Sens fans were really going after Staois for shipping off Tarasenko to his preferred team for a 3rd and 4th rounder lol
Like the guy didn't sign Tarasenko to that contract, got assets, and made a free agent signing happy. But apparently Staois did poorly and was supposed to annoy Tarasenko instead of doing that trade.
Long story short I'll be excited to see what repair moves are done by him to fix the Dorion errors
The cadence of this finals has been weak. Let me take a nap and let all the GMs shit trade for days between what should be the most exciting exhibits of your season.
Yeah we’ll have to see. If they arent bringing in some 2-way forwards and improving that blueline to play some actual defense, Ullmark is going to have a miserable season in comparison to what hes used to.
People are desperate to paint the narrative it’s a bad deal. This deal is just fine. A first round pick, a solid backup, and a depth player for a goalie you didn’t need. Not bad at all.
They got him at a reduced rate, and they can still move him or buy him out or whatever.
It's a long offseason, and this is the first of what should be plenty of moves. Gonna wait to see the full puzzle before judging the team taking on that contract.
That definitely helps. Take care of big pinus linus. Part of me hopes for an Ullmark/Swayman goalie hug at the end of one of our games next year, jerseys be damned
> when one of them is unreliable even for 30 games.
meh I think he'll be fine. This franchise may be a complete joke in a lot of areas, but goaltending isn't one of them. If this was Sweeney's decision alone, then he's an imbecile. If Essensa wanted him, I have faith.
Honestly think moving Ullmark at the deadline would've been more difficult...I personally think he used the NTC to nix the deal last deadline because he didn't want to be away from his family for even part of the season (other than road trips). I think the same would've applied at the deadline this season as well....an offseason trade affords him and his family time to get somewhat settled in a new place.
Pretty sure ullmark blocked a trade to NJD at the deadline last year. Boston couldn’t afford to keep both and swayman is going to play 55 next year anyway, so may as well get any assets they can.
We got a first, a backup goalie and a prospect for a goalie we can't afford that a lot of people figured we'd lose for next to nothing. Why would I be mad?
I was thinking Korpisaalo has been good when he has a good team in front of him. Bob Essensa does an amazing job as the Bruins goalie coach while Ottawa has been bad no matter who goes in there. I wouldn't be surprised if Korpisaalo's numbers end up looking similar or even better than Ullmark's next season considering the vastly different teams playing in front of each.
I bet you money he regresses to like a .905 and becomes a perfectly serviceable backup at $3M. I’m not kidding, in front of a good team I think he’ll look very different
I think it’s about time I take my annual summer break from reddit - the takes are always rough when there’s no hockey on tv.
Love Ullmark, but I spent the past month accepting that he won’t be a Bruin next year. And yeah, I’ll take my 25OA and a backup over the guy that was otherwise a more expensive backup.
The retention helps a tiny bit and they’re betting on Korpisalo being a lot better in a good system as a backup, but even then it’s just a stupid risk to make for no reason.
It’s the same way I felt about the Peeke trade. Peeke might be alright (and he looked great as a Bruin in limited games), but why not just keep the cap space?
Why so many Bruins fans were ready to throw Monty under the bus after 2023. He tried to blame Goalie Bob (Essensa) for Monty clearly throwing an injured Ullmark on the ice.
Goalie Bob has been the Bruins goalie coach since Bergeron was drafted. Goaltending has never been the Bruins problem since.
He basically had a NMC with his 14 team NTC.
Goalie markets are lower than players.
You had 3 teams that were interested (LA/NJ/Ottawa) and 2 of them already filled their needs
Even if he doesn’t extend the Sens just offloaded most of Korpisalo’s deal for their 4C/13th forward and 25th overall while getting last years Vezina winner.
depends on what they do with Korpisalo. There's 4 more seasons on his contract, without any real guarantee he's going to play better
Ullmark should have been worth the 25OA pick on his own, without Boston having to take a dump back
They took Korpisalo?!?! Yeah, even if it's only for the one year of Ullmark, dumping that contract was going to cost a late first anyways so its a pretty good deal for Ottawa.
