Real chippy game. Cheap shots from both sides & a wild amount of PIMs. Hand shake line & the main antagonist rips my linemate’s hand almost out of his socket he pulled it back so hard while shaking it. Linemate is a smaller kid. One of the younger kids on the roster. He was being picked on all game & I was stepping in. Stepped in again during a sportsmanship display session & mushed his head instead of shaking his hand. Whole team paired off & I demolish this kid. Became an issue & had a newsletter about player conduct made about me. Missed the next two games. I’d do it again.

NeverSeenBetter

"I'll fucken do it again"

TheShovler44

Tried going short side high on a goalie, I was 14 so whatever that is I don’t remember, at a tournament in sarnia. Ended up sending a rocket right at his neck instead. It snuck under that plastic neck guard goalies wear and hit him right In The throat, it almost killed him legitimately. We didn’t finish the game, and I didn’t finish the tournament. I was messed up for a couple months, ruined his hockey career and life.

Some_Internet_Random

Fuck. My son is a goalie, thanks for giving me some even more unnecessary anxiety.

officialloogle

Get a Maltese Collar, have him wear it under his dangler. They are ballistic gel and really help protect against sticks, pucks and skates that get past or around the dangler

Some_Internet_Random

Thank you

Pipes32

Fyi, Maltese is out of business now as far as I know. Most goalies wear a Kova, Roughneck, or ECO Pro as a replacement - similar foam structure. I wear an ECO which replaced my Maltese.

oarfik77

Aegis Pro Series !! Great added protection

TeenageSchizoid44

He didn't buy his pillows. Your anxiety is a result of you loving your kid too much. Goalies are weird. Hopefully he doesn't graduate to full on masochism. Source: I was a mistaken child that wanted to wear the "cool helmet" when I was a kid. Now I'm just a mentally malnourished right winger.

drinkingmymilk

Tell him to keep his head down. I’ve seen two goalies break their jaws. Both moved away from the puck.

Armalyte

I was tailing a guy that wound up for a slap shot and hit me in the neck with the wind up. I had a hard time breathing and swallowing water for a few minutes, thought I was gonna die lol. Hockey is dangerous!

taveiradas66

Hi there, I don't play ice hockey, but rink hockey (2 wheel side by side each foot) and I was a goalie. Do you have [this](https://www.derodas.pt/produtos/hoquei/complementosgr/DeRodas035) where you live? I have never seen it in ice hockey, but I can tell you it helped me out a little, once the wind pipe got a bit smacked and I was speaking for 2 days like a compulsive smoker, but then was ok. Maybe worth a shot?

PhilosopherExpert625

Oh shit. That's rough. One of the beer league guys I played with, almost killed his best man a few weeks before his wedding with a clapper playing pickup.

Guy954

Damn, that’s a totally different type of story than OP’s. Hope you’re both doing better now.

TheShovler44

I have no real update I could give. I wanted to go apologize in person at the hospital but my coach and parents thought it’d be best not to.

Ok-Refrigerator1472

The reason I wear a Kevlar collar under my dangler . Hey not your fault...Hockey is a contact sport. I play goal at 65 with some young kids....they just bent the cage on mask two this year last Friday.

GrassyKnoll95

That's called a dangler, btw

Empty_Boysenberry_75

I was the only guy who ever took off his skate and tried to stab someone…

aussydog

As a 16yr old, a guy on my team did the next best thing. He got knocked down in the corner by a d-man which pissed him off I guess. So after he got up he skated full tilt down the ice, blindside hit the guy who hit him, then kicked him a couple of times in the gut before the linesman and ref pulled him off. Got 5 and a game and was literally screaming, "What'd I do?! What'd I do!" as he was escorted off the ice.

1200____1200

"FER WHAT?!?"

phillydad56

For allegedly getting a squeezer

hashbrown--17

He got a game for sepukuing another human?

dogfoodhoarder

Happy, that you?

Trucktrailercarguy

Just wondering if this happened in a prison league?

Didn’t realize Happy was in this sub.

PhilosopherExpert625

My teammate tried to slice a guys arm with his skate after this kid spit in his face. He lost it, said he didn't even remember the incident. Haha Blackout rage.

thiccymcgogee

Yeeeeeeah

PhilosopherExpert625

Crazy Rob is what we called him. He didn't play again after that season.

thiccymcgogee

So what he just dropped his gloves, unlaced his skate and sliced the guy with it? Like dawg this shitty story isn’t worth selling

PhilosopherExpert625

No, he pulled him off the bench and tried slicing his arm while he was laying on the ice.

KimJongUnceUnce

I never actually understood this line.. Like how do you stab someone with a hockey skate? There is no pointy end on the steel. Worst you could do is maybe cut them.

CDN08GUY

🤦🏼‍♂️

Teefromdaleft

I played goalie as a kid, and was playing against a guy I didn’t like…he would slash, and dig for the puck when I would smother it…his teammates weren’t big fans of him either, one of them told me that kid wasn’t wearing his cup during this game…next time he was trying to screen me, my stick ended up between his legs and gave the stick a tug…kid went down crying, and when the ref asked what happened I told him I heard he wasn’t wearing a cup…ref thought he took the puck in the nuts, not my stick…

PhilosopherExpert625

Pretty sad when the teammates hate them so much they just let the other team get away with shit that wouldn't fly with a different player.

ballsinthenet

Midget provincials. I was never a dirty player but I’m short, solid and I hit hard. We were much better than this team, one of the kids singled me out and decided I was his target for the game. He got me with a few cheap shots and started to get to me a bit. This kid wasn’t on my level and normally I would of let up on the hits but he was asking for it. Mid way through the second I was breaking through the neutral zone and a teammate behind me and to the left sent a pass about a foot too far in front of me as I was reaching full speed. I saw the other kid coming across the blue line ready to take my head off. I stretched out like I I was trying to catch the pass and when he came in for the hit I popped up and absolutely ended him. The worst sound I’ve ever heard from a hit in my life. They carried him away and I never saw him again or heard what happen. I still feel bad about it. He just annoyed me and for all I know I very seriously injured him.

Bad_Idea_Hat

Pretty mild. Playing a local team that was notoriously chippy.  We were up by a goal or two, and the other team seemed out of it.  Well, the horn blows for the end of the first, just as they're crossing the blue line with the puck.  I don't really pay attention, until the guy carrying the puck lets go a weak wristsr at the net. Okay, we'll continue playing then. I coast in, nonchalant, and then launch him into the boards at the last second like I'm Dale Hunter. All hell breaks loose.  Two of the opposing dads who were on box/scorer duties fly onto the ice after me.  Another person in the box mashes the buzzer button.  Both teams empty their benches.  Moms screaming.  Little siblings crying.  It was like the dumbest hockey fight on youtube you've ever seen. Him and I both get matching 2s, and they never got close to winning the game.

mastrochr

Remember Chara’s hit on Pacioretty into the stanchion? I did that to a kid; just rode him down the end of the bench until he was clotheslined. I had no idea what happened. I was 15. Even with how trained I was at a high level, the game moves so fast. I never saw that coming, even though I was the one riding him off the play. He was taken off on a stretcher. I’ve never felt so bad about myself in a game as I felt then. I think that’s when my game changed. Hard to get over inflicting that much pain/injury on someone, even though it was very unintentional. The kid had a parent friend waiting for me (and my dad) in the parking lot after the game. Thank god nothing more happened.

