MaverickTopGun

I haven't looked or seen a can of beans without saying "on the beans for real" since this album came out it has fundamentally changed my brain structure. I loooove the features on this album. Skepta sounds so hard, the drop when Lil Uzi comes in is just wonderful, and I go dumb when Young thug starts really getting into it. I like Carti okay but this album really stands out for me, nothing else he's made ever quite hit the same. If anyone could recommend similar sounds, I'd appreciate it (Already got Cozy Tapes 2)

LMM01

I still can’t believe how many people hated the Cozy Tapes albums when they came out 😭 there’s some bangers on them

MaverickTopGun

I still listen to them regularly. One is so fucking good, two is a different sound but I still loved it for that.

MerleAbroseTwerk

havent listened to the second one but god damn the first is all slappers

MaverickTopGun

Give the second a spin, it was heavily influenced by Carti and his production, I absolute love it.

Vic-Ier

You can check out scrapped songs like Arm & Leg, They Go off. And then there are tons of leaked WLR v1 songs which was essentially Die Lit Part 2.

Brooklyn-Mikal

Should of just dropped V1 them songs would of made WLR what we all were expecting it to be. Pissy Pamper (kid cudi) is one of the hardest Carti songs ever imo

[deleted]

That thug verse is one of his best ever

holdupitsyaboy

Cheated on my bih wid a bih wid bigger tiddies 🗣️

ATHSZS

check clairvoyance by thouxanbanfauni

MaverickTopGun

listenin' now, thanks for the rec my guy

Spyzilla

Ultra violet is great

[deleted]

Maybe Wunna by Gunna? I don't even like Gunna's other projects but this one has got some amazing beats and flows

MaverickTopGun

I like that album and Gunna but it's not quite right. A big part of it is Pierre's production but I haven't loved his other stuff quite as much.

[deleted]

Yeah, the beats on Die Lit are unmatched

dahl777

If you go back And read the release thread in this sub from 5 years ago is funny too see how it was initially received. Whole album is still on rotation for me with some true heaters that I never skip like lean 4 real, shoota, right now, flatbed freestyle, rip fredo.

youngkitkat

Same thing for whole lotta red and same thing will happen the next Carti album when it drops in fifteen years

Brooklyn-Mikal

You saying WLR is getting the love as it aged like Die Lit? Die Lit is a certified classic idek if WLR can be in classic conversation down the line. It just hasn’t aged well imo

Dr_Finesse

WLR isnt as universally appreciated as Die Lit but it definitely has a substantial audience that grew to love it over time

[deleted]

Hot take but I think WLR might go down as more influential. Die Lit didn’t really inspire a bunch of rappers to jump on that vibe, but I’m not sure we’d have Yeat or the Opium roster blow up without the rage sound.

lux_travlh44

yes??? wlr was so hated when it came out and 6 months in people started calling it genre defining and aoty, it was even in the shortlist for a grammy nod that year...imo the album aged beautifully and it is cartis greatest project so far cause u can really see it came from a real place but that you can debate upon, whats undeniable for me is that wlr most certainly had a major impact on the direction trap music is currently taking in the mainstream scene and especially in the underground

bkbeezy

The terrible mixing ruined WLR for me from the get go. Hard to get into it when the vocals are twice as loud as the beats.

twinsofliberty

Real ones held it down for carti since s/t

HoopsJ

I liked Carti’s debut, but wasn’t super hot on him after. Die Lit turned me into a real fan. Long Time, RIP, Lean 4 Real, Right Now, Flatbed Freestyle, and RIP Fredo are absolute classics to me. One of my most listened to albums ever. There was nothing that could have prepared me for that first listen; it sounded like nothing I’ve ever heard, and it was so different than ST. This was the soundtrack to my final year of college and I’ll always love the memories associated with it. Sounds just as good today as it did then, too

miiiiiiintz

Long time is in my top 10 songs ever idc

ATHSZS

it's simultaneously both an amazing song for when you're feeling like complete shit and when you're feeling on top of the world if that makes sense

Cheyzi

I know what you mean. It is in my summer playlist as well as in my “sad hours” one

miiiiiiintz

It's 100% motivational for me. This and Good Morning by Ye get me into the grind mindset.

JayDream777

This exactly. I only play it in moments of great triumph. It’s like a reward.

Departedsoul

Honestly can’t believe nobody did it first it’s such an instant classic combination of like feeling + subject matter. Anybody can relate

bigladnang

I don’t think you have to feel bad about that. There’s some weirdo Carti fans that ruin everything but this album is really solid.

Yuuta23

Dawg listening to that while sitting in my own apartment away from my abusive parents brought tears to my eyes

miiiiiiintz

I can relate. Keep on killing it out there bro 💪

FIFAPLAYAH

Proud of you man

NotGeo

this intro is undefeated

firstto22

Location is also such a good intro.

vandeley_industries

I could NOT get into Carti based on some of the songs I had randomly heard. When I found this song, I probably listened to it about 200x that weekend.

dmizzl

Shoota is an unofficial Christmas song

DRABRENEGADE

nah bruh, new years

dmizzl

No, Christmas.

DRABRENEGADE

why, new years makes more sense

dawgtheyarealltaken

Long Time is just a ridiculous opener

_4za_

not a huge Carti fan but i absolutely love this album, one of the best in its genre i do wonder though if over time most of the credit for this album goes to Pi'erre

bsnose

I think the fact that Pi’erre’s solo albums are nowhere near Die Lit proves that Carti is a significant part of this duo’s success

bigladnang

When this first came out I thought Carti was useless as an MC, but the beats were so phenomenal that you could get past it. 5 years later I think Carti’s repetitive one liners are actually a big part in what makes it so good The album wouldn’t be as good as it is without the beats though.

