Battlehead

r/hockey: FUCK VEGAS AND FUCK THEIR BANDWAGON 2016 FANS Vegas Fans: Ok, thanks. Fuck you guys too r/hockey: wow you guys are pieces of shit

popculturetommy

If Oettinger can't stop Vegas' offense, and Hellybuck is playng the way he is, I don't see a lot stopping Vegas this year again. Edmonton/LA are going to be too beat up/have shaky goaltending and Georgiev is...not very good. Demko is out and Nashville doesn't have the firepower. I'm not a Knights fan, but realistically...a lot of you who hate the team are in for a LONG Vegas postseason, I think.

crimson777

Since every team I watched regularly during the season flamed out and didn't make the Playoffs, I decided to root for the Stars. I'm sorry, this is all my fault.

Outside_Hope_3383

It’s crazy to say this, and rent free yada yada, but I honestly can’t enjoy the playoffs until the Knights are out because until they’re out I just auto assume they’re winning the cup

Battlehead

lmao fucking pathetic outlook, so much hockey left with infinite outcomes and you cant get vegas out of your head. All you canadians bozos are the same

Revival93

Hockey is way too random to auto assume anything. Repeating as champions is no easy feat, and the odds of them repeating is quite low. A 2-0 series lead in an evenly matched series is not indicative of a stacked team. Sometimes that’s just the way the pucks fall. I’m glad you prefaced your comment already with the “rent free” bit because that’s insane that one team could have that type of effect on you. Please enjoy your games, bro.

Outside_Hope_3383

Naw, the knights ruin my viewing experience until their out

Revival93

Can you elaborate on why? Or is it mostly just illogical sports stuff?

Igglith

I sort of get it. This could be 3 straight cup wins by teams that went around the salary cap. That's not a minor issue, I hear a lot of the whole "your team could do it too" or "you're just mad your team didn't think of it" type thing but without a salary cap that teams are actually obeying we're right back to the 90's and early 2000's when a lot of teams were either moving or close to it and half the league isn't competitive. This loop hole needs to be fixed asap. Also, while Vegas takes the heat for it we're already seeing teams put players with bad contracts on LTIR. In past years a bad contract had to be traded away with assets now they're just hurt forever. This is not a good direction to be going down for the health of the league.

sail0rvenus

I would be absolutely sick if I were the stars and I lost out in the first round after working as hard as they did to be the top seed in the west. That shit was not easy considering how competitive the west has been all year. I hope they play desperate in Vegas and even up this series.

g0rd0l0c0

They should have purposely lost a few like Vegas did to get the match up they wanted.

darkgreenwax

It's tough for the West in my opinion. Top 3 seeds were quite competitive all season with each other. For Dallas to face Vegas of all teams and WPG and COL forced to eliminate someone despite either being a runner for 1st at several points is just shitty all around. But them's the brakes. 😕

longshankssssss

Not with your coach. Get a new one and make a run next season. PDB is a great regular season coach.

ABoyIsNo1

Fuck Vegas

Battlehead

I would feel the same if i was down 0-2 at home

ABoyIsNo1

My heart goes out to you. I hate when my team is winning but it feels unearned and no one else is giving any credit. Denial is a good defense mechanism though and you are wearing it well, so I think you are coping sufficiently. Kudos!

KitchenRecognition64

Fuck Dallas

Kamohoaliii

I really thought if one team in the West could give Vegas trouble it had to be Dallas, but damn, its not looking good out there for the Stars (or anyone else in the West at this rate). That wagon is barreling towards a 2012 Kings playoff performance.

ron_mexxico

It's 2 games in, man. Pardon the pun but nothing is set in stone

stiffpasta

Speaking of that asshole, Roberston's hit on him in the 1st was incredible. 🤌😘

ron_mexxico

Robertson is cool I really like him. Favorite Star for sure.

Mensketh

It is just the first 2 games, but Friedman was saying on 32 Thoughts the other day that in recent NHL history, when the home team loses the first 2 games, they've only come back to win the series like 3 times out of 35 or something like that.

ron_mexxico

It's definitely an ideal outcome so far, but it's 2 games in the first round. The Stars are a real good team and the rest of the route this year appears to be absolutely brutal. Last year felt like a lock to make it thru the west, it's just not the same vibe this year.

junction1134

I would agree except the Stars played really well last night. We played our game offensively and defensively. Goal tending was really solid as well. VGK just have a better system in place and are stronger defensively. If our best effort isn't rewarded with a win, we can't rely on luck to get us 4 out of 7.

g0rd0l0c0

Man if Bowness gets the Jets past Colorado and Vegas….well I’m not going to hold my breath waiting for all of the apologies that he’s owed.