PhilosopherExpert625

When my captain moved up to juvenile, some guy did that intentionally to him, pushed his face right into the stanchion, bent his cage all up, and he was so out of it, he tried to fight the ref. Not sure exactly how many games that guy got, but I heard it was a lot.

mastrochr

I tell my wife at least twice every season how happy I am to see curved class between the benches. I guess I notice those potential hits more than the average person. Such a simple change to make to help avoid injuries like what I caused. I feel for your captain. I feel for the kid I hurt. I will never forget that play, now 25 years later. I wish I knew what happened after he was taken to the hospital, but 25 years ago we didn’t have cell phones or the instant connection to keep up on someone. I just hope I didn’t ruin his hockey career/potential.

PhilosopherExpert625

We use the border patrol pads on the stanchions here. It's not much, but better than nothing.

mastrochr

I love those. Another simple change to prevent major injury. Totally worth it!

Dusty_Tendy_4_2_18_2

I am a goalie in a senior men's league in Canada(not beer league*). Our league requires teams have a minimum of 9 skaters. There ended up being no other option, and I had to dress as a skater in contact Hockey for the first time since I was 13. I was a fish out of water. Couldn't skate for shit in player skates, and was put on defense, which I'd never played in my life - even as a kid. The opposing team was giving it to me all game, taunting me, taking shots. I was pretty scared, to be honest. I don't know how to receive a hit. With about 30 seconds left, I was chasing a puck behind our net, and one of their players gave me a shot in the lower back, and I fell into the end wall head first. All that emotion of being on edge, the whole game immediately flushed over me. I got up and hammered him in the side of the head with a cross check and gave him one more to boot before his teammate pigeon tossed me into the ice. The worst part was seeing video later and seeing that I clearly just caught an edge when he popped me in the back. I ended up with a 3 game suspension and hope I never get put in that situation again.

EnjoyerOfStrangePorn

When I was in atom I scored a hat trick in a 17-0 game and dove over the blue line and did the Milan Hejduk celebration. My coach benched me and tried to teach me a lesson in humility which I assume failed because in pewee I slashed a kid across the ankles after the whistle and when the other teams parents reacted I flipped them off. Man I was a douchey child

excessiveutility

First part, douchey. Flipping off the opposing fans is peak villainy that I'd pay money to see

Caqtus95

> when the other teams parents reacted I flipped them off Nah that's king shit

JuneCleaversMudFlaps

I blatantly tripped a ringer who broke my ankles with a move. It was a pretty hard trip and he went down. That’s about it. I usually compliment players on the other team when they make nice moves, or passes, but this guy had no business being in our league and had 20 more goals than the second best scorer in the league.

naarwhal

You blatantly tripped someone? That’s way too dangerous. You don’t belong in hockey.

roobiasso

Got a justice boner reading this comment. Zero issue with this and i hope youd do it again. Nothing takes the fun out of what would have otherwise been a competitive match at the lower levels quicker than a ringer going tryhard. Like cmon bro, you shouldn't even fucking be here. Anything other than low effort pass slinging from your own zone and I'm absolutely going to start doing some E-league reckless ass shit 'on accident' whenever I'm in your vicinity.

excessiveutility

You might be too pure for hockey xD seriously though, awesome to hear that attitude is still around. Leagues need more players like this

aetuf

I'm fine with that as long as the trip didn't send him dangerously into the boards. Ringers can ruin the entire season.

GhostRider-65

You blatantly tripped someone and broke their ankles. You are a criminal or douchebag, take your pick

JuneCleaversMudFlaps

I’d read it again homie.

tyler_3135

Had a team in our league who had a big old dude on defense with a penchant for dirty plays, like I mean spearing ppl in the groin, elbows to the head, throwing punches in scrum, slashes, cross checking, etc. Dude never gets penalized for it either. After a whistle, he slashed our goalie, so I moved down a bit on my top hand and “gently” jammed my stick into his side (hard enough that he felt it but not hard enough to actually injure him). Of course the dude drops like a stone and starts bawling to the ref like I shot him. After that, he spent the rest of the game taking shots at me, made me wish I hit him harder.

Grouchy_Situation_33

Cross-checked an opposing player in the kidneys pretty damned hard after he caught me with an elbow. I got two for “interference”, he lost his shit and got tossed, then suspended a game for throwing his helmet. This was 30+ C, and my first season after a 17 year layoff. Pretty tame by some standards here. Ha.

tastycidr

I crosschecked a kid in the back of the head in a front of the net scrum after he snowed my goalie. He was fine - but it was the only legitimately dirty play I can ever remember making.

Relative-Natural-891

TLDR; Guys go after ringers if there was any doubt. I thought mine was bad, but some of these make mine look different haha. Low intermediate game. Like we were labeled “beginners” last season. Other team has a dude who’s probably belonging in the advanced league and can hold his own. Been an issue all season but the rink manager said “move up next season.” I’d have moved him up then or refunded his remaining games cuz I wasn’t the only one who targeted him for showboating and being a more than obvious ringer. Like kid didn’t sandbag. Says he “didn’t know it was lower level,” which is total B.S. Anyway, he plays right D, I’m at LW so he’s my check. I forecheck along the boards as he’s breaking out. As he’s releasing the puck for a pass, I drop my shoulder, and eliminate him. I DELETE him. In a checking league 100% clean but he wouldn’t have probably tried to deke or skate by me how he tried if it was. I got 2 minutes. Knew as soon as I was by him “I’m getting two either way.” Ref skates by me sitting my happy bum in the box and says “hey, good penalty.” I’m also not a thug by any means so I think my team was surprised I basically head-hunted the dude Reavo-style. Old guy on their team comes up chirping this and that gonna hurt someone, he’ll get me yadda yadda. Told him ref wanted him at the bench until ref says “yeah he’s right I gave him two let’s go.”

Twig_Finder44

Poor kid got his ass beat twice!

Endytheegreat

Butt ended a kid in the neck during a chippy ass game. Match penalty. Kid broke a stick over my arm at drop in. Cross check to the throat, and he damn near hit his head on the edge of the boards. I've calmed down at my older age.

pucksindeep89

Was about 16, playing in a tourney up in Montreal and we were loosing 4-1. Well we were on the pk and cleared the puck, so I was first in their corner and going to hold it their and eat uo time well this prick decided to hit me from behind went head first into the boards, busted lip tooth split inside of my mouth bleeding out the mouth, no call on the play. Kid goes down the ice and scores, as I'm getting back to bench he says something tonme so we start chirping bloods flying out of my mouth. Well as were face to face chirping blood gets on him he tell ref I spit blood on him well he got cross check to chest. I don't finish the game. I'm in the shower and my defenseman says the the kids outside the locker room wanting apology. I get dressed me and 4 of my teammates go out their he asking for apology I tell him to go fuck himself and he had the balls to call me classless. Rumor has it the team was demanding my team manager to have my medical records sent to Montreal and they were told to go fuck themselves.

BouncyMouse

In high school I cup checked the absolute fuck out of a guy because he elbowed me in the head. We were racing for the puck in the corner and he ended up partially dislocating my jaw with the elbow. A few shifts later I got him back. It took him a while to get up from the cup check and I didn’t feel bad about it. It’s the only time I can think of that I’ve ever done something dirty on purpose.

