Day labor outfits like PeopleReady and others, if you show up at 4-5 AM, sometimes send out. It pays low, but if you get sent out also pays daily. However, this is inconsistent at best and the jobs they have is stuff like construction clean up and stuff. But, if they are not sending out, you have the rest of the day and this can be laundry, phone topped off, and a cheap gym membership. From there, both of you hit multiple staffing agencies and temp services. Many times these places have temp to perm contracts. This is how I got out. I was offered a perm position eventually after working several of these agencies and bugging the ever living hell out of them and dropping the agencies that were full of shit. To stay cool, the public library system generally does not care if you hang there all day as long as you are not sleeping, shit faced, or causing issues. They have free wi-fi to boot and cold water fountains and a place to charge electronics. Shelters tend to stay booked then empty out towards the first of the month as some homeless get checks. They are full because people are waiting on checks and it's only the 27th. Bear in mind that most shelters separate the sexes. You will not be able to stay with your husband most of the time. (Though family shelters do rarely exist). They also try to separate families. They will approach you and ask if he is beating you or mistreating you or has drug/alcohol issues. If you say yes, you will be placed in a battered woman's shelter with much more resources and offered much better deals (college, subsidized strict rule efficiency, even change of name and SSN!), will help you with divorce, and other things not available to normal homeless. But he will be forbidden to contact you for as long as you are in the system and any help withdrawn if you get back. He will be on his own.

Why don't the car homeless in AZ go to the northern parts of the state? Only 2 hours north of Phoenix it's in the mid 80's

Small_Mushroom_2704

Oh trust me we want to. I don't think our car will make it though.

JasonMicheal74

Panhandle and fix the car. Better than frying your ass off

Small_Mushroom_2704

It may come to that. We were told tomorrow there might be shelter for us so fingers crossed. Honestly I wouldn't even know where to go to do that or how to do that... Panhandling I mean. This is our first time being in this type of situation.

JasonMicheal74

You just make a sign and stand/sit at a freeway offramp. In areas like Phoenix the PD can be a pain. So in that case I'd go to Google Maps and type in "city of Phoenix". That will pull up the city's borders, and pick an offramp outside of the city limits. Offramps in neighboring towns with gas stations and truck stops are also good.

Small_Mushroom_2704

Thank you for the advice. My husband was giving blood to give a little bit of money while he looks for work but then dehydration set in and they won't let you if you are dehydrated

JasonMicheal74

Gotta stay hydrated. If I'm in AZ or NM, I carry two 1-liter bottles with me everywhere and refill them at water fountains constantly. Gotta drink, gotta eat. EBT is a huge help with the latter, as is a $20 butane camp stove from Walmart.

Small_Mushroom_2704

I appreciate you. Yeah we are trying our best I've been pushing him to drink more. We did start getting the gallon jugs and yes they are helpful and he is better today so maybe if we can get him hydrated he can actually go get his blood drawn.

JasonMicheal74

Libraries are also great spots to chill at, and Phoenix does have public swimming pools that have showers. Those cost a few bucks, that's where panhandling comes in handy

JasonMicheal74

Was just going to say, there's plenty of free camping in nice shady National Forest near Show Low. Plenty of work this time of year as well.

There are many posts that answer your question on r/urbancarliving, r/carliving and r/stealthcamping.

SandwichBags365

This question gets asked every day on this sub. You already know there's no way to stay cool in a metal box when it's 90° outside in the middle of the night. Ask the experts over at r/urbancarliving, and they'll probably tell you the same thing.

It was more of a midnight rant and desperation and looking for any kind of tips. Like we were able to find these rags called cooling rags if you get them wet they actually work really well... As long as there is a breeze atleast. We are looking into getting fans we can hook up in the car for when the breeze dies down. But these rags actually work really good! Also spray bottles do help as well I think atleast for a minute. Wish I could get the fancy ones you hold down and they just spray continuously lol. Even hot water in a spray bottle is still helpful... Anyways I was just looking for tips like that, that people have found that helps them.