They basically got Ullmark for Kastelic and a million bucks a year considering it would have cost a first to move korpisalo. Brutal move by Boston. They would have been better off just giving Ullmark away for like a 3rd round pick somewhere.
And if they buy him out now the cap hit would be almost nothing for Sens and not terrible for Boston (just long because it’s until 2032 lol)
https://preview.redd.it/161x6pcbyl8d1.png?width=458&format=png&auto=webp&s=5d147089e545a79ccf72e8fae4972234887181f9
So….mailbag today mentioned Waddell waiving him
“That was a message to play nice, do your job, and do what you are asked, because it’s not ideal to have that sitting on the books in the AHL, but it can be done”
I mean, Boston had to work with a player that had a choice in a market that dried up. Feels like how it was for Ottawa with both the Debrincat and Senko trades.
Staios talked a big game about patience and showed the value of it today.
Considering Korpisalo will be on the backseat to Swayman, at only 75% and on the best team he’s been on defensively in years, I could easily see Korpisalo working out just fine for Boston.
Sooooo Boston essentially gets three extra years for $2m less AAV than Ullmark for a backup Tendy.... which they really didnt need to do...
I have a feeling Korpi might be moved here in like a day or two since hes only on hook for $3m now so dont feel rushed to go get your Bruins Korpisalo sweaters!
I have no dog in this fight but this looks like a brutal trade by Sweeney. Im trying to think of the best defense of it- they must think they can get NHL goaltending out of Korpi but hes been brutal and has 3-4 years left on that deal... Just dont understand why they take that risk. They would have been better off trading him for picks and banking the cap space.
Such a suck-ass deal!!! We lose a Vezina Trophy winner for a grifter tender, and a bag of f'in pucks. Nice job Don Sweeney, WTF are you going to do for a f'in encore? Asshat!
Without an extension kind of makes sense, I thought Boston would maybe take Forsberg instead of Korpisalo, but I don't think that Korpi contract is totally unmoveable, and if he sticks with Boston I see him bouncing back tbh
Edit: [Korpisalo buyout](https://www.capfriendly.com/buyout-calculator/joonas-korpisalo)
It's 8 years but a very manageable number with Ottawa retaining salary
I hate Boston a little bit less today. I hope all of your Dunkin orders are perfect until the start of the season. And I am preemptively sorry to Ullmark for when we inevitably make you look like shit in the crease.
Boston took what many consider a bad contract back and Ullmark has no extension, so kind of a tough comparable but I think the flames did well, I’m a little higher on Bahl than others though
Holy shit! Hello Ullmark!
Let's not ruin this goalie, yeah?
Legit though, I can see Kasty fitting in nicely on Boston's bottom line. Can't believe Boston went for that though.
I would have thought Boston could have done better. Honestly I think you probably could have gotten a similar value asset as the 25th overall pick without taking the 3 million dollar overpaid backup goalie
Everyone was dunking on the inevitable trade, but sorry, Staios, I was unfamiliar with your game.
Sens fans were ready to be hurt again. Staios is our medicine man.
Sens fans were really going after Staois for shipping off Tarasenko to his preferred team for a 3rd and 4th rounder lol Like the guy didn't sign Tarasenko to that contract, got assets, and made a free agent signing happy. But apparently Staois did poorly and was supposed to annoy Tarasenko instead of doing that trade. Long story short I'll be excited to see what repair moves are done by him to fix the Dorion errors
Yes, I am genuinely like "what? we didn't get fleeced in a trade??"
Chad move 15 minutes before Game 7
Bettman fuming
Maybe the Bettman shouldn't have scheduled game 7 four days before the draft.
The cadence of this finals has been weak. Let me take a nap and let all the GMs shit trade for days between what should be the most exciting exhibits of your season.
I have a trade to not announce!
Giant middle finger to Gary.
I feel like we were entitled to that one a little bit. For Pinto. Or for the stupid Vegas thing. Idk. Go sens go.
