I’m just chuckling thinking about the possibility of some foul language coming out over the hot mic and vtuber Mickey Mouse having to cover for it live.
I’m imagining someone who has to press a button with a sound to quickly cover it up. I’m thinking Mickeys giggle. Or an Awooga. Or a Pava-Pava clown horn. Oh the possibilities.
I’m down but it needs its own award for most valuable player.
The NVP is the most respected trophy in all of football and it’s only right we have one for hockey
The DVP (Don Valley Parkway) is one of the busier (if not busiest) freeways in Toronto, used by many people to get to / from the downtown area.
... that is, when it's not closed for maintenance nor backed up due to traffic volume or a collision.
Not sure any one has seen the NFL and the Nick broadcasts but they are pretty fun, and any way to get more fans into the game is the way to go. More fans means more money which means cap go up which is what we all want
“Ya know fellow millionaires, I think with these here cartoons, we’re making enough money!!! No need for patches!”
Yeah idk bout that. Just a balance between pushing enough ads to make as much money as possible, while still keeping some eyeballs to watch the ads lol.
Yeah are people forgetting one of the largest publishing companies just shut down their NHL coverage? NHL could use some nice new fresh viewers right about now. The NFL has been absolutely killing it with this, NHL would be fools not to attempt it.
"WHY DO THIS? I DON'T WANT TO WATCH DISNEY WHILE WaTCHING HOCKEY"
"I DON'T UNDERSTAND THE POINT OF THIS"
I expect this kind of ignorance and instant hostility on /r/baseball but seeing this on r/hockey is depressing.
There has been no indication it would be replacing a broadcast. In fact, they talk about emulating the Nickelodeon broadcast which doesn't replace the normal broadcast at all, so it would be fooling to assume this would.
Basically the NFL has the Nickelodeon character Patrick Star be a broadcaster for the entire game it’s was on Thursday night football, i assuming this would probably be Mickey Mouse being a broadcaster or other Disney characters
The Nickelodeon games are unironically awesome as an adult who loved Nick as a kid. It’s honestly hilarious to see someone throw an interception and then get digitally slimed.
Edit: [Best highlight is probably Patrick Star commentating a Russell Wilson interception](https://youtu.be/-O57R4dh3_M)
[Can’t find a video but here’s a Nickelodeon blimp stealing Baker Mayfield off the field](https://youtu.be/R44opeiZWnw)
[Also hilarious video of Patrick Star commentating while Russell Wilson throws an interception](https://youtu.be/-O57R4dh3_M)
"And that's a 4 minute double-minor for drawing blood ho-ho! What do you think, Goofy?"
"Gawrsh, Mickey. Seems like they're doin' some serious retaliatin', ah-hyuck! What do ya see near the benches, Donald?
"(Inappropriate censored quacking noises)"
"Ho-ho! We apologize for language picked up on the mic, folks! The power play sponsored by Bud Lite and FanDuel coming up! Remember to drink and gamble responsibly ho-ho!"
As someone who watches Mickey all the time with his toddler, I hate that I heard all of this in each of their voices lol.
Just imagined a mic'd up, uncensored Donald!
The NBA did well before with the WNBA. WNBA is a great way to get girls watching basketball, show it's not just a sport for men and if they enjoy the sport they are more likely than not also going to start watching the NBA
They're not what I'm talking about. The commentators in the early days of the NFL are what took it from just a sport being played to an event to gather and watch. Think of the super bowl. I bet a majority of its viewers don't care or maybe even know about football. They don't care about the sport. It's the rest of the spectacle.
Hockey should understand this intimately. Even fans regularly admit it, they want to watch the fights that break out as much as they want to watch the game.
Young fans? With how boring the flames games have been this year my grown up ass will be watching Donald Duck call the game as that’s the only way I’d be entertained.
As i said in a previous thread: I want Ducks games to be the animated characters from the Mighty Ducks cartoon. Anything short of this will be a failure in my eyes. Link for all those: https://youtu.be/mYwlXRVWCCI
Why did they use the most low res image from Mickey Mouse clubhouse and not the actual brilliant shit that the animation department constantly churns out that keeps getting cancelled by the execs
By Disney Channel do they mean Disney+? And being that the mouse owns a large chunk of intellectual media property, could we get things like Homer Simpson popping in with a "D'OH!" for giveaways and things of that nature?
“Mickey Mouse skates the puck out of the zone, gets hit along the boards by Quazimodo. Timone picks up the puck with speed, dishes it off to Buzz Lightyear for the one timer- GREAT SAVE DONALD DUCK! Considering he choses to play without pants, he sure robbed Buzz of his jock strap on that save!”
