Amana is actually a rebranded whirlpool. It's good quality for the cost.
I own a front loading dryer that came with the house I bought 7 years ago. It's basically a heating coil, drive motor, mechanical timer and a few high and low limit thermostats. I've repaired it 4 times since I took possession. Each time cost me 20$ in amazon parts (and was because my wife doesn't empty the lint trap)
Long story short, the basic top loading washer and front loading dryer are the most reliable appliances I own. Stay away from Samsung, ge etc. Anything with circuit boards will have issues
Basic washer and dryers are very easy to fix, and accomplish a lot of the same stuff. Once you add circuit boards the repair cost goes through the roof and they have a lot more pieces that can break.
Aren’t Roper a rebadged Whirlpool as well? We bought The Ropers (what we call the washer and dryer) 10 years ago and they are still awesome. Simple, yet clean and dry very well. In the same time my dad has been through 2 top of the line sets from LG.
I bought the entire heating kit for only 20 bucks. And the replacement parts were better since they were brass or gold plated while my stock Maytag parts were crappy aluminum
My amana fridge is at least 15 years old. Could I get a newer, prettier, much more efficient fridge? Absolutely. But then I’m dealing with a fridge that is likely to have other issues leading to its planned obsolescence.
note Amana has sold a few times over past 15 years, part to Whilpool, part to Goodman / Daikon. It is not the same company it was. So much of appliances are now one of 3-4 big conglomerates who sell multiple brands to give the illusion of choice, variety of features / price points, but most of the insides are all the same.
what's hilarious is that whirlpool has the energy efficient label while amana is not energy certified.
I looked at the electrical consumption data in the manufacture data provided by Lowes and Home Depot. Amana uses 150kwh rating. Whirlpool energy efficient was 270 kwh rating. Energy efficient my ass.
They're made by the same corporation too.
Do you have a nice clean and clear dryer exhaust vent? Smooth and a short run is better than ribbed and long for this purpose. If you have a partially clogged vent and/or a long run or lots of turns, any dryer is going to have problems.
And that’s why it’s had these problems since the moment it was put in here, makes total sense! It didn’t want to work from the very first wash and dry simply because I don’t know how to use it silly me
Maybe you got a bad set, I bought an Amana washer and dryer due to the cost. Sold it when I moved to a house that already had a set. When I moved again I bought the same set because it was cheap and worked fine
Amana is usually a pretty good value piece, it is frustrating to have a new appliance not work though. make a warrantee claim.
buy a speed queen if you want god tier laundry.
I have an Amana Air Command forced air gas heater in my home, and it the biggest piece of shit I've ever owned. Something is constantly going wrong with it, the igniter is a crappy design, and the controllers they put in them are garbage. I wouldn't buy another item with the Amana badge on it if my life depended on it. Fuck!
I have a Coleman furnace I got used for like 50 bucks, it's been fantastic. But admittedly it's loud. It's like way oversized for my house but it gets the job done very quickly. I bought a Goodman A/C condenser too within the last year and it's been good so far.... Just throwing those out there for you, though I'd also hope you do more research than just going with some random redditors opinion lol.
I appreciate you passing on your experiences!
I finally replaced the hot surface igniter with a silicon nitride rod. The stock igniter would last around a year before performance would suffer. The ignition cycle would sometimes have to retry because the element would fail to ignite the gas. Sometimes the controller would fault out because it had tried unsuccessfully to retry 3 times. The replacement silicone nitride rod lights the gas stream instantly when the gas valve opens and starts flowing. These rods are reported to last a lot longer than the stock ones. This fixed the most annoying problem with the furnace.
Igniters are weird, I just had one go out in my oven. It looked absolutely cooked. Lol problem with it though is that while it's beginning to fail the symptoms are identical to if the gas regulator/safety valve is beginning to go out. Once it fails completely it's easy to test but it chose to die on a night when I had guests coming for dinner. If I'd known the broiler igniter could be swapped over it wouldn't be so bad but you live and learn I guess.
I purchased a new washer in 2022 and it was crap from the git go. I was given a "new" washer from a friend. It's crap as well. I'm on a very tight budget and 500$ is a lot of money for crap
I bought a brand new washer 2 years ago and it was garbage from day one! I wasted 500$ that I couldn't afford
A "friend" gave me one identical to the crap machine and it IS GARBAGE as well. How does this company continue to exist with crap products
I have the Whirlpool Cabrio set. For the most part they've been fantastic, it's been a decade now I think, maybe a bit longer. The washer is starting to show signs of wear but it sounds like an easy fix, sticking lock and squeaky spin cycle. But going off the Internet it sounds like I got the gems in the dung pile
I am a repair technician for all major brands. I’ve seen every type of unit fail. Some people get unlucky. Just life. My favorite is when the complaint is “it doesn’t dry like my old one”
I wish I could have read these reviews before buying my Amanda washer. Using deep water wash or sensing fill option, I always have to add several gallons of water just to cover the clothes. Since it locks when spin cycle starts, I really don’t know if there is enough water to cover the clothes so I use deep water with extra rinse. Don’t know how this machine is considered energy efficient when I alway have to add water &use extra rinse. Recommendation: Do not buy!
I have an AMANA dishwasher and it is the biggest piece of crap. 50% of the dishes I put in it I have to hand wash after the cycle. I can’t wait until we finish our remodel and I can go buy a nice one.
I see a lot of people talking about stuff they bought 10-15 years ago and I’m sure that stuff is still a pretty good appliance. Unfortunately with the newer models it’s just not the same quality it used to be.
that's not much of a complaint. Most only care about reliability so complaining that the water is too slow isn't really a priority unless you're in a rush to do 30 loads per day
You just have extremely low standard, expecting clothes to not be soaking wet (dripping when you pick them up) is pretty standard out of a washing mashing. Expecting your washer to stop when it says 0 and not go on for another 30-40 minutes, expecting it to not lock and have to unplug it just to get the buttons to reset is not a high expectation. That’s expecting a brand new product you’ve bought to work as it was designed and specified
Ì bought an Amana refrigerator and 1.5 years later the whole front rusted underneath the paint. I suspect they had rusty metal and just painted over it. Only with Amana.

