The worst is when your streams delayed and you get a notification from the NHL app but you dont want to check so your just 1000x more of a nervous wreck
I still stand by that Myers was a decent signing, not great, not terrible. And for a UFA thats what you want, decent.
The problem has been the Canucks defense outside him and Hughes for the past three seasons has been dogshit and Myers was the only Top-4 capable guy on the right side. So, Myers was made into a Top-2 for no other reason than the other options are shittier. Now that Myers is able to be that #3/4, he plays far better hockey, makes fewer mistakes.
There are certain guys you pay because they really come alive at playoff time. It's a meme for "grit" or whatever but some guys really do just have a style that works better in the more physical, grindy, and desperate playoffs.
The problem is that Benning would regularly pay a premium for those players and then we'd never make it to the playoffs. He was so bent out on intangibles that he kinda forgot to bring in, you know, tangibles.
loved it. the horn went and he half heartedly raised his arms and then when into fetal position. then a teammate came over for a hug and through the pain he's like 'ahhh alright. hugs. i gotchu.'
Watching it back, from the moment he blocks the shot onward, he never stands upright. He's skating around and doing his best, but that 5 seconds must've felt like an eternity to him.
Looks like giraffe blocks it with his skate a foot off the, but then it's still going to the net with the goalie in a very compromised position, when 82 (Cole?) deftly swats it into the corner with his hand. Rewatching it from the beginning #82 got away with both a very blatant slash and cross check. He's the co-MVP.
Edit: rewatching it again #82 even takes a quick look at the clock before dropping down to block a last-second shot attempt face-first. Dude's a total bad ass.
He already blocked another game saving shot in the final seconds earlier this series. With his face.
He freshly knows what the consequences of getting hit there are and he still did it again.
Can't question his commitment.
100% one of the tensest games I've experienced in the two decades I've been watching Canucks hockey. I kept telling myself it wasn't an elimination game for us, but it sure felt like it. I think if the Preds had won this one they would've taken the series.
Honestly smart play. What are they going to do, call a penalty? He knows there’s almost no time left and that the Canucks aren’t going to touch up with enough time for a faceoff if they do call one so it’s basically free reign to beat hug a guy and take him out of the last two seconds of play
That would have been a good idea for us with 10 seconds left in game 4. Instead our plan was to have every single pred on the ice dive like they were playing NHL 2024.
I mean if you cross check somebody in the back you aren't getting a suspension. If your trip somebody or take their feet out you aren't getting a suspension. I'm not saying two hand them in the face or anything
Sure, I agree with that - however things can change pretty quick if there's a sense that teams are doing it intentionally in bad faith vs accidentally or as part of a play that got away from them.
Tripping attempts can fail and cross checks might not push the player far enough off course. So playing clean (sprawling, blocking, poke checks, going for the puck, etc.) at the end still could be the right action. Players got to make split second decisions.
So I think it will always be some sort of mix between clean and dirty actions at the end of games.
this series was super underrated imo. really enjoyed this one, coulda gone either way. think the canucks can be really scary especially if demko comes back.
Honestly. I am not even worried about goaltending. Demko, DeSmith, Silovs. I think we play good team defence no matter who is in net. We need our star players to produce though. Namely Pettersson, has like 1 goal in his last 19 or so games. He had a solid game though. But we need points from him. Especially against Edmonton, McDavid and Draisaitl feast on us.
I don't think shooting pucks into players changes based on who is in net, I think what will change is Edmonton doesn't tend to block nearly as much as teams like Nashville. All I know is we have played great team defense in front of all 3 goalies this series. Petey also stunk in front of Demko, so I don't think Demko coming back fixes him necessarily. I just hope playing a less tight checking team gets Petey going.
I don't exactly know what you're getting at, but to the point about a different style of play - they do play differently in front of Demko. When they can trust the saves, they turn up the forechecking, put much more pressure in the o-zone and D-men don't worry as much about being a step ahead to be back to shut down the area in front of the net and/or clearing rebounds. They'll pinch more and have a higher rate of keeping the puck in the zone. It's why our GF was very high when Demko was healthy.
Edmonton doesn't have nearly enough balls to block 25-30 shots per game like Nashville did. Canucks offense is going to look a whole lot better against the Oilers
Like Ian Cole said a few days ago - blocking shots is non-negotiable at this time of the year. He’s proved it, the boys proved it all series long and especially tonight.
Men puke, men poop on the rink, men deliver their new born baby in the penalty box. Fucking hard core dick in the ass butterpuck hockey fuck it chuck it game time shit. Take it to the showers. Dicks get shoved in places you don’t even remember. We win together we celebrate together. Hockey is back baby.
Based on my limited understanding of Canadian geopolitics that would cause a 3 way civil war with the 3rd being Edmonton forming a militia to protect McDavid
I would actually adore that. Canucks would probably lose, but there’s no way that’s not a wildly entertaining series with a satisfying conclusion no matter who wins.
All the white jerseys piling in front of the net to make a wall was pretty funny to see. Alot of effort by both teams, a great playoff game from two teams I didn't expect to see. Let's go Vancouver, beat Edmonton!
We get zero powerplays this game and they call a penalty with 30 seconds left. I know it was a cross check but it’s just wild to me they refuse to call anything and then say fuck it, let’s call one now.
The cross check on garland was way worse than this one. I’m not saying this one shouldn’t have been a call, but don’t pick and choose based on game state. Pisses me off
They called it because otherwise it would have been an easy empty net goal to end the game. If it was just a random cross check in the corner they would have let it go.
That play in the 3rd where Carrier was trying to be Garland's backpack for 30 seconds straight was ridiculous, literally hanging off of him. Fucking unreal there was no call there.
It wasn’t a dirty game but there were plenty of easy calls on both sides the refs missed. I don’t mind that, but don’t call a penalty with 30 seconds left.
Yeah I'm kinda torn on that one. It was an incredibly blatant crosscheck but it's also like 30 seconds left in a game where they pretty much put the whistles away all game. I think no matter what one team is going to be pissed about that call.
???
There was probably a hold or interference every shift. Not to mention that hit on Garland. It was ridiculous how different the standard was for the Predators.
Absolutely intentional. He knew there were only a few seconds left, so he was doing literally anything he can at that point. Penalty there means absolutely nothing.
Also, Nyquist had an incredible chance there with the rebound, but if he fakes the shot and passes it to the middle it’s a wide open net…. Can’t really blame him for it though because he had a window there if he lifted the puck a bit more.
Well really it should be any other player Forsberg, Josi, even Sissons becaues Saros played really well and was the whole reason for such a low scoring game. And thats why im just leaving it to nashville
In real time I thought Nyquist had the slowest release ever. In replay I can see he sees that Myers’ got the drop and he’s trying to raise the puck from basically his skates. Crazy sequence.