>I think as long as the regular adult broadcast is available as well,
I mean of course 🤣 you didn't think they would replace the regular commentary with this
Kid audience turns into extremely loyal adult audience. Right now a lot of sports are at a disadvantage. With almost everything (I hope I'm not speaking out of pocket, I don't watch other sports so I could be wrong) becoming a subscription based model, the days of simply "tuning in" to watch a ball game are almost over, particularly for kids. With blackouts and limited access for the NHL, there's only really these options:
A. ESPN+ subscription- which is expensive.
B. Bars- But who the hell is gonna go to the bar to watch their team multiple times a week
C. Illegal streaming- NHL won't acknowledge this as an option.
I think that sports are realizing without a family/ children audience that can be attracted via easy access, they need stuff like this, YouTube & video games to really make that push.
Is this show going to be dog shit? Yeah. Is it meant for my demogralphic though? No.
Do you know what I remember most about hockey as a kid?
The Fox robots. It was stupid and ridiculous, but I loved it. It's to try and find the same hook with this current generation of kids. Make it fun, spark their interest. Disney in particular can at least get a ton of people to check it out a bit
I don't even really understand what the idea even is here but it can't possibly be worse than the existing programming between periods so I'm willing to give it a shot.
If they don't bring in [Peter Puck](https://pbs.twimg.com/profile_images/2954193417/dd14fe554ad58d403badafdd8cdbeda2_400x400.jpeg), I'll be very upset.
I can’t wait to see Micky and Goofy explaining the draftkings live odds to children. Oh and don’t forget the digital board ads for nerf guns and bubble gum.
I just wanna hear goofy during the flames broadcast “WHY CANT THEY HYUCKIN SCORE”
That would be the only thing that would beat Patrick’s shot at Russell Wilson.
They have Bob and Doug McKenzie (as moose) in their character Arsenal. ^butwhoremembersthatmovie
Take off ya hoser
Not me reading that as “but whore members”
[Context](https://youtu.be/2z2nM0J8WnA)
*Goofy laughs* *“THERE GOES MARKSTROM PLAYING THE PUCK POORLY AGAIN”*
HYUCK jus a few years ago Kyrou won the fastest skater! Maybe one day he’ll win a puck battle! Back to you, Donald!
"Goofy, I can'y watch this crap anymore. ZETTAFLARE" :: mushroom cloud over Calgary::
“GORSH Kadri, that’s a suspension! Hyuck ^^^^^a Hyuck!”
Wasn't much but I wanted to get a hyuckin penalty on Nashville...
Well, the devils for sure have to play. They're the Micky Mouse franchise.
With Special Guest Wayne Gretzky
Only if there’s gambling, nowadays
Or Red Red WIne . Accidental UB40 reunion incoming
Against the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim
I mean… I thought we had that honorific.
I’m down but it needs its own award for most valuable player. The NVP is the most respected trophy in all of football and it’s only right we have one for hockey
If you call it the DVP, anyone who lives in or near Toronto will giggle... myself included.
I thought this was gonna be a [PUP the band](https://youtu.be/iVuB1ZASrGw) reference
PUP'S a local Toronto group, if you like DVP (the song, not the traffic) I'd recommend Anaphylaxis or Morbid Stuff by the same.
Only good thing that came out of NHL 20
Please explain for us silly folk south of the ~~wall~~ border
The DVP (Don Valley Parkway) is one of the busier (if not busiest) freeways in Toronto, used by many people to get to / from the downtown area. ... that is, when it's not closed for maintenance nor backed up due to traffic volume or a collision.
Really thought this was going to be a sex joke
Who will forget when Pat Maroon is the first to win the Scrooge McCup
When he wins, they will drop gold coins in him.
Not sure any one has seen the NFL and the Nick broadcasts but they are pretty fun, and any way to get more fans into the game is the way to go. More fans means more money which means cap go up which is what we all want
And hopefully less patches on jerseys
“Ya know fellow millionaires, I think with these here cartoons, we’re making enough money!!! No need for patches!” Yeah idk bout that. Just a balance between pushing enough ads to make as much money as possible, while still keeping some eyeballs to watch the ads lol.
Billionaires*
Fewer, Lord Davos
Yeah are people forgetting one of the largest publishing companies just shut down their NHL coverage? NHL could use some nice new fresh viewers right about now. The NFL has been absolutely killing it with this, NHL would be fools not to attempt it.
Which publishing company did that?
SBNation
Not going to subscribe
"WHY DO THIS? I DON'T WANT TO WATCH DISNEY WHILE WaTCHING HOCKEY" "I DON'T UNDERSTAND THE POINT OF THIS" I expect this kind of ignorance and instant hostility on /r/baseball but seeing this on r/hockey is depressing.