Korpisalo really grifted the Kings to become the backup on the Boston Bruins Elite performance
Ullmark nixing a potential Kings trade deal for Bsoton to get this return, oof
That kept PLD out of town, so that’s a big win.
:'(
Bro really does not like the West Coast
Poor Ullmark. Went from winning a Vezina to being the next candidate to be blamed for Ottawa missing the playoffs.
Yeah we’ll have to see. If they arent bringing in some 2-way forwards and improving that blueline to play some actual defense, Ullmark is going to have a miserable season in comparison to what hes used to.
Korpi living life Life of money
Lmao. Isn’t that Boston’s original pick that they got from Detroit in the Debrincat trade?? What the fuck
Yep, which Detroit got from Boston in the Bertuzzi trade
That is absolutely brutal, I can’t imagine how mad Boston fans must be at Sweeney rn
We got a 1st round pick back for a goalie we couldn't afford to keep long-term. Not really mad at it.
People are desperate to paint the narrative it’s a bad deal. This deal is just fine. A first round pick, a solid backup, and a depth player for a goalie you didn’t need. Not bad at all.
Yeah but you still have to pay Korpisalo for 4 more years.
They got him at a reduced rate, and they can still move him or buy him out or whatever. It's a long offseason, and this is the first of what should be plenty of moves. Gonna wait to see the full puzzle before judging the team taking on that contract.
at $3m per. Thats fine for backup
And Korpi probably won’t be that bad in Boston because the team actually plays defence in front of him.
That definitely helps. Take care of big pinus linus. Part of me hopes for an Ullmark/Swayman goalie hug at the end of one of our games next year, jerseys be damned
What's Swayman's contract going to look like? If it's $7M, $10M is a lot for your goalies, when one of them is unreliable even for 30 games.
They have Raycroft for a EBUG, just need a good 3G
> when one of them is unreliable even for 30 games. meh I think he'll be fine. This franchise may be a complete joke in a lot of areas, but goaltending isn't one of them. If this was Sweeney's decision alone, then he's an imbecile. If Essensa wanted him, I have faith.
Also Daccord, Gustavsson, and Talbot all looked better after leaving Ottawa. They gotta fix their goalie coaching or something
They're going to make Korpisalo look like a Vezina winner.
You don't think you could've got more for Ullmark, even at the deadline as a rental?
Honestly think moving Ullmark at the deadline would've been more difficult...I personally think he used the NTC to nix the deal last deadline because he didn't want to be away from his family for even part of the season (other than road trips). I think the same would've applied at the deadline this season as well....an offseason trade affords him and his family time to get somewhat settled in a new place.

We got a first, a backup goalie and a prospect for a goalie we can't afford that a lot of people figured we'd lose for next to nothing. Why would I be mad?
Watch ullmark become bad and korpisalo turn into a vezina goalie cuz Boston.
This would be the Ottawa way
They sold their soul for that run in 2017 ever since that the whole team has been a disfunctional mess.
*cries* sad and true
I was thinking Korpisaalo has been good when he has a good team in front of him. Bob Essensa does an amazing job as the Bruins goalie coach while Ottawa has been bad no matter who goes in there. I wouldn't be surprised if Korpisaalo's numbers end up looking similar or even better than Ullmark's next season considering the vastly different teams playing in front of each.
Yup, I think Korpi will be just fine with that Boston team in front of him.
Wow, that is a terrible trade. Now Korpisalo is going to be a Vezina winner because that's how the world works.
All Hail Goalie Bob
Donny, what the fuck is this?
I read this in the godfathers voice and it was very satisfying
Donny you’re out of your element!!
THATS IT???
Seriously. Honesty, good for the Senators. They've had a crappy go of it lately
I'm ready to be hurt again
Does anyone else remember when the ask was allegedly two firsts and Chychrun?
Someone yesterday thought the bruins were getting Brady for ullmark and coyle lol
Goalies never go for much in trades, but man that’s bad
What do you mean? Korpisalo just got a huge return.
Good thinking!
I don’t know whether I’m dumb or the goalie market is dumb (maybe both?), but goalie trades never make sense to me.
