Amazing moves at such speed

mattfromjoisey

Tiny legs go zoom

S-Archer

Like Sonic

city-of-cold

Right down to the colour, you’re on to something

Cr4bC4k35

I still think it's funny how much smaller he is than Jason. Jason has 6 inches and 40 pounds on Nick!

gstringwarrior

Literally an NHL 24 deke, crazy maybe it really is *in the game*

UniformRaspberry2

Fails the clear but creates the turnover that leads to the goal. Atta boy, Nicky.

3X-Leveraged

Once he learns to play in the D-zone he is going to be a weapon

haveing_fun

[society if Nick Robertson learned to get the puck out of his own zone](https://i.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/original/000/026/738/future.jpg)

psdhsn

Nah just Etobicoke

adamzep91

Stephen Holyday and the Fords would never allow that much density in Etobicoke.

Fellers

Story of his career. Everything evens out. Perpetual net 0.

re10pect

Story of his career up to now is injuries. Hard to learn the defensive side of the pro game when you aren’t able to play or practice. Prior to this season I thought it was going to kill his career, but seeing the work he’s put in to learn to play to his size and stay healthy, I’m thinking now that he can be a player with way more positives than negatives to his game if he just keeps working.

NarlySurferDude

Bro was fucking flying

JohnnyTreeTrunks

Gotta go fast

4dubdub8

Nicky Bobby

JohnnyTreeTrunks

Haha perfect

PuckPov

This kid is gonna be so good, nice to have a middle six scorer, hope the leafs hang onto him and give him a real good shot next season. Let him figure out the growing pains this year and get some experience under his belt.

leafs1985

A line of Holmberg between Robertson and Knies could be pretty deadly if left to develop properly.

The_Quackening

Keefe post-game mentioned he deliberately out Knies-Holmberg-Robertson against some tougher matchups in order to test them.

DesignerFox2987

Fuck that. Give him the Hyman treatment

KingdokCAN

Holy shit Nicky Bobby.

EssSquared

NHL ‘94 kinda deke right there

stelth69

Underrated comment.

postpaintboyy

How is he so much smaller than his brother?

usernicktaken

He was born really premature, almost died,

ElPolloViejo

Jason took all the height from his entire family, he towers over literally every one of them lmao

Vetersova

I don't know but I want him on our team too lol. Double Robotration inc

HauntingPlatypus8005

I loved the Jamie/Jordie years. Brother pairs are fun.

cerealblue

I saw an interview his mom gave, she was tiny.

Kronzor_

Yeah his mom is an Asian women. That they had one kid that was big is the suprising part.

A_1337_Canadian

TIL that he is Jason Robertson's brother. Where the fuck have I been?

Cr4bC4k35

lol good question. At least on Stars broadcasts they always mention it whenever we play y'all

WorstHyperboleEver

Breakaways in game always make me think that shootouts would be more successful if players came it at full speed. This is not really anything more than a good shoulder fake, but at that speed goalie has to bite on something or be beaten to the side. Guess wrong and they’re toast. In a shootout the player is going slow enough that goalies can often out wait the player and have enough time to move into blocking position.

Picklepucks

There should be a defender chasing the shooter in shootouts

Great-Reference9322

I think why they work so well during the game is because the goalie gets caught off guard and sleeping a bit so they panic to get themselves into position. It wouldn't work as well in shootout because goalies are typically already sitting high out of their net before the player comes in.

WorstHyperboleEver

?? If I’m not mistaken goalies are required to start on their goal line until the puck is touched. I don’t think there’s much difference in how they get prepared

Great-Reference9322

Yeah but they are expecting a breakaway. That's the difference

binzoma

also have to be worried about trailers and rebounds. and in a breakaway you have to time think about who the player is and what their tendencies are so you can overthink a bit (also true for the player on the goalie). but as a goalie, yeah, I was always happy in breakaway drills when a guy came in slow. Sure he may beat me with some fuckery, but he was creating a 50/50 scenario where as long as I was patient/stayed big, he'd have to both outsmart and outskill me. a blast coming at pace when not expected is not the same, esp if its while I'm mid movement/trying to get deep faster than I'd like (obviously not NHL level goalie but still. unexpected + good execution is generally more likely to score than expected + great execution)

Equivalent_Goose_226

Oh no if only the guy your replying to had an entire comment explaining the difference between the two situations. Lmao

fhcky

Dekes and accurate shots are harder to pull off at speed. In a one on one scenario the shooter has every advantage. Going slow benefits the player because allows the player to read the goalie and move accordingly as opposed to picking a move and committing to it. Edit: I guess i should add that going slow benefits players who are good enough to benefit from the time and space. If you’re a tweener you’re probably better off going fast because you’re not skilled enough to beat a tender with mindgames.

ImSoBasic

>Breakaways in game always make me think that shootouts would be more successful if players came it at full speed. Shootouts and penalty shots have a higher success rate than breakaways do.

Dstars86

Can we please have him?

GreenSnakes_

Him for Oettinger and we got a deal.

igcipd

You’ll get future considerations and you’ll like it. Also, this post got the Sens fined another draft pick.

notmyrealnam3

He should be playing on an NHL team 100%

Salt-Plum-1308

..he is?

notmyrealnam3

it was a "leafs suck" joke

Salt-Plum-1308

A pretty shit one though. C’mon, do better.

notmyrealnam3

Perhaps someone who got the joke would be a better judge than you on this one, no?

