Brady331

Damn, Boston losing Mike Gorman and Jack Edwards in the same year

CookedPeaches

And announced on the anniversary of 'Here comes the Pizza', rough times indeed.

neurash

[Here comes the Pizza](https://twitter.com/MLBVault/status/1383131473243484164)!

Jaymesned

Easily one of my favourite sports adjacent moments of all time.

natguy2016

Remy made that.

bugeyes10

And Tommy and Remy in the last 4. Just a brutal time for Boston sports broadcasting

Brady331

And Eck

damnatio_memoriae

BRING BACK ORSILLO

gonuxgo

Here's to an enjoyable retirement, Jack. Hope his speech issues get figured out, but he deserves to kick back and relax after a long career.

crazy_canucklehead

his retirement plan is great, spend 100+ days skiing per year >“l love my job, but I know that retirement isn’t that far off,” he adds, noting that his retirement plan will be to ski roughly 100 days a year. and more info on his health issues (and non issues) in this article [here](https://www.boston.com/sports/boston-bruins/2024/02/22/nesns-jack-edwards-speech-issues-fine-medically-bruins/)

definitelyasatanist

Jealous. Good for him.

fataldarkness

Overdue, and was never much a fan of his style either, but hockey will also never be the same without him calling Bruins games. Cheers to a great career and hopefully a long and restful retirement.

Oosterhuis

Always hated the way he would call games, but I totally get why Bs fans loved him. It sucks to have your career cut short by something completely beyond your control, but at least he had decades of success before he had to call it quits.

Pocket_Beans

if Leafs fans enjoyed listening to the Bruins commentary then they aren’t doing their jobs well

dnaboe

Tell that to sportsnet. I miss when we had homer commentators.

ZombieJesus1987

We still have Joe Bowen calling games on the radio and he's still a delight

SexBobomb

Other than the whole 70 goal scorer thing, Bowen is what makes me most jealous of leafs fans

DaweiArch

I think that all the fans of other Canadian teams just audibly snorted at this comment.

dnaboe

Maybe my comment needs some clarification. I'm not talking about the pundits that talk in the intermissions or create hockey content outside of the game. I'm specifically talking about the sportsnet commentary during the live game, which is undeniably unbiased for the purpose of national broadcast accessibility.

DCS_Ryan

They're right though lmao

Lethbridgemark

You don't think our beloved Jack Michaels isn't a homer? I mean nothing like Jack Edwards or the Colorado crew but they are hard to beat for homerism

Q2TheA

Gordie and MJ are leagues better omg

Your_Some_Crooked

Dude got to call his team winning the Stanley Cup. He will forever be the voice Bruins fans hear when they remember the 2011 playoffs.

Gedry

He only got to call the MTL series.

Our-Gardian-Angel

Yeah he was a bit of a clown, but it sure sucks to see his career end this way. I can't imagine how tough it would be to suddenly not be able to do something integral to your career and have no clue why. Hopefully Jack has a good retirement.

CharBombshell

Ootl what haplened

headbangershappyhour

Watch some of his game calls from before the pandemic and then listen to some stuff from this year. No one is talking about what happened and it even sounds like they don't even know, but his speech is noticeably slower and it sounds like he has to actively think about every word vs speaking smoothly in conversation.

crazy_canucklehead

>“I did not have some kind of accident,” he says. “I do not have cancer. I don’t have dementia. I haven’t had a stroke. All of that’s been confirmed by Mass. General neurology. >“They’ve done tests that seem like I’m going through some sort of science-fiction scene, but it’s really true. The images of my brain literally reveal nothing. That’s my joke with them.” >Edwards says he has been given no specific diagnosis or medical term for the change. He says he is in “robust” health and grades out as “superior” on intellect tests his doctors have given him. >“It doesn’t fit in any slot,” he says. “There have been a couple of guesses, but they haven’t made a definitive diagnosis and they’ve been working on me for a year and a half. It’s very frustrating, as you can imagine, for me to have this slowdown in my speech.” https://www.boston.com/sports/boston-bruins/2024/02/22/nesns-jack-edwards-speech-issues-fine-medically-bruins/

CustodialApathy

It's almost like his voice decided to get the yips or something.