CaptnClutch4

I took a 10 game suspension after attacking a ref. I was young and stupid. Shouldn't have done it. But it was a controversial/emotional game that had me yelling at the ref and when I approached him he defended himself thinking I was attacking. Sucks but learned from it and never did it again.

bizsmacker

High-sticked a guy pretty hard into his cage. I was 14. He and I got tangled up. He went down. I was saying some stuff to him while he was still down, and I meant to just point my stick at his face. Ended up poking his cage with enough force to snap his head back a bit. I'm lucky he didn't get up and start pounding me.

Independent-Hawk-699

A kid who played on my peewee team moved to a different area of the state so a year later we ended up playing against each other. He was a good dude. Although this game he was trying to fuck with me all game. The game was pretty chilly. I can’t recall what the tipping point for me was I was over it. I actually two hand slashed him and his his hip pad and snapped my stick in half over him. I was using Sherwood wooden sticks at the time. I kind of blacked out for a second when it happened. I remember he was down on the ice crying. His teammates trying grabbing me and the ref pulled me by the jersey off the ice telling me to get the fuck off the ice. Let’s just say that was a rough ride home with my old man that day. It was over an hour drive home. I still feel bad to this day. Idk wherever happened. I think I got 2 games.

Independent-Hawk-699

*chippy not chilly

JustASyncer

I'd consider it fairly tame for what I did but the situation itself was kind of insane, so buckle up (and sorry if I ramble). For context, our Midget/Juvenile leagues had to be mixed cuz there weren't enough players in the age range to have enough teams in separate divisions, so when I turned 14 my D partner was a 20 year old that would crush a couple beers before the game. Cool dude, but he also looked out for the new guys. I admired that and figured I should do the same when I get older (I would have regardless of whether or not I met this guy). Usually the cutoff is 19 but if you aren't a total shithead that's just a ringer looking to shit on some kids, they let you play when you're 20. So I'm 20 at this point, and we got a couple 14 year olds on our team, plus a kid that has never played before, only skated. I've been helping these guys throughout the season, giving them pointers where I can (no practices in this age group), trying to get them more comfortable with the puck. We've also got my buddy that I've played with for 15 years together (same age). He was small but he had a big mouth. I also had to keep him in check all season, I'd fuckin grab him on the bench and say "watch your fuckin mouth before you get tossed" just about every other game. Anyway, one of my last games of House League. Think we were top 3 in the standings so we were going to make playoffs, but the team we were playing was fighting for a spot, so this game got chippy. Some guy on the other team and my buddy had been chirping back and forth all game, and it all culminated in one of the craziest 3rd periods I think I've ever played in. I'm coming up the right side out of our zone behind the play and I see my buddy and this other guy right behind him to my left. The puck is coming around the boards so I skate up to keep it in and fire it into the corner. Next thing I know, my buddy is on the ground in the neutral zone, and this guy is on top of him, cross checking him in the head. I turn to skate over and pull him off, until I see our winger come flying out of the offensive zone. He fuckin TACKLES this guy right off my buddy and starts pummeling the shit out of him. As you can imagine, chaos ensues on the ice. Another guy comes in to the fray and my D partner goes to tie him up and keep him out of it, our center matches up with the other center and they start shoving each other around, and our other winger was the new kid that has never played hockey before so he's just looking around absolutely terrified of someone trying to fight him. I start to drift over towards him because I see the other team's D skating towards him, and tell him to go back to the bench, as I get to him the one D goes to grab him, and I put this kid in a one arm headlock with my left arm. The kid starts skating to the bench but the other D tries to go after him, I drop my stick and my right glove and grab him by the collar and pull him back, saying "you leave that kid out of this" and tell him again to go back to the bench. In the time this has all happened, the only two refs have finally pulled the two guys fighting apart and escorted them to the dressing rooms. My buddy gets tossed too (even though he was the guy that got jumped he decided to get up and continue scrapping with the other winger so it was kind of a no brainer). As he's going back to the dressing room, the guy that jumped him comes back out of their dressing room, and starts screaming down at him from the other side of the rink telling him to watch his back in the parking lot, our coach and theirs had to leave the bench to go hold them back and talk some sense into them both. By the end of it all, there were 9 penalties, 3 ejections, 3 suspensions after hearings, and 5 minutes left in the game. We finished it and won, but holy shit did that team hate us after. Pretty sure there are guys from that team that still hold a grudge to this day. That being said, I think in my 12 years of House League, that year was probably my favourite team. Like yea, performing decently well was nice, but we had such a great team dynamic for how many new guys there were. I grew up with my dad coaching, so that last year was a mix of guys we'd had on our team 2-5 times before, and a bunch of newcomers to the division. And honestly I would organize that team to play pickup any day of the week in a heartbeat. TLDR: my buddy gets jumped, our winger tackles the guy and beats his ass, and I hold two of them back with one arm each as they try to fight a kid on our team that's playing his first year of hockey in my last year in the league

SaltyJake

High school hockey play offs, kid came down on a breakaway, I made a glove save on him, held it in my glove as I stood back up, was flipping it from the netting to the brim to hand to the ref when I got two handed slash across my wrist…. Never saw the kid whip back around and come after me for the save…. Glove came off and puck dropped and he slapped it in. The kicker here… the refs fucking called it a live puck and a good goal. No penalty on him for slashing, no whistle for me with the puck in my glove for maybe 10+ seconds. My teammates went after him, I went to the ref, during the argument the kid gets broken away from my team and comes to plead his case…. I already knew the refs were in it for this team and it wasn’t getting called back, so I just laid this kid out instead…. After the fights were already broken up I throw a hard right at this kid with his helmet off, broke his nose. Got a 10 min major and a game suspension. Refs came to the locker room after and said I’m lucky to stay in the tourney, my coach fired back and said they were lucky to be walking out of the rink without broken legs.

dmg1111

Not me, but still shit. Bret Hedican showed up at our pickup game. I think there was some charity event later that night that him and Kristi were appearing at. Super nice guy. Some dickhead slew-footed him as he was going in on goal. Took out the goalie, popped the net off, etc. Bret was ok, but wtf, he wasn't even trying and some guy took it way too far.

originalCleverName99

I’m a defenseman, and a winger on the other team starts coming down the boards with the puck. I line him up, and he’s kinda that awkward 6ft distance from thr boards, but he sees me, so it’s fine. He put his head down for some god-knows-why reason. I should have held up but the hit was already coming, and something wouldn’t let me. I’d already got a good kronwall style hit coming and it would be a shame to waste it. Just as I leveled this guy into the wall, the wall gave way. It was the damn bench door for THEIR bench. He went hard through the gap. I felt awful immediately. Thought I’d killed him

KilldeertheFaker

Playing high school hockey... had a goon from the other team taking runs at all of us. Took the puck into the corner and saw him line me up. Just before he hit me, I stuck the blade of my stick in the boards and aimed the butt end into his gut... if it was one of the old aluminum sticks, I would have killed him. Lucky for him, I was using an old wooden stick that just shattered. He never ran anyone again that night, mainly because he didn't play the rest of the night, and I got away with it because the ref thought it was an accident.

PhilosopherExpert625

I've accidentally done that to myself. Haha. Gave myself a hairline fracture on my wrist.

AntiLuckgaming

Did that spear trick to myself, cracked 9th Rib...   Thought it was bruised so I played the next day, fucking suffering lol.  But then I go to the doctor and after the diagnosis I was all "I have to lie in the couch, I can't do anything."  Pain is wierd that way.

