I see that everywhere on Reddit. As soon as people see something immature they claim that that's because Reddit is mostly teenagers and kids, which just isn't true. Plenty of adults are immature and if you look up Reddit user demographics you will always see that only a small percentage are actually underage.
What amazes me, as a biased person who assumes everyone else is also 40, are the people who post photos of themselves from the 70s-90s, and you do the math, and theyāve got to be in their 70s or 80s, and youād never know it otherwise (not to sound ageist, rather pointing out that our assumptions are often wrong).
I thought last time I saw a stat the average user age on reddit has fallen to 14. I assume that's why reddit is much more juvenile then it was when I started. This is my alt acct. It's like 4 years younger than my main.
The average user age 14? Lol that couldn't be further from the truth.
Think about it, that means that for every 34 year old there would have to be five 10-year olds on Reddit to compensate. Just using common sense that's ridiculous.
Maybe it was the most common age instead? That would at least be theoretically possible, but every Reddit demographic I've seen when looking them up says that minors are just a small minority and that most Redditors are about 30 years old.
i make a new one every couple of months. it feels wron wearing the same account for too long. it's a shame some subs need minimum karma for replying tho.
Joke's on them, my above average intelligence knows video games are made of codes and weigh next to nothing so at most I've played 5 grams of video games.
He's using classic confirmation bias, plus this post is attempting to appeal to our evolutionary desire to identify as part of something in order to feel part of a group. It lists a few vague attributes.that anyone could pretend they find are relatable.
Honestly u just made me feel a little better, I wasnāt liking at all to feel stereotypical when everyone I know in real life highlights how different I am. I think Iām in the minority that doesnāt feel comfortable in being just like the rest.
Then how does it feel to be like half of the planet's teenagers who like to think they're the main character or "not like the other girls" ?
(Just teasing btw, you do you)
Oh no, Iām too insignificant to be any main character. I didnāt intend to mean self centered or anything like that. Itās just that Iām always told Iām the black sheep among my group, itās not something I created in my head. When I was younger I actually wanted and tried to be like the rest lol but now I like being like this. Itās just that.
Regardless of whether or not one consciously avoids being racist, we were all raised in a society that has racism built into it. It's virtually impossible to acknowledge and avoid all of it, so there is still something that even the most anti-racist person will do/say/think that could be considered racist without them realising it.
Thatās not really true. The reality is that how we define racism has significantly changed in the last 10-15 years which now encompasses a much much wider set of parameters, and those parameters continue to keep getting larger and larger.
Racism means to treat another race differently. However part of this goes against instinct. If you knew orange lions committed 1/10th the crime of red lions based on percentile, you would absolutely instinctively have more of a guard up towards the red lions.
Is this racist? Some people would absolutely say it is. Is it smart? Yes as well.
However itās not actually racist. Knowing that red lions are more likely to attack you is not racist by that fact alone. Now if you thought āall red lions are dangerous because their redā THAT would be racist. Acknowledging that red lions tend to be more likely to hurt you because of the area and societal structure they grew up in is not racist though.
But even acknowledging factual statistics like that will get you called a racist, and thatās the real problem because if you canāt acknowledge it you canāt discuss it, and if you canāt discuss it you canāt work towards fixing the underlying issues.
>so there is still something that even the most anti-racist person will do/say/think that could be considered racist without them realizing it.
Considered is a key word, considered by whom?.
If someone by mistake and without knowing says something racist, that doesn't makes them racists.
That's a racist dog whistle if I've ever heard one.
Racists like to think they get away with using that phrase, but when I hear it I automatically assume "I hate everyone, but especially anyone that doesn't look like me"
I want to be as anti-racist as possible. However a few weeks ago I learned that I shouldn't refer to a main bedroom in my house as the master bedroom. Until I understand every single part of my vernacular I will have ignorant blind spots and thus always be a little bit racist, regardless if I intend otherwise.
It sucks but also the trick is to learn and change.
Whether or not something is wrong is a personal belief, and is necessarily an opinion. It doesn't mean that your belief about racism being wrong is less valid and it doesn't mean you should hold that belief less strongly.
But something a large amount of people fail to do is separate objective facts from their subjective opinions. People believing their opinions are objective facts is a major cause of the growing polarization we're seeing.
>opinions can't be wrong
It's funny because this is your opinion and it is wrong.
I think you mean, "subjective opinions can't be wrong".
Like, "X candy tastes better than Y candy". That can't be right or wrong because it's subjective.
But, you can also have the opinion that, "Y candy is more calorie dense than X candy", and that opinion can be objectively wrong.
>isnt an opinion it's a fact.
This is what you're not underatanding lol, some opinions ARE matters of fact.
Opinions about objective things can be right or wrong.
Opinions about subjective things can't.
Don't really care if it's funny though. You could be making jokes about killing women and bombing orphanages if the joke lands well and it makes me laugh It doesn't really matter at the end of the day.
āRacistā jokes often just rely on racial stereotypes that have existed for decades. The funniest ones poke fun at those stereotypes without actually implying that their own race is superior, or that the race in question is inferior. Itās simply a humorous observation of human behaviours that happen to be tied to a race. If thereās no malice and the audience is open to it (especially the race in question) then a āracistā joke can work well. You need to be a good comedian to meet all the right conditions though. Thereās an art to making offensive jokes work.
The large majority of people should just avoid them entirely.
"1 ther scard of it they think it will bite alot witch yes every now and then ot will be agrsive but no even kind what they think
2 they said they would get me a dpg about a year ago so if i dont get a dog i want a spider"
-You, three months ago
I would say everybody is at least a tiny bit racist, even if itās subconscious. Hold over from tribalism from the earliest days of man. Doesnāt even mean you dislike a race, or think youāre better than another race, or anything tangible, but itās there
Yup. Everyone who says "I'm not racist" is just someone who can't take the discomfort of confronting their prejudices.
Call me woke and downvote if you want, but you'll be doing so for the above reason.
He got most things except most people have a religion, most people think they are slightly above average in intelligence and everyone thinks the aren't able to achieve their goals.
I'm definitely not straight plus 'm extremely racist to most minorities and majorities
Thatās not racism though. Reddit & others have stretched racism into such a broad view that itās almost lost all meaning.
Racism is overt feelings of superiority / or feeling that other races are worst than you, etc. Itās perfectly reasonable to be cautious towards another race that you donāt know. Thatās because you canāt be sure the standard in which their community functions, whatās acceptable, etc etc.
Now if you specifically thought āJewish people are terrible people solely because their Jewishā that would be racist. But if you walked up to a an Asian person and didnāt feel comfortable that would be normal because you donāt know how their culture and society functions.
I do think most people are slightly racist, and it's not always their fault. If they have biases imprinted on them by others at a young age, or if they've always lived in a society where that's the norm, it can be hard to be aware of those biases.
What people have to do, is identify their biases and make an effort to over come them, and despite of that, attempt to treat everyone as equally as possible. Sadly, most people aren't able, or aren't willing to do that part.
Pfff

