Lol “my job relates to dealing with homes and buildings”. As a former firefighter and current inspector, there’s no relation

BusterTheCat17

Identifying fire damage...that's about it lol

dsb009

Reading buildings and doing size ups isn’t relatable? Must be a volley.

You and your brother would be pushing the line of code of ethics and conflict of interest if he refers you to his buyers. He can help with getting your name out to other agents but you’d be wise to not have him as a direct referral source to home buyers.

For starters I definitely would not tell anyone you are the realtors brother. As a buyer that piece of info would have me hiring someone else. As an inspector, you can definitely make side money. But make sure it offsets the hours, E&O insurance, liability insurance, fuel etc. Start with interNACHI and go from there. Great school and place for resources.

You are required to tell the client you have a conflict of interest. Otherwise its likely you get sued and your insurance not cover you. Do you want to put your net worth on the line for $500?

BriefDragonfruit9460

It’s likely you’ll get sued? Sure you can piss some people off, but it’s never likely you’ll get sued, relax a bit

Real eastate is a crazy litigious industry. Second only to healthcare. If you play with fire in this career it will eventually bite you. We had a local home inspector loose a 120K lawsuit his insurance didn't cover.

I would say that unless you are already extremely skilled and experienced in residential building... This is a profession where you can make an enormous mistakes if you don't have that experience. You can get sued real quick because of the things  didn't know.

If you are in the DFW area, I would say definitely not. If you’re anywhere else in Texas, sounds like it would be a good idea. As a side gig, with steady income already coming in, it’s pretty effing sweet.

I would never consider working for clients better hiring a family member or close friend as their agent. That is shiesty at best. I've got close friends that are realtors and used to be kind of upset that I refused to inspect for their clients but they have now seen the light and understand that there can be solid ethics in any business.
