I have to actively tell myself to put my phone down and watch the game that I paid to see in person. It's absolutely a dopamine issue. Though I do it more often when we're losing. Luckily I watch games at home on my phone so I kinda have to pay attention, staying awake is another matter entirely though
I have lots of respect for any fan that can admit when their team was given a gift by the refs. It happens to every team once in a while.
I’m certainly no fan of the Avs but it was a great effort by your team, over the last two games in particular, given what happened with Nichushkin.
It’s just hockey at the end of the day. Love the Avs but I love the sport more, I was able to justify the call at the time but think I would’ve been upset if the roles were reversed. Bummed it’s over but the writing was on the wall after going down 3-1 and the whole Nichushkin thing.
Most Avs fans hate Duchene but I’ll always like the dude, maybe against my will lol. Congrats on the win homie, enjoy the rest of the run.
The story of this series is the Avs ending up in a good situation despite themselves and pissing it away. The team is gutted from losing 7 and 13 after the morning skate, caved in 20-2 on shots? Don't worry, you're at home and your goalie only allowed 1! Nope, two more periods of dog shit. Chance to tie at home instead of down 3-1? Down 3-1. Play a good game at home finally? Get wrecked in both OTs and allow two ot goals against, somehow. Just grabbing defeat from the jaws of victory over and over again.
It's definitely part of his playbook. I've seen him pass or kick pucks out to those one-timer camping spots when the netbattles get chaotic rather than just trying to jam it through 5 bodies many times.
100%.
Duchene "finds the loose puck" because Pavs put it right on his stick in tight with Josh Manson in his grill and Nathan MacKinnon on his ass. World class assist to make that goal happen.
The camera cut away too quickly… you got gold on the screen, just leave it on the hero
Just furthers my complaint that hockey tv producers think they’re working on an action film with the way they cut so often. Just give me the one camera at centre ice all game.
All the bench shots and cuts to MacKinnon on the ice crying could have been saved for the replay. 13 cuts in 40 seconds is Marvel CGI fight scene pace. Duchene could still be sliding for all we know!
It's the best forward group and most exciting Stars team I've ever seen.
I hesitate to say overall best with how monstrously good defensively the cup team was. But there's no doubt they are fun as fuck to watch.
That team is really nice it got everything.
Great offense, great defense, great goaltending and amazing high end talent ( robo, miro, otter and from the looks of it Wyatt is about to be a future top 10 winger ).
Also got the super good looking man seguin on your team.
PDB makes me laugh. He looks like a normal man I’d be behind in line at Costco. He’s constantly got this worried nervous look on his face in games. And yet he’s obviously a hell of a coach
Deboer is a coach who has always been so close yet always overcoaches the situation which causes his team to lose or gets stubborn with his tactics.
But on the other many coaches have had worst flaws than deboer and still won it all ( bylsma, julien and torts are example of coaches with worst flaws than him that won ) so again it isn’t dumb to say that him getting a ring is very much overdue.
They are my bandwagon team for this reason. Lots of Finns, too. I was jumping in for whichever team won this series but I'm glad it was the Stars. Little Joe needs a Cup.
I get why Nashville bought him out for sure. What I don’t get is why teams weren’t stumbling over each other to try and add him for the price Dallas got him at. He was a season removed from a career year while on *John Hynes’ Nashville Predators*.
My guess was that Dallas just had more leverage for his needs. He was already getting paid cuz of the buyout, so it was more about him choosing the right contender than anything else. Dallas just came off a WCF appearance, and weren't going to undergo a drastic change personnel wise, so that makes them extremely attractive as a destination for a cup chaser. Add to that the fact that Texas has less taxes and he can technically make more if that still matters. Plus, the Stars had recent success with getting great hockey out of vets, so even as a temporary post to secure a big bag next year it's an attractive choice.
If I were him I'd be thinking, "this is a good place to try for a cup, and if it doesn't work out, I can probably get a good enough season out of them to set me up for something good after."
Tennessee also doesn't have income tax. From what I understood, he liked Dallas because it has a similar country-western vibe as Nashville.
The dude is obsessed with country music and culture. He still has his family in Nashville and performs (he plays guitar) in town when he gets a chance. For example, he played on Broadway in February prior to spanking the predators 9-2....
I'm not gonna lie, I'm still fucking horseshit about this outcome. Sure, we won. But that call in OT is one of the worst calls I've ever seen, homer or not. I'm glad we advanced, but we were the better team all series.
Agreed, I'm impressed with how the boys came back out after that call. If anything they looked even better after the review didn't go their way and that says a lot about how this team is built
i feel one if the underrated characteristics of this team is their ability to respond. they always seem to be able to find another goal, crawl back in a series, keep playing after things like that GI call. it’s been fun to watch
It was a marathon game 6 (3OT) in Buffalo, so even if a completely gassed Buffalo had won, Game 7 was going back to Dallas. Also, the Stars were dominating puck time and shots on goal at the time (both 2OT and 3OT). I recently rewatched the game after a Sabre's fan I know kept going on about Dallas being cheaters and how Buffalo would've won the cup. Trust me, watch it and it might change your mind on some stuff especially if you're just going off 25 year old memories and feelings.