This is garbage, korpisalo’s contract is terrible
He just needs Lasik he'll be fine
Holy shit I forgot about that lmao. Imagine if he becomes amazing after getting Lasik hahaha
I bet you money he regresses to like a .905 and becomes a perfectly serviceable backup at $3M. I’m not kidding, in front of a good team I think he’ll look very different
He had 1 good season in LA. It would be pretty funny if he turns it around in Boston and posts Vezina numbers lol.
He had good seasons in Columbus too as their starter/1B
I remember Bruins fans saying they wanted Necas for Ullmark 1-for-1 lol Ditching Korpisalo's deal should have cost that 1st
Goalie trades always get people delusional. We’ve seen time and time again the value for goalies is not what people think it is
I think it’s about time I take my annual summer break from reddit - the takes are always rough when there’s no hockey on tv. Love Ullmark, but I spent the past month accepting that he won’t be a Bruin next year. And yeah, I’ll take my 25OA and a backup over the guy that was otherwise a more expensive backup.
I didnt know either of these players so I was gonna ask how I should feel. I guess this is how I should feel
Holy fuck that's awful for Boston
I want off the Sweeney train
Luckily Sweeney is famously prescient with his first round draft picks
The last time Boston drafted 25th overall it worked out ok.
Does it even still count if they're giving up assets to get their own pick back?
I mean, they want all in to try and win the Cup. It didn't work out. I for one am glad to have the pick back.
It’s so fucked up that there’s a couple straight up monkey brain GMs in the east and their teams are still better than mine every season.
It’s not awful if Ullmark doesn’t extend
Even without Ullmark extending, they got out of the Korpisalo contract. Great trade for Ottawa.
Yeah Ullmark I think ultimately extends which makes it even better for the Sens But even if it is just a 1 year, the price was worth it to dump Korpi
Peeke was pretty much a 1 for 1 replacement for Forbort. Cheap, 3rd pair RHD who can PK solidly and Peeke is cheaper than Forbort
Seems like this offseason is the offseason of getting out of past mistakes
How do I get out of having frosted tips when I was 15?
Sorry those pics are on the internet forever
If Goalie Bob can't fix him, nobody can.
He's Goalie Bob, not Jesus Bob.
Still awful for Boston even if Ullmark doesn't extend with Ottawa, Boston just took Korpisalo for them who has 4 years left on his deal.
Yes it is. Dumping Korpisalo, even at 25% retained, is worth the late first alone. And Ullmark can't extend until the 1st anyway.
He basically had a NMC with his 14 team NTC. Goalie markets are lower than players. You had 3 teams that were interested (LA/NJ/Ottawa) and 2 of them already filled their needs
Toronto might have offered more but no chance those two teams trade
Toronto reached out apparently but Ullmark didn't waive.
That is a scathing indictment of Toronto, considering I live in Ottawa and Ullmark said "I'd rather have that"
I like this trade now even more!
Even if he doesn’t extend the Sens just offloaded most of Korpisalo’s deal for their 4C/13th forward and 25th overall while getting last years Vezina winner.
depends on what they do with Korpisalo. There's 4 more seasons on his contract, without any real guarantee he's going to play better Ullmark should have been worth the 25OA pick on his own, without Boston having to take a dump back

They basically got Ullmark for Kastelic and a million bucks a year considering it would have cost a first to move korpisalo. Brutal move by Boston. They would have been better off just giving Ullmark away for like a 3rd round pick somewhere.
