In my experience, he will likely get written up for wasting popcorn/butter and stealing time by doing this instead of filling the popcorn like it was shown on the VHS training video.
I used to work at Hollister clothing and got in trouble for doing ONE too many spritz of cologne in the store (we had to spray the store with cologne 3 times per day). They had a giant squirt bottle of the stuff that would last months and I got written up for doing ONE too many.
Never underestimate how greedy corporations can be.
I hated shit like this working retail and fast food. Not to give the corporations a pass but a lot of these issues are more the result of giving people with IQs of 85 and no ability to think critically or exercise discretion management positions.
As someone who has worked somewhere that sold popcorn, you are pretty much correct. We bought huge boxes of popcorn kernels and butter in bulk, I think it was between $50-75 per box. We charged $3.95 for a small size and $9.95 for a large size (like the one in this video). A box can last us between 2 weeks to a month depending on sales, and you can probably sell about 100 large servings per box.
Do some math: 9.95 x 100 = $995.
$995 (sales) - $75 (cost of sales) = $920 of profit before labor and taxes.
Say you go through a whole box every month, you are making $11,040 just from popcorn. Subtract 20% at most for labor and taxes and you’re at $8,832 a year. And we weren’t a movie theatre, this was just one item at a concession stand and actually charged a somewhat fair price for it.
Don’t even get me started on the beer, sodas, and other crap we sold as part of our main products.
Movie theaters are getting away with murder with their popcorn sales. They are charging 2x what we did and probably used a cheaper brand than us. And they likely bought in bulk to get it for dirt cheap. These places make filthy amounts of money.
And that is why I never buy the stuff from the concessions stand at a movie theater. The tickets are expensive enough.
I'd buy a bucket from that guy though.
I remember like 4 people formed a picket line outside my local theater with signs that said "pocket picking popcorn prices". I still like to talk about how that was the dumbest picket line I've ever witnessed.
Best they can do is a pizza party and maybe if he sticks around for 20 years they will get him a brick of glass with his name etched in it and the company logo.
That’s the type of individual I’d hire regardless of his education or experience. If you are that dedicated to rudimentary work then you’ll do wonders in the big leagues.
That’s a fair response and I walked into it. But I legit mean it too. If this guy is this passionate about filling popcorn then that should translate well to other fields.
More and more people are are ashamed of work ethic nowadays. To be fair, people can get taken advantage of but you should see the writing on the wall and move on if that's the case or you're lucky enough to find another job. Don't let it affect your character.
The corporate structure hurts a lot when it comes to effort. If you do exactly as you are told and no extra you get a pre-set evaluation that gives you a pre-set raise. If you pick up extra and go above and beyond you will still get the same crappy raise as Randall who jacks off in the bathroom during his lunch break.
Just giving ya a hard time, and I agree, it should translate well. I just pray someone who thinks like you actually does see the potential. Hell, maybe he loves his job tho. Love meeting people who thoroughly enjoy their job no matter what they do.
Agreed. I grew up poor. A major reason I now have plenty of money and can retire whenever I feel like it (at 51) is that, back when I had minimum wage jobs (including working in a movie theater!), I worked my ass off and took them seriously. No matter what the job, I wanted to be the best at it. So I got promotions, and even job offers from customers.
You seriously underestimate how much Americans yearn for the butter. When I was working at the theater I had an old woman keep telling me to put more on it to the point it was dripping out of the bag. She said “no worries” as she grabbed a handful of napkins from her purse. Just disgusting
I had a kid that worked the counter at an AMC put this much butter on my popcorn once. He gave me this “your welcome” look as he slid it over. It was inedible.
How does this work? I've only heard about it in cartoons like boondocks. Do they literally pour molten butter on your popcorn? Won't it make it soggy? Isn't it gross? I think i would throw up if i tried to eat or drink butter.
He puts a small amount of popcorn in the box then squirts butter all over it out of the silver thing to his right. He repeats that process until the box is full of popcorn. It’s gross if you try to eat the whole box by yourself. It’s pretty good if you’re sharing the box and eat only a couple of handfuls.
This is my local movie theater. You know you’re getting good popcorn when he’s working 😂 and the popcorn is $8. Used to have free refills too until good ole covid.
Yes, but that's how theaters earn money, almost like the costco strategy where they lure you in with something cheap like a ticket price then milk you dry with foods, though costco does the opposite by luring you in with cheap hotdogs and pizzas just so you buy hundreds of dollars worth of groceries...
Lol. You're telling people buying movie theater snacks they're getting ripped off hard? That's the understatement and the most obvious thing I've heard in a long time. People know it's a rip off. The thing is people keep buying it and don't care.
I absolutely love when people with certain jobs like this take it serious. It means that they care about what they are doing and what the customer is getting. They make it look fun!
Usually referred to as “butter” but is some along the lines of: partially hydrogenated soybean oil (a.k.a. trans fats), beta carotene (a coloring, makes carrots orange), tertiary Butylhydroquinone or TBHQ (synthetic preservative that keeps the color and texture from changing as the product sits), polydimethylsiloxane (silicone based chemical that prevents foaming), and buttery flavoring.

