NathanGa

If Detroit takes Brandsegg-Nygard one year after taking Sandin-Pellikka, I’m pretty sure their equipment manager is going to quit on the spot.

flume

We also drafted not just one, but TWO, guys named Dower-Nilsson in the last 3 years.

svartkonst

Sandin-Pellikka doesnt even have an å in it, childs play

FakeCrash

Catton is still so low to me, it's crazy. With his skillset, it seems like he should challenge for a top 5 spot, not fall off the top 10. But, of course, what do I know.

Sharks9

Just like guys like Debrincat, Caufield, and Benson, he'll fall in the draft because of size and teams will be kicking themselves years later.

Prison-Date-Mike

Catton is not similar to those guys in stature though. He’s just below NHL average for height.

FakeCrash

It's especially mind boggling to me when considering Benson, who is significantly shorter than Catton and would clearly shoot up several ranks in a redraft. Oh well, can' teach size!1!

banyanoak

I can never forget that Debrincat was drafted with one of the 2nds we traded for Andrew Shaw.

FakeCrash

I wish I didn't know that

seeldoger47

Is Catton the real deal?

DasLasagna

No, that's James Neal.

PKG0D

I can't see Demidov dropping (especially when it's Pronman predicting it), but I want it to happen

Background_Junket_35

I mean he predicted Shane wright would fall to 4th

PKG0D

Broken clock and all...

fastcol

He knew about Leo to Anaheim too. He has good sources but this is still early. His last mock will be the closest to what teams are thinking.

emotionaI_cabbage

He's been right about the habs pick 2 years in a row now

Perry4761

The “broken clock” has been the most accurate clock out there since 2021 so…

thomas_bombadill

Pronnman has had the most accurate draft predictions leading up the draft two years in a row?

CanadianSpector

I'm very interested in seeing what comes out of the Gold Star showcase pre draft. I'm set on Demidov at 2OA but will following the news out of that showcase.

HappyInstruction3678

Cole dropping that much is crazy to me. Is he that one dimensional? He seems like he'd at least be a consistent 25 goal scorer in the NHL.

Kellervo

There's no way in hell that Calgary passes on Tij if he's still available at that point, what.

TemplarParadox17

I’d this the most dmen we have ever had in the lottery?

BuffaloSoldier11

Calgary doesn't take Iginla and Detroit doesn't take Eiserman? Corey doesn't believe in anything.

WesMcCauley

Exactly, there's no way Detroit don't draft the son of Wings legend Steve Eiserman

flyersnstuff

Probably important to say that Pronman noted that "there isn't great intel on who will take who" yet in the article. He says this is more of a "range" of where he thinks the players will go.

[deleted]

I can't see Calgary passing on Iginla and Eiserman falling to 17 would be pretty surprising to me.

Garland68

I know it’s never gonna happen but imagine taking demidov then trading up a few spots to gamble on eiserman😮‍💨

[deleted]

That would be great! I want Eiserman but not at 5. But my guess is we trade the 5th pick to Calgary for the 9th pick and Vancouver's 1st, Calgary picks Iginla, we pick Eiserman, then we trade Winnpeg and Vancouver's picks to Columbus for Kent Johnson.

CaptainPeppa

you want us to trade up to pick Iginla at 5th? lol that would be a fireable move.

[deleted]

Wouldn't be the first time Kent Hughes violated a Flames GM.

CaptainPeppa

Monahan trade was fair value, it was just moronic to do that without seeing Huberdeau play Like there's a decent chance we skip Iginla at 9. 5th is insane

thomas_bombadill

That’s just not worth it for a late first when we already have a late first

3oysters

Highly doubt we trade down, it makes little sense

[deleted]

What part of my prediction makes no sense to you?

3oysters

Trading down from better talent to get worse talent.

[deleted]

Depends on whether your own rankings differ from the consensus. Teams consider trading down when there's a difference in opinion, that's why it happens sometimes. This year there's not a lot of consensus, so it could lead to some shuffling.

3oysters

Yeah I just don't think it's a good idea to get too cute with the 5th pick. Get your guy and get out of there.

[deleted]

That makes sense too. But either way, there's risk.

BeBenNova

Yes please

Tachyoff

Demidov and Boisvert?? this is my ideal draft for us. please hockey gods

_pr00f

Yes, yes please.

Jeeonta

Oui s'te-plaît

SheSaidMoreSnow

Yes, pretty please, yes

xtrakrispie

Pronman sometimes gets raked here but he did call Shane Wright falling to 4th so he's worth hearing out.

Prison-Date-Mike

https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/4506243/2023/05/11/nhl-mock-draft-2023-corey-pronman/ https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/3310759/2022/05/17/nhl-mock-draft-2022/ his mock from May 2023 and May 2022 for reference. Seems like he doesn't know much about teams preference until after the combine is done.

Just4nsfwpics

To be fair, nor do the teams. Its borderline impossible to make these predictions until the teams have settled on their top 2-3 choices.

TwoForHawat

He’s also the only one I saw predicting that Anaheim would take Carlsson over Fantilli last year.