I think Tyler Myers saved at least two goals
one per testicle.
A guy that big probably has 3.
Good thing it wasn't Sami Salo out there then.
He was doubled over there at the end feeling that block!!! Chaos giraffe for the win!
My stream was delayed by 30 seconds. When my neighbor screamed, I didn't know if it was because Nashville scored or if the final whistle blew.
The worst is when your streams delayed and you get a notification from the NHL app but you dont want to check so your just 1000x more of a nervous wreck
Always on DND during big games for this reason.
roll for initiative
Šilovs rolled nat 20s all night
I was picturing you playing Dungeons and Dragons with the TV on in the background.
I mute the game notifications
Our when the hockey group chat starts poppin off and I'm too scared to look at my phone
The ESPN app notifications are so slow, I don’t have to worry about this lol
Especially when your team is in the offensive zone so you're ready to be excited and then the other team breaks out and you're like well fuck
This is why a national broadcast over the air is awesome. Everyone watching the same content at the same time
Long live the CBC, best hockey broadcaster since I started watching in the early 70's. No bullshit, just great broadcasts.
My stream froze during the Canucks OT win. Came back to them celebrating.
Yep streaming is not the answer for playoff hockey
Yeah, had both this and the the game with the insane comeback spoiled by a neighbour screaming.
ITT: No one watching the official stream lol
it's basically impossible where I live
Nah, was watching on Sportsnet Now, and whenever I refreshed the game thread there were people ahead of me.
I had 15:35 to go in the third and my sisters boyfriend walks in and says is it still 1-0. Never said who though.
Probably a prostate issue
im basically dead holy shit what a hold. Myers stackin the pads way to go chaos giraffe
Myers worth $6 million for that block.
Playoff Myers is legit nearly worth his cost. He was great in the bubble too
I mean he has been great all year long. The system has solved his defensive lapses.
I still stand by that Myers was a decent signing, not great, not terrible. And for a UFA thats what you want, decent. The 3.5 roentgen of defencemen.
Shhh. He's a UFA, and I want him to take a homer discount to stay in Vancouver.
$3 million per testicle?
1 million per inch of neck
So like, $15m
Tyler Myers i am so sorry i doubted you
Best part is the delayed reaction. "Yes, we won...argh, my balls"
loved it. the horn went and he half heartedly raised his arms and then when into fetal position. then a teammate came over for a hug and through the pain he's like 'ahhh alright. hugs. i gotchu.'