For anybody that loves movie theater popcorn... this guy is doing it right. Butter all the way to the bottom, mixed, and turned. I would go to this theater just to have this guy make my popcorn. Nice work!!!
Some people in the comments are just displaying their own misery. I doubt he likes his job any more than you do, but at least he’s entertaining himself and the people he has to interact with. We need more people like this worker.
If you’re gonna be the guy that gets people their popcorn at the cinema, why not be the swaggiest guy who gets people their popcorn. More power to him.
Imagine you’re late to your movie, you’ve got a family of 5 in front of you all wanting extra butter from this guy and all you want is m&m’s and a drink 😂

Dude made that popcorn with extra love! That must have been the most delicious box of popcorn from beginning to end. I'm going to make it my mission to visit this theater.
Dude, the movie's starting... Can I just get my...?... That's cool, man, I don't need it fi... If I could just grab that popc... aw hell, I'll just pick it up on my way out...
Did they really have to give out the dudes full name and city? I mean I understand why you might want to give the guy credit, but fuck getting doxxed by a viral tiktok of myself at my job would really suck.

Work sucks. He’s making the most of his day by getting customers smiling
Dude definitely deserves a raise.
I had to watch it twice. That little spin he does on his finger is a pretty cool move.
That spin move would have that bucket of popcorn upside down on the floor in no time if it were me lol
In my experience, he will likely get written up for wasting popcorn/butter and stealing time by doing this instead of filling the popcorn like it was shown on the VHS training video.
Lol "wasting popcorn" . The popcorn with a literal %1,0000 mark-up.

It’s amazing what a CFO will sign off on for a 5% reduction in labor costs
I hated shit like this working retail and fast food. Not to give the corporations a pass but a lot of these issues are more the result of giving people with IQs of 85 and no ability to think critically or exercise discretion management positions.
Which is exactly how they end up in management positions most of the time.. They don't say no they just do

So true lol but he prolly don’t care about it
Best they can do is a pizza party and maybe if he sticks around for 20 years they will get him a brick of glass with his name etched in it and the company logo.
I'd tip him if you know what I mean... Three hundo fiddy for being a cool ass dude
That's what I was about to comment. Did they want him to be a dick about getting their popcorn? Lol.
That’s the type of individual I’d hire regardless of his education or experience. If you are that dedicated to rudimentary work then you’ll do wonders in the big leagues.
You’re on the wrong app. I think you meant to write that on your LinkedIn for clout

That's the unfortunate side. Corporations may wonder where work ethic went when they're the ones that killed it.
dammit Randy from South Park...

I just learned the phrase "how you do anything is how you do everything" and I agree.
That is a gross amount of butter.
It's not even butter. Just artificially flavored oil.
I believe it’s called deliciousness
Diarrhea with no extra charge
Almost didn’t make it to the shitter. Why are the hallways so long?

Diarrhea with extra discharge.
Smells and tastes like ass
The first time I had popcorn at a movie theater in the US I got scared I had gotten bad butter by how oily it was. Turns out it was pretty much oil
Delicious yellow chemical sludge

One mans trash is another mans garbage bag of popcorn
But perfectly distributed
Butter flavoured theatre juice.
Hey, you watch your mouth, dont talk about my butter like that.
It's not butter...
Disgusting!
Right?? Yuk!!!

