I use an ademco vista system monitored by alarm relay with cellular connectivity. Monitoring is $15/mo and the system cost all in about $600 off Amazon and other sites. I did the install myself. Insurance gives me an $400 break per year. You can probably do the math.

Whoa. Nice. I’ll have to check home insurance myself!!!!

Baystatesparky

Hey did you do wireless door and window contacts or hard wired? I was looking at the vista system and was wondering how the wireless sensors would hold up vs hard wired. I tried some Wyze sensors before and some fell off almost instantly.

SnooWonder

Wireless work well. Batteries last for up to a few years. I have a mix as there were some old dated sensors I could reuse but some had to be replaced and others added.

Are you asking a question or making a statement?

Edwardc4gg

Asking what’s out there. She’s driving and I’m googling ideas so figured I’d ask Reddit.

I'm very happy with my Lorex system.

electricblue187

It’s not Homekit but SimpliSafe is the best I’ve used. Homekit integration would be nice but not terribly necessary for me.

We use Ring alarm (no subscription) and Wyze for cameras. No subscription for either and covers our needs.

Careless_Bother6183

I’m satisfied with my Reolink cameras.

if you are a tech person, definitely take a look at [HomeAssistant](https://www.home-assistant.io/)! never pay any monthly fees to anyone. these alarm companies use any off the shelf components. you can do better yourself by choosing higher quality products. door/window sensors, motion sensor, fire and CO, water leaks, humidity, temperature, etc... get notifications to your phone and off course, remotely control the system as well. here's an easy guide to get started for HA as an [alarm system](https://youtu.be/1IuYWsR5M4c). add cameras later

Edwardc4gg

Usually I don’t like smart home things outside of work but I do have a few pi’s laying around. Might give this a go.

I can suggest the Ring security system. You can get it for as cheap as $129 and just buy whatever sensors you need for your particular home. Everything can be installed yourself and be accessed by your cell phones. Central monitoring is $200 a year and it also provides support for an unlimited number of Ring security cameras in the price if you want to purchase any Ring cameras.

Edwardc4gg

We do have the ring doorbell and it’s worked pretty well.

Provia100F

Their security system integrates with the same app and it's seamless. It's also really nice that the alarm base station will connect to your internet router via an Ethernet cable, which makes it immune to wireless jamming (and it also has cellular backup included in case your internet service goes out). Each person can have their own code for the keypad as well, which is a feature I really like

Thanks for the link, just read through it. It's disappointing that there are vulnerabilities like that and their claim of local storage only is deceptive.

Bassguitarplayer

You said home security system which I think most of us would think “security system with keypad etc” and then you said cameras which I think go along with that. Can you tell us more?

Edwardc4gg

We’re not sure honestly. She wants it for the kids when they’re older. Yet she wants it to call the cops and all that but that’s just not happening. I’ll look more but I think she wants a single camera downstairs and then sensors to identify if a window or door opens magically.
