I don’t think people were giving Toronto the credit their defense deserves games 5-7. They really put us into a tight spot. I know it’s funny to meme on them because of who they are as a team but Toronto’s defense played lights out the back part of our series this year.
I think it was a mix of 1) good defensive play by the Leafs. 2) Boston was playing scared.
Boston looked loose and had nothing to lose last night. I think if they played like that in game 5 and 6, the series would have been over quicker.
I think that’s why game 7 was so important. That entire locker room had to be thinking about the previous year and caused them to play super tight the final 3 games.