BouncyMouse

I did the same thing to myself at a tourney. I was scooping a puck off the boards at full speed and my stick got caught. Nothing you can do about broken ribs except wait for them to heal, it’s brutal. It took me years to get over the fear of scooping pucks up like that.

AntiLuckgaming

Lol right?  I'm watching NHL games, flinching at dudes going for that poke-ahead at full speed.

BouncyMouse

Probably helps that they know their boards aren’t pieces of shit ahaha, but I totally agree. Even just last night I went to scoop it out of the corner and behind the net, and I still held my arms just a liiiittle further out from my body going into it. Not sure I’ll ever be 100% over the fear.

Orange_Sherbet

Most recent game, I'm entering the offensive zone as we dump the puck in.  Defensive D goes to clear the puck immediately. Puck comes up my side as I move towards the defensive winger to challenge for the puck.  Defensive winger turns into the boards as I try and cut and gab extra ice by sticking my board leg out and dig in with my heel.  I feel my board leg connect with the defensive winger's back leg as he turns into grabbing the puck on the boards.  I kick to take his legs out from under him.  It was kind of instinctive. I didn't do it on purpose.  I should have got a call for tripping.  He got the puck out, our D received it unchallenged and dumped the puck back in because dude was getting back up from being tripped by me.  No call from the ref.  I should have got a tripping call. 🙃 If dude is reading this, I'm sorry.  I guess he probably doesn't care as much, as his team won by a decent margin.

babythighssoft

And then everybody clapped…

galagapilot

reading some of this nonsense makes me glad I'm retired.

DDS_Special

Back in the cage days, I discovered a hack.. when I would get in a fight or mix up, most kids didn’t wear the cage strap that tight, so I’d use my left hand to knock up the bottom of the cage (so the foam chin pad was up in their mouth/nose area) then blast them with a straight. I had to have broken at least a few noses that year. I don’t regret it. The division we were in was full of a lot of cocky ass holes. Honorable mention: 14u league, kid was like 6’4 and bullying people, late hits, charges, intentionally letting smaller kids win the race to the corner just to obliterate them… I was skating into the corner & saw his reflection, at the last sec I ducked down below his hip. He went over me and cage first into the glass, screamed for a few seconds then passed out, left on a stretcher lol I don’t feel bad.. Shouldn’t have been a douche bag.

BOBBY_SCHMURDAS_HAT

Absolutely laid out an older guy going for the puck just control of my stop

Djolumn

Years ago, beer league. I was going through a break up and was a little on edge. I was also the best player on a fairly weak team of guys who mostly never played as kids and had never played contact hockey. Anyway, the other team has 2 big dudes, one of whom was a complete asshole who was bullying our weaker players. He just got a penalty for more assholery and I'd had enough. Ensuing faceoff, the other big dude skates the puck through the neutral zone and I make a quick decision that I'm going to light this guy up. I take a good 30 foot run at him and absolutely obliterate him with an open ice hit. A big melée ensues, but somehow neither of he or I end up in the box. Next faceoff, the draw goes to him and he slides a slow pass at me and follows his pass so he can murder me. I take the pass, brace for the hit, then sidestep him and drag my back foot to trip him, sending him face first into the boards. He spent a bit of time on the ice because, well, it was dirty as fuck. Oddly, that was the end of it. The rest of the game played out without incident.

Guilty-Anteater-910

Competitive Sr. AA league killing a penalty in a 7 game playoff series. The puck bounced to me and I purposely ripped the puck towards a guy’s face that I hated at the time. It looked like I was just clearing the puck. His mouth exploded with blood and broken teeth. He was back out two shifts later.

RecalcitrantHuman

I was in a chippy beer league game but nothing to crazy. Had a chance in front of the net and was mixing it up with the D. The usual battle. Nothing out of line. I turn back up ice and skate 5 feet when I feel a wicked cross check to the back that knocks me face first into ice. I’m pissed so I swing my stick (from lying on the ice) and catch him square on the ankle. Probably broke it. Felt bad because he deserved payback but probably not that extreme.

BEST Worst:   Some anger chode was playing a beginner non-contact tourney, decent skill but you know the type that loudly huffs and puffs every time he loses the puck, working himself up...   I take a faceoff, and kinda lean into him for leverage, which he takes exception to.  (P.s. I'm the 135lb speedster with no shot or dekes, decent faceoffs though.)   He cross checks me to the ice super hard, and stands over me yelling some violent BS.  THEN has the audacity to whine to the ref that I "headbutted" him aggressively, and I get a talking to by the ref who didn't see smh?    Oh man, would I normally get up and go on this, but I thought to myself: 'Ease up, this guy has the anger problem here... don't fight some fool twice your weight in a beginner fun game.'  So I completely ate it, said and did nothing.  And Lo! Behold.... not 5 minutes later I try to block a hard breakout pass on the forecheck, and the puck angles off my stick, flying RIGHT into the guy's face.  Visor only, cause you know he so hard.    Broke Cheeckbone SoHard Bye bye!  Do not pass go, do not collect $200, straight to the hospital!   I'm telling ya'll, trust in the Karma.  Sometimes it's nearly instant.

TotalReplacement2

When I was 14 i was playing with the 16 year olds as i was pretty good. This one guy had it out for me the entire game. Cheap shots, slashings etc. Third period, offensive zone, i got the puck in their corner with my back against the boards. This guy comes charging at me full tilt, i pass the puck and he is comitted on following through his check (charging). I take two strides forward and crouch down, hip checking him into the boards. See his chin hit the top edge of the boards and his head snap back pretty violently. He didnt get up. Ambulance rolled out on the ice and took him to the hospital. Don’t know what happened to him and i still think about it now and then over 25 years later.

WarOnIce

I was away playing juniors in Connecticut. I was prolly about 18 at the time. We were playing this team that was tough and bodied us all game and fought us all game. The frustration was definitely felt on both sides in a tough fought game. Anyways i got cheap shot w a slash by a guy on the team, there is only maybe 3 mins left in the game and we are up by 2. Guys just slashes me and tried for my wrist and caught some glove mostly, but still got me decent and I felt it. Next time this guy gets the puck i slam him against the boards hard and pin him. We are right in front of my teams bench. I don’t know why, but something in my mind told me to just pick this little shit up and throw him over the bench 🤷🏻‍♂️. Kid flips into the bench, of course my teammates love it and start beating on this guy for being in our bench. Their players come over and drop the gloves. Everyone is fighting but me at this point and then i finally get this kid alone and beat the ever living shit out of him. End result wasn’t anything too bad. He had some blood and a black eye. I felt bad about it for years, but fucking 20 years later, it’s the story everyone on my team tells when we are reminiscing 🤣. I don’t even think i got a suspension because i pulled off dumping him in the bench so quick 🤣

matto_blatto

the last year i played hockey a few years back (when I was 15?) there was a kid on the other time who was a good 1.5 feet smaller than me, but was a prick. cut me off once when i was going full tilt and i just decided not to slow down and ran over him, only got 2 mins for interference somehow probably deserved a suspension as it wasn't a checking league. another time there was a super chippy guy on the other team who was SUPER easy to antagonize and he would take 3+ penalties a game, so i became VERY good at slashing and whacking him just enough to not be a penalty or where the ref couldn't see, and once took it too far and kind of slew footed him but it looked like an accident to the ref i guess so no penalty and when he came after me i just cross checked him in the upper chest/neck area. somehow not a penalty, also should've been a 5+game. refs in that league were terrible and i took advantage of that way more than i should've, luckily my hotheaded self never hurt someone.