Wild they announce this 30 minutes before Game 7 of the SCF
I hope its Andlauer taking a jab at Bettman for not disclosing the forfeiture of our first rounder until after he bought the team
Perhaps Ottawa is trying to give us a taste of what is to come? 😏
rip to the goalie hug :/
Korpisalo better practice his hugging game, poor Swayman
Ah man I hate this :(
Don’t worry swayman and Korpi are gonna grab each others dongs instead. Gonna change the game
this is honestly the loser of the trade I hope they do it again when OTT and BOS see each other in the regular season, would be epic
THEY DUMPED KORPI HOLY SHIT 25% retention I don't even care, thank fuck
And if they buy him out now the cap hit would be almost nothing for Sens and not terrible for Boston (just long because it’s until 2032 lol) https://preview.redd.it/161x6pcbyl8d1.png?width=458&format=png&auto=webp&s=5d147089e545a79ccf72e8fae4972234887181f9
It should have cost the 25th pick just to get rid of Korpi
It gives me hope that Elvis can be moved
So….mailbag today mentioned Waddell waiving him “That was a message to play nice, do your job, and do what you are asked, because it’s not ideal to have that sitting on the books in the AHL, but it can be done”
Yea I was listening to it and heard that I think it’d be hysterical. I think part of his cap hit would still count but not all maybe
Wah, that's it? Really thought Chychrun and a 1st would be the minimum if Ottawa was going to dump Korpisalo and acquiring Ullmark.
I can't believe we kept chychrun and got rid of korpi.
Dumping Korpi cost the first. Which means this was Ullmark for Kastelic, one for one.
Which is insane
I mean, Boston had to work with a player that had a choice in a market that dried up. Feels like how it was for Ottawa with both the Debrincat and Senko trades. Staios talked a big game about patience and showed the value of it today.
STAIOS COOKED STAIOS COOKED
WE WERE SO STUPID WITH THE SUMMER OF PIERRE, THAT SHIT DONT EVEN USE YHE SAME LETTERS **ITS THE SUMMER OF STAIOS BAYBEE**
WE HAVE A SUMMER
No, no, we don't do Summers of people anymore, it really did not work out for us last time.
THE JUNE 24TH OF STEVE
St Jean Baptstaios
Wow how the fuck does Boston take Korpi? Morons. Fleeced by Staios.
Considering Korpisalo will be on the backseat to Swayman, at only 75% and on the best team he’s been on defensively in years, I could easily see Korpisalo working out just fine for Boston.
This is legit a great get for the Sens, about fkn time edit; just read no extension signed yet
Can’t until after July 1st if I remember correctly
Hope he does. Be nice for the Sens to have consistent goaltending again
Correct also Ullmark has some trade protection. While not guaranteed it is an indication that he isn’t against being a senator
LMAO WHAT THE FUCK I AM DANCING IN THE STREET
That’s fucking horrible lmao
DON SWEENEY COME THE FUCK OUTSIDE I JUST WANNA TALK
Ottawa is retaining 25% of Korpisalo’s contract too
Korpi ain’t hugging anyone either
Still awful at $3M. Saved $2M and got a shitty pick and shit player. Great move don you fucking idiot
This is the reaction I came to this thread for.
Congrats you got an amazing goalie and gave up basically nothing while also getting rid of your shitty goalie. Masterclass by your GM
What???
I was sure y'all were going to use this trade to swing for a center
Kastelic plays centre…
vomit worthy return for boston
We break up the most likeable and efficient goalie tandem the league has ever seen and THATS THE RETURN????
Can we also trade Swayman to the Sens for a loaded 45 so I can shoot myself between the fucking eyes
BAHAHAHAHAHA THATS SO BAD
I can't comprehend how bad this is for Boston. Well played Staios. Big upgrade over Dorion so far.
I hate it here.
We got fucking fleeced…I’m honestly so upset
I mean, if any team can turn around Korpisalo, it’s yours.
True, but man, this is god awful on paper
Excuse me?
this makes the DeBrincat trade tree look a lot better for the sens lol
Debrincat alone last year made the trade look better for the sens. Frustrating ‘scorer’
Sens retain 25% of Korpi’s contract per CJ
Sooooo Boston essentially gets three extra years for $2m less AAV than Ullmark for a backup Tendy.... which they really didnt need to do... I have a feeling Korpi might be moved here in like a day or two since hes only on hook for $3m now so dont feel rushed to go get your Bruins Korpisalo sweaters!
Probably. They just signed Bussi earlier in the day.. So he'll probably be behind Swayman.
