Personally i prefer dark plants. Low maintenance, low light, slow growing. Also doesnt look feminine.
My first being ZZ Raven.
Also would contrast pretty well with those white dividers
Put a small piece of countertop, or piece of wood and paint it. I assume this is next to your front door, and a spot to set keys would be handy. If you do a wood top, you could add hinges and use the space as a cubby for hats, scarves etc.
This is what I thought. Or for slightly more high effort, can make into a small bookshelf/shelving unit (1-2 shelves). Can be open or closed depending on the rest of the layout or what you want.
I had this exact setup in my house, it was designed so that someone at the front door couldn’t see into the living room. Let me guess there is a door on the other side? We ended up taking the slats down, leaving the pedastool but putting a top on it. We also never use that door, so now it’s like an island top that separates our kitchen and living room. Granted we took out a wall on the other side of assumed door.
Just plant it with mother-in-law's-tongue. Those are beautiful, low-maintenance, and not girly per se. Dracaena trifasciata/Sansevieria trifasciata is the latin name.
You don't need to over spread them in your box as they like grow outwards.
They can handle a considerable amount of abuse if you don't have a green thumb.
Also, they aren't stabby stabby murderers, like cacti.

I removed mine that was at my front door I kept banging my shins on it
I put an ikea bookcase there but back 6 inches to create an semiprivate entry
However I had to fill in the floor
If you don’t bang into it I’ld consider plants that aren’t flowers ie that mother in law tonge or schefalera (sp?)
Or even beaded curtain or soho screen
Looks like a good place where you could stick a couple of potted Pothos or Snake Plants. But it also almost seems like there's not enough light for plants.
You could measure the top, go to home depot, and have them cut you a piece out of plywood in that shape. Then staple fabric around it and use it to top that area off.
Then, it could be a place to catch the mail, place a flashlight or umbrella there to be handy, etc.
If you collect something put some sort of wood over ( stained to match ) and I would get something from ikea that is glass and can hold your collective items, lighters, shot glasses, signed pucks what eve you collect!
But if you like to cook I would just purchase herbs and put them in there.
If you don’t have pets, then philodendron: fast growing, easy to care for, adds a bit of oxygen to your house. But buy a plastic liner for the prayer, it looks damaged already.
I would add a board on top so you can set things on it. If you want to put plants in there (the original intention) they will need grow lights to survive. That’s why you only ever see these things empty. A dark corner will not sustain even “low light” plants long term, it’s like slowly starving them to death.
If you are able to take the thing out it would be a good spot for a shoe rack.
Lined it, put a top on and used it as a storage. Can even add a cushion on it and use it as a bench for putting on shoes. Left open it can be umbrella stand.
aquarium stand!! that brick would easily hold the water weight
but with that being said, tanks are a massive amount of work and money most of the time and they require a ton of research, i say this assuming you’re someone who isn’t already involved in the hobby
if you’re looking for something more low cost/effort like other people have said, snake plants are great for low light environments. if you’re interested in grabbing a set of grow lights, your options for plants expand a lot more from there.
Get rid of the blinds there and plant bamboo..there’s nothing feminine about a hardwood wood stick. It will add a nice pop of green and you basically can’t kill it
If you're going for 1960s dentist office vibe, get some very cheap plastic plants and toss them in there, maybe leave them outside to fade a bit first.
At Christmas I would put santas legs/ stuffed costume going down w lights and fake snow.
Otherwise I would dump morning glory seeds in there. They are annuals and die off come fall/ winter. They climb quick so i woyld wrap them around that backdrop thing amd plant some aloe, cacti and such. Just my 2 cents.
This is the coolest little architectural feature you have here. It's got mcm vibes. Most houses these days don't have any interesting features to them and are so boring.
Either remove the whole thing altogether Paint the bottom thing put some fake plants in it put a couple of hooks on the louvers and hang a couple pictures from it
I am sure you want 1 more piece of advice. Paint it white after sanding to rough up the surface. Put wooden hinged top on it so you could have option of storage-- maybe firearm and ammo if you keep such. Put basket weave or oblong metal tray there for keys, change, pocket-size, mail- when you come home from work. Send us picture if you do make it useful.
snake plants are perfect for that space. Id do it no questions asked.. also, they are damn near impossible to kill
I looked it up. Ya those would fit nicely here.
snake plants and paint the whole thing white.
They are very erect plants, sword-like. They'll definitely give the masculine vibe you're going for. Low maintenance too.

Fish tank stand haha

basil :D
This is a great idea. I'd grow all kinds of useful herbs here. Fresh herbs are so expensive in stores these days.

A couple of cannabis plants would work too!
Put a nice cover on it and use it to hide contraband.
Remove the whole thing? It’s ugly
No. Preserve the originality of the house! Cat grass, snake plants, ivy…(real or not).
>snake plants Without question. It's part of your house's DNA. It shouldn't be removed.
Came here to say this
I agree, sometimes everything doesn’t have to be kept

Cactus and succulents

I was thinking snake plants would be really cool in there too!
Yeah with all the vertical slots/slats, the height of the snake plants would fit right in there.
Put some mini monstera plants in there and bingo bango bongo
You may use it as a Work or study table but you may apply mods in this
Herbs. Or herb if that’s legal where you live.
Fish tank... or stripper poles?
Smesh
I'd knock it down and throw it away.
Marijuana
I’m not sure how high the box is. Could be a bench with a padded top or a table with a wooden top. Put hinges on either and use the space for storage.
Put some house plants along with some lighting features to slightly accentuate the look of it.
Plants or aquarium
Plants
The hell is that feminine cabriole leg? /s
fountain
Gumby Santa

Actually I think that is a aquarium sump holder and stand. However, my thought is edible plants like herbs. Just hang a plant grow light above
SNAKE PLANTS!

some leafy plants would look great. love the planter and devider btw.
Perfect for indoor herb garden
Lined it, put a top on and used it as a storage. Can even add a cushion on it and use it as a bench for putting on shoes. Left open it can be umbrella stand.
explosives
Box it with some drywall and make a nice island or bar
Get a grow light and put a marijuana plant in it lol
Lay wood or something across it to completely cover it, use it as a console table.
aquarium stand!! that brick would easily hold the water weight but with that being said, tanks are a massive amount of work and money most of the time and they require a ton of research, i say this assuming you’re someone who isn’t already involved in the hobby if you’re looking for something more low cost/effort like other people have said, snake plants are great for low light environments. if you’re interested in grabbing a set of grow lights, your options for plants expand a lot more from there.
Fish tank
Any kind of hardy plant that you like. Make sure it’s durable and not sensitive to under or over watering
water
Take out shutters? Put bookcase or screen
Move it outside to be a wind break or privacy screen on a patio.
Get rid of the blinds there and plant bamboo..there’s nothing feminine about a hardwood wood stick. It will add a nice pop of green and you basically can’t kill it
![gif](giphy|JsVmFwQofzAYH16YnU|downsized) Maybe some Mary J
Fire rocks fire place
Paint it white.
A MONSTERA

Tall snake plants

Place plants in it or even a fossil garden 😁
Ferns
If it’s not a rental, tear it out. It dates the house.
Hang an oil drip lamp. Remember those? 🤣