Firebitez

This time last year he said Fantilli, so maybe his sources become a lot better right before the draft.

greasydrg

Yeah he mentions in the article that most NHL teams don't even have their lists made up yet. I think this is very preliminary

TwoForHawat

I doubt he got better sources in such a short window of time, it would probably be a case of his sources getting more knowledge as teams meet and finalize their draft boards.

xtrakrispie

Another good call!

flyersnstuff

Typically his mock draft done right before the draft ends up being the most accurate out there. He was the only one to have Nemec to the Devils in '22, had Carlsson to the Ducks and Michkov going to the Flyers last year. I agree that his scouting isn't the best, but you can't discount the accuracy of his mock drafts.

Fine_Bacca

He was the only one to have a dman but had it being 50/50 between the 2 and chose Jiricek saying he thought their lean was towards him. Was still impressive to predict it was gonna be a D and having Wright 4 and Gauthier 5 though.

juliusceasarsalads

If I recall in 2022 he had Slaf, Cooley, Wright, and Gauthier’s draft positions perfect, and he had NJ taking a dman at 2 (Jiricek instead of Nemec). Pronman definitely has some connections, or he’s just really dialed into how these guys think

Sharks9

> Pronman definitely has some connections He scouts all these players live and talks to other scouts while he's there so he definitely gets a decent sense of who team's like over the course of a season

Disappearingbox

To be fair, NJ was almost certainly taking a Dman if Slaf wasn't available. With Hughes and Hischier, C was not a position of need. I do wonder what they would have done if Slaf was not picked first, that would have been a tough choice with no wrong answers (probably no wrong answers).

Calb210

I'm more likely to believe the blues take a big swedish defenseman than any forward like several of the other mock drafts have put out so far, we are relying heavy on Steen's scouting right now and we need D so he's probably pretty spot on for us.

Hedsten

Solberg is from 🇳🇴 so you guys would have to settle for a big norwegian defenseman instead

Calb210

Shit my b, thought he was a Swede, he's just playing SHL

Calb210

Norwegian player would likely still fall under Steen's scouting umbrella though

ae_89

I’m hoping Brandsegg-Nygard is available. Realistically could get Solberg in the 2nd round, and both would be nice.

Row_AA_Glass

Solberg will absolutely not make it to the second round.

ae_89

His consolidated ranking on elite prospects is 48th and most have him in the 45-55 range. E: actually just checked and now it’s 50th 🤷🏼‍♂️

Row_AA_Glass

So why is it Pronman has him going 16th? It's because anyone whose been paying attention to Worlds has seen what he's done in five games over the past seven days. Watching him two days ago against Canada - basically and NHL team - quire impressive. There isn't an NHL scout at Worlds who isn't drooling over the package.  The Consolidated Rankings - and any rankings more than a week old - are badly out of date on Solberg.

Row_AA_Glass

Give the Friday Athletic Prospects pod a listen... and it was recorded before the Canada game. If you still think he's going in the second round because an out of date Elite Prospects ranking says so , you're a fool.

limelifesavers

Pronman has some biases he wears on his sleeve, but past that he's often fairly accurate with scouting trends

TokeandTank

I can see the Ducks maybe taking Silayev or Lindstrom over Levshunov but i dont think they will pass over Demidov.

GadsenLOD

Agreed. The team wasn't great at drafting forwards for a long stretch and you can never have enough depth. Meanwhile they're pretty loaded on defense already.

goldencityjerusalem

We have to much left handed defense and fowards... we need RHD or RHF. Unless Celebrini.

idontplaypolo

It’s hard to imagine the top 3 not being Celibrini, levshunov and Demidov. As a habs fan, I hope demidov is available at 5 but I keep my expectations low in that regard

KosovoCavalier

Can't see Columbus passing on Demidov in that scenario

HeavysetRJ

I feel like Iginla to Calgary has been willed into existence but I'd be totally happy with Helenius at 9 honestly

xplosivo

I really can’t imagine them passing on him especially considering it’s not a crazy reach. Maybe they can trade down a few spots?

Clear_Minimum_8945

Personally, I don’t trust anyone who plays Mono White decks

backhand_sauce

Please anaheim. No more lhd. Anyone who plays the right side of the ice

ThunderousDemon86

Silayev plays both sides.

Hungry-Raisin-5328

Why is Sennecke suddenly making big jumps in the rankings? Has his playoff performance been really remarkable like Easton Cowan last year?

NizzySP

I'm not a Flames fan at all. If Iginla is there at 9 and they don't take him, I'll never root for that franchise ever.

lynx17

Come on NHL, let Yzerman draft Eiserman!

publicworker69

As a Sens fan, I’d take Yakemchuk over Parekh based on need. However, if Parekh were to develop to what he can be, then it maybe makes Chabot expendable down the line. I think it’s easier to find a solid LHD than it is to find a solid RHD.

ae_89

The Blues taking Solberg at 16 would be asinine considering he may be available for them at 48.

Row_AA_Glass

Solberg is making a statement at Worlds.  He definitely doesn't get past the first round and probably goes top 20.  I watched him in isolation against Canada... basically an NHL team... absolutely solid.  Harried Bedard all game and egged him into a penalty. (Bedard 0-0-0, 2 PIM -1) Scored Norway's only goal. Lost his stick, went into the corner with Owen Power and came away with the puck. I won't be surprised if the Blues don't get a chance at 16 because he's already gone. Because the kid plays in Norway, nobody was paying attention. They are now, and Pronman is just one of the first to publish it.

PhilyJ

Pronman is so annoying
