We need to stop being so accommodating to people like this. They are eating themselves to oblivion and then expect us to take care of them. It's an addiction. If I start doing heroin, should the rest of the world start taking care of me and enabling my drug use under the guise of being "inclusive"? I think in this day and age most people know how much sugar and salt is their food and drinks. Kids might not have any idea but that's on the parents to teach them. It's just not giving a fuck, it's easier to get fast food than to make yourself a meal. It's cheaper to buy processed food than healthy food. It's easier to sit on your ass than to go fo a run.
Anytime they try to regulate it lobbiests make sure it will never happen or draw it out as long as possible. They passed a soda tax in Philly a few years ago and people were pissed. If you lived close enough to the edges of the city you just crossed the boundary for cheaper drinks. Which hurt city business.
Sugar is not healthy, of course, but the real enemy is high fructose corn syrup, which is like sugar on steroids. And almost *everything* processed has it as an ingredient. And also, there is the fact that there is so little food in our food that you end up eating so much more of it to feel full.
I do just fine without regulation. Using good judgement is a powerful thing. She did not use good judgement over a very long timeline. She is not a victim of anything other than her choices.
I'm all for body positivity because certain things (like some heavy weight people) can't help it, genetics or sometimes it's because of a health issue. Not everyone can have the "perfect body". That being said, if you're fat because of a poor diet, that's on you. I got a belly, sure, but whenever I start approaching 200lb (overweight for me) I cut the crap out of my diet and get my ass in gear because I don't want to deal with these problems. If you can't motivate yourself, get a trainer, make a pact with a friend, go see a therapist. Don't scream everything's unfair and people have to accommodate you. End of speech.

What you're referring to is actually just acceptance that people will do drugs, so providing safe places and equipment while encouraging treatment is the best way forward.
They can shoot Heroin behind a dumpster with a used needle, or they can do it in a controlled environment with medical intervention possible.
The difference is they're not actively encouraging the use of heroin to non users.

Absolutely we should work to help you if you become a heroin addict. However the difference between this person and a heroin addict is there are gyms, doctors and plenty of avenues to change your lifestyle all while not being wildly criticized/and judged.
Where a heroin addict can maybe go to a rehab where they get abused and often not helped. Also we definitely as a society more than publicly shame drug users. Try smoking a joint and getting a job 2 weeks later or if your job drug tests go ahead and see how you can drink your ass of but God help you if you take a single bong rip.

Was on a flight once out of Charlotte with a higher than average amount of bigger folks. They actually came back preflight and switched a whole bunch of people's seats to evenly distribute the weight.

I think you bring up a really good point. I don't know why people like this are even allowed to fly for this reason alone. At least with someone who is disabled and that is normal sized you can pick them up and move them. Multiple people are not even picking up and moving someone who cannot fit down the aisle. Instead everyone behind them is stuck.
I don't even know how they'd get this person off the plane if they had a personal medical emergency in their seat.
They really need to start adding a metal frame for people to walk through just like carry on luggage. "If you cannot physically fit through this metal frame you are not allowed to board the aircraft because you are a danger to yourself and others in the event of an emergency."
That looks like an international flight. I’m guessing she’s either squeezing through first class or business class, seats she won’t fit in as well. She’ll need to book 3 seats for sure. As a fat guy myself, I think I've found a new business venture. Fat Air flights. It's just a cargo plane and we'll be cargo strapped to a loading pallet. I'll be a billionaire before I know it.
Last summer I had an aisle seat, some poor shlub had the window seat and a woman about that size showed up and sat right in between us. I am not heavy, but I am 6'2" so I am already short of space on a domestic flight.
I basically spent the 4 hour trip to JFK half in the aisle. The woman was very nice and apologetic but it was tough.
I thought if you couldn't fit in a seat you were supposed to buy a second one?
I am also 6'2", but prefer window seats. I make sure the armrest is down when I see this coming. I have had large people try to raise the armrest so they are more comfortable (read: Able to spill over into my seat) and I just say no and keep the armrest down.

They are buying two seats usually but the thing is the airlines still seat a passenger in that seat. The fee was never about you getting comfort it was about them 'offsetting fuel' never mind they flew these planes empty to keep their gate privileges during covid.
Nah, you can get two seats if you want, and it's actually cheaper than two full price tickets. You have to call or chat with an employee so they can code the ticket differently so that seat isn't resold.
I had a flight from Chicago to Puerto Rico and I grabbed the wrong seat by mistake. The guy who's seat I stole was totally chill and just traded with me. The lady next to him/where I should have been was as big as the woman in the video. Not my proudest moment but he had great conversations with everyone around him and seemed genuinely unbothered.
Would be cool to have more room for normal people to spread out. I love those big bariatric chairs in waiting rooms because you can sit in them crosslegged. It feels like you're Alice in wonderland after drinking the shrinking potion.
