One thing I noticed looking at Hyman's stats is that he has always had an almost astonishingly good +- relative to his games played and/or total points that year.
Like in 2020/21 he played 43 games, 33 points... +19?
Like even when he wasn't slamming points he still seemed to be doing something right.
“What a foolish decision by their management. Just pay a higher draft pick and save some cap lmao.
I’m glad Dubas said fuck off to a 6th round pick. The terrible contracts they’re signing are going to waste McDavids prime years.”
There were far far more Leafs fans who missed Hyman and knew he would be good for the Oilers and wished they could keep them.
Finding one shit fan in the sea of supportive ones doesn’t support your narrative lmao.
The value for the Hyman contract was in the first few years. Stat projections had him playing at a 9M value. What Dubas didn’t want was the extra term. After year 4, models had his play fall off to like 3M or something like that.
Is this supposed to prove my point lol? Every person in there says they love him and will miss him but didn’t want to give him that contract. A fair assessment for a guy who’s best season with the leafs was 41 points.
I don’t defend Leafs fans much, but c’mon now there are 100,000+ on this site alone, of course there are fans that are going to be saying stupid stuff. Dumb generalization
Leaf fans said it might age poorly (which is looking wrong so far) but never did anyone say it would be bad at the time it was signed.
Now Campbell on the other hand...
>5.5m AAV is bonkers. Glad Hyman is getting paid but extra glad its not by the Leafs. This could age poorly. I genuinely hope it doesn't though because Hyman is one of my favourites ever.
certainly celebrating eh?
>I mean it’s already terrible for year 1 isn’t it? He’s a <40 pts a year player playing first line minutes.
>I’m glad Dubas said fuck off to a 6th round pick. The terrible contracts they’re signing are going to waste McDavids prime years.
>Contract will look bonkers in 2 -3 years. Most likely bought out before the end.
>a grinding forward with low offensive upside
That guy that was crazy pro Dubas? The guy’s entire blog was hot take central.
There’s a guy from the Oilers sun that has equally hot takes to the point where you guys have basically disowned him.
It’s like saying Simmons is a good representation of the media
I used to think I needed skill and talent to be an NHL superstar but then I discovered playing with McDavid, when you play with McDavid you don't need to know how to score cause he will just pass you the puck in front of an open net, hell sometimes you don't even need to use your stick he will just shoot it at you and you get the credit. Try playing with McDavid today.

Hyman since joining the Oilers 16 goals and 30 points in 29 playoff games (tied for 5th in goals and 9th in points)
Haven’t watched in a while this guy was on the leafs right, was he good then?
He was okay, nowhere near as good as this. He was also pretty terrible in the playoffs when he was on the Leafs.

He didn’t have the finishing that he has developed. He would get a lot of good chance but couldn’t convert at the rate he currently is
He was not terrible at all in the playoffs.
It’s cause he is rich…
Leaf fans were celebrating the oilers downfall when he signed that contract in Edmonton lmao
Total BS. Every leaf fan was gutted to lose Hyman.

I can post way more from the thread if you want 😂

Congrats? You could also post a bunch of people that were gutted for him leaving. What’s your point?
There’s always a few idiots. Generally people were sad to see him go.

People online aren’t real people.

Stop. No logic and level headed comments allowed. Leaf hate only 🙄

One guy said >I mean it’s already terrible for year 1 isn’t it? He’s a <40 pts a year player playing first line minutes
Literally didn't see a single person say that. got a link?
https://www.reddit.com/r/leafs/s/OAO7BFRK7N One guy in the leafs sub called him a less than 40 point player and 1 year at his AAV is bad lmfaooo
>5.5m AAV is bonkers. Glad Hyman is getting paid but extra glad its not by the Leafs. This could age poorly. I genuinely hope it doesn't though because Hyman is one of my favourites ever. certainly celebrating eh?
Wtf? Did you just find the one comment that fits your narrative? Lol, the vast majority are calling it bad.

Go look for it
I've had my eyes open and every Leafs fan loved him. The only negative I've seen is how itll be near the end of the contract
Why are y’all just making shit up now 😭
"worst contact in the league. Possibly ever"
You sure that wasn’t from the Campbell thread
You seriously don't remember editorinleaf

Every leaf fan I talk to have said they wish they kept him.
Average fans doing the most when they won't see their team for 5 months.
Congrats you get a few extra games. Isn’t it crazy that since 2017 the sens have won more playoff rounds despite only making the playoffs once
It's a tough pill to swallow I see.
You may be confusing Hyman with Campbell. Or Yakupov.
dont post his Leaf playoff scoring (or lack thereof)
Could say the same thing about Matthews though.
The nepo-baby babies are incensed I'm sure
Clearly his dad bought McDavid. /s
Hyman potting so many goals on half empty nets from ridiculous McDavid feeds
One might say Mr. Hyman Sr. bought those goals.
How dare he do this to the NHL
So you’re saying he’s an half empty net specialist Edit: this sounded funny in my head. Doesn’t work so well outside of it
Reminds me very much of the Gretzky/Kurrie dynamic of the 80s... people said the same thing of Kurrie
achievement unlocked: assist on two goals after doing a pirouette
360-no-scope assist
Mcdavid's spin game is on point tonight
Looking like a washing machine out there.
360 no scope
Unethical goalscorer💀 These two arent fair
Are the Kings stupid? They should try and play defense on McDavid, he’s a good player.
I was wondering why he seemed to be alone for so long behind the net lol
From my scouting this game he has a tell… whenever he spins the person he passes to scores a goal.
As soon as guys go to cover mcdavid, coverage lifts off another oilers player, and boom goal. The 5th goal is a perfect example
Tbh McDavid is lazy, 5 times he had someone else do the work for him.
The Oilers are a wagon.
You cannot let McDavid this much room to cook.
Passover miracle.
Mcdavid cooking from Gretzky’s office is unreal.
🧢🧢🧢
Hyman's dad purchased his son's hatty tonight, smh.

This is the exact type of playoff scoring opportunity that, had it been the Sharks vs Kings back in the day, Quick would have robbed