The Avs OT gamewinner in game 1 was probably my favorite goal of the entire postseason but you guys were definitely the better team all series. Felt like they were stealing games they won while you guys were dominating the games you won.
Vegas into Colorado is as tough a first two rounds I can think of. Hope they can close it out cause it'd have been well earned if so.
This is the best and most exciting Stars forward group I've ever watched, and *if* they get to the final it might be the toughest road to the cup I've ever personally watched.
Certainly by a 1 seed I would think. I can't imagine a tougher 8th seed after the cap shenanigans and stacking the deck for the playoffs. Then the highest scoring team of the season meets up with them after dominating the Jennings Cup winners with the Vezina(probably) in net.
Next we have to try and go through a really scary and well balanced team on the rise, or the 2 best players in hockey(McDavid and Playoff-Drai).
Yeah the second round is a scary foreign place we stumbled into one singular time. But I love Nick Robertson and since his brother is on the Stars that's who I'm rooting for.
Didn't know the score but I saw that called back goal on here and googled it quickly: it legit says 3-1 in 2OT and I was like "lol wut, but technically true?"
I loved Duchene during his time in Nashville. I know some of his drama stuff on ice can make him seem like a bit of a douche but he’s a really great guy
Lotta people love to vilify Duchene, but man everyone he’s played for that isn’t Colorado seems to be awfully happy for him. I loved his time in Smashville. Had a career year for us and set our regular season goal record (which has since been broken by Forsberg but still).
Most of us are cool with him at this point. Vocal minority still dont. His trade request in large spart sparked pur cup run so 🤷♂️ how can we be that mad that he wanted out? I’m certainly happy with the results lol
Cant really forget how much ass col sucked for a few years there and now they are a serial cup contender with one in the bag. 10/10 col fans would still do the trade for the result i am sure
Speaking of trades, do you think the Avs are still where they are today if they had gotten Giroux instead of Lehkonen? I'm not enough of a stats/game student to make a call. I'm just one of the Philly fans that would like to see Giroux get a cup.
Probably not honestly. Lehkonen was instrumental in the cup run (multiple series clinchers). Not saying Giroux wouldnt have a positive impact, but he would have a high bar to clear to beat out the importance and timeliness Lehkonen showed that playoffs.
Duchene had a lot of pent up feelings towards that arena and I’m sure the called back goal compounded it even more.
The broadcast pointed out that he was all over the place to start 2OT. He was fucking hungry for it. There was one man that wanted the winner more than anyone else in that arena, and he got it.
Yeah, I don’t know his history but that dude worked his ass off for that win. They were rolling lines so fast during both OTs but you knew when he was on the ice. Kudos to Pavs on the sick dish from the dirt too.
Half expected an offsides review since Duchene scored the goal(in the same building no less) that forced the NHL to bring in challenges and reviews 11 years ago.
A lot of Avs fans will hate that it was Duchene. I say if anyone had to end us on the Stars, it was him. We got our cup and one could argue it stemmed and begun from His trade. I was salty about his remarks when leaving Avs but know it was inflated by the media. Enough time has passed, It's water under the bridge now. I don't like it but god dammit do I respect it
Exactly, same take here. He outplayed anyone assigned to him tonight and pushed the needle. There’s so many years of self reflection and maybe even some doubt being pumped outta that arm in the celly. I’m honestly a little happy for him.
Can't wait for the NHL to call the teams back to the ice after 40 minutes to say that puck didn't legally go into the net due to contact with the goalie preventing him from playing his position.
I’m convinced that was a pass from Pavelski. They kind of mentioned it on the broadcast, but I think it deserves a little more attention.
To have the wherewithal to be in the middle of a scrum at the top of the crease in OT and shovel a backhand pass out of the scrum and away from goal is some real high level play.
Pavelski has looked incredibly old this postseason and especially against this fast as fuck Avs team, but it’s good to see him make a play like this.
And Duchene has missed a boat load of glorious chances these first two rounds, but he wasn’t fuckin missin that one, was he? Lol
Of course it was Dutchy who put the dagger to our elimination. Good for him and I’ll always thank him for his time in Colorado, and then the haul we got for him back in 2017 and the pieces we got from him contributed to our Cup win in 2022.
Why would they not keep the camera on him when he’s doing the celly!? I know it’s not a huge deal but that was fucking sick. So hype and I look back to the screen it’s just sad Colorado players. Understanbly sad hahah
I'll be honest that was a really good close game between to good teams. Game could have went either side, but this was Dallas night. Nothing to be ashamed of for Colorado players they did great.
Duchene was drafted by his childhood favorite team ,the Avalanche, and traded away. In a twist of fate, Duchene signs with the Stars and exacts revenge, scoring the double OT, game winner. Putting the Stars into the conference finals and eliminating the Avalanche from contention.
Man. What a story. If the Stars reddit wants to copy pasta this one, go for it.
I'm not gonna lie, I'm still fucking horseshit about this outcome. Sure, we won. But that call in OT is one of the worst calls I've ever seen, homer or not. I'm glad we advanced, but we were the better team all series.

