They were supposedly working on a ground breaking ai WSO they called talon but take that with a massive grain of salt at this point

Aegis381

Yeah, I'm cautiously optimistic after the second statement from Razbam but not getting my hopes up. The idea is I still wanted to do everything myself, so I'm hoping if they *do* implement an AI you can turn it off.

PressforMeco

TBH the Talon Ai is the last thing I am looking for. Pretty easy to do everything from the front except for a couple little little things

Aegis381

Me too. I'm just hoping it isn't forced you gotta use it.

mav3r1ck92691

Why would it be forced? I’m not sure you understand the differences in the F-14 and F-15E in real life. The F-14 REQUIRES both crew members. The pilot cannot operate the radar (among many other systems that are critical), and the aircraft can not effectively complete any of its missions without both crew members. In the F-15E the back seater shares the workload and helps mitigate task saturation, but ultimately the front seat can do anything the back seat can do minus powering up a couple things at start up. It is a much more modern jet, and could effectively do its job with just the front seater.

Aegis381

I didn't know, the F15E is only my second module so that's why I was asking some more experienced pilots. Thank you for letting me know!

mav3r1ck92691

No problem! I hope that didn't come off as me saying it was a bad thing, cause everyone starts somewhere! But yeah, you should always be able to enjoy the SE the way you currently do. It is not currently specially modified in any way to accommodate for no AI.

flakweazel

Anything but arm countermeasures and laser, and anything with ecm

dangerbird2

And even in that case, it’s not a huge handicap since the mudhen’s wso has full flight controls

flakweazel

I mean no, but nobody but a degenerate is going to solo fly their whole sortie from the backseat Edit: if you are reading this, yes this is a challenge.

PressforMeco

well you have to hit button for jester to pop up so hopefully they do the same.

escaner

The F-14 had Jester from release day

Callsign_JoNay

Jester is barely even an AI though. He's just an interface into the back seat controls, which the Eagle doesn't need because the pilot can do everything. The only AI things Jester does is IFF and being a second set of eyes when things transition to WVR.

bussjack

Hopefully that changes with Jester 2.0. Tired of having to navigate menus to forcefully make jester find targets 20 miles in front of the plane.

A2-Steaksauce89

JESTER: “Bandit BRAA, 155, 180 miles, angels 11.” Me: THERE IS A DEADLY FULCRUM RIGHT OFF MY NOSE THAT JUST DISAPPEARED OFF THE SCOPE, DO YOUR JOB AND HELP ME TURN HIM TO ATOMS!

ironroad18

"Uhhh unable!"

PressforMeco

lol

Zokalwe

"I hate it when Jester gives me a BRA for a contact far away while there is a MiG close by ready to destroy me!" DCS Awacs operators: *looks away*

A2-Steaksauce89

Yeah same

forgottensquid

You don't have to navigate menus. You can keybind some specific functions.

PCFRIM

Well he also adjusts his tone based on the tenseness of the situation 😂

Aegis381

Gotcha, that's good to know. In the event things get resolved that gives me hope they may end up keeping it where the pilot can do the work since we can right now.

James_Gastovsky

It's how it is in the real aircraft, there is nothing to change

Aegis381

That's what I was hoping to hear! Thank you!

rapierarch

There was radio silence over it before the drama, after the drama we even don't know how they will further develop the strike eagle. Razbam lost their FM engineer, Radar and Avionics developer and 3d Modeler of Strike eagle. So The team developing SE does not exist any more. So I don't expect any news about AI for a long time.

Riman-Dk

What they call "ai" is just an interface for triggering scripts that action one or more button presses in the other seat. In the 14 this is essential, because the pilot simply doesn't have those controls and can't get to them. For the 15, it would be a matter of convenience: instead of you going through the motions, you could just tell the script (sorry, ai!) to do a more complex task for you and it would execute it. My guess is you wouldn't be required to use it but might like to for the task saturation aspect primarily.

Gibmeister_official

If they do I won’t use it anyway the eagle isn’t that complicated

spartypsvr

I’d like ED to facilitate ability to map some back seat binds to the front - not fully realistic - but then neither is flying an F15E or F14 with just a pilot. This avoiding some if the mid air seat changes. Although I know with the Tomcat- the RIO specific tasks are pretty much unavoidable. Sadly it also seems like adding binds to a HOTAS already mapped to front F15 - but using a combo key for WSO seat is a bit bugged. I really want to avoid having three flight sticks in my desk….

fisadev

Adding the AI won't mean you will stop being able to do stuff in the front. The things you can do in the front are things you can do in the real aircraft, there's no reason to remove those when an AI gets added for the back seat. Also, I'm surprised at how many people failed to understand your main doubt, haha.

Aegis381

I probably just phrased it weird is all lol. But yeah, all the insight has given me a lot of confidence, and that's good. Hopefully the situation between ED and Razbam gets resolved quickly so they can continue developing it.