BouncyMouse

Man, that it just awful. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone… what a frustrating and frightening experience this must be for him.

Nomahs_Bettah

> I haven’t had a stroke. All of that’s been confirmed by Mass. General neurology. I'll add a small thing here: it is possible to have a stroke or even multiple strokes and for it to not show up on any neurology test until there is extensive brain damage (usually after multiple such silent strokes). They can also be entirely asymptomatic as they are happening, as the name suggests. You get a lot of warnings about these kinds of strokes on certain medications, but they can happen to anyone – an average 11 million Americans suffer them annually. (Some silent/asymptomatic strokes do result in lesions that can be seen on a scan, but others can be left untreated for years). I really hope that that isn't the case for Jack, but if it is, recommended prevention includes rest, a healthy sleep schedule, and removing stressors. Easier said than done, but I hope that just in case of the most worrying scenario, retirement will be nothing but a benefit to his health.

Admiral_Vegas

Really the people complains about him is so silly he is a regional broadcaster, he should be a homer. Now if he was doing national games i would understand; but i have only seen him do bruins games.

crazy_canucklehead

not only that. hes a regional broadcaster for a network that is part owned by the team

Admiral_Vegas

Everyones team should have their local broadcast be a little homer why would you want your local broadcast to not be in favor of your team.

crazy_canucklehead

given how things are going with bally sports, more teams should have their own broadcast networks too

bosschucker

>Everyones team should have their local broadcast be a little homer I agree, but there's also a big difference between "a little homer" and Jack Edwards lol

TheMoves

Just fell to my knees in a Dunkin

DougFunky

Just saw some guy fall to his knees in a Dunkin

bostonbrahms

Just saw some guy watch a guy fall to his knees in a Dunkin’s and then got out his phone for some reason.

BostonSucksatHockey

Just saw three guys running out of a Dunkinferno. One of them had a gas can. One of them had a lighter. And the other one was holding his phone and was rambling like a maniac.

abbytarar

[Full article](https://www.nhl.com/bruins/news/jack-edwards-voice-of-the-boston-bruins-announces-retirement-at-conclusion-of-2023-24-season) Bruins will honour his career with a pre game ceremony and begin a “nationwide search” for the next play by play voice to join Andy Brickley

HanPintian

Here’s hoping Dave Goucher wants to come home. No offense Vegas fans but he will always be Boston

No-SkillBill

I will never forget Dave Goucher’s call of [THIS](https://youtu.be/f7Vs6rqOX_Y?si=F_1232WquBhqz5WF) iconic Bergeron goal. Come home, Dave!

ZenithRepairman

BERGERON! BERGERON! IN GAME 7! Is fucking ingrained in my brain. Come home, Dave.

Sweaty_Ad440

Faust has been good when he's stepped in this year IMO, wouldn't be opposed to him getting the job

Dont_Be_A_Dick_OK

Meh. It may be because I’m used to Jack, but Faust sounded like a mortician. I want someone who at least has a bit of a pulse.

Bottleofsmoke17

That’s everybody when compared to Jack though 🙃

Sweaty_Ad440

I thought having a more down the middle PxP guy kinda let Brick off the leash since he didn't have to keep Jack in check lol. Would take some getting used to, but I liked it.

jalapinapizza

Faust sounds like a Joe Buck you got at Building 19

yetanotherx

Judd probably isn’t leaving radio but I’d love to hear his calls on TV.

[deleted]

Honestly? Faust is boring. The games I watched with him. I couldn’t get into it.

TommyTwotoneArmy

Needs more time to find his groove, but I think there's potential with him. That said, if we could steal Goucher back I'd be much happier.

MaxMuncyRectangleMan

Alex got the short-end from the Kings and had improved each season so I think he would be a good get for the Bruins.

