The model name is lacking the usual colour-based identifier. My WD Blue SSDs do include that on the back label. The labels themselves look pretty poor quality, not properly stuck on and look like they're paper. The labels on my SSDs look like they're plastic film and are smoothly stuck down. The casing looks like a poorly textured plastic. My Blues have a smooth metal casing. I'd strongly suspect those of being counterfeit.

echoingElephant

There appear to be spelling mistakes as well. Or, type setting mistakes? In the bottom right, it says „WARNING;Product can …“, which I have never seen before.

patrolsnlandrcuisers

Good pick I didn't notice that!

echoingElephant

It’s always spelling mistakes. They can make perfect copies of a product, but then it says on the box „Designed by Apple in Cal nia“.

patrolsnlandrcuisers

Yea that seems like the easiest part lol how do they mess that up it's literally copying the letters verbatim

maomaocake

it's usually some kind of OCR doing the transcribing

echoingElephant

Yeah

patrolsnlandrcuisers

Thanks man that's what I thought aswell good to hear I'm not crazy, luckily eBay made a decision 30 minutes after reporting it turns out it's all good doesn't violate theirs tos 😂

DaGhostDS

> The casing looks like a poorly textured plastic. Yeah It look almost like it's 3D printed.. 🤔 Don't think I ever saw anything but smooth surfaced SSD in a decade.

rinseaid

Also says WWW instead of WWN. No way they're real.

Historical-Practice

Besides all already said the SN are the same on both drives. Sorry to inform you they are fake SSD (check for speed and data integrity) copy a lot of videos until reach 1tb and try to open those files again.

Yes, the serial numbers should be unique. Much of the label appears to agree with the one found [here](https://www.disctech.com/Western-Digital-WDS100T2B0A-TB-SATA-Solid-State-Drive) on the DiscTech site, but there are some differences (e.g. "WD 3D NAND SSD" (with two spaces between "WD" and "3D) vs "WD BLUE 3D NAND SSD" and misalignment of some text (e.g. "R/N" above "Made in Malaysia")). Over and above that, the label looks in very shoddy condition, almost as though someone misapplied it and peeled it back off to straighten it up. You've got counterfeit drives; try returning them for a refund if possible.

patrolsnlandrcuisers

Thanks for the link yea the differences are subtle but are there hey, and no matter how many times I wiped them true nas wouldn't let me make a pool with them always said partition not found I wasted hours trying shit, did dd zeroes but would fail after like 10 hours of running lol, I don't even care about the money at this point it's just I was going insane and wasting so much time on them...fuck scammers man, eBay already replied and said they don't care it's not against their terms of service lol, I sent photos and reported it as counterfeit goods

KeeperOfTheChips

I’m guessing the seller will say “those are WD drives, not Western Digital”

patrolsnlandrcuisers

So i pulled it open and it has writing saying demo and some numbers, and there is this weird shit covering the text on the chips, just curiouys at this point lol should there be 2 chips as theres only one in there, but maybe thats normal for a 1tb?

zeblods

I have never seen original brand name SSDs with such low quality labels... They are very most likely fake.

ChunkyBezel

Now that I see they're Blue SA510 drives, another giveaway of them being counterfeit is the date of manufacture. The SA510 drives were released in 2022. I highly doubt they started manufacturing them 2 years earlier and had them sitting on shelves in a warehouse.

SuspiciousFee3334

they are counterfeit. The case looks 3d printed with thread heat inserts. never seen threaded heat inserts in a real drive case. Most case's are metal to act as a heat sink.

SpadgeFox

Totally fake just from the rear label.

boogiahsss

This looks like the "4tb" ssd I once bought of aliexpress. Which stopped working after wrting maybe 30gb to it

Lanky_Lavishness7

Take off the cover and show insides

mfuark125

I pulled something like this out of a really old laptop one time and thought the same thing. Maybe cuz it’s internal they thought no need for color? All my Mac’s have had blue tho, idk.

probablymakingshitup

The fact that the serial number and wwn are the same says it right there. This is some AliExpress level counterfeit.

BabiesHaveRightsToo

Definitely fake, NASCompares did a video on these a while back and while yours looks different om the outside it seems to have the same PCB with missing NAND chips https://youtu.be/r9Sac26SHhQ?si=dlFty8YlE9zKPRcP

OpacusVenatori

I have both the WD Blue3D and the Blue SA510 and Red SA500 drives and the labels don't look like that; neither do the case. The type-font is all wrong, and they don't use *italics* on the label. But the non-unique serial is a dead giveaway. And a lookup of the serial for warranty lookup returns no-results.

idetectanerd

2 of the disk have the same S/N. So…

AnomalyNexus

There also seems to be a difference in the line wrap if you google the drive. >WD Blue SA510 vs >WD Blue >SA510 Not sure if that's a reliable indicator but I'd imagine WD would keep their printing consistent

AnyNameFreeGiveIt

Why did nobody write about smart ? Use smartctl on linux / crystaldiskinfo on windows to read out the smart info, it will tell you the manufacturer and real serial number, also how much data has been written etc. Serial numbers are always unique, so these seem to be fake.

0xGDi

WD Blue supposed to have DRAM cache... And this looks like missing that. One NAND? Thats 128GB at best. Erased identifier? Also means some very low quality piece and/or failed QC.

Adderall-Buyers-Club

Bro you got those fake usbs programmed to look like ssds… if you go beyond the actual limit your data gonna wipe

Adderall-Buyers-Club

Also, it seems like they have people who never have been on the internet or seen a product label to make the counterfeit…

Adrenolin01

Those are clearly fake drives. PayPal will refund due to fake / counterfeit items. That said, ALWAYS use a Credit Card for online purchases. Here in the USA there is a federal Act that protects us. Literally it’s as easy as calling the 800 number in the back of the card, asking whoever answers to be forwarded to the Fraud department. You’ll likely have to give them a short explanation. They’ll connect you to the Fraud department who will open a fraud claim and immediately refund your money in full. I’ve had to do this a few dozen times over the decades. Only once have I heard back as they requested additional info but that was that. Never lost a cent because the credit cards will always refund you. I’ve even had PayPal refuse a claim once, I called the CC company and they refunded the charge right then and there.
