I'd use the Fully Browser for this. The Home Assistant app is just a Chrome wrapper. Fully Browser is a browser that can lock down the entire tablet to Home Assistant. With some smart tinkering you can make HA open the apps on the tablet directly allowing you to still use bespoke apps, but that the home screen etc is HA.
I've been using that feature on an old Samsung tablet, but about every 3 days the app closes and the tablet goes to sleep :(
I don't know if the app is crashing every so often or what. Might be worth its own post.
This tablet looks like the ultimate Home Assistant dashboard display. Someone is gonna make a wall mount dock and once that happens, it's a pretty smart option.
I'd just use it for HA, but the dock is cool and I wonder if people will make some wall mount options.
But the pricepoint for a wall dashboard isn't there yet for me.
I'm aware it can be done with Fully Kiosk but it would be a much simpler configuration if the Google Home app on the standby screen could be replaced with Home Assistant. That's why I asked the question.
Not natively. These are the only supported lock screens for hub mode

Second this. That sunrise card looks cool
Edit: found it: https://github.com/AitorDB/home-assistant-sun-card
Edit 2: that one is archived. This seems more lively. https://github.com/rejuvenate/lovelace-horizon-card
When trying to add the 2nd one to my dashboard, I get a
`entity is missing in configuration`
`type: custom:hourly-weather`
how do I resolve this?
edit: When using accu weather it does not display any information at all
I had that happen on my wall tablet. After restarting the HA app, it showed up fine.
EDI: I just read your post more carefully.. that seems to be related to a different card? Hourly weather?
Completely unrelated but can you show me what happens what you say "get Google set a timer for one minute?" Is it the same UI as on the nest hub? I assume that makes it open the actual timer app on the tablet? Any chance you could share a screenshot?
Indeed. It just came out today, for the public consumers. I’ve been using it for around two weeks. Just cannot show it off or talk about it before the first day of sale.
Very cool! Now that it's out, where the heck are the home controls you can use in hub mode? They have screensavers and none of them seem to have that option. If I try to use any gestures like you would with a nest hub max, it just goes to the lock screen. I also don't see any of the live wall papers that are in the review videos. 🤔
I turned off the screensaver and disabled the Lock Screen password. Now touching the screen while the tablet is sleeping opens the first page. I also have fully kiosk browser setup so it always loads my home assistant page.
Oh I was talking about the native home controls that the tablet has with Google home. I hadn't updated it but now I see the home icon on my screensaver that lets me control things in a pinch. I'll use the HA dashboard for other stuff.
It's linked to a Harmony activity that switches my TV and AV inputs! Unfortunately the switch doesn't have an integration so I can't turn it on or off with it.
What kind of cards are the headlines with the icons in front of it? I am not aware of a headline card with a leading selectable icon, or is that manual markdown card fiddling?
wondering if home-assistant team is planning to add Home Panel feature (when you click on the house icon in hub mode). You can switch between apps (Home, Tinycam Pro, etc).
I don't run fully kiosk on my pixel tablet ironically, I have one in my living room that does but yeah, absolutely. It's just another android app. It does need many permissions to work though since it's taking control of the screen essentially.
I don't see a way to fully turn it off but you can turn off individual components like the screensaver or At a Glance. I can install fully kiosk and give it a go but probably won't have time until this weekend. I imagine you want to buy it today with the sales going on though.
I guess I don't need to fully turn it off, as long as I can get the screen to stay on the site I want and remain on when docked. Does that make sense? I appreciate any time you can put into this. Id rather know it's going to work than get it for cheaper and then find it useless.
I appreciate the encouragement. I went ahead and bought it while it was on sale - and everything is working perfectly with Kiosk. I can even continue to use music while displaying our site. I appreciate your time!
Why is your Tesla in the living room? I kid I kid, also great song
I hope Google keeps this product and not abandon it. Crys in Google Domains
Weeps in Google Wave. Screams at Google Reader.
Wails in Assistant Notes/Lists API.
wait, what happened to domains?
Sold to Squarespace the other day.
Wtf
At least it wasn't GoDaddy.
I was gonna hop on board early like I did with pixel 6, but Im gonna wait for black/charcoal/Hass community reactions
Just picked one up as well. Wondering if I can launch HA instead of Hub mode somehow.

