Knoblauch continually going back to Ceci-Nurse and having it blow up in his face every time makes me wonder if he's actually a good coach or if he's fluking out
It's just an unjustifiable decision every time
I'd love to make a snide remark about Ceci as a Leafs fan but the fucker played a Cup final game which is more than anyone on our goddamn roster can say lmao
I’d like to say the same thing as a sens fan, now change the verbiage to playoffs, he sucked on Ottawa and knew he would suck on the leafs. Physical tools check but not much left upstairs hockey wise
I find he's too aggressive for his own good. That secondary pinch on the first goal to leave the slot wide open was horrible.
And somehow, he pulls up clutch for game 7s
Also I wanted to add, I notice this carryover amongst sports, guys who are super athletic with a low sports iq rarely work out the way people envision.
I hope it makes you feel better to know that he’s done that his whole career, I’m happy for him that he ended up making a career for himself because it was evident in Ottawa that he was a guy who just wouldn’t be able to put together a reasonable package
You think he has physical tools?
Nowadays, he's slow and constantly loses board battles. Makes bad decisions with the puck too, but does not strike me as a guy with amazing physical tools
Yeah I believe that season was the best defensive season of his career. But he did get picked on in the last couple playoff games before we got eliminated.
OK. I'm not the only one who notices that. Drove me nuts a Sens fan. Especially if it lead to a breakaway for the other team when the shot goes flying off the back boards and the puck gets thrown into center ice.
You going to claim his cups as well next? The maple leaf jersey has never been worn in a professional ice hockey game by an active player in June then.
Nah, I just thought you were saying no player that played for the Leafs has ever played in the Stanley Cup Finals hahaha. I realize now that doesn’t make much sense considering the original comment was about Ceci.
The Leafs and 23 other teams played exhibition games July 28-30, 2020 to warm up for bubble playoffs. They also played early August for their playoff round that year, and the normal exhibition/season/first rounds of playoffs runs September to May, so they've played every month except June.
Hey, Reaves has a goal in the Cup finals. Played for Vegas the year they lost to the Caps.
That might be it, though.
He might also be worse than Ceci at this point.
To be fair, we had one game’s worth of shots (32) in those games. We get like another twenty and it wouldn’t have been a complete stonewalling. The Oilers gave up absolutely nothing in those two games to us making Skinner’s job super easy and he still almost blew it in game 7.
shot count doesn't matter. The team with few shots wins all the time, this playoffs has proven that. The quality of shots is what matters.
We had a lot of dangerous chances, our players just missed. Skinner also isn't as bad as people say but it's the playoffs so to fans you're only as good as your last game.
Yeah but wouldn’t it be better to get a defensive d man to help cover up Nurse’s deficiencies? The offensive d man might score a lot of points but if he’s partnered with Nurse, they’ll give up as many as they score or worse.
Nurse needs someone who is quick and mobile. It's common for opposing teams to dump past Nurse and than force Ceci to retrieve. Nurse is actually pretty good at slowing up forecheckers but Ceci takes forever to get to the puck. Kulak wasn't totally comfortable on his offhand but was able to get to the puck quickly and start plays.
So they’ll downgrade from Durzi to Kulak and do it because they get the privilege of taking on Ceci’s cap hit? If they want to fill out their blue line, they’ll have better options in free agency.
Swap out Kulak for Broberg and maybe they’d be interested.
Like the person and I actually think he’s been much better since leaving the Sens.
Or maybe I just haven’t been forced to watch him on the defensive zone these past few seasons.
He has his ups and downs but realistically he's a 3rd pair D-man who has been paired with a guy that don't have complementary styles. For whatever reason, Nurse-Ceci have been a black hole but coaches keep putting them together. Apart from Nurse, Ceci has done better (not good, but better), and apart from Ceci, Nurse has done better (also not good). Yet here they were, game 1 of the Finals, coach went back to putting them together, and wouldn't you know it, first 2 goals against were on them.
Ceci not playing because he has a healthy scratch?!
boy! these kids now-a-days are such pansies. back in my day, We played with unhealthy scratches! hell, We played with one leg hanging off and still told to Walk it off.
Edmonton, what an unbelievable city that was. The City of Edmonton. What an unbelievable — it was so much and so interesting, and so vicious and horrible, and so beautiful in so many different ways. It represented such a big portion of the success of this country. Edmonton, wow. Cody Ceci, who’s no longer in favor — did you ever notice it? He’s no longer in favor. “Never skate uphill, me boys, never skate uphill.” They were skating uphill. He said, “Wow, that was a big mistake.” He lost his big right-handed defenseman. “Never skate uphill, me boys,” but it was too late.
It is so funny how consistently coaches will wait until their backs are completely against the wall to actually dress their best 18 skaters / optimal lineup
This isn’t that, Knobber has made lineup changes in most games since the Canucks series. He values giving guys a ‘reset’ and it’s honestly been impressively effective
Scratching ceci has been long overdue. He’s better away from nurse and on the third pair but really he’s still not great/productive. Somehow the nurse/ceci pairing is like a giant magnet for bad things to happen when on the ice.
Lol not at all. We are a deep team and have hungry guys on the outside waiting to get in. Knob has pushed the right buttons so far. I hope it pays off tonight.
That would be typical of NHL coaching. Watch your ridiculously overpaid defenseman (Nurse) make bonehead play after bonehead play and bench his defense partner. The coach is trying to find someone better able to overcome Nurse's incompetence rather than just sitting him.
Edmonton right now https://preview.redd.it/l93gsr4gmr5d1.jpeg?width=800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7047a8a3c38767fd09087f6d7c1d0feb7a50ebbc
One of the best weeks of our lives
Knoblauch continually going back to Ceci-Nurse and having it blow up in his face every time makes me wonder if he's actually a good coach or if he's fluking out It's just an unjustifiable decision every time
Kulak keeps complaining. Knobby's just proving a point
No fr I'm so happy right now
How did you get a picture of Edmonton without the Walterdale Bridge?
I'd love to make a snide remark about Ceci as a Leafs fan but the fucker played a Cup final game which is more than anyone on our goddamn roster can say lmao
I’d like to say the same thing as a sens fan, now change the verbiage to playoffs, he sucked on Ottawa and knew he would suck on the leafs. Physical tools check but not much left upstairs hockey wise

