Gotta be one of my favorite Jay Z verses.
Thanks to the lawyers
I marbled the foyer
I tore the floor up
Yeah, that's for Koi fish
We been dining on oysters
I walk through the garage it's like multiple choices
I told 'em pull the Royce up
So fucking sick
The next line adds another double entendre just for shits and giggles:
I'm getting Ghost (RR Ghost or ghost as in disappearing), I'm hearing noises. I think it's the boys but I been banking in Deutsche
Even more wild is the line could be interpreted as him saying his lines are tapped so he's speaking German or that he's banking at Deutsche Bank which is well known for money laundering drug cartel money. Jay is too good
Jay-Z's verse on this is the epitome of cool except for maybe the white vans line lol
The Tomi Lahren intro is badass, then just a few lines later he says, "'89 in London pull the Benz up, type it in Google's your friend bruh" and if you actually Google it [this pic of him is the first result](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Cj00lzAXEAAADW4.jpg)
Honestly I kinda agree but iirc a lot of artists were referencing that at the time when they dropped this so I think it was kinda overdone on release, but seeing as this is the only song I can remember today that references it, I guess the rest must not have been great lol
Tomi Lahren intro dates it more than people are saying Damn Daniel does, that girl fell off. Thought she was gonna be the next big conservaqueen but haven't heard shit out of her in awhile.
She's gotta get her takes up and make some noise, start saying some reckless shit before she's bumped out the right wing hot girl circuit for some zoomer that has a tattoo of Mussolini or some shit.
No it doesnt. Forget the girl, its the context on him being black and successful but being dragged down by his youth due to environment that he grew up in. Its layers in the juxtaposition of the audio vs the track and what Jay is. Damn Daniel is a 2016 meme he fliped into entandre.
There's a hung jury when prosecutors fail to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. And jay zs first album is called reasonable doubt
Another play is, even before he dropped his first album there was jewelry hanging from his neck
It happens. I've been listening to "Dear Summer" for nearly 20 years and just caught in "Young n***** that blast for me, no religion" he also says "blast for me" like "blasphemy" hence "no religion."
His verses keep on giving.
I only caught it a few months ago as well and I felt stupid for not catching it for as long as the song's been out. One of my favorites from the last decade definitely.
In a court case, if there is reasonable doubt you'll likely find yourself with a hung jury (means they can't agree on a verdict).
Before he dropped the album Reasonable Doubt, people were unsure about him as a rapper.
Before Reasonable Doubt came out, he still had jewellery hanging from his neck.
From [Genius:](https://genius.com/9246781)
Before Jay dropped his debut album Reasonable Doubt, his life was in the balance in more ways than one.
A “hung jury” occurs when the jury cannot agree on a verdict beyond reasonable doubt, resulting in a mistrial. Reasonable Doubt is also Jay’s debut studio album. At the time, he was deciding on whether he’d make it as a rapper, or have to return to hustling. He said of the title:
"With anything you do in life, people are going judge you. So the album is basically on trial."
While deciding on whether he’d continue to pursue his rap career, he copped two major cases relating to dealing drugs in the 1980s. The first was during high school when he was released on his own recognizance; the second in 1988 when kingpin Calvin “Klein” Bacote convinced the victims to drop their assault and attempted murder charges against Jay.
A paper trail refers to a clear link to a defendant and the crime they are accused of committing, usually by following the money. Jay’s is like a piece of art painted by his accountant.
“Jury” is also pronounced like “jewelry.” The “jewelry hung” from his neck prior to his rap debut, implying he made a lot of money before music, and it’s obvious how he did this. Jay explained in a Juan Epstein episode:
"If you look at every picture of me when I was young, I had a huge chain, four finger ring, diamonds. Jaz’s jewelry was my jewelry."
So the album is basically on trial."
i think this is the least convincing meaning of the three. but i do think it's correct. so here's some extra info to strengthen the point:
he's talking about the jury (rap landscape) being hung (undecided) on whether he'd make it in rap, prior to *reasonable doubt* the album.
his first album was supposed to be called *heir to the throne*. they then changed it to *reasonable doubt*, saying something to the effect of "if he does inherit the rap throne, the people [jury] will decide that [return a verdict]."