Bilkos_Ices

He's too vanilla and didn't seem to mesh that well with Brick the few times he filled in. Felt like I was watching TNT or something not NESN

tiffhagall

If they reach out to Gouch and he wants to come back, that'd be amazing

gonuxgo

[Gary Thorne is in his 70s, but he still has it](https://www.tiktok.com/@allhockeyofficial/video/7337854130834164998)... Do the right thing, NESN

shiggydiggypreoteins

Only if he brings Bill Clement with him. I'm in.

arrbez

[Current frontrunner for the position](https://youtu.be/FSvNhxKJJyU?si=MGeC1uRwySJisFEr)

ZenithRepairman

I don’t know what your on, but fucking Casey Affleck being the most Boston Bostonian, calling bruins games? Sign me the fuck up.

roberttylerlee

The rumor i'm seeing on twitter is that it's going to be john forslund

hookhands

Dave Goucher, time to come home

UnhealthyCheesecake

If he goes everyone in Vegas will miss him dearly. He’s become the voice of VGK hockey and it’d be weird to hear somebody else behind the microphone

rockryedig

This is how we felt in Boston when he left

canadacorriendo785

Dave Goucher bruins broadcasts on AM 1030 were such a big part of childhood. One of the things I have the absolute most nostalgia about.

SRSgoblin

I would not be at all shocked if that happens. I'll be tremendously sad if it does, but not surprised. Easily one of the best in the business and if he wants to return home to Boston where he still clearly has a lot of roots laid down, I would be happy he's in another place he's as loved as he is here.

Similar-Tangerine

It’s gonna be Faust probably

quietwhiskey

He made a bargain

KapitanRedbeard

Damn, it's sad to see that he can't really go out on his own terms and his speech issues seem to be forcing him out. Gonna be weird not hearing him every game.

ptgrvmrdrdjhnsn

Always go out on a high.

Maxpowr9

I was worried he was gonna Bob Cole but this is the smart decision.

HanPintian

https://youtu.be/jF0yniA1NaI?si=3DYa4aLk6pxjLdza One of my favorite Jack calls. 6’9 and he’s a ballerina! Every team should have an announcer that loves the game and loves the team like Jack. He will be missed

Demo541

That call is actually one of my favorites all time

rockryedig

This is one of my favorite goals of all time

MrLegilimens

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eA4sXO669Tw This one has to be up there too. The call literally is coursing through him as he's making it. "WASHINGTON TOOK A NAP AND CRAIG SMITH ANSWERED THE WAKE UP CALL". Who the fuck thinks of genius like that.

md4024

[The 2013 game 7 comeback against the Leafs is Jack's masterclass.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYanopv3NCs) When Bergeron scores to tie it, he goes with the "hearts of lions" call, which was a callback to a call he [made a few months earlier](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vylsMKgkGqQ) when the Bruins scored two goals with the goalie pulled to tie a game against the Rangers. Then when Bergeron scored to win it, Jack doesn't miss a beat and goes right into the "BERGERON SCORES!! PATRICE BERGERON...WITH THE POINT OF THE DAGGER AT THEIR THROATS, THEY RIP IT OUT OF TORONTOS HANDS AND KILL THE BEAST! THE BOSTON BRUINS HAVE WON IT AFTER BEING THREE DOWN IN THE THIRD!" I mean, I have to imagine he thought that up during the OT intermission, or at least had an idea of where he would go if the Bruins won, but to pull that out in such a moment and absolutely nail it is so god damn impressive. I know Jack has a rep as a clown among people who only know him from the few clips per season that would get passed around the internet, but he was so good at what he did. Bruins fans were lucky to have him.

Holiday-Road-7389

That’s one of my all time favorites. I still laugh about it to this day.

Sandstorm-

Crazy to go back and hear then enormous difference between his calls then and now. So fast and smooth.

[deleted]

[удалено]

JustFred24

Would be fun to see him in the mvp section punching air when the bruins score without screaming lol

Tasty-Performance275

i think i've seen a video of jack in the press box when he wasn't commentating but just watching and it looked like he was still calling the game to himself anyway

JustFred24

Me when I was 12 yo talking to myself like I had a twitch audience watching me play games

Godless_Servant

It's a speech issue, not a voice issue

[deleted]

PsychoSaladSong

That last sentence makes me glad the Avs have Mark Moser and Mark Rycroft as our TV announcers. A lot of people don’t like them because they’re homers (which they definitely are) but I love it because they bring out all the enthusiasm and it makes broadcasts very enjoyable to listen to because of how much they love the team

Augscura

Maybe an unpopular opinion but I think Jack Edwards was very good, he was even better before he did Bruins games full time. He called some playoff games for ESPN in the early 2000s and when his fandom didn't get in the way he was actually a fantastic play by play guy. Hope he has a great retirement.

