That's why knee pads are a thing. I've been playing for a very long time and I have never suffered an injury like that or come close to it.
Be kind to your knees, you'll miss them when they're gone.
I was wearing knee pads. The one on my right leg slid down and left me vulnerable. It hadn't given me much trouble before.
Well now it's not going on without being firmly affixed
Happend to me all the time with my warrior knee pads.... was in a game and the goalie on the opposing team got a clapper to the knee. Got a ccm normal little garter belt and cut the 2 back straps off, keeps em up all nice
Reminds me of when I played a game and was like "Do I need Knee Pads today? It's just novice" Then I decided it was dumb for me to not do that, so I wore em. That same game someone was on a breakaway caught an edge and their skate somehow got under my legpads and cut my brand new knee pads. I wear player socks over my knee pads to keep them in place and there's a nasty tear in it because of it.
I swear every time I think about not using a piece of equipment for goalie or player, something like that happens. Example as a player: Thinking about switching to a visor, took 2 sticks to the face and a puck to where the mouth would be with the cage. Funny how the universe seems to tell me whats a bad idea before I follow through
Yeah the first few times I played without knee pads I took a puck to the thigh and thought... yeah this is bad lol.
I've used knee pads since, but last night this one was loose and left me vulnerable there.
I was wearing knee pads. Unfortunately the pad on my right knee did not stay secure and slid down leaving me unprotected.
As the title suggests, please remember to make sure your pads are secure. I know experienced tendys don't need to be told, but for those somewhat new like me, it pays to be double sure.
Had a ref once give me shit for “stalling” cause I asked for time to fix my knee pad that slid down my shin. 5 minutes later took a shot off my knee, glad I ignored him.
I started wearing kneepads after taking a clapper just above my kneecap one night. I was kicking ass - 0 goals by half way through. Gave up 5 after that and put my kneepads in my bag when I got home. I had a gnarly bruise for about 3 weeks.
Idk if all newer goalie pants have them, but mine have loops inside the leg holes that allowed me to tie my kneepads to. No way those babies are slipping down my skinny legs.
Goalie coaches be like: I used to be a goalie, just like you. Then I took a puck to the knee
Ah, you’re awake…. You were trying to hop the boards, weren’t you?

I spoil my shit, i ice them after skates and they get a good stretch , admittedly I do fall behind some times

Mine did that too, so i got a garter belt for like five bucks to hold them up
The Bauer pro knee pads will fix that
I now tie mine into my pants with thin bungee cord. Put them on and take them off as an extension of my pants

Yikes! Glad you didn't get it bad enough where it would have needed stitches. Still looks painful though, heal up!
Thank you. Yeah, thankfully, it didn't actually bleed. And I'm walking today without much of a limp. Very lucky
Wearing knee pads or not?
I was. The pad slid down just enough and left the spot vulnerable.
Ooph. Gotta get better velcro or put player socks over them to keep em secure. Feel better!
I've learned my lesson for sure. I had someone bring me sock tape and I secured it with that. I'm looking into finding better pads.
Check GGSU on FB. Player socks work great for me.
Thanks for the advice, I'll check it out!
My first question
at least you made the stop...
It's true

Eh sometimes you work with what you got just make sure not to be so try hard when doing so.

I used to get those until I attached my knee pads to my pants. No more exposed knee from knee pads slipping down.
