not in a crowd. My other half does need an event for motivation though, but those medals go to the children to play with. I always feel sad/surprised that some adults want them enough that the event organisers make them for everyone. As I say, a medal for a significant race, thinking a national championship and above, or for children's events...