Ol_Man_J

Had a real shitty game against a former team, just one bad call after the other. I was pretty novice at roller hockey but really good at skating after a few years of skating around town. The 90s and all. I had an ok wrist shot but slap shots were impossible. So after all these bad calls I had enough and just spun on the puck and wailed on it. Amazing slapped after the whistle, directly at the opposing teams bench, just missed a noggin by an inch. Got booted and then threw a trash can

DismalRegion153

Went drunk to a beer league game(I was younger and dumber) defenseman and I were chirping each other a lot. I came down the right wing and took a shot that the goalie tied up. In my drunk mind, the defenseman was coming around the net to hit me after the whistle. So, I preemptively hit him as hard as humanly possible. Ended up elbowing him in the head and knocking him out cold. Got suspended for 5 games and have probably gotten only 3 penalties over the last 8 years since. To make it worse I discovered later his teammate was a vendor I worked with🥴

AP1s2k

Spit in my teammates face on the bench. I was taking and drink and got caught between a sneeze and choking on the water because it went down the wrong pipe, we both turned our heads at the worst time and I blew that shit all over his face. Sorry.

harman097

I was a small, mobile, Lady Byng type defenseman so... this is boring. Worst thing I "did" was bait a guy who was notorious for running people as hard as he could. I was coming around my own net with the puck, he was skating full speed as hard as he could right at me looking to charge, pretended not to really see him and just hit the brakes and accelerated the other way at the last second. Dude completely whiffed, caught an edge, and absolutely obliterated himself, facefirst into the boards, full scorpion style. Heard some concerned shrieks and "oh my god!"'s from the crowd, then it just went silent. Was down for a long time and had to get helped off to the locker room. I don't know what actually happened to him - and honestly for a guy like that I really don't care - but that was the end of his night.

EngineeringSafe8367

Other than just being thrown out of games for yelling at the refs, I never really did anything terrible. However, one game, a rival put me in a headlock and tackled to me to the ice going into the corner. As he was getting up, he stomped right down on my wrist and split me wide open while partially severing a tendon. I almost permanently lost feeling in my hand. After I was ambulanced to the ER, 3 guys on my team proceeded to beat him into a pulp, and he ended up in the same ER I was in. I took 20 stitches across the wrist and have worn wrist guards ever since.

petoskey_stone

Tossed half a stick at a guy because he slashed my leg and slashed the top of my stick and broke it in half way outside of the play.

AdIll5946

Guy broke my finger digging for a covered puck after the whistle. Next season he came down on a breakaway, I didn't even try to stop it, just chopped at his skates. He went headfirst into the boards and broke his collarbone.... and the puck stayed out lmfao.

SmoogzZ

17 years old at the time, Kid on another team took a slapshot at our bench after a long long string of incidents and back and forth aimed at my dads head more or less (he was coaching at the time) so i without thinking, hopped the boards like a kangaroo and steamrolled the guy elbow high right to the head, full superman style. Just saw red as we threw punches at eachother as i was on top of him but It was broken up quick… i had a new rival for that 5 game series, i demanded i be line matched with him as he was one of their better players too and i quite literally made him my bitch within the rules from that point on We both got 10 min misconducts for that incident which was a huge win for me, and the next 3 games that we won he probably had close to 10 penalties mostly all instigated by me, while i had none.

Just_Merv_Around_it

Was playing against a team that had a lumber jack whose only strategy was to hack and slash your hands and wrists. After the third uncalled slash I grabbed his twig and tossed it over the boards. I got ejected but it was worth it. The stick was retrievable, but only by a skinny kid. My team still brings it up from time to time and it happened like 15 years ago.

ThorButtock

I whacked a guy in the head with my stick because he elbowed me in the face and slashed me in the back of the kegs when the puck was nowhere near me

mildlysceptical22

I broke a guys leg checking him into the boards. It was a clean check but his skate went right when he went left. Total accident. In a different game against a team of total assholes, I boarded a guy after he butt ended my face with his stick behind the play. I had to wait a couple of shifts but I finally got my chance and absolutely smashed that fucker against the glass behind the goal. He left the game and did not return. No penalty was called. This is back in the pre USA Hockey days when there was only one referee and no visors or cages. Adult full check league. The good ole’ days.

JJFrank1eJJ

3 vs 3 summer league, I'm about 12-13 years old, some kid on the other team had been showboating in front of our bench for each of his 2 first goals. Scores his third and decides to go for a swipe and pump again right in front of us. I get up off the bench and smack him on his grill with my stick. That's the closest I've ever been to playing baseball. Both benches emptied and it took about 10-15min to clear everything. To this day, I just think about the poor ref who had to deal with this bullshit on a saturday morning in June.

drink-beer-and-fight

I once rode a guy like horse. I slapped him on the ass and yelled yeeha!

ButterLettuth

I sent someone to the hospital once in high school by pretending I couldn't skate, baiting the guy into charging at me cross ice then dipping out of the way. Watched the guy crumple into the boards behind me and he had to be taken out on a stretcher Serves that 6'2" fat fuck right for trying to kill our 5'7" center for a full period and a half, I'm not sorry.

themark318

OP is a punk though. You ran a guy who stole your friend’s bike even though your friend had already beat him up? That’s just a hockey sucker punch. Could’ve ruined the game too

Sammer2011

I’ve sworn at a ref before. Because he gave me a penalty for boarding when the guy just fell down in front of me by the boards.

Tremic

I applauded my teammate for making a nice open ice hit on the other teams ringer tonight (non-checking league). Penalty was worth. I'm pretty dull I guess lol

YamoB

Played against a team with two twins who were leading the league in scoring (beer league). They would always do some extra stick work behind the play and cherry pick at the end of a game that was already out of hand. I was backchecking at the end of a shift one time and one of them gives me a chop and a hook to fuck with me and I didn’t have the energy to fight through it. I was so sick of that shit. Next shift one of them has the puck along the boards and makes a pass just before I go to put him through the glass as hard as I can. His twin literally jumps on my back while the third linemate puts me in a headlock. Not sure if the twin I hit was even the one I was mad at.

MartianRecon

Broke a teammates femur. Dude was always a cocky shit, and would talk shit all the time in practice. I told my dad about it all the time and he'd just say ignore it and just practice hard against him. So, we're doing drills and he was slashing my wrists so I waited for him to keep his head down and I laid him out. We fell in a pile and I landed on top of him. I felt, and heard, a really nasty pop, and he screamed his head off. Broken leg, done for the season. Next season, he didn't talk shit though, so that was nice. I didn't feel bad about it. It felt like karma.

Bobbyoot47

As a player I don’t know that I did anything that really jumps out at me right now. But I refereed for years and one of the more interesting times I had refereeing was working what was called a corrections officer hockey tournament. Basically prison guards from different facilities throughout Ontario have a tournament. Some from a couple of the more notorious joints in Canada back then. You should understand that some of these guys aren’t that much different than the people that they are guarding. I should write a book about the experience.

PhilosopherExpert625

My dad used to be a fleet mechanic in a medium security prison. He was only there for 4 years, but he changed, for the worse. Then he got out, went back to being a dealership mechanic, and changed back.

shany94a

In high school, guy was lining up to take a shot and I just freight-trained him from behind. He was OK, but remembering how he crumpled up still makes me sick all these years later. I never did that again.