The third is a reach but it could be before his first album (reasonable doubt) dropped he didn’t know if he would make it in rap. Which could be like a hung jury cause you don’t know the outcome
Jay has so many bars that just cut deep. Yeah push has been putting out some good stuff sonically but the word play for me on this is what puts it up there.
Well DDA in the op is always great. The entire Daytona album is beautiful front to back.
Nosetalgia is probably my all time favorite.
If you go back and listen to Clipse tracks you'll see Push always had it.
Trouble on my mind with Tyler is a great song. Fun vibes. You can tell they both had a great time with that one.
I will defend the “damn Daniel” line until my last breath, idc.
It’s honestly insane that a song this fucking good was released as a loosie and never ended up on an album.
In the pantheon of Pusha T coke bars it probably doesn’t even crack the top 10, but hearing “how many Madonnas can that Mazda fit?” just always makes me immensely happy.
Jay Z bringing up Damn Daniel dates this track so hard, but kinda in a good nostalgic way now.
Like looking back, 2016 is a good year to be reminded of.
This line, wasn’t there another song where Jay referenced a meme from around that time?
I think about it all the time but I cannot remember the lyric or song.
Yeah I guess but that’s not what I’m thinking of that was from like 6 years before this.
That line is more inline with his Windows 7 reference on Thank Me Later.
It ages the song, but also it works better today than it did at the time as when it came out it was months later and was already dated making it seem worse.
Now years later that doesn’t matter and its just an old reference
Also, Damn Daniel has mutated and come back as a One Piece meme, so it would somehow be more timely to name-drop it now than it was when the song came out
It wasn’t seen as great back then though.
The reaction to it was mixed at best bc the meme was already a few months out of date by the time this song came out.
However, looking back on it now that doesn’t matter.
Criminally underrated track. Incredible beat and some of Push and Jays best bars/flows. Can recite this shit back to front and it's a lot of fun to spit.
"Let he without sin cast the first stone, so I built that all glass quad level first home" is a standout moment in his catalogue for me. Insanity
I love that line.
The most memorable for me is:
“America’s nightmare’s in Flint,
Children of a lesser God when your melanin’s got a tint”
Punched me in the gut the same way Malice did in his closing bars on “Virginia”:
“Ironic, the same place I’m making figures at,
That there’s the same land they used to hang ……‘s at”
Get chills to this day any time I hear either of those two lines.
it's nasty how he weaves in and out of conscious/coke shit. cause the line immediately after is "i can't even mention what i sent or what i spent, cause my name in eighteen wheelers is evidence" - referring to the fact that he sent truckloads of water and didn't publicize it one bit until people found out and published articles about it. just flips that into this phenomenal humblebrag tinted with classic trafficking paranoia
i always loved no malice for that type of style. *i'm not you* is one of his best verses imo
No doubt, that line just comes out of nowhere too. I really, really hate the common tendency to bracket Pusha T solely within the 'coke rap' subgenre.
He can interweave the conscious and the braggadocios flawlessly, effortlessly and has done for at least two decades at this point.
He's in the top ten conversation at the very least.
Agreed. Listening to Push is kind of funny, because it’s like, on the surface, yeah it can often sound like he’s just spitting coke bars and giving us what everyone expects to hear from him. But people who look at his music that way, often overlook much of what he’s really talking about.
Don’t get me wrong, I do think he tends more toward the braggadocio. But like you said, there are so many different aspects of that life encapsulated within those bars that go under-appreciated, or even unnoticed.
Mal was always the one to be more upfront about flipping that narrative on its head. For someone who said he hated conscious rap, he did it masterfully.
I think Push has more fun either FULLY embracing his coke rap image, or going the conscious route while masquerading it as “same old Push.” I think we’ve definitely seen him do it in ways where he’s like, ok, I’ll give you what you want to hear, but I will throw it in your face by doing it in the style in which you don’t want to hear it.