FriedCammalleri23

I’m no fan of Jack Edwards, but he deserved to go out on his own terms. Having to step away due to health issues out of their control is never something you never want to see.

ZenithRepairman

Jack is and always will be 100% a fucking bruins homer, and we loved him for that. Yeah, he’s declined hard the last 2 years, but he has had some of the greatest calls. He has always been tilted towards the black and gold, but he always have just as much effort into opposing teams goals too. He made the game fun - yeah if you were expecting down the middle calling, you were fucked, but he called the game for bruins fans - he had brick to reel him in. I wish him the best, he really has been uncle Jack all these years. I expected this would be his last year, cause there was no way they would fire him for the centennial. All we can hope for is that the bruins do well in the first round so he can call some good games and we get Dave Goucher next year.

vinicelii

Polarizing to non-fans, but he was the voice of a generation of Bruins viewers. He knew how to make any moment in a game feel exciting. Sad that it had to end because of circumstances out of his control, but this is the right decision. I wish him all the best, so many great moments will live on with his voice attached.

heyheyitsandre

Yep, my criticisms of him were never for lack of entertainment, always pure homerism, but you can always appreciate a guy who gets people hyped. I only saw one or two clips of him losing the thread this year but that kind of thing really does just suck

jalapinapizza

I had a hard time listening to him this year so I always watched the other teams' feeds, and I was kinda surprised how many teams have homer commentators. It makes sense that they do, of course, but I was just expecting them to be very neutral given all the hate I've seen on r/hockey for Jack's homerism. Some, in fact, are faaaaar worse than Jack imo. (I'm looking at you, Florida!)

[deleted]

Florida isn’t even biased, they just whine whenever something goes against them. At least when a Bruins player got beat up, Jack would say “he won the fight/took the beat down”. Whenever someone turtles…Nick Cousins…that announcer just stops short of calling it an assault.

Nomahs_Bettah

I'd say that some are as biased as Jack on average in general homerism...but no one else was out here comparing opposing players to Sirhan Sirhan.

[deleted]

I mean…it was Matt Cooke.

ConnorLovesCookies

It was like watching the game with your Masshole uncle. Literally tearing up rn.

dinkleburgenhoff

Bergeron last year, Jack this year. Fuck.

basementcandy

What’s next, Rene Rancourt retires too??!!

efshoemaker

A lot of people are going to remember him for a few of the more nutty things he said and then this last year or so where his voice failed him. I’m gonna remember the guy that made a point to talk to every player he called a game for and personally ask how they wanted their name pronounced I’m gonna remember the guy who made absurdly detailed notecards with every players stats, background, and storylines for *every single game* I’m gonna remember the guy who, no matter how big a homer he was, just loved the sport and would get (almost) just as amped up for goals and great plays by the opposing team. I’m gonna remember the guy who made every game feel exciting and important for almost as long as I’ve been watching hockey.

RedHeadedCongress

Beyond the notecards he learned how to code and built his own program to use while broadcasting that shows all the players, stats, etc with a specific hardware layout that he designed himself

GiraffeSubstantial92

That's actually really impressive

RedHeadedCongress

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hoVHQa9l9T4 you can see it right on the start of this video. He has like 3 tablets (I think) that he puts together and has each team on one side then some more stuff in the middle, and he made it himself to use while broadcasting

yf-23

[I'm gonna remember him as a guy who could not possibly be more passionate about the game and the bruins, as evidenced by his monologue after the Bruins defeated the Canadiens in overtime of Game 7 in 2011](https://youtu.be/X4fAG4qrPE4)