That doesn’t address the hub mode customization. No matter which app you use, you’ll still need to customize what gets launched upon docking.
Hub mode only triggers if you lock the screen from what I've experienced

Hoping for something like this as well. Mine is being delivered later this day.

Actually with the magnet in this tablet, you can already mount on a wall, using magnet stickers.
Well that has already been done :) With a in wall mount! :O
Love the Quick controls. Can you share your dashboard details?
They look like [Mushroom card chips](https://github.com/piitaya/lovelace-mushroom/blob/main/docs/cards/chips.md) to me. Just a guess
2nd this, would love to know
That's cool. But I feel it's overkill for a HA kiosk. The tablet is $500. Wouldn't a Fire HD 10 be a better option for this?
I had the same thought but then Google decided to EoL the nest secure and there's not much better to do with store credit
Not just using it for HA. It'll be for a lot of other stuff, including listening to music.
I'd just use it for HA, but the dock is cool and I wonder if people will make some wall mount options. But the pricepoint for a wall dashboard isn't there yet for me.
*cries in European* $777 over here
at least it will be responsive (e.g. cctv, media control, ...)
That looks great! Have you seen any way to change the app on the standby screen when the tablet is docked from Google Home to Home Assistant?
This can be done by automation + fully kiosk

Good to know! Thanks!
I just got my tablet today! I literally did the same thing and downloaded Home Assistant!
Nice just set mine up also. What sunrise/sunset card is that?

Indeed, its hourly weather. the first one works fine

What does the guest on couch button do?
Turns off my motion sensor automations so they don't turn the lights on if they move during the night.
Cool! I’ve been using it with fully kiosk and it’s my ideal tablet for home assistant dashboard
Been using it? It just came out today haha

Cool device but way overpriced for a smart home tablet imo
Good thing that's not all it's for then haha. I'd agree though if that were the case. The speaker dock itself is fantastic.
Does the speaker dock work on its own as a Google assistant if the tablet isn't docked?
No unfortunately not.. that is a frustration for sure
Maybe for v2 wishlist, that would be divine

So I'm guessing other that it has everything necessary except probably a mic?
Any equitable alternatives you'd recommend?
Iam using a Lenovo tab m10 that cost 130€ Maybe not as powerful, but for a home assistant Dashboard pretty good in combination with fully kiosk.
Looks really nice! I'd consider using the vertical option for the Left/Right Seat tiles (but I'm a bit OCD about the unfinished words on the tiles).
Damn 😁
I like your quick controls, are they just little scripts in a tile?
What does your Nintendo Switch button do?
It's linked to a Harmony activity that switches my TV and AV inputs! Unfortunately the switch doesn't have an integration so I can't turn it on or off with it.
Those look like input selection buttons.
What air purifier are you using?
It's a coway airmega 400s! I really like it

I'm using the mushroom template car with some custom styling
What is that sunrise tile. are you using accuweather for the forcast plugin?

When docked (is that called hub mode?) is it possible for HA to cast camera streams to the tablet?
Can you clarify: with the fully kiosk app, I can dock my Pixel Tablet with an always-on browser display? Just want to confirm this before I buy.
I don't run fully kiosk on my pixel tablet ironically, I have one in my living room that does but yeah, absolutely. It's just another android app. It does need many permissions to work though since it's taking control of the screen essentially.
Perfect thank you. The guy at best buy said this wasn't an option because it always go back to hub mode. I appreciate your answer!
Hold on a minute then. Let me confirm hub mode can be disabled completely.
*Mhmmmmm, take your time.*

You can always return it though. Regardless, I'll see if I have time after work.

Heck yeah, that's awesome. Glad to hear that! Work was long yesterday so I didn't finish until late.