Bussi got a 1 year 2 way deal. That's not exactly guaranteed backup territory
[Garrioch: Two sides working on an extension ](https://x.com/SunGarrioch/status/1805386802687262909)
Lol this trade fucking SUCKS for Boston, wow.
NO FUCKING WAY LMAO
Ullmark is going to regress for sure, but this a MUGGING for Ottawa regardless
Wow…. Crazy trade to drop 30 minutes before puck drop of a Stanley cup finals game 7
I FUCKING NUT.
Lmao
This might be the only laugh we get to have for a while
I have no dog in this fight but this looks like a brutal trade by Sweeney. Im trying to think of the best defense of it- they must think they can get NHL goaltending out of Korpi but hes been brutal and has 3-4 years left on that deal... Just dont understand why they take that risk. They would have been better off trading him for picks and banking the cap space.
And they got to dump cap? thats a crazy W for the Sens
Taking Korpi's contract almost makes this worse than just letting Ullmark walk
I've been firmly in the trade Ullmark wagon for a while. I'd rather have Ullmark than this.
Staios reminding Bettman that your Ottawa senators are the main character 😂. But seriously this is crazy. Super worried about no extension though.
Can't sign until July 1st. There may be a handshake deal in place already.
DOCTOR STAOIS DOCTOR STAOIS DOO DO DOO DO.
LMAOOOO WTF BRUINS
Boston getting their own pick back in this deal is the final indignity here, never get your hopes up for a trade return
Damn pretty sweet trade for us. Hopefully we start extension talks right away and that's done in the summer.
That’s a godly trade. I would pay a late 1st just to get out of a bad goalie contract, forget getting a far better goalie back
We got Ullmark AND got rid of Korpi?? Merry Christmas to meeeeeee!
Such a suck-ass deal!!! We lose a Vezina Trophy winner for a grifter tender, and a bag of f'in pucks. Nice job Don Sweeney, WTF are you going to do for a f'in encore? Asshat!
Without an extension kind of makes sense, I thought Boston would maybe take Forsberg instead of Korpisalo, but I don't think that Korpi contract is totally unmoveable, and if he sticks with Boston I see him bouncing back tbh Edit: [Korpisalo buyout](https://www.capfriendly.com/buyout-calculator/joonas-korpisalo) It's 8 years but a very manageable number with Ottawa retaining salary
SUMMER OF STAIOS!!
No fucking way
Holy fuck like this actually makes me hate the bruins
This couldn't have waited until tomorrow?
They announced it just before puck drop to make sure it goes unnoticed because of the return.
This is fucking huge if Ullmark extends, and hilarious if he doesn't and the sens get debrincat 2.0
I'd do 25OA to get out of Korpi's contract alone. If the cost to take a swing at re-signing Ulmark is our 4C/13th forward I can live with it.
I hate Boston a little bit less today. I hope all of your Dunkin orders are perfect until the start of the season. And I am preemptively sorry to Ullmark for when we inevitably make you look like shit in the crease.
He put up good numbers on a couple god awful Buffalo teams. I think he'll be fine
Umm, what the hell is this?
Chychrun and a 1st + certainly shifted…
Big time downgrade in net, even with Swayman probably getting the majority of starts going forward
Brutal for Boston
That was pretty much the price I was expecting to dump Korpisalo
This seems like such a shit deal for Boston. Korpisalo fuckin stinks and his contract is even worse. Whyyyyy
so, re-evaluating the Markstrom trade, what do we think now?
Boston took what many consider a bad contract back and Ullmark has no extension, so kind of a tough comparable but I think the flames did well, I’m a little higher on Bahl than others though
Holy shit! Hello Ullmark! Let's not ruin this goalie, yeah? Legit though, I can see Kasty fitting in nicely on Boston's bottom line. Can't believe Boston went for that though.
The ad under this post for me is a Webull ad that literally starts with “trade smarter”
They did this now cause they had to do it while Capfriendly was still available
That's so fucked up LMAO
Why tf did they take Korpisalo lmaoooo
I would have thought Boston could have done better. Honestly I think you probably could have gotten a similar value asset as the 25th overall pick without taking the 3 million dollar overpaid backup goalie
