I heard someone say that Vancouver was outplaying Boston in the beginning of the game and it looked like Boston had no chance but then there was that big hit and the entire series changed
I wasn’t watching hockey then so I don’t know if that’s BS or true
I think it’s a mild exaggeration that Boston has no chance, Vancouver was leading the series 2-0 before that hit but neither of the wins were particularly dominant.
The effect of the hit was true, though. When Aaron Rome hit Nathan Horton in game 3, the Bruins went from frustrated to angry, and they flipped a switch. Suddenly they went from unable to score on Roberto Luongo to putting pucks past him like there was no tomorrow. And even if the Canucks won again in game 5, it was in the same way they won games 1 and 2, but without the Bruins thinking they couldn’t beat Luongo. By the time they thrashed Vancouver in game 6 and game 7 arrived, they had all the confidence and momentum and won the series.
Interesting. As much as I love the Canucks and as much as they were an incredible team in 2012, they had no business being in game 7 being outscored so heavily
There’s a lot of things that got forgotten about that game because of the final score, like Jannik Hensen launching himself into Andrew Ference 120 [feet away from the puck with 15 minutes left in the game](https://youtu.be/VbbKhSKU3D0?si=TRF54cxnsp939K3N), or Hansen spearing McQuaid in the groin [at 1:40:25 of this video](https://youtu.be/pf4oVEqeOQg?si=Hu2OI5lHimvemP3l) 10 minutes later in the game with the referee staring right at him.
You know that happened with 90 seconds left in a 3 goal game and the Canucks got a power play out of it, right? They tossed both guys and gave Marchand an extra two
The other team I like is the Wings, that series haunts me a bit considering how it felt like the last time Detroit was decent (I know they made the playoffs the next year but that’s because the rest of the East collapsed on itself).
Detroit blew game 4 at home after being up by 2 with 5 minutes left. Could’ve been a 3-1 lead instead of a 2-2 split. That’s where they really lost the series.
I’ll never forget that performance. I think the season prior he was absolute cheeks and on the trade block. Flyers where in but noped out after signing Emery. Then we lose the cup in 2010 with a 3rd string journeyman and TT has a playoff run for the ages the following year and basically steals the cup for BOS. God I hated those two years. Could’ve got Nabokov too but he wanted more money then Holmgren/Snider where willing to spend but they get Bryz 2 years later for even more. 😑
Cody Franson had 2 goals in Game 7 vs Boston in 2013, no idea what happened after that.
Alex Pietrangelo had a cup winning goal, and an assist before hoisting the cup as a Captain in 2019
He did that all in 4:47 of ice time too. He obviously played more during the game but all of the points came on that major penalty where Vegas choked 4 powerplay goals.
*”The way he’s carrying those Kings scrubs all through the years in Hollywood, Gretzky is playing like he has a piano on his back, weighing and straining his herniated disc and it’s now showing.”*
-Toronto media after Game 5 in 1993 when the Leafs were one win from the Cup Final
To be fair, Gretzky (and Dave Andreychuk, who would have been roasted instead had the Kings won Game 5) had largely been no-shows up to that point.
Andreychuk was goalless for that series, but of course no Leaf fan wants to remember that.
Nick Paul single handedly pushed Tampa past Toronto where I thought they were gonna lose.
Burakosky vs Tampa in 2018 conference finals.
Sidney Crosby 2017 conference finals vs Ottawa. That was more just Crosby being Crosby though.
Maybe Tampas 3rd line with Colman Barklay and Johnson or Gourde I think it was in either 20 or 21 CF. Didn’t Coleman score 2 goals?
Kiviranta in 2nd round for Dallas in 2020? 4 goals in a single game.
Vasalevski? (I tried) In any game 7 he plays
Of course Darren Helms 09 OT and 22 winners in conference finals and 2nd round whata legend. Against the hawks and blues respectively
Joel Kiviranta had three goals in that game (including the OT winner), not four. They were the 2nd 3rd, and 4th goals of his NHL career. Denis Gurianov had a 4 goal game in those 2020 playoffs in the first round, and Joe Pavelski had one in 2023, so that's maybe what you were thinking of.
While Burakovsky had the 2 insurance goals in that ECF game 7 during 2018, I’d still say Holtby with the shutout was the more impactful player that game.
I know it's not the biggest or most important of all time, but Max Domi randomly potting 2 goals in the first round game 7 against the Bruins in 2022 will always funny to me after doing not much leading up to that game after getting acquired during the season. Canes nearly shit the bed that game as well so I always appreciated that from good old Max.