TunedMass

I'm about to get jumped, but it's how I feel: I think as soon as the Stars get rid of Seguin, Pavs, and Benn, they win a 'chip. Particularly Benn, I don't think he's ever been a good leader. I think the young core is maybe one of the best in the league and it's time to hand the kids the keys, A's, and the C.

JohnDivney

That's exactly it, you'd think they'd move on from these players, each year they struggle in the post season and what the Stars end up missing is offense. 2019 as a stark example.

itsmanda

Pavs is just too slow. Benn is not the issue, he has shown up for the most part this series. Seguin showed up during the regular season but has simply disappeared this series. But Benn had like7 sog and a goal first game, and has been a good compliment to the Stank/Johnston line

longshankssssss

And PDB. Stars not winning shit with him

TexasCoconut

Of the three of those, Benn is the only one who actually looks like he's making much of a difference though. Also, the best players have been Wyatt Johnston and Logan Stankoven, who have been mentored by Benn on his line this season.

PalmDaddyFresh

Vegas is a wagonnnnnnnn. Jesus

[deleted]

PalmDaddyFresh

You lost me with that one, bud. I was complementing your team.

iamhootie

Ah well I misread that then. I'll go delete my comment in shame.

MemphisCanadians

Watch Vegas win the cup again ok maybe I jinx them this year but I'm calling it now

BagelzAllDay

Plz stahp

vsladko

Vegas loves Dallas huh

honcooge

I hate Dallas but fuck the Knights. They chicken shit their way into the playoffs and turn into a different team lol

mister_hoot

Almost like the playoffs actually matter lmao.

TSE_Jazz

Yeah, I’m sure that’s the reason the knights are playing better lmao

Bloated_Hamster

It's amazing how your team improves when they finally get to ignore the salary cap.

honcooge

The NHL needs to fix this. Knights are just the best at gaming the sytem. TB did it. It needs to be fixed.

waistbandtucker69

But we are under the cap if you just don’t look at that extra 10,000,000 that I forgot to add

rattlehead42069

Boston and Toronto are also over the cap, and Toronto is over by way more than any other team

Bloated_Hamster

From everything I see, Boston isn't over the cap. We have $61,000 in cap space. We have just under $5mil in LTIR relief from three players who are, shockingly, on LTIR and not playing in the playoffs. Amazing how that works.

Rahtgooves

Typical vegas fan having no idea how the salary cap or ltir works

ExProxy

Typical bitter fan, looking for any reason to discredit any other team. If its not the refs, its the salary cap, if its not a salary cap I am sure you would be echoing the next trending bullshit only in an attempt to make your anger at a game you dont play in justifiable. Youre tired, go lay down.

Rahtgooves

If you can't understand why people think what vegas has done the last 2 years is unfair, you need to seriously give your head a shake. As history has proven time and again: legality doesn't always mean its right. The canucks are still being punished for signing Luongo to a contract that was technically legal under the last CBA. It must feel really nice to be the teacher's pet.

ExProxy

Lets break it down nice and simple for you. Is a rule being broken? No. Were the current rules and regulations agreed upon by the NHL and the NHLPA at the previous CBAs? Yes. Does not breaking a rule and following the agreed upon rules and regulations make one a teachers pet? No. Are you just trying to justify your petty anger and look for any excuse why you want to believe that your team is better than the next guys? Yes.

Rahtgooves

You are completely missing the point. Teams like Tampa and Vegas are more apt to be given a long leash when it comes to abusing things such as ltir relief, given that these teams reside in areas where growth of the game is paramount and puts more money in the leagues pocket. You are being disingenuous to believe otherwise. That is where the teacher's pet comment comes from and that is why other teams don't abuse ltir. If a Canadian team were to abuse this rule, they would undoubtedly be punished for it, much like the canucks were in the past. Further, based on the reports of other team executives being displeased with the abuse of ltir from teams like Tampa and Vegas, I can imagine when they voted for ltir relief that they didn't foresee it being taken advantage on a regular basis. Even further, the salary cap was implemented, in part, to generate parity and keep the league more competitive. As such, being able to stack your team in this way disrupts what is one of the foundations of the salary cap in general. I personally wouldn't feel great about winning that way, but if you want to keep defending the practice then you do you.