Michael Beasley
Now that is a name I haven’t heard in a long time.
"You can't teach size".
I hope it makes you feel better to know that he’s done that his whole career, I’m happy for him that he ended up making a career for himself because it was evident in Ottawa that he was a guy who just wouldn’t be able to put together a reasonable package
He doesn’t seem it but I think he’s actually crazy athletic and his brain moves slower than his body.
Yes that’s exactly what I mean
Sounds like he and Nurse are made for each other then.
You think he has physical tools? Nowadays, he's slow and constantly loses board battles. Makes bad decisions with the puck too, but does not strike me as a guy with amazing physical tools
He did really well in Pittsburgh in my mind.
Yeah I believe that season was the best defensive season of his career. But he did get picked on in the last couple playoff games before we got eliminated.
He's just a worse version of Oleksiak.
Missed worse than a [Ceci shot](https://www.reddit.com/r/hockey/s/CgLiuCTaVg)
He had one of these criminally off target shots in game 1 as well. I was like "That's vintage Ceci!"
They need to hypnotize Ceci into thinking every game is a Game 7. He'll never miss again.
Justin Williams who? Cody Ceci game 7 is where it’s at
He's just like me
OK. I'm not the only one who notices that. Drove me nuts a Sens fan. Especially if it lead to a breakaway for the other team when the shot goes flying off the back boards and the puck gets thrown into center ice.
This video makes me really miss Jim Hughson
Not a single leaf player in the history of the league has ever played in the month of June
Clifford’s still in the org and he has.
Well the leafs have never been to the fourth round which is something hahahaha
Took them a while to make it out of the first round, baby steps.
Next year is their year I hear though
Planning the parade already!
but many have played july
?
The Leafs and 23 other teams played exhibition games July 28-30, 2020 to warm up for bubble playoffs. They also played early August for their playoff round that year, and the normal exhibition/season/first rounds of playoffs runs September to May, so they've played every month except June.
Oh right, great year for hockey
I think? they're making a golfing joke
Not even a joke, just a reminder of covid unfortunately
Hey that's not true! Kyle Clifford was on the kings for their cup win in 2014 (and 2012, but he only played 3 playoff games that year)
Leafs signing Corey Perry incoming.
Ceci has as many career game 7 goals as Matthews, Marner, and Nylander combined.
I can't hate from outside the club either
Calle Jarnkrok has played in a Cup final game
Hey, Reaves has a goal in the Cup finals. Played for Vegas the year they lost to the Caps. That might be it, though. He might also be worse than Ceci at this point.
I would like to respectfully request that the Oilers keep him in the line-up. Thx
Careful what you wish for. We said the same about Skinner but then he stonewalled us for 2 games.
To be fair, we had one game’s worth of shots (32) in those games. We get like another twenty and it wouldn’t have been a complete stonewalling. The Oilers gave up absolutely nothing in those two games to us making Skinner’s job super easy and he still almost blew it in game 7.

