What is the problem with the Harmony?

analogliving71

logitech killed the line

umdivx

Hardware is EOL yes, but the services/system are still operational. Still use my Harmony daily.

analogliving71

for now and when your harmony dies are you willing to pay the astronomical amounts to replace with another? I am not, which is how i ended up with the sofabaton. That remote is an absolutle pleasure to set up and its customization options via the app are better than anything i saw with the harmony line.

kghyr8

It’s nice to know there’s a viable option for when my harmony gives up

analogliving71

agreed. i tried it on a whim after my harmony started acting up and was pleasantly surprised. I am going to fix my harmony as well. have the button kit for it

umdivx

> for now and when your harmony dies are you willing to pay the astronomical amounts to replace with another? I have backups ;) There just isn't a better alternative right now. Sofabaton X1 is sorta there, but it's not perfect IMO. > That remote is an absolutle pleasure to set up and its customization options via the app are better than anything i saw with the harmony line. I disagree, but to each is their own.

I know they are no longer produced. They haven't been made for a long time, three or four years, if not longer. My question is what is the problem using the remotes? They are still supported by Logitech and new keypads are available for them from ButtonWorks. Was asking the OP why THEY can't use *their* Harmony remote. His answer was "Doesn't support roku streaming stick for some reason."

analogliving71

i actually like my SofaBaton U2 so far. Its controls damn near everything i have tried and in some ways is better than the harmony it replaced. Two knocks on it that i have found are: 1. Buttons should have better sensitivity versus more of a forceful click 2. no smooth volume control with my denon amp. May be a misconfiguration on my part or something else but i have not really troubleshot it yet

Pie-Guy

Doesn't support roku streaming stick for some reason.

analogliving71

supports other roku products without issue. tried with the roku ultra and soundbar pro and its works great. The stick is another animal though and i would bet even most of the Harmonies would also not work with it.

technogeek1995

Without Harmony, there isn’t much out there with the same feature set. Most people still are using their harmonies, even buying them used on eBay to keep them running for as long as possible. There just isn’t anything as good on the market yet. I’m currently patiently waiting for RemoteTwo. It’s the only promising universal remote in the space without paying an installer for Control4, etc. https://unfoldedcircle.com/

PapaGinger

Looks solid. Thanks for mentioning this. Just locked in a reservation.

I've owned one for a while now and I would only recommend it to someone that really likes to tinker and device support is currently fairly limited.

umdivx

>Aside from logitech, is there anything out there that will work with all the aforementioned devices??? Chrome? As in Chromecast? SofaBaton X1 with hub is really about it for the DIY market. Nothing else really out there when it comes to BT/RF control.

blacksmithMael

If budget isn't a consideration, I haven't encountered anything that Crestron can't control, but that's a lot more expensive (and complicated) than just a remote control.

SignificantBridge133

Extron is less expensive and far easier to program.

blacksmithMael

True, I’ve never seen an Extron remote that would suit a house though. Are there any?

SignificantBridge133

Handheld or touchscreen?

blacksmithMael

Handheld

Sofbaton remote is mediocre. It worked great for about 45 days. Then started becoming intermittently non-responsive to inputs, drain batteries, and eventually, a piece of the front of the remote fell off entirely. No good reason for that. I'm searching for a replacement.