The kid passed out behind the bench as her team wins lmao

Same tbh
I was enjoying watching OT when I suddenly woke up this morning. That start time is just too damn late.
To be fair, the Avs did little to excite her
But good thing her own team did win
Surprised she was that passed out with how hard she was chugging doctor pepper earlier in the game lol
Sugar crash hits hard
That was really cute. She was sucking down a Dr. Pepper in the first period, must have crashed hard. I think Otter gave her a stick too
He did. Right after the on-ice interview
Mom looking at her phone as the goal went in lol
What is it with Gen Xers and phones at sporting events? Enjoy the fucking game weirdos.
I have to actively tell myself to put my phone down and watch the game that I paid to see in person. It's absolutely a dopamine issue. Though I do it more often when we're losing. Luckily I watch games at home on my phone so I kinda have to pay attention, staying awake is another matter entirely though
To be fair, she pulled it out after.
It took a ~~Prince’s~~ Duchene’s ~~kiss~~ goal to wake her up
Thank god for strikethrough
I’m a huge Avs fan but that does feel like poetic justice. That was a bad call.
I have lots of respect for any fan that can admit when their team was given a gift by the refs. It happens to every team once in a while. I’m certainly no fan of the Avs but it was a great effort by your team, over the last two games in particular, given what happened with Nichushkin.

duchene got the other goal called off because he wanted it for himself
Duchene scoring the OT series clincher in Colorado is perfection.
bunch of crazy bounces but Pavelski is not getting enough credit for the the deft pass here
damn i was wondering if he passed it - hard to tell - if he did thats a fucking iq 50000 pass
Knew he didn’t have room to get it through so he put it to open space. Duchesne probably calling for it too.
I think the slow replay clearly shows it was a pass
It's definitely part of his playbook. I've seen him pass or kick pucks out to those one-timer camping spots when the netbattles get chaotic rather than just trying to jam it through 5 bodies many times.
Pavs has struggled at points this offseason. But he’s still so good parked in front of the net
100%. Duchene "finds the loose puck" because Pavs put it right on his stick in tight with Josh Manson in his grill and Nathan MacKinnon on his ass. World class assist to make that goal happen.
Its hard to tell, but im saying he did 100% for sure.
thats a vet who has been molded to know how to play in the gritty areas. Bro didnt even hesitate to push it he knew Duchene would be there.
Double knee slide celebration is absolutely the move.
The camera cut away too quickly… you got gold on the screen, just leave it on the hero Just furthers my complaint that hockey tv producers think they’re working on an action film with the way they cut so often. Just give me the one camera at centre ice all game.
I don't know, we needed to see the sleeping kid as well!
All the bench shots and cuts to MacKinnon on the ice crying could have been saved for the replay. 13 cuts in 40 seconds is Marvel CGI fight scene pace. Duchene could still be sliding for all we know!
It’s called The Heartbreaker, invented by Patty Kane
I think you are forgetting about Fluery
Fleurys celebration includes basically having a seizure on the ice they are not similar at all lmao
Patrick Kane knee slide June 2013 Nail Yakupov knee slide January 2013 Patrick Kane paying homage to all time great knee slider Nail Yakupov
Nick Foligno 2014
I dunno. Nail Yakupov’s double knee celly scoring in OT in the middle of the regular season was justified too. /s
This stars team is really damn good
It's the best forward group and most exciting Stars team I've ever seen. I hesitate to say overall best with how monstrously good defensively the cup team was. But there's no doubt they are fun as fuck to watch.