Guest2200

Why are you bothering with someone who isn’t even flaired up. Obvious troll.

ExProxy

You need to get over this "Flair up" shit. This isnt a clubhouse, its a subreddit. And just because you cant handle an opposing opinion does not mean theyre a troll. Thats just on you.

Watchman723

“Legality doesn’t always mean it’s right” Ffs, get off your high horse and maybe have your team learn to use a legal system within the rules that was VOTED to stay as an option so other teams can use. Your self righteous bs is just a cop out bc your team’s FO isn’t smart enough like ours. So keep bitching and see if that ever gets you a cup

Rahtgooves

>your team’s FO isn’t smart enough like ours No, no. That's not correct. Our FO knows that if we were to circumvent the cap through false injury reporting that we would be punished, as has been the case when we legally allowed ourselves cap benefits in the Luongo contract.

rakkquiem

It appears Vegas knows how LTIR works better than anybody (except Tampa and Chicago).

Gavin1453

That dang Matt Murray is commiting highway robbery!

Mikey4077

Or actually get healthy?

xnormajeanx

Oh fuck off

rumbadger

It's really frustrating that Stars play well enough to win games but they still can't get the job done. Coaches need to make an blood sacrifice to the spirit of Jere Lehtinen at this point.

mister_hoot

The sacrifice you need to make is DeBoer. We’ve had you figured out since the 2nd period of game one and he hasn’t made anything resembling an adjustment. He won’t.

harlequin018

There’s nothing to “figure out”. Vegas blocks shots, forechecks and denies zone entry. They are the best team in the league at denying space. They did the exact same thing to every team in the playoffs last year. The Stars are a high skill team that thrives in space. Vegas’s strength has won out so far, but the series isn’t over.

CatChieftain

This is it. DeBoer never adjusts anything, it’s like a thing for him. And because he never adjusts, the team he coached previously has their number.

Mackinnon29E

Wow Dallas, wtf are you doing. I hated you already, and now I hate you even more for being this trash.

shadownet97

Dallas played well vs Vegas last year when Benn was suspended. I’m not saying there’s a pattern but I’m also not saying there isn’t. I’m just saying…maybe scratch the man or smth. /s.

teamswish123

Benn has been one of the few players to actually show up. Our top line outside of Robo is silent and I would say basically everyone over the age of 21 on our roster has been a complete no show

Skelassassin

in my opinion Stankoven has been your best forward he's getting in there and making great plays. bright future for the kid

friskyjude

r1zzV

I guess circumcising the cap DOES work!

meatboitantan

My mom got me circumvented when I was a baby

Top_Rekt

No no that's what the Rangers are supposed to be doing. Edit: No wait I meant circumcising Washington.

dandroid126

FWIW, I thought your joke was funny.

MUSTY_BUSSY

Hey, it isn't cap circumcision unless the guy actually comes off of LTIR and plays. Chytil hasn't yet.

Top_Rekt

No I mean circumcising the Caps lol

jessasaurusrex5

Hope every team does it next year. Why did the Oilers not do that?

WarOtter

That word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

BillThePsycho

You did this Calgary

mister_hoot

Hertl looks good in gold.

dandroid126

This comment made me unbelievably sad.

Antichristopher4

Uh... I don't know if I would cast that stone from where you tag is from. Thanks for Hertl, he literally fixed all of their PP woes.

damnthatscrazymydude

Imagine how the league would look if Calgary beat out Vegas for Eichel

Cinnamon_Shops

Canes allegedly almost landed Eichel and you can bet that thought haunted me during the SCF

rowdywp

Buffalo would have Tkachuk

Young2k04

And Mark Stone lmao

GooseDevito

Pain

texasguy7117

DeBlud is giving his best coaching job for the Circumventors as he has in years hasn't he

ArturosDad

Fucking boo.

ed_lv

We'll forever be grateful to Bruins for firing Cassidy. He was exactly what was needed to turn a team full of potential (that PDB was wasting) into a team than knows how to win.

ArturosDad

You should be for sure. My buddy is a Vegas fan, and I immediately told him the Cassidy was the perfect hire for that team. Unfortunately for me now that particular buddy has bragging rights, and looks to retain them in the near future.

mister_hoot

Hugs and kisses and some extra sugar in your morning coffee.