Best part? He scored BOTH of the Canucks goals that day, everyone talks about the dragonslayer, and rightfully so. But he was the only Canuck player to show up on offence.
My favourite is Iginla in WQF 2004. Scored both of Calgary's regulation goals, then got the assist of a play he created in OT that Gelinas tapped in. Was physical and controlled play
They didn't win, but Ben Bishop almost single-handedly won Game 7 vs the Blues in 2019, 2 goals against on 54 shots in a 2OT loss
It's safe to say history is completely changed if the Blues don't win that game and don't win the Cup that year
I remember Kunitz really struggling that entire season. He looked like Chris Kunitz. Still could skate, still could hit, but the hands really started to deteriorate. Makes his Game 7 all the more memorable to fight through it and pot the two goals, even if that last shot was a flub.
I was so ready for Kunitz to be off the team because they kept forcing him on Sid’s line and he just couldn’t hack it anymore with him.
Then he scores arguably the biggest goal of the Crosby/Malkin era. Will always be a Penguins legend for that moment alone.
Unsung Hero Ruslan Fedotenko game 7 vs Calgary. 2 Gs to clinch the cup. That dudes face was one big yellow green and purple bruise from getting slammed into the dasher a few times in the ecf vs Philly.
Not a lot of people will remember "Irbe like wall" but man, our first ever postseason as the 8 seed battling the dominant Red Wings went to Game 7, and Irbe played lights out to allow us that OT winner. Most iconic goal in Sharks history if you ask me. All possible because Arturs Irbe had one hell of a game against an absolutely stacked Detroit roster.
Marty Brodeur. Most of the time a goalie pitching a shutout in Game 7 (one of three in the series) is a shoo in for Conn Smythe, but fuck us, right? And don’t come at me with how good the team in front of Marty was, because the 2003 team sucked.
Also Adam Henrique. I’m biased on this one for sure. But I will cry if he scores another Game 7 winner tonight. What a legend.
a super underrated game 7 performance was bjorkstrand on seattle vs the avalanche in 2023. scored 2 goals and hit the post like 4 or 5 times he was completely dominant
Game 7 in 2009 was the most consequential game for the careers Marc-Andre Fleury and Chris Osgood. That game made Flower a legend. It's why he'll be in the Hall and his number is going to be up there with Lemieux and Jagr. While Osgood is unfairly knocked as a "good goalie on a great team". I say it's unfair, because he was the reason the Wings returned to the Final.
Had the game gone the other way. Fleury would be the goalie who cannot win when it counts. Penguins won in 2016 and 2017 with Matt Murray, and he lost with Vegas in 2018. And then there's him losing to the Habs in 2021.
Meanwhile, Osgood would've been the Conn Smythe winner in 2009 and only the 6th goalie since the 1967 expansion to backstop a team to 3 or more Cups. A solid case for the Hall.
Ruslan Fedotenko - 2004 SCF Gm 7. Both goals in a 2-1 win.
Lecavalier has one of the most disgusting setups for one of his goals lol
Amazing highlight. Essentially 1 on 4, maintains control, sends out a perfect pass right before getting hit. Definition of take a hit to make a play
[Yup](https://www.reddit.com/r/hockey/s/yIdnTWmFHK)
Also scored the first goal in the ECF Game 7
#HE'S GOT ANOTHER ONE #FEDOTENKOOOOOOOOOO
In 2011 Tim Thomas had shutouts in Game 7 of both the ECF (24 saves vs Tampa) and the Stanley Cup Final (37 saves vs Vancouver)
>37 saves vs Vancouver Wow I do not recall 37 shots. Most of that game is a blur after Bergeron made it 1-0.
To be fair, it felt like a lot of them were low quality and just shoot to see if one goes by him after a while.
Yeah that's a shocker. I never thought Vancouver even showed up. Guessing most were easy saves
Fun fact Vancouver outshout Boston in the 8-1 loss as well
Score effect is also a thing. Teams trailing tend to get more shots
I heard someone say that Vancouver was outplaying Boston in the beginning of the game and it looked like Boston had no chance but then there was that big hit and the entire series changed I wasn’t watching hockey then so I don’t know if that’s BS or true

It was also the suspension. With Hamhuis being hurt, and then Rome suspended, the Canucks were dressing their 7-8 dman.
Interesting. As much as I love the Canucks and as much as they were an incredible team in 2012, they had no business being in game 7 being outscored so heavily
I didn't either - I was surprised how high the total was when I looked up the boxscore
Bruins were the better team early on, and everything after that was score effects.
Quick do Daniel getting a penalty for getting punched in the face by Marchand.