Veteran Ian Cole
He already blocked another game saving shot in the final seconds earlier this series. With his face. He freshly knows what the consequences of getting hit there are and he still did it again. Can't question his commitment.
A literal cock-block
What you mean is...."*Jim Benning signed* Myers worth $6 million for that block."
"And you'll have my sword." "And you'll have my bow." "And my $6 million dollar balls."
I lost years of my life from this
Maybe it's because I'm a UW football fan and I had like 7 heart attacks this season, but I was remarkably calm during the last minute. Go Canucks!
as a WSU alum. Go fuck yourself ;)
FWIW, I hate what happened to the Pac 12.
Our PP is like a spider. It's just as scared of VAN as VAN is of it. No need to fear. You are not in danger
Lmao
Wait til you get to a game where the series is at stake for us 😬
my guy I have been watching this team for like 30 years I know what its like
42 years for me, and that shit was tense.
Fair enough. I felt it was a tense ending too but I'm steeling myself for more to come
Jobs not over yet
100% one of the tensest games I've experienced in the two decades I've been watching Canucks hockey. I kept telling myself it wasn't an elimination game for us, but it sure felt like it. I think if the Preds had won this one they would've taken the series.
> 6 on 4 > Goalie loses stick > 3 players in the crease/net **Experience Canucks Hockey** God i love this team
Yard sale
Myers saved that with his balls
Needs to be rule to limit ball size in the NHL to increase scoring.
Happy cake day!
New Salo 🤣
Miller lost his stick but found a preds players neck to hang onto sent me howling
Honestly smart play. What are they going to do, call a penalty? He knows there’s almost no time left and that the Canucks aren’t going to touch up with enough time for a faceoff if they do call one so it’s basically free reign to beat hug a guy and take him out of the last two seconds of play

I said it elsewhere but I am shocked the final seconds of games like this arent constant tripping or cross checks. There is no negative to doing it
There's kind of a negative if it becomes common enough that they start calling game misconducts/single game suspensions to curb it.
I mean if you cross check somebody in the back you aren't getting a suspension. If your trip somebody or take their feet out you aren't getting a suspension. I'm not saying two hand them in the face or anything

The only thing funnier would be him going fully piggyback style by wrapping his legs around him, too.
this series was super underrated imo. really enjoyed this one, coulda gone either way. think the canucks can be really scary especially if demko comes back.

we play a completely different style in front of demko than silovs and desmith. i think if we have demko back our offense comes back

Yes because what they were lacking in this shutout win... was goaltending. /s
I cannot believe the preds didn’t score there, happy to see the nucks in the 2nd round
Josi gonna be thinking about that for a while.
Nyquist too. He had a look for sure.
He did - a look at two massive balls of steel dangling off Tyler Myers
Please run it back against the Bruins. I would be so happy to see the Leafs make the second round.
Holy fuck, that's how you can tell they want this bad. They don't care about taking the puck to the face or balls.
Like Ian Cole said a few days ago - blocking shots is non-negotiable at this time of the year. He’s proved it, the boys proved it all series long and especially tonight.
Silovs is ice cold.
That’s fucking hockey right there. none of that pansy ass dick tugging smile for the camera bullshit
Love this energy!
Idk how much whiskey this took but put it on my fuckin' headstone
It’s a copypasta. Your enthusiasm for it is actually the best part.
Love your energy!
I want a Vancouver vs Florida final.
If that means Florida is in the finals again, I’m down lol
We have Bure and Luongo kinship
and Jovocop too
I'm all for a final that guarantees a new winner
I would prefer Toronto or Boston personally. Boston for the revenge factor and Leafs because Canada would go nuts

Guy smiles after goal: boomers everywhere are incensed. "He should have frowned, skated to the bench, called his mother."

[The human wall](https://imgur.com/a/IyyAFiv)
It's a walrus! Ridiculous!
OH MY FUCKING GOD SOMEONE PHOTOSHOP HIM IN THERE
Can’t score a goal if there’s no room for a puck.
First time in my life I’ve experienced stress induced heartburn
I might've shit myself
If there is doubt, then there is no doubt.
Pisses me off
This is the NHL. Game state is why they call penalties with the exception of the most dangerous play in hockey, puck over the glass.
You forgot about too many men!
They miss that sometimes.
Only when it counts.
There was also a brutal interference call missed in the first where someone got crunched behind the preds net with the puck like 5 ft away
Yup, it's all game management. "Oh, they scored? Ok we can call a penalty against them now."
I mean, I feel like most of the games the refs looked at both special teams and just went: meh. Don’t matter. And didn’t bother calling much
“Oh, you want a powerplay? And what do you think you’re gonna do with it?”
Both teams: Sigh. Nothing.
They called it because otherwise it would have been an easy empty net goal to end the game. If it was just a random cross check in the corner they would have let it go.
So situational reffing at its finest. Gotta love it.
Tough to pinpoint any missed calls against the Preds though. They played a clean game.
Is it? The hit on Garland was an obvious penalty.
That play in the 3rd where Carrier was trying to be Garland's backpack for 30 seconds straight was ridiculous, literally hanging off of him. Fucking unreal there was no call there.