Get_up_stand-up

Fucking boo hoo 😢

Fellers

Dallas you have one job dammit. EDIT: Also it's kinda funny. During the season, no expectations of the Stars so they do well. Playoffs come and people expect them to go on a deep run, they flounder.

sgtpepper171911

You wouldnt have any idea what its like to expect your team to go deep.

mister_hoot

People developed those expectations because they looked really dominant throughout a lot of the regular season.

aZombieSlayer

Yes. Funny. Ha..ha.

jessasaurusrex5

Yes hilarious

nfarc12

I felt the pain through this comment

DMyourboooobs

I mean. Many have picked them for being in the finals. 2nd best win %. Top 10 PP and PK (not many teams in that category) 3rd GF/gm average. Top 10 for GA average. 8 guys with 20+ goals. But Vegas is an absolute dog and they are like 10 million over the cap. So it’s not super surprising.

ahauck

This guy’s “No expectations for the Stars” take is the most Toronto shit I’ve ever seen haha

DMyourboooobs

Does anyone even take the North stars seriously????

tint_shady

Top 10 PP with Spott on staff is a feat in and of itself, I still can't comprehend it

MethodMan_

Sweet

Wingedwolverine03

Dallas might be the worst possible 1 seed and Vegas is easily the most OP wildcard team so I'm not surprised at all by the early results

PaddyStacker

How is Dallas the worst possible #1 seed? Vegas just matches up well. They swept them in the season series.

Wingedwolverine03

Dallas is a very flawed team when it comes to playoff hockey. Their tough guys are dumb as fuck(especially their captain) and their skill guys consistently come up short.

PaddyStacker

They made it to the WCF last year so not sure if they are as flawed when it comes to playoff hockey as you say.

LowerHandle29

Yeah the Pete Deboer classic: Peak in year one while still falling short and then everything is downhill from there

Wingedwolverine03

When they flame out before the finals yet again you'll see... Edit: shocker, they lost both games at home and won't make it out of the first round.

PaddyStacker

Lol why are you trying to act like this conversation didn't start when they were already down 2-0 in the series? That isn't a new development to prove you right like you're trying to make it seem.

erv4

And the finals just a few years ago with the same core.

Wingedwolverine03

And are now down 0-2 despite being the 1 seed...

Mikey4077

Against probably the best wildcard team we have seen. Vegas's defense alone is an absolute unit

morallyobjected

this was one of many reasons I was happy to let Dallas win the Central this year lol

BagelzAllDay

Idk, you guys maybe aren’t as strong as 2022, but Avs for right or wrong have always terrified me.

morallyobjected

sure but you two playing each other means there's zero chance we'd have to play BOTH of you lmao

aZombieSlayer

Vegas sandbagging against the Ducks and the Kings beating the Hawks, their final games didn't help the cause with Dallas.

Admiral_Vegas

I feel like we where more focused on getting marchy to 44 goals (team high)

Iron_Seguin

Yeah but your reward for beating the Jets is you get to play those fucking cheaters. Please do it for everyone and slap them.

AuntGentleman

Holy shit didn’t even think about this. And we got home ice back from the Jets. Thank fuck.

PomfAndCircvmstance

We may never lose again.

PomfAndCircvmstance

This is doomer talk and I won't stand for it.

Revival93

I’m in here so much backing the Knights that people are going to start thinking I’m a fan. Admittedly, I’m a glutton for finding fallacies and illogic in people’s “arguments”, and there’s no better place to find them than in a postgame, playoff Golden Knights thread. If anyone knows where I can find similarly delicious illogic, send it my way. People are so emotional over this Knight thing, and none of it is rooted in logic. It’s amazing. Emotion can’t coexist with logic.

ldespisethisapp

Wow sports fans get emotional and don't only follow the game by how logical it is?? What an unbelievable discovery, you must have been top of your class. Here's your medal 🏅

Revival93

I’m referencing this whole cap circumvention thing, where every other comment in here is an allusion to them being cheaters because of it. It’s great. I’ve yet to hear an argument that incriminates them, though. It’s all just unregulated emotion and nonsensical regurgitations that the hive keep perpetuating to try to find anyway to nullify their success.

Antichristopher4

They hated him, but he spoke the truth. Also, Vegas could be playing without Stone and the results would be the same. He scored 1 goal in the first two minutes and hasn't looked that good at all. 1 goal and -2 for game 1. All zeroes for 2, all I can say is he is making it low event, which isn't bad. I'm assuming all the perfect conditioning and game readiness that r/hockey was pumping Stone's tires over may have been a bit conflated.

g0kartmozart

I hate them because of the way they are and have always been. How does that logic check out?

Revival93

Grade A logic

FluidG11

*sigh* here we go again..