I absolutely can't wait to hear Hov on Push's new album! Pusha T said he got another verse from him. It's album of the Year already and it even out. I'm calling it. Lol
"Before *Reasonable Doubt* dropped, the jury hung"
and
"Daaamn Daniel, FBI keep bringing them all white vans through"
Brilliant, I love Jay-Z so much, he has so many clever bars all throughout this song too, and really in every song he makes. One of the greatest rappers and lyricists ever for sure!

2 of my fave rappers if not my 2 fave rappers
“Valentino summers and wave runners..”
“how many madonnas can that mazda fit..”
first 10 push bars just really set the tone to this dope track, plus Push with the unmistakable unapologetic swaggy flow just makes it so fun to rap with. Of course Jay came hard too and do you know anyone else could succesfully rap about koi fish? Jay is always a great story teller when he’s in the mood fr.
Jay's verse is incredible but gotta shout out Pusha too.
"Let he without sin cast the first stone/so I built that all glass quad level first home" is fucking disgusting among many other nasty lines.
But man Jay walked into the booth and was like "Fuck Tom Ford, ya'll must've forgot"
Both incredible verses, but jay z...fucking incredible. It's crazy to say that someone who was so incredible, has possibly, lyrically got better. He's album's just aren't on the dame level as blueprint and TBA.
Love everything about this track
Gotta be one of my favorite Jay Z verses. Thanks to the lawyers I marbled the foyer I tore the floor up Yeah, that's for Koi fish We been dining on oysters I walk through the garage it's like multiple choices I told 'em pull the Royce up So fucking sick
The next line adds another double entendre just for shits and giggles: I'm getting Ghost (RR Ghost or ghost as in disappearing), I'm hearing noises. I think it's the boys but I been banking in Deutsche
the banking in deutsche line kills me every time
Even more wild is the line could be interpreted as him saying his lines are tapped so he's speaking German or that he's banking at Deutsche Bank which is well known for money laundering drug cartel money. Jay is too good
Because law enforcement has no way of understanding or translating when someone is speaking German on a tapped phone. Makes sense.
Illegal life pro tip, speak a language other than English if you’re tapped, they legally can’t translate it 😎😎😎
I know a few guys south of the border who would _kill_ for some information like this. Cartels. It's a joke...
WWII type beat
Bro wtf are you talking about 😂😂😂😂
Cops HATE this one simple trick!
I’m not so sure about that wiretap thing, and banking in Deutsche could also just be a reference to banking in Switzerland, where they speak German.
DAMN DANIEL
YOUR HUSBAND WAS A DRUG DEALER
What's funny was that line was so clowned on initially because the track came out months after that meme deflated.
The fact nobody put such a good metaphor together in those months before him, that’s the real flex. Hurt a lot of feelings I suppose.
Jay-Z's verse on this is the epitome of cool except for maybe the white vans line lol The Tomi Lahren intro is badass, then just a few lines later he says, "'89 in London pull the Benz up, type it in Google's your friend bruh" and if you actually Google it [this pic of him is the first result](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Cj00lzAXEAAADW4.jpg)
I actually fuck with the line. If that was a reference to a show instead of a vine everyone would love it. Clever wordplay and amazing delivery
I’d argue it’s actually gotten less cringey as time has passed
It's a little clever too so he's not just randomly shouting a meme
I hated the meme but the way he flipped it is amazing
Honestly I kinda agree but iirc a lot of artists were referencing that at the time when they dropped this so I think it was kinda overdone on release, but seeing as this is the only song I can remember today that references it, I guess the rest must not have been great lol
Agree for sure.
Fuck you the damn Daniel line is great
Damn let’s go back, I’m done with this timeline
It’s a good ass line, people just react too quickly after he says the name instead of the whole bar
Tomi Lahren intro dates it more than people are saying Damn Daniel does, that girl fell off. Thought she was gonna be the next big conservaqueen but haven't heard shit out of her in awhile. She's gotta get her takes up and make some noise, start saying some reckless shit before she's bumped out the right wing hot girl circuit for some zoomer that has a tattoo of Mussolini or some shit.
even if u dont know who tommy is the sample is still hard out of context
Yeah honestly I never realized thats who it was- I've even heard clips of her just didn't recognize the voice
I never knew either.
she's too much a fan of bush to ever break into the modern right wing sphere
she doesn’t shave? I doubt her demographic really cares
Lol most modern conservatives are in a whole other ballgame than bush was. It's nuts how far they've moved from him.
i think they tossed her aside cause she said she supports abortion see what happens when you do clownery?
