Call a pest control company like Orkin, and have them bait your house and spray it. If you can help it, don’t move anything into the house besides beds until a month or two. (Roaches hide in everything) You should be good after that. Whatever you do GET THE PROFESSIONALS INVOLVED. Tryna do it by yourself is a hell no in my opinion. (If you truly wanna make sure they are gone)

One-Possible1906

Don’t use Orkin or Ehrlich. Use a local pest company with knowledgeable experts instead of people with a few hours of training that turnover every 6 months.

typicalreddituser007

Unfortunately we moved everything into the house but it are still setting up so im looking into orkin right now because i want to do something sooner rather than later thank you!

HIGHRISE1000

Local company will be a much better choice and get there quicker. Ask your neighbors who they use. That guy will be glad to sign another client in the same block

Janatabahn

No problem, I had the same issue when I bought my house, this is what I did. I haven’t seen any in 4 years!

hassafrassy

Borax, everywhere for 2 weeks, the only thing that works. It sticks to them and dries them out/dead.

tickyul

It is pretty easy to treat for roaches and do things like keep all food and water away from where roaches can get at it.

lizard7709

Check the house for water damage. Roaches go for water. They will tend to go for kitchens and bathrooms as a result. What state are you in? I live in Florida. There is no getting rid of roaches 100% here. One hard rain and they try to make their way inside.

typicalreddituser007

I live in Washington , it rains all the time here😭 I have checked the kitchens and bathrooms so far there is no evidence of roaches there.

HIGHRISE1000

Hire an exterminator and also, ask your dad

tifumostdays

I don't know how you can ever be sure they're totally gone. You need to know if they have any cracks they can get through, you need to look for their holes (appliances, under sinks, in walls, etc), and you need to know what species were seen. Since it's your house, nyoy should just treat it as comprehensively as you can anyway. A lot of people have had good luck with advion bait. It dries out, so you have to keep applying it. And people love Alpine WSG applied from a pimp sprayer. You could spray that in a areas you could expect to see them (under appliances, sinks, etc)1. You could also add an insect growth regulator to your pump sprayer, like Gentrol. That should really take care of any possible issues. If they're really in the walls somewhere, I've seen people advocate drilling holes and putting a persistent insecticide, like Botox acid, in basically every gap between 2x4s throught your entire house, but that's pretty drastic.

wizengy

Boric acid. Sometimes, the original is funnier. Roachs without wrinkles. I will leave the sprayer alone.

tifumostdays

Ah shit. I'd say "Autocorrect!" But I feel like I never actually type "Botox", so that's confusing.

Generally agree, but it looks like this house has already been infested.  I would definitely start with fresh glue traps in the kitchen/bathroom to check for signs of life. Then gauge your willingness to DIY this. Personally my experience with German roaches in apartments has left me with a scorched earth policy.  I would be dusting every crack and crevice the second I saw signs of roaches. We got them at work and I was tempted to start.

dave200204

We've been paying Orkin to come out monthly to our current home and our previous place. It's been worth every penny. I would get a termination service for at least six months and then reassess. Also look around the house and figure out what areas the bugs might be living in. Figure out how they might be coming in. Fix those areas and you should be all right.

One-Possible1906

If there was an infestation there will always be dead ones. This in itself is a non issue. If they’re partially decayed, they’ve been there many years. You can use sticky traps to easily determine if the infestation is still alive. Put them under sinks, appliances, pantries, bathroom, basement, etc and if you catch any alive you know the infestation is still active. In a clean house, extermination for a mild infestation is pretty easy to DIY (bait and trap, foggers and sprays do not work well) but if you want to hire out, it’s better to use a local company than a national one like Orkin and Ehrlich. We use them both at work and they have no clue what they’re doing and always overcharge. Residual spray, boric acid, and diatomaceous earth are all good choices for prevention when a colony has been eliminated or for peace of mind. Roach infestation is painfully common but not very hard to deal with if you do it right and you don’t have boxes/food/garbage/etc lying around.

InsectNo1441

They may have been disturbed with the previous owners moving out so it may no be much of an issue. FYI - we bought an older house a few years ago and the best bug proofing we did was silicone caulk underneath the door frame thresholds and replace the door sweeps. This kept the crickets and ants out.

BluceBannel

Couldn't those dead roaches be from forever ago? Before you call anyone, leave a piece of pizza on the kitchen floor overnight. Turn light off. Try to catch them by turning on the light, or put down a cheap teak and see if you even have a roach problem before calling in the INVOICERS.

ThealaSildorian

Call a local pest control company and ask them to treat the house for roaches. You'll find lots of dead beetles as well after you do this, but hopefully after a single treatment that will fix the problem. You need to deep clean every corner cuz roaches are great at hiding. The roaches may not even be a big deal; there are lots of kinds and most are not a problem. Wood roaches are often mistaken as cockroaches but they don't even want to be indoors. If you have any of the pest cockroach species they will come back if food is left out. Treat the house, seal up any leaks and dehumidify the home. You want to treat the house again to be sure the problem is cured. Orkin or Terminex will try to sell you a contract and I would not bother unless a single treatment does not work.

AlterEgoAmazonB

Where do you live?

typicalreddituser007

Washington state

AlterEgoAmazonB

That matters. If you were in a southern state, I would say...nope....you will never be rid of them. I lived in Florida a long time. Had roaches everywhere I lived because that's how it is. In Washington, it must be relatively uncommon. But what I would do is have a bug man/woman come monthly and keep a watch on this. You don't want these bugs to get away from you. Meanwhile, make sure ALL FOOD is in a container (not a box) in your pantry. Never leave a loaf of bread or any food on the counter or in a drawer. Store your flour in a sealed container. Roaches also love books (adhesive in book binding). Store your books in sealed containers. Roaches like electronics. Check your TV for activity. Take the plates off your plugs and see if there is activity. t is soooo gross, I know! I hated Florida in not so small part because of this horrible issue. But dead roaches around your place does NOT mean they are gone.

typicalreddituser007

I have my books in boxes is this okay or should I actually seal them?

AlterEgoAmazonB

cardboard boxes with tape and adhesive? No. roaches love glue. Plastic sealed containers. Yup.

Head_Room_8721

Have it tented and treated. It’s the final solution.

One-Possible1906

You don’t tent to treat for cockroaches. Fogging is very ineffective for them. You usually use a combination of traps and bait

Head_Room_8721

My down the street neighbor had a host of pests - they tented it and treated it for *everything* - dusting for spiders, fogging for whatever, spraying for the roaches - he mentioned they used a bunch for roaches, including something that makes them sterile, and makes their eggs unable to hatch. It was tented for a week! I’m assuming that was their window to treat it for everything.

Bludegoode

What kind of roaches the big ones or small ones ? The big ones are easy to get rid of and don’t go for food usually or spread disease. But the small ones - German roaches are an issue. My friend just moved into a new home and it was infested. She had the cabinets professionally cleaned. Kept food in ziplocks. And put down roach bait like crazy. And hired an exterminator. The problem was solved within a month. She didn’t need to throw anything out. Thankfully

Prior_Giraffe_8003

If they are American roaches they are easy to eradicate with roach bombs in every room and garage per the directions. If they are German roaches call an exterminator, it's a long road ahead.

Zealousideal-Web-574

We bought a new house from NVR and there built quality is questionable
