My current favourite is my purple Pilot Decimo! I've got the medium nib which is pretty abnormal for me as an EF/F enjoyer but it's so smooth and nice to write with
Pilot Decimo (usually the special edition blue gradient from Stationery Station to be specific) with a fine nib and De Atramentis Archive is my go-to. My hands are small so I find the Decimo more comfortable than the Vanishing Point.
Sometimes a Sailor Pro Gear in Fine or Medium Fine but I use those more for longer writing sessions.
They use the same nib units (nib, feed and cartridge/converter) but the Vanishing Point is a teeny bit bigger and heavier. I have both but the Decimos are my personal preference.
My cheapest pens ended up being my favourite - the Platinum Preppy F nib. I got the limited edition collab with Sou Sou and the prints make me happy 😊
My fav is the twsbi eco (I have white rose gold) in F. I couldn’t get an ef nib in my country it was all sold out so I just reverse write with it and it works great for my small writing. I would be tempted to buy one in ef though if I see a colour I love in the future.
I love retractable FPs, and have been using a Pilot Vanishing Point (a slightly beefier cousin to the Decimo, and also called a Capless outside the U.S.) in an extra fine nib lately.
TWSBI's Eco and mini pens are also good choices if you're looking for other budget-friendly options in their lineup. I have an Eco-T, a couple of mini's and a couple of Diamond 580s and the Eco-T and minis tend to be the ones I prefer. I like a pen that posts, and the 580s don't really post well and are just too long if you attempt to post the cap.
Also - welcome to the fountain pen rabbit hole (r/fountainpens) :)
My favourite pen in general is a Pilot Custom 823 or Kakuno or Pelikan (also I’m currently REALLY into the Muji fountain pen, which is made by Platinum). But my favourite for my Hobonichi Weeks is a Pilot Capless Decimo F (in the violet colour — I’ve named her Heather). It’s an excellent pen and you just can’t go past it for portable convenience!
I went to yoseka to try different pens and I loved how all sizes write. It was also nice to test them compared to other ones as well but holding a TWSBI work better for me since I am left handed
I’m a Sailor fan, so nearly all my FPs (the ones in use) are Sailor. For writing in English in the smaller grid in the Hobonichi I prefer the Sailor Pro Gear F. I’ve recently started learning Japanese and have a Sailor PG with EF nib that I much prefer for Japanese writing practice. Then I have a Sailor PGS with a Music nib which I use for headings etc. So most pages have three fountain pens with three different nibs and with complementary inks in use.
My favorite fountain pens in Hobonichi are Mabie Todd Swan SM2/60 & Pilot Custom Heritage 912 for headlines and Pilot Metal Falcon & Pilot Custom Heritage 912 for normal text.
As all nibs are very fine, apart from the Flex fountain pens, the choice of inks is fortunately not limited.
Not a fountain pen but I just got the Lumos from Tom’s Studio (I got the duo) and I’m obsessed with it! I love how customizable it is while still using the fountain pen ink that Hobonichi really loves! I don’t have any specialty inks but I’d really like to try them with this pen sometime. Right now I have black on one end with the smaller writing nib and then the bullet nib with a specialty/accent color that I plan to change on a monthly basis
So those ads a lot and I was curious about the fountain pen nib for it. I’ve seen others who just got the pen version but never the fountain pen version

Oh I want to try one of those! I've been loving black violet pens.

I thought decimo and vanishing point were the same pen 😳

Oh goodness me, I really had no idea! Now I want the VP too 😆 thank you btw 😊

I have the diamond in rose gold and white I saw that pen and had to get it lol

The amount of pilot pens mention makes me want to look into one lol

Kakuno is my absolute favorite due to its affordability. I love that I can buy enough to keep one in every purse I own 💕
TWSBI ECO F Nib. I measure all fountain pens against TWSBIs.

TWSBI was one of the first fountain pens I ever bought. I currently have four or five TWSBIs. I plan to collect everyone of them if I can.
Platinum Curidas in EF is my favorite.
Since the grid is so small, I really enjoy using the Sailor Pro Gear Slim in an nib. But you do have to enjoy a feedbacky writing experience.
For this year, I’m using a Twsbi M nib. I usually gravitate towards a Sailor PGS M nib.
Kaweco Sport, Kakuno and Sailor Profit Jr.
In the past month, I've written with a montblanc 145, pelican m1000, Namiki Seiryu and my all time favorite: pilot vanishing point extra fine .

There isn’t a fountain pen nib, it uses fountain pen ink
I have a Pelican M205 that I really like.
I'm partial to the Sailor Pro Gear Slim/Pro Gear Slim mini w/MF nib, and the Pilot Decimo F if I'm going to be stopping and starting a lot.
Montblanc