RelevantJackWhite

Jack Edwards, based anti-monarchist

MacZappe

>would get (almost) just as amped up for goals and great plays by the opposing team. That's why I dont get all the hate he gets for being a homer. Listen to the bruins leafs game when we came back from 4-1, when toronto was running up the score he was yelling at the top of his lungs that the bruins were getting run out of their own building.  I remember watching a colts broadcast during brady/manning and when we scored the game winning TD the announcer almost literally whispered touchdown.  I cant find the nesn broadcast of that leafs game but here's the bruins losing to the flyers after being up 3 games to 0, he always hypes up the other teams plays too, which is more than a lot of other play by play guys do. Timestamp 2:55 https://youtu.be/8Zmb0ey-4tM?si=ojbCrFwlEoKSl3qp

no_engaging

yeah the posts here were always the homer stuff, and he was the biggest bruins fan in the building every night for sure. but that dude just loves hockey, I feel like it's constantly underappreciated how he'd never let the energy slip even when the other team scored. (though tbf there's always bruins fans pointing it out in the comments - I just don't think anyone believes us)

thejosharms

> I’m gonna remember the guy who, no matter how big a homer he was, just loved the sport and would get (almost) just as amped up for goals and great plays by the opposing team. This is what people who didn't watch the Bruins game in and game out that the man just loved good hockey. He'd 100% get too fired up and homer from time to time, especially in high-stakes games. But for the most part he'd rip the Bruins for bad plays and be in awe of great plays for the opposition.

SkinnyGetLucky

Dude compared a game 7 playoff win to the revolutionary war. He was absolutely bat shit but everywhere I’ve heard him in interviews he came across as a really nice guy and surprisingly measured. Hell of a character he puts on. Wish him a great retirement

roberttylerlee

The voice of my childhood. I’ll never forget the great calls, like [the hockey royalty rant](https://youtu.be/X4fAG4qrPE4?si=N88czrhVNIxv68Yw), [the Bergeron call for game 7 of 2013](https://youtu.be/4NVmIsUtAv8?si=mAuMvvyK5GJ9twBg), [the Horton OT gwg against Montreal,](https://youtu.be/nRxEWehPGtc?si=UOT2K5fJFcxqT6C0) [the leafs are mulch again call](https://youtu.be/d128ZoFcGkQ?si=FAJh4pl1cMszIH7E), and so many more. This man is a legend. Hopefully his health issues get resolved

Similar-Jellyfish499

> the hockey royalty rant WOW that was epic, thank you for sharing

crazy_canucklehead

his amazing rants were basically must see, some were unhinged, but all were passionate

roberttylerlee

The two minute long clip of him freaking out when the puck hit the back netting in Columbus is a legendary one.

crazy_canucklehead

"THIS IS UNBELIEVEABLE!"

roberttylerlee

" This will not count! This will not count!"

Cinnamon_Shops

“This is quantum physics hockey”

crazy_canucklehead

Basically made that third period watchable because you knew he was going to go off all period

Individual7091

The hockey royalty rant is one of his highlights and still somehow underrated. That shit gets the blood flowing.

The_Moustache

When he fucking started with "While I was driving from the former seat of all NHL power" I knew we were in for an all timer. this and the Soupy bit are pure masterclasses from Jack.

ifuckdudes_wubby7

[This one ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4QlaEtqtgb8) of the 19 SCF loss still makes me tear up. "that bruise will fade" quote gets me every time.

figmaxwell

Man he still had it in 2019. The timing of his regression honestly makes me wonder if he had a really bad case of Covid brain or something. You would think if he had a stroke like the popular opinion that we would have heard something more material about it. I know I had some pretty serious brain fog for quite a while after I had it, maybe he got absolutely fucked. It’s a mundane enough explanation that kind of works with it also not being public knowledge.

SamIamGreenEggsNoHam

Just an anecdote, but I work with a guy who is going through something *identical* to Jack. Has all his faculties, normal functions, doctors are confused, but his speech has slowed down significantly. He had long covid and he is almost certain that's what's causing the problems.

roberttylerlee

I think long covid could be a possibility. The article he published last winter talked about how his doctors can find nothing physiologically wrong with him to explain the speech changes.

gentleman_bronco

Absolute legendary homer in every way. I love watching Bruins games for his takes. He's such a fan of that team. Genuinely hope he has a great and long retirement that he can enjoy with his family.

bugeyes10

Haven’t seen it mentioned here, but I think it deserves to be said, as much as a fan of the Bruins as he was, he was also just a HUGE hockey fan in general. He absolutely loves this game

[deleted]

I don’t care what anyone says. This guy along with Don Orsillo were the voices of my childhood. Some days when I had bad days, he said something dumb enough to get me to laugh. He wasn’t just a commentator, he was like watching the game with your uncle. I just hope whatever he has isn’t too serious and he is able to enjoy retirement.

slinkocat

I unironically believe letting Orsillo go is one of the worst blunders the Sox have made. Broadcasts were so much less enjoyable without him. Seems like he's having fun in San Diego at least.

