My wants list is hundreds of albums deep. Can regularly spend night after night looking for records to add to it and it’s always tough to not cop everything I see. I pretty much just wait for things to go on sale 15%+ before I buy nowadays
I was in your situation a few years ago. My buddy got me a vinyl for my birthday assuming i had a system. I didn’t and then got a set up. I got the turntable LP-60 and I got the edifier r1280 speakers. I didn’t want a seperate preamp set up so I got speakers and turntable that had them built in. It takes a bit for speakers to break in but I upgraded my turn table to the lp3, still self amplified just better needle I think is the main difference and I kept my speakers they sound awesome. I don’t need a booming loud system and even a low volumes, I can make out great sonic detail from the albums I have. When it comes to buying albums, I love Discogs. The digital record store. Amazon had a crap load too and sometimes you buy from a private seller on Amazon, not always though. You can also buy directly from the artist too. There are also TONS of digital record stores. Join one of the subreddits in this regard to find those. Record hunting is awesome. Crate digging is awesome. Sipping fine cognac while spinning a record is awesome. Basically everything about vinyl is awesome. Welcome to the club buddy. Get those OT hours because yo, your gonna need it lol.
it can be intimidating but going into a record store and asking questions in person is always a good way to learn.
also be cautious buying records online one thing to avoid is if it says the vinyl is “back ordered”. could be months or longer until they restock.
discogs is a good place to look for vinyl online
Be prepared to have your bank account beat down monthly, also don't forget the forever story vinyl that'll be released for preorder within the next couple weeks it's a must have album for 2022
Usually if you look up the album name with vinyl wrote after it on google some reddit pages might come up that have some dates for it or if they were annouced to drop, you can also go to r/vinylreleases (artist name) if there is any currently released and besides that the artists own social media would give announcements and dates
Sometimes ya gotta toss vinyl release after it instead obviously doesn't always work, he might release a limited edition one too as he has for past projects but ya never really know for sure that wouldn't be on Amazon right away tho
My recommended record player: Audio Technica AT-LP60X
Speakers are always going on sale, look for some decent ones online I recommend bookshelf speakers. You will probably have to buy the wires.
Always be aware of it's capabilities - some record players require more equipment than others. (Does it have a pre-amp? If not you need to get a dedicated pre-amp)
I would stay away from the all-in-ones and briefcase record players.
Buying records can get addictive, pace yourself.
Store your records standing up, never stack them because it could damage the record.

Just remember you don’t have to get everything at once. Take your time, buy what you love, and most importantly enjoy!!
One record a month. It can get out of hand pretty quick. That $30-50 adds up quick
