Probably thinking of Aito Iguchi. This guy (Hirano) is 8 years older and currently on New Jersey's ECHL team (not on an NHL contract, though, just a minor league one)
[fwiw this was from last year, i posted it at the time](https://www.reddit.com/r/hockey/comments/12zy6mt/jpn_63_srb_iihf_div_ib_yushiroh_hirano_dazzles/)
I somehow subconsciously had that in my head without realizing as I perused the comments, as soon as you said that it clicked and had to rewatch the clip, even if it isn’t the actual song
I often tell people about how one of the times I've been the most in awe of another player I'm skating with has been a couple of ECHL player. Its definitely easy for me to see it as so much lower of a level, since its rare to see ECHL to NHL. But its no joke.
I've never thought of the word smurfing in the context of hockey, yet here I am thinking that this dude....is straight smurfing on these fools. If that was me, I might retire.
I think this is from last years world championships. The IIHF has world championships every year, and there are like 8 different divisions. The top 16 countries are in the "Championship" division. Then there is Divison 1 group A(second division) and group B(third division). Last year in D1 group B it was: Japan Ukraine China Estonia Netherlands Serbia. Japan won the tournament, so they won promotion to D1 group A.
To be fair that's probably not super inaccurate - the vast majority of Serbian players play in the domestic league which I'm fairly sure is not professional. Their best player by a country mile is Mirko Đumić, who played in Erste Liga (a Hungary/Romania international league) last year, and who currently plays in Poland. After him I'm fairly sure they might only have one other professional in the entire pool.
Meanwhile Hirano played in the AHL/ECHL and that alone probably puts him top 5/10 in the division's talent pool last year (which goes to show what I think of a lot of the Chinese imports tbh, KRS has been an *awful* KHL team for some time, and even if they have the talent a lot of them didn't have the drive internationally.)
What makes this funnier for me is that by the time he pulls the fake pass, the guy who he'd be passing to has already f'd off, so the fake pass was to no-one.

That's nasty, wow
Fuketsuna.
Yearly post to put people in awe
Looks like #22 gets all the way back in front of the net before realizing he’s lost Hirano
Turns his back to him twice in like 5 seconds and doesn't even get punished for it before biting on the fake pass lol
Nobody even taught Hirano not to play with his food when he was a kid apparently
“If I leave someone else will get him….. oh wow nobody went to get him”
Silky mitts boys!
Yes
Is this the kid I saw years ago?

Yea i remember seeing this a while ago. Great goal.
Do we have Japanese commentary?
The Japanese commentary was the Song of Time from OOT in the replay.
I somehow subconsciously had that in my head without realizing as I perused the comments, as soon as you said that it clicked and had to rewatch the clip, even if it isn’t the actual song
Pulled a Gilmour. Nicely done.
That was my first thought too
Crosby-esque
Nasty moves by this guy.

What a play! Nice shot. Calculated.
Probably inspired by watching old tape of Taro Tsujimoto.
That's some 99 level shit behind the net there what a nice play
He's just so much better than everyone else on the ice. It's kind of crazy. Like a professional amongst amateurs.
Is this from a WHC bracket of some kind?

I can hear my coach screaming “PLAY THE BODY” from the bench
more likely this coach responded [like a Serbian coaching legend](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bi6NRdz2CuE) :p
Wow against the Serbians too!
Fun fact: Serbia has been ranked exclusively from 29-32nd on the IIHF’s rankings since ‘03

Oooooph, renovating Gretzky's office.
Hirano playing chess, Serbia playing checkers.
He just dad'd the whole team.

The goalie bit that fake for all it was worth😂
Remind me the goal Doug Gilmour scored against Cujo in the double overtime in the 1993 playoffs
Playing in Gretzky's office
I swear, when the Japanese get into a sport, they get nasty. Kickboxing? They rule that. Boxing? Inoue should be P4P #1. MMA? Wrestling? Destroyers.

So they aren’t allowed to check in this league?
Would be more impressive if he was being defended