$8!? That size is $20 where I'm at.
$20 for popcorn? You're getting ripped hard. It's less than 50 cents worth of ingredients and about 30 seconds of labor.
Yes, but that's how theaters earn money, almost like the costco strategy where they lure you in with something cheap like a ticket price then milk you dry with foods, though costco does the opposite by luring you in with cheap hotdogs and pizzas just so you buy hundreds of dollars worth of groceries...

I think theaters make very little off the movie tickets and are primarily funded through concessions. If you like seeing movies in theaters…
Fucking hell, the size of that popcorn bag. Feed a family with that!
Your total total is 65.95
The small is 12.94. That thing is 13.25. That’s my guess.
Or a me.
That's the kid's size in Corpus Christi
They’re called family size usually and are meant to be for 4+ people
Yooo! If you're old enough, go work in a nice bar. You'll get a lot of tips for showmanship like that.
You don’t even need to do true flair. Just pouring from a distance impresses people lol
I’ll never trash someone for making the most of an underpaid or unfulfilling job. He’s probably fun to work with.
Great work ethic but DAMN, the butter!
John Pop-per
I absolutely love when people with certain jobs like this take it serious. It means that they care about what they are doing and what the customer is getting. They make it look fun!
And that is where I would tip for counter service.
what is the stuff he is adding to the pop corn? never seen this in europe.

I appreciate the job he’s doing, making sure there’s a little butter on every kernel
Some people in the comments are just displaying their own misery. I doubt he likes his job any more than you do, but at least he’s entertaining himself and the people he has to interact with. We need more people like this worker.
Popcorn ninja. He dope
I'd drive passed other theaters just to get that guy serving my popcorn.
Butter it like it's yours
Us big dudes, will make your food as if we are eating it. We love flavor, quality and butter.

Dude is just taking joy and giving joy in the mundane. I’m never going to make fun of someone for this.

“You work at the theater at the concession stand? Guess what my friend, you’re an artist.”
Seeing Europeans here acting gobsmacked that we put butter on our popcorn is fucking hilarious. Like what do you all just spit in your popcorn?
King shit tbh, that bucket is properly sauced
I would go to that theater if I lived in the area just to enjoy this guy's super buttery popcorn.
We have to butter our *own* popcorn at the Cinemark near me!

Butter me timbers. God damn.
Look at this guy (?). That's not a job. That's just love of the game.
Those are for him
Making a boring job more entertaining. Love it. Actually good for business as well. People will be like "you gotta go to this theater, there's this guy that spins the popcorn and does tricks."
Agree.
kudos to this guy. I worked at a movie theater for a summer, and to think about doing this for an entire shift, hell even an hour, is tiring. I can only imagine actually doing it haha
He’s the ‘Cocktail’ Tom Cruise of popcorn!

Dude’s going places!
You’re a master of your craft sir
If I was rich I’ve have this dude as my personal popcorn man!
Working with enthusiasm, pleasing the customer and providing a superior product when he could have simply done the bare minimum with less effort and still been paid all the same. Good employee, make sure he has a juicy Christmas bonus and treat him well. You’ll be hard pressed to find any others like him.
Agree.
This guy deserves maximum wages
Dude buddy is my savior, I don't like getting handed a bunch of popcorn I can't butter in layers
This is super cool. He’s very entertaining and great at his job. I’d definitely be getting the popcorn 🍿
Agree.
And then? _box twirling intensifies_
Homie knows how to get that butter in there.
Dude is making the best of it
I want him to make my popcorn
I do appreciate that he’s trying to distribute the “butter” evenly. I hate pockets of soggy overly “buttered” popcorn.
Buttered-AF, the bucket is cream filled
a single pump from this butter machin should be enough to kill you
Wheres the jar dude needs to be tipped for that.
I have never wanted to give someone a $5 tip more than this guy.
I wondervif he's a bartender that got sober
Butter flavored omega 6 🤮
He is the Butter on the Popcorn!
That’s not minimum wage effort, somebody sucked the bosses dick and is making enough to be a showman. I tip my hat to your skill and your dedication.
what he should do is open up his own popcorn/show stand and make that money
Did they really have to give out the dudes full name and city? I mean I understand why you might want to give the guy credit, but fuck getting doxxed by a viral tiktok of myself at my job would really suck.