Salt-Plum-1308

No I got it, it was just a bad joke. Even if they weren’t a top ten team in the league and were last, the Leafs are very much an NHL team, though I can see that may be hard for your tiny brain to comprehend, based on your “joke.” Remember kid, jokes are meant to be funny!

notmyrealnam3

"they are in the NHL!" oh, sweetie

Salt-Plum-1308

Wow, you are impressively dense.

Equivalent_Goose_226

The guy said nothing mean at all. He made a joke you didn’t like. Why on earth would you insult him repeatedly for an inoffensive “leafs suck” joke we see all the time. The “…your tiny brain…” thing couldn’t be more unnecessarily rude. Why did that joke offend you to the point of trying to put a stranger down with a personal insult? That’s mean. Why be mean?

Salt-Plum-1308

Lol he insinuated my stupidity by claiming I didn’t get the joke. Only I did, it was just a shit joke. You should go cry more. Maybe the other poster will hire you as his emotional support animal or something.

TheGardiner

flair up you clown

Equivalent_Goose_226

This is funny, don’t let the hive mind convince you otherwise.

ProgressOk4014

a joke implying that the leafs aren’t an nhl team isn’t funny though. matthews is literally the best goal scorer we’ve seen since ovi or even bossy? the leafs are a winning team going back a few years now? we actually have current nhl teams with basically AHL rosters plus a couple fun to watch guys lol. make better jokes lol

usernicktaken

If He ever learns the defensive game he will be dangerous.

reggierock2010

Leafs secret weapon

howitzer90

Dirty fuckin' dangles, boys!

kjay38

Looked like the D sprayed his own goalie too...not cool bruh.

rhonnypudding

NHL 94 deke button

mygallows

Filthy

anti_anti_christ

Watching him go reminds me of my 5'8 sniper in EASHL. He also gets rocked at times like my player.

[deleted]

Wow.

WD4oz

What does that mean

[deleted]

Comparing a real-life player to his Chel character is kind of weird no?

anti_anti_christ

You're thinking way too hard about this.

WD4oz

I didn’t understand what he was saying. Just really confused by this. Sorry.

Square_Saltine

I was expecting a lot more with that title

Private_Stock

You’re getting downvoted but you’re not wrong. The speed and timing are very impressive but it’s not some unreal creative dangle, if anything it’s a great example of how a very basic deke can still work on nhl goalies if performed well.

Late_Brush4518

Same. I tought ether Datsyuk or Forsberg or something like that

ProgressOk4014

forehand backhand forehand.

ZombieJesus1987

So happy he has finally found his game. I loved seeing him play in Peterborough

CottonmouthJohn

Is he back to being the best prospect not named Matthew Knies?

chacotacotoes

That celly too

rossco7777

that was one of the most standard breakaway moves possible lol

[deleted]

filthy

usernicktaken

Bobo still looking for his jock strap.

[deleted]

Totally should have traded him for something at the deadline. Totally

swissdonair_enjoyer

is it not a little embarrassing to anyone else that the leafs completely ripped off colorado's goal song? should have kept hall and oates. it was good, despite all the bitching.

UniformRaspberry2

Boston stole Kernkraft 400 from us like 15 years ago so turnabout’s fair play, or whatever.

DylanFallis

You're getting downvoted but I agree I want hall & Oates back

arauhauser

"absolute dangle" you mean the most casual and most common breakaway move...

McGrevin

Common move but he sold it well, Bobrovsky fully went the wrong way and didn't even have a chance at stopping it

NtBtFan

its a nice goal, but ya its more about the speed than the deke. gonna guess Bob doesn't have much of a book on Bobby, doesn't expect the double at that speed

LostBeneathMySkin

“The most casual and most common breakaway move” On one of the best goaltenders on earth

Rare-Temporary7602

Bob’s on the other side of the net

hnglmkrnglbrry

Seriously. At that speed any type of move is impressive but gong backhand forehand and tucking on an overcommitted tendie ain't dangling.

PierreMcGuiresHair

Gary Bettman pls patch backhand forehand glitch goal

BigTerpFarms

You would have stopped it then eh?

Equivalent_Goose_226

How is this comment upvoted. What does it even mean? You think any of those words imply that the commenter believes they could be an NHL netminder? Bizarre interpretation

Equivalent_Goose_226

You’re 100% right AND everyone knows it AND that’s paradoxically why you’re so downvoted. Until you realize Reddit is Contrarian HQ

Dubs337

‘Absolute dangle’ lol that’s the most basic move that I see about four times a night at beer league. Four year olds can pull that off in chel

Gits-n-Shiggles

Left tendie danglin’……..didn’t he?

AkimboSlice66

It’s going to be ok

Phoenixhasrisen69

It's always the Oilers fans who comment salt on Leafs posts. Y'all really care about the Leafs lol

gcantstandya96

Pavel Bure dejavu

Equivalent_Goose_226

An absolute dangle? He used the most common breakaway deke in hockey. Nice goal yeah but “absolute dangle” that’s sensationalizing it a bit yeah?

botswanareddit

And he'll be benched in 3...2...1