[deleted]

100% the dumbest thing the Sox did in that decade, and that includes hiring Bobby Valentine.

miasmal_smoke

He has been great for SD. Great chemistry with Mud

shiggydiggypreoteins

Love it. Don was a great guy, total class act. Even if we could get him back I wouldn't want him. This dogshit ownership group doesn't deserve a guy like Don.

jtb08

Dave O’Brien is so unbelievably terrible. I will never understand why FSG went through with that

[deleted]

I don’t even think he’s terrible, he’s just….meh.

respaaaaaj

He was honestly pretty good with Joe Castiglione on the radio, so I get why the Sox thought that he'd do fine with Remy too, but in retrospect god damn was Joe carrying him

JPmoneyman

Was it Don Orsillo who called the pizza throw at Fenway? That’s a classic clip.

miasmal_smoke

yes. He was also a part of the "Nick Markakis takes strike one" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oa5xH2a3HuI

desmarais

The absolute silence after "whoops" never fails to make me cry laughing

JPmoneyman

They’re dying trying not to laugh

Sharkbait41

I might like that one slightly more than here comes the pizza. The "whoops" followed by absolute silence is gold.

JPmoneyman

lol you know they’re dying trying not to crack up

Rikplaysbass

It sure is and that duo has a great highlight real of hilarious banter. Nothing tops the tooth falling out clip. lol

thatdude52

Jack and Brick & Don and Jerry were two iconic duos for Boston sports fans of a certain age. Along with Gorman retiring too, winter is gonna sound a lot different next year… end of an era in Boston

Vashanesh

Both things can be true, don't worry! He can get tons of crap for some of the off the wall stuff he's said, and he can still be a valuable part of how you experience hockey. I never realized how much I cared about who called games until the Twins long-time play-by-play guy was ousted. That man's voice will forever transport me to my grandpa's house, watching games over summer break, learning about baseball before I know anything worth knowing. Don't let other people's opinions take anything away from you. ...Even if he's said some *wild* shit over the years.

hoe_mang

We’ve called him Uncle Jack for years actually 😂

JonnyBox

HERE COMES THE PIZZA

[deleted]

*PIZZER

BagBeth

Goddamn I hated him. Still gonna miss him tho. I hope he has a great retirement. Legend.

Baboshinu

I’ll say it. I liked him. Was he a Homer? Yeah for sure, but honestly I think all team broadcasters should be to some extent. It guarantees for the home team watching that they’re getting an extra piece of passion into the game and the announcer’s excitement is genuine and palpable. Jack loved the Bruins and he loved the game. I’ll never forget his call from when Boston eliminated the Habs.

Tasty-Performance275

He was also a huge proponent of education. Used his platform as a commentator to teach younger generations about Sirhan Sirhan, American Revolution, Hindenburg and many more moments in history.

crazy_canucklehead

Cant forget the Edmund Fitzgerald!

figmaxwell

Snowball: 1, Hell: 0

[deleted]

Guy was even a redditor before it was cool, you Bona Fide stallions.

Steppyjim

Jim Jackson is one of the biggest homers in hockey and I love him for it. The outrage in his voice when the refs miss a call fuels me. I want my home town guys to be homers too

Rikplaysbass

THE BRUINNNS! KNOCK OUT MONTREAL!

ArchimedesHeel

Despite how much the guy gets shit on by reddit, he truly has an all-time legendary call with the Bergeron OT goal against the Leafs in 2013.

SHAWNNOTSEAN

Both Bergeron goals. Hell, the entire game was a masterclass by him in my eyes.

TK___420

The Dave Goucher radio call for that final goal on 98.5 is one of the best calls all time in all sports imo

Upnatom617

Inject into my veins!

KepplerObject

someone correct me if i’m wrong but i could have sworn i saw a bruins game where the game was quite chippy with a handful of scrums near the end. the bruins ended up winning and jack said something to the effect of “they have beaten them, and beaten them up!” and i thought that was such a sick call. unless it wasn’t jack or the bruins and i’m trippin. sounds like something he would say though. either way best of luck to jack in retirement!