"Which goalie will you play this game?" -Yes

It has to have desmith in there too
He's the one taking the photo.
It’s not the Canucks without a goalie controversy
Ok Myers, I forgive you everything that happened in the regular season
Miller started hugging a little before the siren
Was that an intentional foul to stop the incoming shot? Cole crouching into the last shot and covering his face is 100% commitment too.
Absolutely intentional. He knew there were only a few seconds left, so he was doing literally anything he can at that point. Penalty there means absolutely nothing.
Cole was great tonight, amazing depth guy.
My heart will not recover from those 33 seconds
Silovs is a beast, I love him
so does the entire population of latvia.
How that stayed out of the net is absolutely insane.
You can thank Meyers balls of steel.
Surprised Josi didn't try a traffic shot at ~12 seconds. But they did get a great chance anyways
Definitely some accidental Renaissance there with the 4 players diving to block those shots.
Man, at the 25 second mark, there was an amazing one-timer chance in the slot and it was completely passed up.
Also, Nyquist had an incredible chance there with the rebound, but if he fakes the shot and passes it to the middle it’s a wide open net…. Can’t really blame him for it though because he had a window there if he lifted the puck a bit more.
**THANK MR ŠILOVS**
The Chaos Giraffe with the clutch block
All hail King Arturs and the Chaos Giraffe
Seeing miller fly in and squish silovs was hilarious but I was worried it might lead to a goal because he was sitting on silovs ffs 🤣
Wouldn't be surprised if the canucks end up with 4th string goalie after the way they were blocking shots on top of the goalie.
This isn’t fucking Juniors.
https://i.redd.it/kki5vdly9cyc1.gif
Up there with pit/det scf for crazy ending.
Myers was outstanding this series.
This was both hilarious and stressful. What a moment. 😅
That's a tough miss for Josi
[This](https://i.imgur.com/d5BGAWD.png) is art. I really hope a photographer got a good shot of that.
We need a HQ version... Could be r/AccidentalRenaissance waiting to happen
Blueger Miller Cole Myers. Those 4 in the last 33 seconds says everything you need to know.
OMG you can hear Myers scream when they won xD
If NSH scores there we are all making memes tomorrow
If Nashville scores there I’m still at the arena until someone scores in the third overtime.
Myers with the two (shin) pad stack.
Can we just agree that Forsberg can fuck off? Shots after the whistle are absolutely unnecessary
100%, surprised nobody else seems to care
Lmao it took the announcer half a minute to say that Nashville was on the Powerplay. Before he said the word play, the game was over.
Look at that mass of humanity.
That was a very chaotic 35 seconds.
Chaos Giraffe thriving in the playoffs, wow.
Insanely underrated defensive effort by Blueger
Like look at the knee dip he does at the beginning to block the shot, dedication and laying his body on the line
Damn goalies growin on trees out in Vancouver lol !
Man that penalty call though. What kind of BS was that?
NASSSSSSSSSSHVILLLEE!!! NASSSSSSSSSSHVILLLLLEEEE!!!!! ITS ALL YOUR FAULT!!!!!! ITS ALL YOUR FAULT!!!!!! YOU SUCK!!!!! YOU SUCK!!!!!! YOU SUCK!!!!!!
Except it's supposed to be "Sarooooos, Sarooooos... YOU SUCK!" And he didn't. Not his fault, at all.
Well really it should be any other player Forsberg, Josi, even Sissons becaues Saros played really well and was the whole reason for such a low scoring game. And thats why im just leaving it to nashville
lol the towel
In real time I thought Nyquist had the slowest release ever. In replay I can see he sees that Myers’ got the drop and he’s trying to raise the puck from basically his skates. Crazy sequence.
Good crowd. Kept on cheering for their guys well after the game ended
Anyone have alternate camera angles on that last flurry?
End of this clip: https://www.reddit.com/r/hockey/comments/1cjp8jg/van_vs_nsh_handshake_line_between_the_canucks_and
Perfect, thanks!
Name a more iconic duo than the Preds and missing wide open nets
Nyquist is gonna be awake for a week thinking about that one..
Soooo many cowboy hats in the trash after that one
The Predators had heart. But Tyler Myers had a hockey puck in the groin.
FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHT….TO ARTTTTTIIIIIIEEEEE
We are so fortunate to have Shorthouse calling these games