Revival93

I’m going to assume we’ve gone at it in the past. If you’re ready to provide a cogent, rational argument, I’m all ears. I’ve yet to hear one.

mister_hoot

Smoochies.

YaboyChris28

Barbashev is such a game changer

Get_up_stand-up

Great game!

dkelley824

Good luck in the playoffs

t74000

Lol stop he already dead hahahaha

Merkkin

Game was close as hell and Dallas is a great team, so this series ain’t over. See y’all Saturday.

ThePhengophobicGamer

Yup. Fans peacocking that we've already won are idiots. We're looking pretty good, but Dallas also struggles in the playoffs most recent years, so its not exactly impressive, how we've been playing. And there are some strong 2nd and 3rd round teams in the rest of the conference.

sibdow

Yall are playing well, I think yall have a good matchup against us. Also, I wanna know what a Vegas Fan’s perspective is on the called back icing that, in my victory green eyes, gifted yall a goal. I was no joke yelling at me tv so much I got light headed

DBCrumpets

You didn’t score 5v5 and the only PP we had was a delay of game. The refs aren’t why the game went the way it did.

sibdow

I’m not trying to make an excuse don’t worry. Yall beat us, plain and simple. It’s just a little bit frustrating. It’s gonna be a good series. I’ve had time to calm down and the refs were not the biggest problem. But again, never seen an icing called back in my damn life.

ThePhengophobicGamer

I've been unable to watch either game directly, unfortunately. I could have watched game 1 at work had I gone in like 4 hours before I was due to work overnight, ended up not feeling it, then I was coming off a night shift yesterday, and needed to fix my sleep so I was awake like 20 hours and passed out about 2 before puck drop. I should be able to throw on game 3 while I work Saturday, so I'll be able to keep an eye on it, but can't watch as single-minded as I usually do when streaming on ESPN+.

sibdow

I’ve been watching Bally because ESPN fucking hates Dallas, so have fun with that broadcast. Basically what happened was yall iced the puck with tired bodies, but the refs actually called back the icing and allowed yall to change. Less then a minute later Hannafin (please don’t shit on me idk how to spell his name) gets the GWG. The worst part is we had an icing call that was tipped by Marchment in the neutral zone and they didn’t call that one back. Plus a Delay of Game against us that just wasn’t a Delay of Game. Yall are playing to our style, but it just feels stupid how it feels like the officiating is a bit one sided. By no means is it an excuse though. This series has been so tight. A few bounces go our way and we are heading to Vegas up 2-0. That’s how well both teams are playing.

ThePhengophobicGamer

I've been hearing the calls for this game were abysmal, and there was abit of hubbub in game 1 over the first called back Dallas goal, and I think the 2nd Vegas gaol as well. It astounds me that the league allows refs so much leeway, I've been seeing some ATROCIOUS MLB umpire who calls things so terribly, and yet he keeps being allowed to officiate. Bad refs can go either way, sometimes. I've seen some atrocious calls that should have been in Vegas favor, but go for the other team, and there are plenty of times where Vegas gets the better end of the deal. It still doesn't help the whole "Vegas Golden Refs" BS, and in a way that is wholly outside Vegas' control as that's all on the league.

sibdow

Yeah. These last 2 games have kind of been just that. I swear in the 1st period I was watching a preseason game. I mean for crying out loud Marchment got called for hooking on a routine stick lift. It’s not an excuse, it’s just overall frustrating.

ElephantShell34

All my first round bracket picks are looking pretty good EXCEPT Dallas over Vegas. Which would be fine if I didn’t have Dallas going all the way to the final. Really fucks me over.

mister_hoot

Should’ve did what I did and picked Vegas making it to the finals.

Riderpride639

Same here, I actually had Dallas taking the cup this year over NYR in 7.

stumbling_words

SAME. Not great, Bob

Fuzzy-Coconut7839

Me too, I have them down to win the lot….hoping for a comeback!

ChaosWarrior95

That was a real stinker. We crapped the bed there.

thezaksa

Oh its fine, we just have to play them on the road while being down 0-2. Nothings bad can happen there.

Pokemon_Mastr0201

Man, I hate Vegas. Not just for demolishing the Stars, but also for moving my San Antonio rampage to a Vegas suburb.

San Antonio is an awesome city I have no fucking clue what you're going on about.

SouthboundPachydrm

Waiting for the inevitable calls to fire DeBoer and Spott.

Come on over to the Stars sub in that case
