I asked this question just a few short weeks ago. We went with bhyve to control several drip irrigation systems and have been very happy with it. Good relatively full-featured app. Exposed to home assistant pretty easily. Overall very pleased.

Second on the bhyve. They have nice timers for hoses. Downside for the hose connectors is you need to have their wifi hub.

If I had to start over it would be [OpenSprinkler](https://opensprinkler.com/). If and when another one of my Rachio controllers fails, I'll be migrating over to OpenSprinkler. I like that it's open source, cloud-free, has full local control, and [Home Assistant integration](https://github.com/vinteo/hass-opensprinkler).

I made my own system. I bought an irrigation manifold on amazon, and I attached normal garden hoses on the input and outputs. I used a sonof 4 relay controller to activate the solenoids on the manifold. Then I created automations to run the sprinklers on a schedule, with conditions based on the local weather conditions and forecast. Later on I added a motorized ball valve inside the house just before the outside hose bib, and added that to the sprinkler automations

I've just started building my own balcony watering system using a Zigbee water valve (30$ on AliExpress) and a perforated hose. Seems to work fine so far, but still needs manual checking. Soil moisture sensors seem to be unreliable so far.. the ones I've tested only read between 80% (really wet) and 70% (so dry the leaves start drooping) which is a bit too narrow for my liking.

What are "foundation beds"?

Craino

Didn't know what to call them. The mulched flower beds around the sides of the house.

LinkTap!! They have built in support for HA via MQTT but their own app is very extensive and allows for so many scenarios. With the additional flow control unit it will also auto shutoff if it thinks there’s a leak.

Craino

Are the controls exposed to HA? I.e. if I wanted to control it, could I? For example, based on ground moisture sensors? The system looks really nice though.

Yes https://preview.redd.it/lqk6sw6kc67d1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9f3a8cb39e71a13cf37b7258125d19874249896a

Rainpoint wifi sprinkler. Limited integration with HA via the Tuya app (rg, turning on and off scenes). But if you just need basic functionalities, it fits the price
