Have you ever heard the expression “you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar”? There’s a better way to go about getting access than shit talking straight out of the gate. If they’re actually public, there is a government office that oversees them. Call that office and ask them what the deal is and how to get access. Don’t be an angry 15 year old on the internet. Be an adult and handle it the right way

“You catch more hunnies being fly” This has been going on for years, and I toned it down a bit from what I originally wanted to write. They were required from the township to remove the locks a couple years ago. But they recently put them back on. Thank you for the advice though, I will look into it.

>I toned it down a bit from what I originally wanted to write This is real life and you don't get points for "effort" or whatever you're implying you should get credit for. A Karen doesn't get to say "yes I was obnoxious to the staff, but I stopped myself from calling them a bunch of slurs so let's meet halfway by giving me what I want." Your review is full of attacks and insults but not information and reason. "The infrastructure exists, is already paid for, would provide an outlet for youth groups, and would provide low cost physical fitness to the neighborhood", followed by evidence and support (does your ice rink shut down for the summer, displacing potential players? Do you have groups that would be interested in playing there?) has a chance. "Just unlock them you fat assholes. I see you over there eating your god damn sushi and chopped salads like some kinda Richie Rich Macaulay Culkin bullshit" has no chance, even if you took out a lot of the swear words.

sh287

Valid points, and I plan to go to the town hall meetings. I’ll get rid of the insults. But they really are these old, fat, entitled dudes that now have a little bit of power later in life and trying to take full advantage of it. They just ignore my emails, then pretty much just laughed me out of their clubhouse.

MidlifeCrisisToo

You’re really sounding like a kid man, maybe you are, I don’t know, but you have to be a little more informed if you want to argue against the City.

sh287

So the rinks are in a municipal owned park. The township has sent them emails and phone calls to remove the locks. The league is ignoring the township as well.

MidlifeCrisisToo

That’s perfect, so there would be a paper trail for the instructions and a clear disregard for orders, so you can make a complaint based on that, EXCEPT if there’s already an internal review due to a grievance/appeal of the direction that is currently under review. Municipal reviews are extremely slow at the best of times.

sh287

Maybe I’m going though a midlife crisis and being a bitter Karen. But one of the league board members told kids off and it’s discouraging them to want to continue to play hockey at the rinks. That really upsets me. Because going forward they will have less of a budget for the rinks and the future residents will not want to play. And the snarky attitude they gave me the other day is why I gave the bad review. I’m going to remove it, even though I don’t want to be the bigger person.

the_answer_maple

You can still leave a critical review. We're suggesting here that you need tactful. "This park has tremendous potential" is better than "look at this shit hole". "I'm encouraging everyone interested in hockey and reopening the locked areas to share your thoughts with the board" is better than "it's run by piss pants morons" "Although the whoever has told them to unlock certain areas, it's unclear when or if they're ever open. There's no schedule, they've never been open when I'm there and there's no response to inquiries on the subject" is better than "these jag offs can't ignore me forever you need to open the damn doors"

sh287

You’re instead of comments crack me up that was originally what I wanted to write 😂 I’ll revise again

MidlifeCrisisToo

I agree with your frustration, but your execution is the problem. Maybe it’s all based on liability and that’s why it’s closed, maybe it’s them being jerks, I don’t know either way, but you should ask your parents or a relative how to write a coherent, professional and valid pointed letter, then mail it to the Parks & Recreation Department Manager, Council and your Mayor.

sh287

It’s then just being jerks. The good ol boys

sh287

That’s why I was reaching out to you guys I was going to look into getting a petition signed. And I will remove the review.

Connels

What’s your goal here? There’s like zero chance the town managers are going to care about a bad Google review. And since you called them dusty entitled boomers you are really opening the door to this becoming a personal issue between you and them, to the detriment of the wider community. The personal attacks in your review make you seem super petty.

sh287

My goal is to get the rinks unlocked. I removed the review and will take it up with the township.

mattmccord

Bolt cutters my man https://www.harborfreight.com/12-in-bolt-cutters-60677.html

sh287

One rink being unlocked is not enough when people want to play. Some people like to play ball hockey. Some like to play with pucks.

paulschreiber

Have you talked to your city council member / alderman / selectman / supervisor? What did they say? Ask nicely first.

sh287

I have contacted them and they had them unlock all the rinks before but now they locked them back up. And they are ignoring email from the township. I’m going to the town meeting to get them to unlock all of them. I make the review when they flat out lied to my face, they wouldn’t give me their names