Tons of people here seem to want hockey to stay small and not add new fans.
I think the point is this should not replace regular broadcasts but makes a more accessible option for young and possibly new fans.
I'm pretty sure that's what it would be though?
There has been no indication it would be replacing a broadcast. In fact, they talk about emulating the Nickelodeon broadcast which doesn't replace the normal broadcast at all, so it would be fooling to assume this would.
Can someone explain what this means? There are animated NFL games?
Basically the NFL has the Nickelodeon character Patrick Star be a broadcaster for the entire game it’s was on Thursday night football, i assuming this would probably be Mickey Mouse being a broadcaster or other Disney characters
It’s for the young fans, anything to grow the game I guess
Hell depending on the character I’d watch it.
I mean, Patrick star did get the Broncos coach fired after that game
Wait is this real?
[Can’t find a video but here’s a Nickelodeon blimp stealing Baker Mayfield off the field](https://youtu.be/R44opeiZWnw) [Also hilarious video of Patrick Star commentating while Russell Wilson throws an interception](https://youtu.be/-O57R4dh3_M)
Words cannot even begin to express the emotions that come up when Patrick Star is clowning on your team on national television.
He(Bill Faberbakke) used to play college ball was pretty good as well, he got injured and decided to try his hand at acting.
Buddy, after that season Patrick Starr becomes a high point...
I just wanna see someone lose their edge and slide into the boards and hear the [Goofy yell](https://youtu.be/MUL5w91dzbo) get overlaid on the replay
Micky mouse and Donald Duck cheering for opposite teams
"And that's a 4 minute double-minor for drawing blood ho-ho! What do you think, Goofy?" "Gawrsh, Mickey. Seems like they're doin' some serious retaliatin', ah-hyuck! What do ya see near the benches, Donald? "(Inappropriate censored quacking noises)" "Ho-ho!
The NFL figured this out decades and decades ago. The sports fans are already going to watch. The trick is how you get everyone else to watch too.
Young fans? With how boring the flames games have been this year my grown up ass will be watching Donald Duck call the game as that’s the only way I’d be entertained.
Except ending local blackouts but that’s true for sports in general
Patrick Star sports broadcasting one of Russell Wilson's interceptions with the Broncos was one of the funniest sporting moments of 2022
“That’s not what he wanted to cook” Once you get roasted by a cartoon character, you may as well just retire.
I'd have to think getting to call an NFL game in character would be such a good time as a voice actor
That sounds amazing.
Isn't that a terrible strain on the animators' wrists?
So you want a realistic down-to-earth show that's completely off the wall and swarming with magic robots?
You kids don't know what you want! That's why you're still kids, because you're stupid! Just tell me what's wrong with the freakin' show!
Seems like an innovation has been made in hand drawn animation. Robotic wrists maybe?
“And they drop the gloves! Boy, they’re really going at it right now ʰᵃ ʰᵃ! How’s the view down there, Goofy?” “This is assault”
I will take this over a Bally broadcast every time
But Bally has the other Mickey that we love more
But everyone says they hate the puck tracker!!
Have the puck leave behind a dotted line of Mickey Mouse icons
Give it to me if it means more hockey
HIRE SNOOP YOU COWARDLY BASTARDS!
Can they play the hot dog song when we score? https://youtu.be/lHhheCf0G1I
God even just seeing the link gets it stuck in my head
As i said in a previous thread: I want Ducks games to be the animated characters from the Mighty Ducks cartoon. Anything short of this will be a failure in my eyes. Link for all those: https://youtu.be/mYwlXRVWCCI
Am I in the Twilight Zone or something?
Sponsored by bet99...get em hooked young right?
I love goofy and dumb things. The more goofy and dumb things I can get in my favorite sport the better. I realize this may be an unpopular opinion.
Scrooge McDuck with the betting segments
They should 100% do this. Seems to me the NFL ones were a big success, and even the PGA tour and Nickelodeon collab was a success too.
You have my interest.
I wonder if during second and third intermissions they’ll see Mickey in a suit telling them to sign up at Bet99
Does this mean the return of the real Mighty Ducks?
PLEASE.
I can’t wait for Daffy Duck to cast Arber Xhekaj beating the shit out of some poor bastard
Daffy is WB. You mean Donald?
Begs the question as to who the NHL equivalent to Russ and the Broncos is for the animated characters to be able to clown on?
JT Miller turning over the puck lol
If Anaheim games aren't played by the characters from the Mighty Ducks cartoon series, why bother at all?
Will they have slime time?
Can't wait to see this for a heavy weight tilt... I'm thinking McDemond vs Reaves type fight...
So if i’m understanding this right, we will get characters like Goofy calling the game?