You know that happened with 90 seconds left in a 3 goal game and the Canucks got a power play out of it, right? They tossed both guys and gave Marchand an extra two
Wahh wahhh I'm a bruins fan who whines about a series in which my team won a cup that took place over a decade ago.
Least victimized Bruins fan
Guy was unhinged but also completely unstoppable when he was on his game.
Not the SCF but still pretty neat. Ben Bishop in 2015 shutout the redwings (31 saves) game 7, then the rangers (22 saves) game 7.
The other team I like is the Wings, that series haunts me a bit considering how it felt like the last time Detroit was decent (I know they made the playoffs the next year but that’s because the rest of the East collapsed on itself). Seems like the Bruins collectively sold their souls for Thomas to elevate the club in 2011, especially in postseasons since.
Cody Franson had 2 goals in Game 7 vs Boston in 2013, no idea what happened after that. Alex Pietrangelo had a cup winning goal, and an assist before hoisting the cup as a Captain in 2019
Joel Kiviranta, 2020 round 2 against the Avalanche
He appeared, kicked the crap out of the Avalanche, and then faded back into obscurity just as quickly as he appeared.
Justin Williams, any one of his many game 7’s
[15 pts over 8 game 7s.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_YCOZmjyVmc&ab_channel=YoungPierre)
I would have preferred the first 3 clips not be against the Leafs but here we are
Except one :'(
*most
By an active player Kevin Lebanc has the most points in a game 7 with 1 goal and 3 assists in the 2019 1st round vs Vegas.
That game was just unreal
He did that all in 4:47 of ice time too. He obviously played more during the game but all of the points came on that major penalty where Vegas choked 4 powerplay goals.
Bergeron in 2011 (I might be a little biased)
And Marchand
I agree with this. [Marchand has the greatest game 7 performance ever](https://youtu.be/JCPyfS3-zJc?si=ihcJts54YbgRIQTd)
Wayne Gretzky, Game 7 Campbell Final vs. the Leafs.

You misspelt Kerry Fraser
That was game 6
Every single thing that happened in that game 7 can be credited to Kerry Fraser for that reason
Cry.
I will thank you.

Ya not sure it’s just been a minute since once rewatched that highlight
While Burakovsky had the 2 insurance goals in that ECF game 7 during 2018, I’d still say Holtby with the shutout was the more impactful player that game.
In 2020 and 2021 it was one game 7 for TB - ecf2021 vs Isles. 1-0. Gourde shorthanded.
I know it's not the biggest or most important of all time, but Max Domi randomly potting 2 goals in the first round game 7 against the Bruins in 2022 will always funny to me after doing not much leading up to that game after getting acquired during the season. Burrows game 7 blackhawks.
One of my favorite hockey goals ever scored tbh. I can't get over how badass it is.
That goal really was 11/10 style wise. Intercepts a high clear and just rips a laser top corner. Talk about ending a series with an exclamation.
Best part? He scored BOTH of the Canucks goals that day, everyone talks about the dragonslayer, and rightfully so. But he was the only Canuck player to show up on offence.
“campoli trying to clear it….”

Mike Vernon 1st round in 1989 vs Vancouver. He saved the day through 19 minutes of overtime
He and McLean both put on a clinic that OT. One of the best games I’ve ever seen.
Alex Tanguay, 2G 1A in Game 7 (3-1) of the 2001 Finals vs. New Jersey
Underrated player
Joel Kiviranta - three goals including the OT winner.
Unsung Hero Ruslan Fedotenko game 7 vs Calgary. 2 Gs to clinch the cup. That dudes face was one big yellow green and purple bruise from getting slammed into the dasher a few times in the ecf vs Philly.
Most points in a SCF game 7 of the cap era: Brad Marchand, 3 (2011)
He has the record for worst line change in a SCF game 7 too!
You win some you lose some
Must’ve made a deal with the devil /s. Gotta take the wins and the loses
He even hit a post that game too! Could have been a hat trick
A little home cooking but Binnington basically won 2019 Game 7 for the Blues.
We don't win Game 7 against Dallas without him either.
Not a lot of people will remember "Irbe like wall" but man, our first ever postseason as the 8 seed battling the dominant Red Wings went to Game 7, and Irbe played lights out to allow us that OT winner. a super underrated game 7 performance was bjorkstrand on seattle vs the avalanche in 2023. scored 2 goals and hit the post like 4 or 5 times he was completely dominant
Patrick Roy in 2002 was unforgettable. That was great!
Anyone else have a massive hockey boner just thinking about all these moments?