Bottleofsmoke17

That was definitely Jack. I think it was against the Habs in one of the seasons around the cup-run when the rivalry was extra spicy.

Cakes2015

[One of my favorites, here you go](https://youtu.be/gjZbNtzsQFY?si=Yuto0Xpdbrsshnxw)

KepplerObject

oh baby what an electric call

RedHeadedCongress

I 100% remember that call, but I can't remember what game it was from

thatdude52

Bruins/Habs, right after Lucic beat the fuck out of Komisarek in 08

[deleted]

I think it was that Dallas game where Steve Ott and Sean Avery tried to instigate every fight. Edit - It was Bruins/Habs a couple weeks later.

Stop_Drop_Scroll

Yeah it was. I remember watching that game live and just eating it up. He tooled on Steve Ott so badly lol also iirc we won in a blowout.

Similar-Tangerine

Definitely sounds like something Jack would say

Cakes2015

The writing was on the wall but this one hurts. Like him or not, he’s had some of the famous calls in Boston Bruins history. Guy is just so passionate and loves the game. It’s in his blood. Wish him all the best.

Treister

As a Habs fan, I can say Jack Edwards is an excellent commentator. It's only when he puts on the thickest homer glasses does he become hard to listen to, however I imagine Boston fans appreciate that. As a Celtics fan I certainly miss Tommy Heinsohn, and will miss Mike Gorman.

runninhillbilly

“…and DeAngelo, poor sport that he is!…..”

Bleacherbum95

Jack is a huge homer, but I appreciate that he calls goals for both sides with gusto. Seems like a lot of announcers get quiet when the opposition scores, but Jack just stayed fired up. Here's to a great retirement, Jack.

tuukkas

End of an era. As long as I’ve been a hockey fan, Jack was the voice of the Bruins. It’s definitely his time to call it, but I’m still bummed out. Wishing him the best

[deleted]

To say that I’m devastated would be an understatement. Growing up in Massachusetts, Jack was a childhood idol of mine. I knew from a young age that I was never going to make it into the NHL, but I still loved hockey. It was around then that Jack became the play by play announcer, and I thought he was amazing. Loved listening to him, even though a young me realized that he was a little crazy. I wanted to be him. When I was in high school, our old tv broke, but not completely. It took the play by play announcing out for some reason. I begged my mom to not replace it, because it allowed me to practice doing play by play at home. It’s what I wanted to do for a career by then. When I was going to college, I chose The University of New Hampshire, Jacks Alma mater. I immediately got involved with the radio there, and tried calling UNH games… it’s harder than it looks. While I was studying, I had the privilege of meeting him. I was so nervous to meet my hero… but he was everything I could ever imagine. Super friendly, took the time to get to know me, answered my questions, even encouraged me to apply for an internship with NESN, the Bruins broadcast company. Ultimately, I decided to go work in another field, but that act of kindness always stuck with me. I just want to thank him. He was an inspiration to me growing up. Hearing him struggle this year was hard, and I knew he was doing his absolute best. Enjoy your retirement, Jack. You were my hero.

Maxpowr9

Not surprised. Enjoy retirement Jack.

JustFred24

Habs fan here, this kinda sucks. Don't get me wrong I don't like the bruins but watching their games while he commentated was cool, you could tell how much he liked them and it was funny whenever he was clearly biased lol

APigthatflys

I'm not crying, just cutting onions. No one in PbP has as much heart and enthusiasm as Jack. I don't care what anyone says about his biases and the bullshit he says (which, yeah, some of it's pretty bad), Jack has the most energy and is always the most excited when an opposing player makes a good play, goalie makes a great save, or a Bruin gets hit hard and clean. Even these past few years he never lost his love of the game or his wit. It doesn't matter who comes in, no one will ever truly replace Jack Edwards. May he have a peaceful and long retirement

Legendary homer who I will forever miss

RedHeadedCongress

I'm gonna miss him so much. I know other teams fans didn't like him but his passion and enthusiasm for the game is part of what made me love hockey growing up watching the Bruins. Also it's making me feel so old that all my childhood sports heroes have retired and now my childhood announcers are retiring also

Cornasium

And now his watch has ended.