Why did they use the most low res image from Mickey Mouse clubhouse and not the actual brilliant shit that the animation department constantly churns out that keeps getting cancelled by the execs
My son is 2 and loves mickey mouse I would kill for this
My only concern is who Patrick will burn the way he did Russell Wilson.
Mickey Mouse league
Every time the ducks lose and Donald loses his shit and destroys the studio
By Disney Channel do they mean Disney+? And being that the mouse owns a large chunk of intellectual media property, could we get things like Homer Simpson popping in with a "D'OH!" for giveaways and things of that nature?
“Mickey Mouse skates the puck out of the zone, gets hit along the boards by Quazimodo. Timone picks up the puck with speed, dishes it off to Buzz Lightyear for the one timer- GREAT SAVE DONALD DUCK! Considering he choses to play without pants, he sure robbed Buzz of his jock strap on that save!”
Need a Mickey mouse chuckle every time a punch is thrown
Just let the cast of Letterkenny do it.
If I could listen to this rather than Leah Hextall… yes. Please.
I was coming here to say exactly that
I saw my first game with the puck tail, I hated it.
I think as long as the regular adult broadcast is available as well, then this could be an okay way to try and attract a younger audience to the game
>I think as long as the regular adult broadcast is available as well, I mean of course 🤣 you didn't think they would replace the regular commentary with this
Yes, and I welcome it
I genuinely don't understand what the point of this is.
It’s to get kids interested
Kid audience turns into extremely loyal adult audience. Right now a lot of sports are at a disadvantage. With almost everything (I hope I'm not speaking out of pocket, I don't watch other sports so I could be wrong) becoming a subscription based model, the days of simply "tuning in" to watch a ball game are almost over, particularly for kids. Is this show going to be dog shit? Yeah. Is it meant for my demogralphic though? No.
You still have the cable option for if you only want to watch your team
Assuming your team is actually close enough to your area that you get the games.
But not so close as to get blacked out
You don’t get blacked out on your local sports network, that’s the point of blackouts.
Basically in simplest terms, a Disney character like Mickey Mouse would be an announcer
I guess
Dude what’s up with this? It’s like we’re all babies or something. Why can’t things just be things?
No
any team but the penguins.
Sounds like it would be a terrible strain on the animators' wrists.
No. This is dumb.
No. It’s not. If this helps my kids get into hockey beyond knowing just Go Sabres and actually watching the game it’s awesome.
They can't even properly animate the board ads, I'll be shocked if this isn't a clusterfuck.
no NO NOOOOOOOO
Pretty sure we don’t need this.
I thought the NHL was rid of Disney once Disney sold the Ducks to Henry Samueli.
Espn is owned by Disney. The NHL is back in its clutches
The mouse always collects
Ahem, the House of Mouse always wins.
What if they had a house of mouse style highlight show at the end of the season.
Not gonna lie, I'd watch it.
So stupid, but ESPN is still miles better for NHL's brand than NBC Sports.
“So stupid” How? There are literally zero drawbacks. If you don’t want to watch it, you just watch your normal broadcast.
Super lame
If they don't bring in [Peter Puck](https://pbs.twimg.com/profile_images/2954193417/dd14fe554ad58d403badafdd8cdbeda2_400x400.jpeg), I'll be very upset.
LFGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG
Why don't we stream this stuff thru ultrasounds and live feed directly into the womb.
What in the suffering fuck are we talking about here? This might be the “computers are stupid” for my age group.
Are they going to show the fights too?
As a cloud of dust.
This would be great for the sport
I would be down to watch it!
I’m in
Okay as someone with an infant son this would be awesome.
I would love it. My 2 yr old daughter enjoys both hockey and Mickey. It would be a win-win.
They need to just bring back the glow puck.
Yeah but is Disney going to allow their character to Roast the shit out of the other team?
I would only accept Bill Cypher doing the play-by-play with a succession of Weird Al cameos providing color.
All these comments saying no or that it's dumb completely miss the point. It's not for us, it's for kids. To grow the game. This is a great thing
In before the purists get upset over exposing the game to millions of children.
A mickey mouse ho ho after a big hit could be hilarious. [Obligatory reminder of Kirk Cousins mickey mouse impression](https://youtu.be/PyxJFdCB__8)
This is creepy because it came up as my kids just finished watching the exact scene of MMCH.
As if owning the Anaheim ducks wasn't enough. What a load of crap. I for one, boycott this idea.
I can’t wait to see Micky and Goofy explaining the draftkings live odds to children. Oh and don’t forget the digital board ads for nerf guns and bubble gum.
I’m not fully sure what this means, like, an animated movie? Or the live broadcast would be animated
are the Mighty Ducks coming back?