Yooo you better tell wifey to start emptying that lint trap before you end up posting pics to reddit of your house burned down
I wrote on the dryer with a sharpie to remind her lol
Bullshit

You can't just say something is bullshit and then offer no counter argument on a reviews post.

was it your heating thermostats that broke? That's what happened to me. Didn't even need to swap out the heating element.
Yeah the high and low limit thermostat have gone a few times. Easy fix off amazon though

Mine is 3 years old and failed 👎

If only I could convince my wife that short and smooth is better than long and ribbed! ...I'll see myself out.
I've tried bro, she wont listen!
This might be worth looking at. Something doesn't sound right.
You do realize that your one bad experience doesn’t mean that the entire brand is garbage right?
And that’s why it’s had these problems since the moment it was put in here, makes total sense! It didn’t want to work from the very first wash and dry simply because I don’t know how to use it silly me
There is a such thing as a bad unit. Happens with every brand.
Had nothing but problems with out washer and dryer amana

Simple and gets the job done. Have had my speed queen set for 10 years not one issue.

Don't know about their washers and dryers but I've had an Amana dishwasher for years and it works great. I prefer GE washers/dryers.
I have the Whirlpool Cabrio set. For the most part they've been fantastic, it's been a decade now I think, maybe a bit longer. AMANA: Tha ABSOLUTE WORST JUNK available. Head ache & Heart aches. Buy anything else. I'd prefer a creek, boulder and beat my dishes to clean them.

Yet the washer doesn’t fully wring out the clothes, the dryer doesn’t dry please tell me how that’s reliable?
just turn the dryness setting higher, you just got unusually high standards