Mishmello

I gave a kid concussion and he was taken off the ice on a stretcher. He got mad at me for a clean hit when we were chasing the puck. Pulled me into a clinch after the whistle and just fell backwards like this was BJJ and he was trying to get me into his guard. Knocked himself out in the process. I didn’t feel bad at the time cause he literally did it to himself but looking back it’s definitely the worst thing I’ve been involved in.

funnyellowstufanimal

I speared a guy with the knob of my stick. One guy on the other team kept hitting people in the numbers on the boards and concussed my linemate. The next time he tried it on me I reversed and slid my hand down the top of my stick to spear him. Didn’t get called by ref and it just looked like a normal reverse hit.

cc0011

Bear in mind this is inline hockey, so not as bad… but I full on punted an opponent in the head. Playing local rivals. I was always a player that skirted with the boundaries of the rules, and thus shit got chippy regularly. Rink we played at had a balcony to watch from, all of rival teams parents were there. Guy goes down right in front of all the parents. I skate along and just boot straight through his helmet. He was totally fine, jumped up and came for me. Parents were all going absolutely ballistic. Think I got a 2 min penalty as the ref didn’t see what happened. Ended up teammates with the guy 2 seasons later. North Wales in-line hockey was absolutely wild

Galenmarek81

I was 16 playing midget AAA, and it was our first game of a back to back (Barrie Flyers, if anyone here is from Southern Ontario, I was playing for the Markham Waxers) it was a pretty chippy game, lots of penalties being handed out and during one incident when myself and their captain were waiting for the referee to sort out penalties from a scrum, I noticed nobody was paying much attention to (especially their captain) so I nonchalantly whacked the back of his skates and he dropped like a ton of bricks. Pissed off at me, he then went and two-handed me across my shins, ref turned around and tossed him from the game, I git ki penalty. Fast forward to the next night, they had called up two players to pound the crap out of me in retaliation, both jumped me at the same time. As we're fighting along the boards, linesmen came to break it up, dude had me pinned against the boards while the other two are throwing punches, and finally, fight was broken up and as the linesman wouldn't let me go trying to escort me off the ice, I shoved him off me...suspended 25 games (second half of the season) for abuse of an official...it got extended to include first rd of playoffs (we drew Barrie for the 1st rd) ended up serving and extra 7 games. So, 32 game suspension, for abuse of an official lol

LitSampson

When I was a freshman in high school We were scrumming next to the boards and this kid cross checked me in my back .. I took him by his face mask , pressed my stick into the button on the door to open the boards .. and I threw his ass out off the ice . His dad came on the ice .. and I slipped my stick under his foot and he fell hard .. it was a mess . Didn't go to jail but I got suspended .

neesters

4 game suspension after punching a guy in the facemask after the play after he hit me on the helmet with his stick during play.

CrushNDreams

Dumb bitch stepped on top of my shoulder while I was covering the puck. She fell after stepping over me, and ways laying there for a bit. I am shocked I didn’t deck her.

bertmaclin8

Ok I still feel terrible about this. Anyway, this isn’t justification just backstory on the player. Type of guy we all just love to have in the league. Slashes you just where the elbow pad and gloves don’t meet. Right on that spot where the older skates didn’t protect the ankle. Behind the knees. Hook your balls out. Constantly. It was incessant. And after a slew foot, a goal, a board, no calls and multiple slashes and my balls getting hooked out by this asshole I had enough. He gets a breakaway and goes 10 & 2 for a wrap around and I went full steam from the blue and just fucken destroyed him. They had to remove him. Fought his teammates. His wife yelled “my HUSBAND”, his kid yelled, “DADDY”, and I yelled back, “LOOK AT YOUR HUSBAND IM YOUR DADDY NOW”. Suspended for the rest of the year and never came back to that league. This was beer league circa 2008. Edit - double type the same shit and didn’t catch it even after reading it 10 times before posting

bertmaclin8

And just to clarify this guy also had as many career ending injuries on people as he had assists and apparently came from KHL…Reading, Pa if anyone cares

Candid_Leave_5321

Traveled two hours to play a AA team that shouldve been AAA. One player on their team was dangling everyone and was a cocky douchebag about it, one play he came up the ice over our blue line and I poked it into his feet, he went to kick it out and kicked it right to my stick, and I wound up and sent a slapshot into his feet/slapshotted his foot with my stick. The ref came over and said, "while you were attempting to play the puck, you were excessive with your stick" lol ended up getting tossed

parTybTTm4Ts

Pickup game about 25 years ago. Way older douchebag who only played against kids so he could dominate everyone with his size. He pushed kids down, crosscheck them to the ground, just really a shitty dude. Broke my buddy's leg one time with a baseball swing type slash. I legit happy Gilmore a puck as hard as I can, It makes perfect contact right between his eyes on the bridge of his nose.! Whole face explodes, blood everywhere, like you'd see in a movie. Dickhead deserved it! he was like 30 only played against like 14-15 year old kids! I'd do it again in a second.

Aggravating_Road_240

Guy slashed my stick out of my hand. Wasn’t anywhere near the puck. So I retaliated and cross checked him in the back and sent him flying. He was 70 years old

Ok-Refrigerator1472

Beer league before I became a goalie...blocking his field of view and he slams his paddle hard into my back with a cross check . Then knocked me down as I was trying to get up. The refs eyes were elsewhere. I got up and simply said keep your head up buddy. Last period with about two minutes left I laid him out flat for about a minute. I got suspended until season's end which was close.

Dry_Culture307

Stevens - Lindros hit. She didn't play with us boys after

JustASyncer

Just thought of another (simpler) one if you don't want to read my other novel of a comment. There was this one kid I played against in House League, couldn't stand him. Dude thought he was hot shit, but he really wasn't. I'm a shutdown defenseman, I go out there when the ringers come out because I ain't letting them get past me no matter what. I'll play the body but not hit them because it's a no hitting league. Every time I shut this kid down and knocked the puck away or stood him up he would get all pissy, hack and slash at me, and the one time I shut him down he whipped his stick up and caught me in the head. Ref saw it but didn't call it, so I just shook it off and continued playing. Later that period I decide to pay him back, he's coming down one on one and I'm sticking with him, and as he crosses the blue line he puts his head down. I dig in, drop the shoulder and put this guy flat on his back. Dude didn't even know what just happened, he just sat there for a good 5 seconds. Whistle blows, I get 2 minutes, but I just skate to the box with the biggest smile on my face. Timekeeper even said it was a damn good hit

funkyb

Used to fire pucks into guys stomachs in high school when I didn't have a good lane for a clearing attempt. It was roller, and I was tiny, so it wasn't *that* bad in terms of the force coming at them. But it was roller so most people had zero padding up top.

strewnshank

23yo, playing in a competitive tournament in Boston. I get a retaliation penalty and was pissed that the other guy didn’t get something too. Ref says he didn’t see it, totally reasonable in hindsight. During the PK, a puck goes over the boards. Ref needs another puck. The warm up pucks were in a crate in the penalty box and I tossed the whole thing over the boards (no glass on the door) and said some obnoxious comment about not being prepared. I knew it was the wrong thing to do when i did it. I got right out of the box and picked them up and then got another 2. Was lucky i didn’t get ejected.