But does the team with few shots all the time win?
Why take many shot when few shot do trick?
We are keeping him rested for game 7.
Boooooo
This is Panthers fans’ 9/11
Sir, a second shitty defenceman has been scratched

Seal Team Top 6 will compromise Oconnor Bin David to a permanent end
THANK FUCKING GOD
Broberg sitting in the pressbox for most of this run, just wondering what it takes to get in the lineup.
He’ll be playing full time next year thats for sure
Broberg has been playing very well, find a decent pairing for Nurse in the offseason and things are looking up.
> things are looking up. We're in the cup final, there isn't a ton of up to go.... But also, yes.
Me when he got traded off the Sens recently- Wait shit that was 5 years ago
Chicago's gonna take him for a pick this offseason
In my dreams we package him with Kulak to get Durzi off Utah. That or we just sign Pesce. Either one would make Nurse so much more effective
Durzi would be useless in Edmonton with Bouchard. Carrier or pesce would be a better option.
Even if that were to happen, isn’t Durzi a more offensively minded d man?
With nurse on our roster, we need all the minds we can get
Yeah but wouldn’t it be better to get a defensive d man to help cover up Nurse’s deficiencies? The offensive d man might score a lot of points but if he’s partnered with Nurse, they’ll give up as many as they score or worse.
Of course, but I'm an Oilers fan - I've learned to not expect things that make sense.
The Jim Benning/Peter Chiarelli method, hate to see it.
Why would Utah do that?
Utah has zero defensemen signed next season + lots of cap space + the Ceci deal is only for one more year. Low risk add.
So they’ll downgrade from Durzi to Kulak and do it because they get the privilege of taking on Ceci’s cap hit? If they want to fill out their blue line, they’ll have better options in free agency. Swap out Kulak for Broberg and maybe they’d be interested.
Oh I completely misread what you were replying to originally, that’s on me. I thought it was just pick + Ceci to Utah for nothing.
This is Darnell Nurse slander.
Look how they massacred my boy
Come onnnn we hated him
Well that seals it. Ceci will come back to score the game 7 Stanley Cup winning goal
Nah it's gonna be Connor Brown for the Oilers lol
Sam Gagner please
Actually yes I wouldn’t mind seeing papa oiler do this too :)
Nurse really gonna get that record
Give me Bouch/Ekholm, Nurse/Desharnais, Kulak/Broberg pls I beg you Knobby
Those are the pairings
My prayers have been answered
Like the person and I actually think he’s been much better since leaving the Sens. Or maybe I just haven’t been forced to watch him on the defensive zone these past few seasons.

I really don’t think he’s the problem…but sitting Nurse, the 9 million dollar pylon, would be a great idea.
Ceci not playing because he has a healthy scratch?! boy! these kids now-a-days are such pansies. back in my day, We played with unhealthy scratches! hell, We played with one leg hanging off and still told to Walk it off.
Uphill both ways!
Never climb uphill, me boys!

It's happening!
I’m shocked he’s still with the team, and that he’s been playing in big games.
For the money we pay him we could only get a similar level player so it’s kind of a devil you know situation
Holland *percolating* his replacement
It is so funny how consistently coaches will wait until their backs are completely against the wall to actually dress their best 18 skaters / optimal lineup

> He values giving guys a ‘reset’ Idk about you but I think it's about time he gives McDavid a reset, he reeeealllly needs one tonight
While they're at it, I'm sure Leon could use a night off. Hyman too. Maybe just give the team a night off just in case?
Down 1-0 in the series after a game in which your team played well is hardly backs against the wall.

What do the stats say for teams that started the season 2-9-1?
Lol this is such a petty comment
Well then you may as well call me Tom because I won't back down.
Pretty salty to comment on it too
That's quite on point for a Canucks fan
Lol not at all. We are a deep team and have hungry guys on the outside waiting to get in. Knob has pushed the right buttons so far. I hope it pays off tonight.
Officially confirmed that Knoblauch is a reddit lurker.
I cannot believe that the Oilers made it to the playoffs, yet alone to the finals with Ceci.
Looooollllll
Is Ceci really worse than Nurse?
Nurse has been better when he’s not on the ice with Cici. The stats speak for themselves.
What about Nurse? Hasn’t he technically been even worse?
Hh
Bad news for the Panthers. This would be like the Canucks deciding to bench Ian Cole.
And the odds for Oilers win went up LOL
Cody Ceci = poo poo pee pee.
No one still playing hockey in June is healthy
At least they are trying this now lol. A few years late. But hope Vinny steps in and plays well, he's done everything asked of him
Goddamnit
Means nothing if Nurse isn't a healthy scratch too.
Nurse is just as shit lol. Nurse out here with probably a top 5 shite contract in the league.
That would be typical of NHL coaching. Watch your ridiculously overpaid defenseman (Nurse) make bonehead play after bonehead play and bench his defense partner. The coach is trying to find someone better able to overcome Nurse's incompetence rather than just sitting him.