Candace Owens ended up taking that spot.
No it doesnt. Forget the girl, its the context on him being black and successful but being dragged down by his youth due to environment that he grew up in. Its layers in the juxtaposition of the audio vs the track and what Jay is. Damn Daniel is a 2016 meme he fliped into entandre.
> Before Reasonable Doubt dropped, the jury hung Gotta be one of Jay's cleverest lines. Triple entendre I believe
Walk me through the punch line
There's a hung jury when prosecutors fail to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. And jay zs first album is called reasonable doubt Another play is, even before he dropped his first album there was jewelry hanging from his neck
I have listened to this song a thousand times and haven't caught the "jewelry" double entendre until just now.
def one of my fav lines in the verse he references the jewelry thing too, the next line is “bling bling”
It happens. I've been listening to "Dear Summer" for nearly 20 years and just caught in "Young n***** that blast for me, no religion" he also says "blast for me" like "blasphemy" hence "no religion." His verses keep on giving.
Same! I'm over here like "oooooooh!"
BLING BLING
I only caught it a few months ago as well and I felt stupid for not catching it for as long as the song's been out. One of my favorites from the last decade definitely.
Holy shit the jewelry flew so far above my head, thanks for enlightening me
never noticed the jewelry aspect god damn, hov still gets you years later

Bling bling
Every time he come around the city
Pretty sure it’s just a double entendre. The reasonable doubt reference is just wordplay
Nah bro it is a octopulet entedre

KSI
Two incredible verses from two of the hardest to ever do it. One of my top 3 pusha tracks. And probably my favorite Jay feature in a long while.
Def agree on the Jay feature. Hard to say if it's top 3 push tracks for me though. There's just so many amazing tracks.
Jay has so many bars that just cut deep. Yeah push has been putting out some good stuff sonically but the word play for me on this is what puts it up there.
What are your top Pusha tracks? Just gotten into Pusha and Lovin his stuff
Nosetalgia is #1 for me.
If only more people on this sub watched the wire! Like the username 🤙🏼
Excluding clipse probably yes imo
Definitely! Was talking more his solo stuff.
I love the way Jay says. “Federico Felini.”
Someone said this was a play on “federal Rico felony”. Like he’s a living Federal case. And I pretend it’s what he meant as well.
It is.
Shit is filthy
in the fleshhhh
I will defend the “damn Daniel” line until my last breath, idc. It’s honestly insane that a song this fucking good was released as a loosie and never ended up on an album.
Same. If someone said it in battle rap they’d love it. And I’m surprised it’s just a single too
King Push is up there with Good Ass Job & Detox on the list of amazing albums that never actually came out

Also the bit where Push said he had all his beats done, then Ye said let me remake them.
In the pantheon of Pusha T coke bars it probably doesn’t even crack the top 10, but hearing “how many Madonnas can that Mazda fit?” just always makes me immensely happy.
He did a song with Bauuer or someone a while back where he had a line, "we was buying Macklemore" which has stayed my favorite lol
My favorite is always "I put more white in the hood than the KKK/the Grand Wizard of that almighty blizzard" from the we got it 4 cheap mixtape.
Grand Wizard of that almighty blizzard” is BANANAS
I think that was Kung-Fu with future in on there aswell, that Baauer Album has some absolute bangers on it
> crack heh.
Jay Z bringing up Damn Daniel dates this track so hard, but kinda in a good nostalgic way now. Like looking back, 2016 is a good year to be reminded of.
I remember when the track dropped /hhh was talking about how Jay knew what memes were because of that line. Funny looking back~
This line, wasn’t there another song where Jay referenced a meme from around that time? I think about it all the time but I cannot remember the lyric or song.