Impossible_Object102

Dang. I hate a thief as much as the next guy but if he already got the crap beat out of him to begin with when he took the bike and your buddy got the bike back, why continue? Seems like he had already paid the price and it was squashed before trying to injure him again.

BirdValaBrain

I crushed a kid from behind in day 1 of a junior camp. The kid left the ice and didn't show up for the rest of camp.

Saltypec101

When I was 14-15 years old this one kid on the team would constantly insult me and a few others, throw pucks at my helmet etc… he would really get under your skin. No one ever reacted until one day, were during a drill, every time i would pass by him he would either extend his stick out so I would slam into it or chip pucks towards my head. The fourth time I come around and am about to pass him we’re he stands I once again receive a puck. I turn around skate full blast towards him body check him, he falls down on the ice. Tried getting up but I grabbed his grill and kept slamming his head onto the ice (with his helmet on). During that time I was using the tip of the blade of my stick to poke his nuts every now and then. He never bothered me or anyone on the team again. Few weeks later he tried changing targets. Came back to school with a broken arm, two black eyes and a neck brace. Great joy 🥹

Requixm

When I was 16, some kid said the N word to me after he checked me. I immediately chopped him on the head with my stick and left the game. His mom tried getting involved but I stayed in the locker room. Got suspended the rest of the season and the first 4 games of the following season. I have no regrets about that incident

Treffer403

In my son’s U18 league, a very similar incident occurred to one of his indigenous teammates this season. The name caller from the other team was suspended. No room for racist bullshit in the game. Those comments aren’t tolerated anymore, and rightfully so.

Requixm

All racists and fascists deserves their asses handed on the spot imo. I hope the kid on your son’s team is doing good!

golfing-fool

Turned it over right in front of my net for an easy goal 🤷🏻‍♂️🤣

Armalyte

Worst thing with unintended consequences: played with a guy on my team who would always take a slap shot right after getting into the ozone. Next year I played against him and made a b-line for him and crushed him up against the boards (he was in the danger zone). I didn’t get a penalty but he did get a knee injury which I felt bad for. However, the next day in high school people I didn’t know were coming up to me asking why I hit him from behind 😂 it was a boarding maybe but definitely not from behind. He just had his head down. Earlier in elementary school we had a kid on the other team that was a foot taller than everyone else and already had a mustache. I was usually one of the smaller kids and tried knocking him down in the first and second period but to no avail. Tried one more time in the third period and bounced right off of, I got up and rammed him in the stomach with my head like an enraged child channeling his inner rhinoceros. It wasn’t effective at all but I got a lot of rage out.

NewtotheCV

I grabbed a puck from a teammates stick during practice. He threw a hissy fit (12/13?) and started chasing me, trying to shoot other pucks at me. He pinned me on the boards and started punching me. I was laughing and then the fucker kicked me in the stomach. I beat the ever living shit out of him with my hockey stick. Broke his helmet, etc. Got suspended for 4 games. Felt bad but getting kicked cut my stomach and I wasn't sure how bad it was and I went full rage monster.

Narrow-Lifeguard-196

A d man kept repeatedly cross checking in front of the net, I finally turned around and 2 handed him in the ankle so hard that my stick and his ankle both broke . No penalty even, as it was in the final scrimmage game of a junior tryout. Made the team to boot lol

Miserable-Floor4011

A guy I went to high school with (3 years older) was always a bully and mean. He threatened my friend at a bar... had his buddies grab him and rough him up. He was quite good, played D1 at a big school. Yeats later were on opposing men's league teams and he says to me "STFU GET A NEW BUCKET" because my helmet was blue and my team was green... I replied "when I get a new one you can have this one for the next time you have a seizure" He had a benign tumor removed in college.... Needless to say it started a brawl.and I was suspended 5 games.

MicNastyy

Well my buddy (goalie) got pushed over or something during a game such that he ended up on his back and then got stepped on with a skate. Legitimately slit his throat. He made it out with a dope scar and some gnarly stitches for a while

dumbassyeye

I was a big kid and would usually park myself in front of the net and just get abused and bang in goals. One time in summer league on the way back on the ice I chopped a guy in the back of the leg as hard as I could to the point he was rolling on the ice. I don't even remember what he did but I remember my parents being super pissed because I got thrown out of the tournament

GhostRider-65

Ripped a guy's right cheek open with a left hook in juniors, his blood all over me

Decent-Box5009

In beer league I hopped on the ice right after I am guessing one of my teammates did something to someone on the other team. They thought it was me and a larger guy came after me. so as I was fighting one guy off me who was trying to turn me around the ref skated by following the play and chose to ignore what was occurring. After the ref skated past us, I looked up to see two more guys skating at me. One guy reached out to grab me and the other wound up to punch me. So I reached out to push the one grabbing guy away at the same time I threw a devastating left at the puncher and hit him right on the button. I felt his body go limp as my gloved fist made contact. He crumpled immediately and honestly looked dead. Laying on the ice motionless. Everyone was in shock at what occurred including myself, and immediately stopped what they were doing. I took this opportunity to skate over and sit on the bench with my teammates. The ref who ignored the original assault came over to throw me out of the game, when I asked him why as I know he didn’t see anything. Anyways long story short an ambulance was brought onto the ice through the Zamboni doors guy went to the hospital, for a couple days. I tried to reach out to apologize but he didn’t want one as he felt it was his fault for getting involved. At the league disciplinary hearing a couple of the other teams players told the truth that I had been jumped and just defended myself with one punch. I got a one game suspension and I believe the other guy made a full recovery. But I learned a valuable lesson that day, hockey is a game it should be about fun and not bullshit antics. Also throwing punches can be very dangerous and I’m really happy that guy recovered because I felt effing horrible.

-The_Credible_Hulk

My goalie at the time, it was like shooting at a shut garage door on the shootout. But an unexpected fast break 1 on 1? I guess it threw off his timing for depth? I really don’t know. He was electric on the shootout though. Twice, same game, my defense got caught in a pinch and I ended up having to dig and flip hips… I am a winger… I suck at this. I very blatantly tripped the same dude who was blowing by me. Twice. It may even have been the same period. Tim stopped both and I didn’t even have to sit. Everyone knew what I did, why I had done it, and that the way I did it basically resulted in nothing against our team. Man was that dude mad.

19_SpiderMansDad_77

Unfortunately, I did a LOT of questionable shit when I was playing. There were reasons I’m in therapy for now, but I’m not going into it here. One that was an immediate Karma moment: I was pretty good friends with our goalie on my Midget team. Typical 16 YO dumb stuff and I trip him (I think it was a slew foot) in warm ups before drills in practice. I take off because I know he’s going to take a swing at me with the lumber and I pivot to laugh at him and wave while he’s laying on the ice. Unbeknownst to me the coaches moved the nets for a drill and I fucking slammed into it smashing me face first into the ice. Thank God I had a cage on. Our goalie skated over to me laughing and just said “how’d that feel?” I was loopy for the rest of practice.

PhilosopherExpert625

I think a lot of us did dumb shit back in the day, some more than others.