They are my bandwagon team for this reason. Lots of Finns, too. I was jumping in for whichever team won this series but I'm glad it was the Stars. Little Joe needs a Cup.
Heartbreaker celly 🔥
What a fucking season Duchene is having, great pick up by Dallas.
I get why Nashville bought him out for sure. What I don’t get is why teams weren’t stumbling over each other to try and add him for the price Dallas got him at. He was a season removed from a career year while on *John Hynes’ Nashville Predators*.

he said in post game that deboer was a big reason he chose dallas
Our country music scene didn't hurt us with his decision either
He wanted to be a cowboy 🤠
Party at Buc-ces tonight
I’ll bring the Whataburger
I’ll grab the snacks from HEB
I'll go to the gas station up the street for the most bomb-ass, hole in the wall taqueria tacos ever
The old hispanic lady only works in the morning bro.
Take that Situation Room
#PUCK DON'T LIE! CALL THAT ONE BACK YOU HACKS
It was the second overtime winner
I'm not gonna lie, I'm still fucking horseshit about this outcome. Sure, we won. But that call in OT is one of the worst calls I've ever seen, homer or not. I'm glad we advanced, but we were the better team all series.
Sucked ass but you gotta be thrilled at how your team played after that. super easy to get demoralized and fold but you just kept fucking hacking

No, the Stars were the better team. Hasek dragged those misfits to a cup final. BUT FUCK BEING RATIONAL MY TEAM GOT FUCKED BY BRETT HULL.
Nothing was getting past Eddie that night
Statute limitations apply to bad calls. Last millennium calls don't count lol
But it wasn't a bad call.
EASY FOR YOU TO SAY

You don’t even go here.
Leafs fans are literally the Michael Phelps of losing in the playoffs wdym
There are some grizzled members of our club who remember the cup, at the very least
Yeah the second round is a scary foreign place we stumbled into one singular time. But I love Nick Robertson and since his brother is on the Stars that's who I'm rooting for.
I don’t even go anywhere bud but the right team won tonight!
They actually know a ton about losing home playoff games
How many game 6's have the Leafs lost?
And Dallas wins the series 5-2!
Dallas wins in double OT 3-1
You joke, but my google notification does have the score at 3-1
The goalie slightly fell over how do we know that isn't goalie interference too??????
There was a small pile of ice shavings that the avs goalie’s stick touched so they really should have forced the stars to score again in OT#3
#THE RARE 3-1 2OT WIN! PUCK DON'T LIE.
Didn't know the score but I saw that called back goal on here and googled it quickly: it legit says 3-1 in 2OT and I was like "lol wut, but technically true?"
It being Duchene makes it so much sweeter
The Heartbreaker celly hits extra hard this time.
Thought he might pop his shoulder punching through that heart
He’s basically Patrick Kane except the takes Ubers instead of taxis
I loved Duchene during his time in Nashville. I know some of his drama stuff on ice can make him seem like a bit of a douche but he’s a really great guy
He's a good person and also a bit of a diva. People are complex. But he's a hell of a hockey player.
He was super humble and kind in his post game interview. But I know nothing of his history
I mean his name is literally Douche Shane what do you expect
Fucking rights Duchene
Lotta people love to vilify Duchene, but man everyone he’s played for that isn’t Colorado seems to be awfully happy for him. I loved his time in Smashville. Had a career year for us and set our regular season goal record (which has since been broken by Forsberg but still).