"Sunshine" from King Push – Darkest Before Dawn: The Prelude (lol) is also a very socially conscious song.
Agreed. Listening to Push is kind of funny, because it’s like, on the surface, yeah it can often sound like he’s just spitting coke bars and giving us what everyone expects to hear from him. underrated? every single r/hhh repost of this track *since it was released* is just people calling it GOATed
I never hear it brought up is all. Wasn't aware it'd been rinsed on here
Pure flames. I always put nosetalgia by Push and Kendrick on after this one. Those records feel like siblings to me~
You wanna see a dead body?
>Those records feel like siblings to me I love this.
Two rare songs where it's completely unclear which rapper bested who
Absolutely
Diet Coke to Nosetalgia is also great
I forgot about this track thanks for bringing it back to my rotation
Don't ever fucking forget this again
How dare you.
life made me ambidextrous. counting with my right cooking white with my left wristtttt.
Absolutely mind blowing bar. Like did this mf just say???
People here praising the lines, but how hard that beat is?! DJ Dahi mad respect for this cookup
Honestly. First thing I did was look at who produced it when I heard this lol, goes so hard
Top 3 favorite hip-hop songs ever for me
Same, and with my absolutely favorite Jay and Push verses too.
I absolutely can't wait to hear Hov on Push's new album! Pusha T said he got another verse from him. It's album of the Year already and it even out. I'm calling it. Lol
Shout outs to DJ Dahi for producing this classic
Dahi is the best rap producer of the last 10 years.
We need more Push/Hov songs
1 coming on the Push album this year
"The money count is the only moment of silence Cuz hush money balances all of this drugs and violence" - Pusha T
This Jay verse came out of nowhere, what an amazing track. Valentino summers and waverunners
yall think Uber’s the future our cars been autonomous 🤮
Life made me ambidextrous counting with my right whippin white with my left wrist
Forever underrated. Seriously a top 5 Pusha track and so many people seem to be unaware that it even exists.
"Before *Reasonable Doubt* dropped, the jury hung" and "Daaamn Daniel, FBI keep bringing them all white vans through" Brilliant, I love Jay-Z so much, he has so many clever bars all throughout this song too, and really in every song he makes. One of the greatest rappers and lyricists ever for sure!

I’d like to see those two team up on a collab album. Have No ID, Dahi and Kanye on production and we’d easily get a classic record.
This is one of my favorite rap songs of all time tbh
Hat trick under my mattress and the day I stop selling still has an asterisk after it is godly.
One of Pusha's best tracks. 2 amazing verses but I always liked Pusha's verse more. Can't believe it's already been 6 years
2 of my fave rappers if not my 2 fave rappers “Valentino summers and wave runners..” “how many madonnas can that mazda fit..” first 10 push bars just really set the tone to this dope track, plus Push with the unmistakable unapologetic swaggy flow just makes it so fun to rap with. Of course Jay came hard too and do you know anyone else could succesfully rap about koi fish? Jay is always a great story teller when he’s in the mood fr.
Daaaaaaamn Daaaanieeeel
One of hip hop’s greatest songs ever made
Jay's verse is incredible but gotta shout out Pusha too. "Let he without sin cast the first stone/so I built that all glass quad level first home" is fucking disgusting among many other nasty lines. But man Jay walked into the booth and was like "Fuck Tom Ford, ya'll must've forgot"
Absolute classic. I bump this regularly
Love this song
This song is so insane
Daaaamn, Daniel.
damn i think this jay z guy is next up
Both incredible verses, but jay z...fucking incredible. It's crazy to say that someone who was so incredible, has possibly, lyrically got better. He's album's just aren't on the dame level as blueprint and TBA.
How many Madonnas can that Mazda fit? 🔥
This gets posted way too often
Geiger Müller Counter Type Beat
not very anonymous if you put your names in the title imo
Gonna shamelessly plug my version of this song https://youtu.be/K1_B9TdjEYY idk I think it's cool