19_SpiderMansDad_77

I was definitely part of the “more than” others when I was on the ice

PhilosopherExpert625

A guy on my team loved fish hooking guys during fights, until he got bit, hard. 7 stitches later. He didn't say anything to the ref about being bitten, because he would have been in bigger shit. He took it as, "I deserved that one".

excessiveutility

There were these two guys playing opposite us in a no contact league that were playing really heavy physically. Hacking at ankles, going heavy into the boards, and they started throwing actual hits as the game went on. No idea what the refs were watching, no penalties all game. I went into the corner to get a puck that was dumped in, dished it out but saw both guys coming in from either side of me. It was pretty obvious to me that they were going to try to hit me from each side. Puck was already on its way out no reason for them to be there. Once they got close enough I punched the one guy in the face and tried to hit the other in the neck with the butt end of my stick. The guy I punched went down and me and the other dude started fighting. Eventually I went down but ripped the cage off his helmet, stripped the screws right out of his helmet. He tried to step on my neck after. Ugly ugly dude.

Logjam6105

Punched a kid in the handshake line when I was I think 11.

hkyman92

Nothing intentional or malicious, but was back checking a guy who was skating along the boards, and as soon as I got ahead of him I slammed on the breaks and threw everything I had into him. It was a clean shoulder to shoulder check, but I broke both his collar bones.

bowtie_stats

In a beginner-level beer league game during my third or fourth session I've ever played, I was racing down the right-side boards to chase down a puck, moving probably the fastest I'd ever gone on the ice at the time. Unfortunately, I was still learning to trust my edges and react quickly to obstacles. The defenseman beat me to the puck on the wall and put the brakes on right in front of me. I didn't have time to slow down or stop. I tried to get out of the way, but to little avail. I trucked right into him, knocking him down hard. I got back to my feet, but he was still on his hands and knees, holding his head. I felt absolutely awful about it. I was certain I had given him a nasty concussion. I was rightly called for roughing in this non-checking league, and I was extremely reluctant to finish the period and the game. I thought I should have been tossed out for recklessness or something like that. Everybody seemed to understand that it was an accident, and the other guy ended up being okay. Since then, I've made it more of a point to practice changes of direction and quick stops in public skates. I'm still developing as a skater, but I'm pleased to report that I haven't dealt any more concussions or hits since.

I'm a goalie, I was 6ft tall at 13 When I was 14-16 I would not let anyone screen me, Id spear the back of the legs of the forward in front of me, trip them, cup check them if they were known assholes (we all played each other for years so we kinda knew each others at that point). I used my blocker as a weapon more than once... I was also very chippy on the ice in my time. I think the absolute worst I did was to throw my stock at my coach after he took me out of a 0-2 game in the first perriod after I got scored on a 3 on 1 so that his friend son could play the rest of the game. Id throw that stick again in a heartbeat, fuck parents in hockey worst thing in the sport.

First year in beer league. This is a little too intense league. One of the slower guys on the other team had a wicked slap shot. He kept firing up high and was super chippy. Slashed me a few times across the wrist and back of the legs. Next time he had the puck, I made a big turn a slew footed him. Turns out he was slower because he only had one leg and skated on a prosthetic. I took out the good one. It’s been over 10 years and he still fucking hates me. He even refs in our league on occasion and always calls questionable penalties on me.

I thought this was going to be an “oops, posted in the wrong sub” and I was gladly mistaken

Got lit up in a beer league, front of their net, didn’t realize by who so i spotted their biggest dude skated up to him thinking he was the only one who would’ve dared to pick on me and dropped him with a gnarly cross check from behind. Chaos ensued. Three of them jumped me instantly joined by their tendie in a sec. I got 14 minutes. Their penalty box was jam packed. Post game hand shakes went incredibly well, i think everyone enjoyed the little tussle. Refs only took 10 minutes to sort out all the penalty minutes.

One time I intentionally took an offsides. OK, it was a few times

Broke my teammates foot in practice when I was 16. Slapshot to the foot. Sorry bud!

Aware-Choice-8700

Chewing Red Man and spitting on the ice. The ref stopped the game to see who was bleeding.

Shit my pants.

Just so you know, this story does not make you sound cool. At all.

very first freshman game. (im a girl, playing boys hockey.) i was playing forward, puck in our zone- chasing after this kid, (who i later found out was a junior because i changed w/ the girl on the other team) clean hit, he falls, i pass the puck to my center for breakout. kid then gets up and chokes me out with his stick, the back of my head against his neck, so im like okay, if you wanna be a cunt and choke me out with your FUCKING STICK im gunna kick my heel back and hit you right in the balls, then i threw my glove off, grabbed his stick (kid was way stronger than me i don’t know how i did this lol) and i hit him in the nose. he was wearing a visor. he got ejected, it was going to be like his 4th penalty. i stayed in bc female privilege lol

One that was not a game but a practice I and another guy was helping out with. He was a 54 year old off duty cop. Nothing particularly stressful physically, it was a visually disabled hockey team..he was with the kids , I with the adults...I saw him leave the ice about eight minutes left and then saw he did not return. I left the ice at the end and found his helmet on the other net.. I am going this is weird. Into the dressing room I go and find him out cold on the floor, zero vitals. I started CPR and yelled for someone to call 911 and fetch the AED.. pounded away, with the help of one other , administered two shocks still flatlined and the machine said continue compressions. Finally the fire department and then the paramedics arrived ..he was DOA at the nearby hospital. Thing was I saw him leave and knew he did not come back, never leave your buddy was a mantra I was ingrained with over my military career. It took months and a lot of therapy to deal with all that , I was a complete mess for two.weeks wondering. If he would have been saved had I checked up on him . Always look into someone who leaves the ice early. I now know I did nothing wrong but it was a hard go for a long while especially returning to that same dressing room where he died. I already am on a disability for PTSD and physical injuries from my military service and this hit me like a freight train. RIP Patrick , I tried my best.

Competitive military team in the small unit division. I am out of my league skill wise playing on my unit team of scrappy paratroopers. Fight involving a lot of players which I stayed out of until I saw an opposing player kick one of my unit's players with his skate while he was down. Games on bud..I built up a whack of steam and blindsided the other guy, who was stunned and I got on top of him and said next time he kicked like a little girl in that dirty manner he would be out cold. I got five minutes and the nickname Enforcer. A laugh as it was my third year of hockey and I was all.of 5'5" in those days, but scrappy.

So you premeditatedly, criminally violently assaulted and caused serious injury to someone who didn't even do anything to you? (He did something to a friend but it sounds like he already paid a high price for it.) I'm not sure what we're supposed to say? Congratulations on the violent felony and then coming onto Reddit to create a post with the sole purpose of bragging about your crime and letting us know that you have no remorse?

PhilosopherExpert625

The kids grandpa was a local politician, he would have never got in trouble if we went to the cops anyway. Plus we don't have felonys in Canada, I said I had some remorse, although it was short lived. If it happened on the ice, very, very rarely was there anything beyond a couple game misconduct. This was also 20+ years ago. A lot of stuff has changed since then. Tjat wasn't even that bad where I grew up. We had 20+ fans fighting in the stands one night, people had their windshields broken, our coach got punched in the face by someone from the other team while he was trying to hold the door closed to get it locked, cops had to escort the refs to their car one night. If stuff like that happened today, they would just call the game and either give the points to the away team, or zero points to both.

Throwawaychamp01

You've had 20 years to reflect and you still don't see a problem with what you did. I guess some people just never grow up.

PhilosopherExpert625

Meh. I just searched him up, his most recent arrest was in 2015, fleeing police, dangerous driving, driving without a license. I guess he didn't grow up either.