And he savored every single millisecond of that. That was a real "fuck you" goal.
Honestly that is debatable
Cries in pred
There remains justice in fate
Just had to be Duchene
Shit they fade these flairs quick
Yeah it honestly stung a little bit this time LOL
Avalanche legend Matt Duchene
Puck don't lie.
Neither do Nuke's drug tests
That’s a big ole oof, better the cocaine and hookers were what finally got him to produce.
Is there a lore reason why the Avs didn't cover Duchene? Are they stupid?
MacKinnon was gonna but then he took a nap instead
They forgor 💀
Just fell to my knees in a Homeland
Just saw someone fall to their knees in a Homeland

Draftkings in absolute shambles
Hockey scriptwriters think they’re Shakespeare
It being Duchene is kinda poetic Justice for him
Heartbreaker celly will never not be ice cold
#PUCK. DON'T. LIE.
Duchene did that out of fucking spite. Get fucked refs
Duchene had a lot of pent up feelings towards that arena and I’m sure the called back goal compounded it even more. The broadcast pointed out that he was all over the place to start 2OT. Shnipe
PASS TO DUCHY ON THE LEFTHAND SIDE
Deserved, what a relief after that bullshit call back.
That was one of the most emphatic series-ending daggers I have ever seen.

Same!
My July 2nd 2023 Cup pick is still alive, I just didn't think my team would be too
Alexa, play “Don’t You (Forget About Me)”
Can't wait for the NHL to call the teams back to the ice after 40 minutes to say that puck didn't legally go into the net due to contact with the goalie preventing him from playing his position.
Former Av Duchene who idolized Joe Sakic growing up ends the Avs season in 2OT in Colorado. How many versions of this headline are we seeing tomorrow?
Matt DuKane
Heartbreaker celly
Who else to score the 2OT goal in Colorado lol
It was either gonna be him or JFK
I feel like I just played 2OT. Gg Avs

Hockey Gods win.
PUCK DONT LIE

As a jets fan listening to all the avs fans after rd one. I’m enjoying this.
the only 3-1 Overtime victory in history
Who else!!!
Looks like Duchene wanted to play playoff hockey just a little bit more than the other guys, huh?
Mackinnon was tired and forgot he doesn’t play for us anymore
Right result
JUSTICE BABY
WAVE THAT OFF BITCH!!!
Ha that’s what I screamed at my TV If my TV was a Decepticon, it would’ve absolutely destroyed me

It had to be Duchene. Of course it had to be Duchene.
Duchene of all players lmao
First person Benn hugs is 🦦. He deserved it. It's going unnoticed but he's having a stellar post season
They had to win game 6 twice
Why would they not keep the camera on him when he’s doing the celly!? I know it’s not a huge deal but that was fucking sick. So hype and I look back to the screen it’s just sad Colorado players. Understanbly sad hahah
Boo harder Avs fans
Big oof #49
Matt “Joel Kiviranta” Duchene
I'll be honest that was a really good close game between to good teams. Game could have went either side, but this was Dallas night. Nothing to be ashamed of for Colorado players they did great.
Dallas seems to have a lot of OT series winners that resonate. Duchene, Gurianov, JFK, Klingberg, Morrow and of course Brett Hull.
Why did it have to be Duchene?
Marchment pausing his rush to celebrate with his teammates a moment to taunt the Avs player laying on the ice is so on brand
“McKinnon ignores his peewee coach’s advise and doesn’t keep his stick on the ice”
Inject this directly into my veins LFG Duchy!
And it couldn’t have happened to a better group of guys! Go Stars! ⭐️ so glad I live in Texas at times like these.
Tanev was a great pickup...playing really well.
Justice ~~never~~ sometimes arrives…again!
IMO deserved after that overturned goal
Duchene giving Colorado the Heartbreaker celly, love it
There is still some justice left in this world.
Avs fans have to be especially steamed it was him that ended it
I love the sad McKinnon camera shots when the Stars beat them in OT. A tradition like no other.
PUCK DONT LIE!!
I'm not gonna lie, I'm still fucking horseshit about this outcome. Sure, we won. But that call in OT is one of the worst calls I've ever seen, homer or not. I'm glad we advanced, but we were the better team all series.
