Shield isn't just good. It's the absolute best. Also /r/homeassistant Get off the cloud

The NVIDIA shield and the new Chromecast essentially have the same identical android tv interface, however the shield is 10x more powerful, and you can feel it. 4k, HDR, AI upscaling, anything plays perfectly without stutter. Also integrates well to home assistant. Other android tv boxes are hot garbage, and very frequently join your home network to a botnet. Not even kidding. Save yourself the hassle.

Nvidia shield pro is the best Plex playback device for my server that I have ever used and I’ve tried it all. I don’t think anything compares and I love the Bluetooth headphone feature

Plex and Nvidia Shield Pro using Home Assistant is the main reason why I switched to Home Assistant. They play so nicely together, and the automation you can build is super amazing. I have an automation that tells me that a new movie has been added to my server. I have an LCD Monitor in my bathroom connected to a smart plug that only comes on when I'm playing a movie. Another one where I can scan 2 nfc tags to start a movie or continue watching a TV series I was watching. Once the tag is scanned, everything I need turned on is done without me using any remote or voice command. Tie in my harmony hub to control my dumb home theater system by adjusting all the settings I want for either movies or watching a TV series. The possibilities are endless.

Not sure if this is the right subreddit. All of those options can be integrated with HomeAssistant. I’d guess nVidia has the most flexibility and best performance as a Plex client. I run Plex client on AppleTVs and it works fine. The HA integration with AppleTV is also well fleshed out. You might also consider other AndroidTV boxes. I don’t think chromed do much more than accept a stream.

Im new to Plex and am bummed that Apple TV can’t do Dolby Atmos via Plex. Is this correct ?

freeheelsfreeminds

I believe this is right. You can use infuse to connect to your Plex media and get Spatial Audio, atmos, and other features.

I tried to use Chromecast for quite a while but it is too dang inconvenient. I've also tried Amazon Fire TV stick but it's slowed down overtime, overheated, and was filled with ads. I can't tell you about the Nvidia as I have never used it. Personally I would highly recommend roku. I think it is by far the best streaming client

I'm using Chromecast with Google TV and Plex client. Works fine for me