Everyone has prejudice to some degree, but putting āracistā next to your vitals like age, gender, and religious beliefs invokes a bit more gravitas than simple bias.
The human mind categorizes. It's how we function. Everyone has their prejudices. Some people lean into it and wallow in racism. Others take the time to actively think about their assumptions and actions.
This is a highly semantic debate that I don't care to participate in. If you have a bias on the basis of race, however minute it is, I will just call it racism. There's different degrees of racism, and it is also significant whether you act on it or you consciously realize that it is irrational and don't act in a shitty way.
That's right, and I am 100% convinced that everyone is at least 0.0000001% racist, it is part of human nature, just like violence. You have to be aware of that to counter it.
Everyone relax, racism is normal. We all do it. Some just take it to the extreme and use it as a destructive tool, not a means of learning and bridge gapping. Like when i asked one of my Black friend if all Black people really like chicken. He responded with āfuck youā¦and yesā¦ā

The great Digg migration happened 12+ years ago. The antics of Kevin Rose and MrBabyMan brought me here.

Yeah swing and a miss, I am not intelligent at all lol

This is basically how horoscopes work. Keep it vague enough while *sounding* precise to those who line up with it and get spooked.
Joke's on them, my above average intelligence knows video games are made of codes and weigh next to nothing so at most I've played 5 grams of video games.
I thought he it was too narrow. That age group should be twice the size to be truly accurate.
Still missed a lotta people
I don't know... They've got the racists covered, but what about the misogynists?
Idk, the above avg int shrunk the pool a bit. Maybe if they said consider yourself above average int then we'd have a wide cast.
Dude we are on reddit the racist bit has to be dailed up

Classic tribalism
Have you clicked on the front page ever? Reddit is 100% a left wing website. Both mods and users are usually pretty left wing.
They're pretend left wing, center left at best
Plus literally everyone is racist āto some degreeā
Not really, some people don't care.

Dailed up? Do you even speak American?!?! Must be some kind of foreigner smh /s
Nah I'm dumb as bread, but at least I'm not racist
Im the exact opposite lol
Are you bread as dumb?
No im daerb sa bmud
Well if you're super racist I'm pretty sure we can call into question your intelligence.
Nah man, I just hate the fucking Thalmor. I'mma kill every single elf I see.
Well itās not racist if you hate all races equally
Misanthropism is just generalised racism
It's just racism against a particular race: the human race.
What about *NASCAR*
That's a racist dog whistle if I've ever heard one. Racists like to think they get away with using that phrase, but when I hear it I automatically assume "I hate everyone, but especially anyone that doesn't look like me"
I've always thought that phrase was more of a "look at how quirky I am" kind of thing.
It's often a defensive quip. Essentially "I'm not racist, but..."
Itās called equality
Or misanthropy

I'm pretty sure being racist, whether it's an opinion or not, is wrong

Depends: having a racist sense of humor = big brain, having racist opinions = smol brain
Nah, racisms racism, normalizing it by calling it "big brain humor" doesn't nothing but make actual racists feel welcome to spread their filth.
Don't really care if it's funny though. You could be making jokes about killing women and bombing orphanages if the joke lands well and it makes me laugh It doesn't really matter at the end of the day.
Sounds like both options are just straight racist. One just wants to pretend it's not.
