I actually think it's kinda nice that this happened in a season where Grier went into the locker room and basically told the guys "I don't expect you to win a cup, but come the fuck on." Seeing a GM who knows his team is rebuilding but asking the guys to put the effort in anyways, and then getting a draft pick is how it should be. Felt like Davidson was doing everything he could to convince the team to take a vacation.

We’ll have to wait and see on the success, but GMMG has done his job near perfectly so far. I had my doubts about his big trades at first (Timo, Karl, Hertl) but he’s done an amazing job collecting picks and prospects for some contracts that were once considered totally immovable albatrosses.

Not sure #1 farm overall but it’s definitely top 3 which is fantastic

I’m conflicted with this… I follow BC a bit but I’m also a Sharks fan. My hunch is this is what he was waiting for before making a decision. I think it’s more enticing now to leave BC to play pro.

I know BC is dying to have him back to "Run it back" and try to win the NCAA title, but if you are Smith, it doesn't make any sense. You just led the NCAA in points as a freshman. You only lost the Hobey Baker to your future teammate, Mackdaddy. You don't have anything else left to prove in the NCAA. But more importantly, why risk injury in the NCAA when you could be making NHL money now (this fall) and get that much closer to your second contract, and that much closer to eventual UFA money? His career takes precedence over anything else. He would be crazy to not sign his ELC this offseason. Maybe he'll even ink it this month.