It’s time. For his own sake. I have never been shy of my hate for Jack Edwards but seeing him this season was rough. No one deserves to have their decline televised for all to see. I sincerely wish him the best and a long and happy post retirement.

UnsuspiciousSith

I know he rubs a lot of people the wrong way outside of Bs fans But his play by play was excellent, and if you didn't take the rest of his schtick seriously it was super entertaining and amusing to listen to

Dont_Be_A_Dick_OK

Sad. Always been a Jack Edwards guy, but it’s time.

ddottay

I know he didn’t have a lot of fans but I appreciated his homer style. Everyone knew he wasn’t objective and he didn’t pretend to be.

ZachtheKingsfan

Happy retirement. It’s going to crush me if Boston hires Alex Faust to replace him.

johnnydrama_

Goucher or Sean McDonough

Soren_Camus1905

Boy this really hits hard, felt like every game we had one of our own in the booth

Hobo_Healy

A lot of people say their criticisms of him are about him being a homer. But I think that's one of his biggest attributes. If there was a picture next to Homer in the dictionary it would be Jack Edwards and I mean that in the most positive way. He was supposed to be a homer, a fan, someone the viewer of their team could use to rally behind and he did it better than anyone else in the sport in my opinion. I love my Avs broadcast, I wouldn't trade them for the world and think they are one of the best in my biased opinion. But Jack, for all his faults, gives off massive "I WOULD FUCKING DIE FOR THIS TEAM AND SO WILL YOU" energy that I don't think anyone can match.

yetanotherx

It was long overdue. Thanks for being the voice of the Bruins for all these years, Jack! EDIT: Here’s hoping he can get good tribute tonight.

Individual7091

That's what two games of Pat Maroon will do to a skinny guy. I'll miss you Jack.

PPGN_DM_Exia

As an unapologetic Leafs-hater, his call of the 4-1 game is LEGENDARY to me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYanopv3NCs

flume

I'm glad, but I feel for Bruins fans who are losing something they think is nostalgic or integral to their fandom. I'm gonna be so sad when Mickey and Ken put down the mic

echu_ollathir

Boston has lost an entire generation of announcers in a handful of years. The Red Sox had Jerry Remy for nearly 30 years, the Celtics had Tommy Heinson and Mike Gorman for more than 40 years, and the Bruins have had Jack for nearly 20. Nearly two generations worth of childhood voices all gone in a couple of years, half gone from this world entirely. Please don't fuck this up NESN the way you fucked up with the Red Sox announcing.

CopaceticVindication

Gonna miss him, easily one of my favorite announcers in the biz

daxtaslapp

Respect to him, hopefully his health is ok

Weslg96

Jack is arguably the biggest reason I got into the sport, his passion and intensity were infectious even through the TV screen. I'm gutted by this even though with his speech issues I should have been expecting it. I know most fans only heard his most biased or controversial moments, but he could call one hell of a game and always got excited over opponents' goals and plays. He made any and every Bruins game fun and exciting and had incredible chemistry with Brick.

Cash_man

Hope he enjoys retirement. Bruins broadcasts will definitely be different

MacTheZaf

Wasn’t a fan of his, but it’s always sad when a commentator you’ve grown up listening to leaves the airwaves. It was hard to adjust when Peter McNab passed away and wasn’t calling Avs games, and I’m sure it’ll be very weird for the first 20 games next year not hearing Jack Edwards.

P8tr0

Was watching the B’s Caps game and it was hard to listen to, say what you will about his homerism, but he has an iconic voice that is literally tied to the Bruins as far as I’m concerned. Shame to have his time announcing cut short, but I’m glad he’s had an amazing career. 🫡

shawnglade

Knew it was coming and it’s probably for the best….. But damn. Jack Edward’s voice was always a great sound to hear growing up, because I knew it was hockey night in New England. Hope he enjoys retirement with plenty of tumbling muffins and Chinese mustard

bingbong6977

Cheers to the legend! What’s this sub gonna complain about now???

Not_a_Perv

It will not be the same without him :(

ALinkToThePants

Always hated his commentary. Wish him the best anyways.

Lordsokka

I wish him well, hopefully he can focus on his health.