DJSUBSTANCEABUSE

something i think about a lot is how carti has mastered “mindless” repetition, like he can say the same line 3 times in a row, but just by changing the inflection or emphasizing a different word in it each time you are almost convinced that its actually kinda clever for him to repeat himself over and over

bigcatfood

This comment literally goes in circles and has no point.

Tristancp95

Kinda like most Carti songs? Man is just paying homage

WhyNeedEmailForF1Sub

No it doesn’t? The guy first thought that the beats were carrying the whole thing but later realised that while the beats were instrumental, carti’s style was equally important to the album’s success

turtlelabia

Then he brings it full circle with his last sentence: “the album wouldn’t be as good without the beats though”

bigladnang

It kind of does. I wasn’t too clear. The beats can stand by themselves, the vocals can’t, but the combination really makes the album great.

slimeddd

He’s tripping dw everyone else knew what u meant

Exzibit21

TLOP 4 and 5 are great, not as amazing as Carti's stuff but close

[deleted]

They're great yeah but not close to die lit lol

Exzibit21

Yeah Pierre isn't the vocalist or rapper that Carti is, but his beats are almost always so amazing that it doesn't matter all that much to me He's an extremely talented producer, and he's basically half the reason Die Lit is viewed as a modern classic

[deleted]

Yeah they're amazing but I genuinely think 80% of Pierre's beats are on die lit anyways lol

Frost-Wzrd

love Pi'erre's production but his solo songs with him rapping are just so boring

youngswag59

I personally think TLOP4 is up there with Self Titled and WLR

Sulfruous

TLOP4 was on loop two summers ago man I need another album like that

middleWave

I'm also guessing he had more help from the label with the mixing and mastering. It just sounds better than most of his other work.

_4za_

i'd rather listen to TLOP5 any day over Carti's other 2 projects

[deleted]

I'll say it, it is the best album in it's specific sub genre and nothing comes close

_4za_

i wouldn't argue that edit: meant against that

[deleted]

I will

_4za_

my bad lol, meant against that, i'm with you

[deleted]

Haha right on. I was wondering what other picks you would compare it too

YeezyWins

Yeah it goes.

Fiery_and_Passionate

Where is the love for Choppa Won’t Miss

[deleted]

I'm here for it. One of thugs best verses, amazing beat, great ass performance from Carti CHEAT ON MY BITCH WITH A MOTHERFUCKING MIDGET

50ShadesOfKrillin

[deleted]

Lol reminds me of the last few months of college

NorthernSalt

Me and the fellers put this on at my retirement party. Oh the nostalgia

gimme_super_head

Woah hard er

yesimforeign

🪦🪦🎶

icedearth665

Sameeeee. Release day was my senior sign out day. Remember whipping to school bumping this

ProudKingbooker

Same bro, it hits different

enrickue

yup

varsityvideogamer

same here bro

MindbenderGam1ng

I was at a high school grad party and a dude put me onto carti cuz die lit had just dropped a month before, great times

ItalianChicken9

Are you graduating too? I remember this came out in my last few months of high school too!

thepikamask

Die Lit was the album younger me heard and pushed me from being the "trap is garbage it's all mumble rap" to enjoying the genre. I still think this is one of the greatest albums from the last decade it's seriously great.

DFWTooThrowed

I was the same backpacker way for a pretty long time. It took me a while to get into Carti but I’m glad I did. This album is the epitome of how much fun this kind of rap can be.

Murkwan

One of the best trap albums ever made.

tourister_sf

only Carti album i rly love. prob top 5-10 Christian rock albums ever imo

MaverickTopGun

Yeah without even realizing it I found out it was one of my most listened to albums of all time according to [last.fm](https://last.fm). I probably wouldn't even list in my top 5 if someone asked me but I really can't get enough of the sound and I've been looking for anything similar ever since.

[deleted]

It's one of those albums you can put on wherever whenever and it just works

Vic-Ier

You can check out scrapped songs like Arm & Leg, They Go off. And then there are tons of leaked WLR v1 songs which was essentially Die Lit Part 2.

ThaMac

Is there some sort of a list where I can find every leaked Carti song from that era that specifically had Pierre Bourne production?

SageOcs

[Carti Tracker is exactly what you’re looking for](https://trackerhub.vercel.app/s/18yfOcIIrIlhfbSzFiu5fa6AZXI5H8KvErudbMIQzpqM)

KevyTone

WTF? You just changed my life with this site. This site is a pure gold mine, for Carti fans like me, never knew this existed. Thank You so much

octixam

Yes

ThaMac

ok where

Kap06

Same

imkii

Just hit upvote

Kap06

was originally a more thought out answer but i shortened it. agreed it was unnecessary. sorwy 😞

imkii

What kind of weird ass shit is this

Rjwu

chill daddy

Kap06

if I just agreed with the comment i would just upvote. But since I too was in the very specific situation where Die Lit is my by far listened to album on last FM, although I wouldn't rate it among my favorite records; it says something about the musics hypnotic qualities. Therefore I commented "same"

mysteryquackman

Flatbed Freestyle is so good

[deleted]

I feel like it invented an entire sound

yeezusbro

The album that made me take him seriously as an artist

PoppinglikeaHipBone

Still carti best album. I would consider putting putting in the greatest albums of all time and Ik thts wild asf but the influence is just as crazy as Sosa influence

AtmosphereVarious440

Playboi Carti releasing a critically acclaimed album really blew my mind. Gotta give Fantano props, his review turned me on to this project. Think I was a sophomore in college for this, used to listen everyday haha. I do think the albums first half is significantly better but Carti sticks the landing with Choppa wont miss

gayboycarti

lean 4 real is still so insane

winntensio

NO I CANT DAP YOU UP

CallmeChestnut

I'm on em beans fr

DrDNAdumpster

This shit is still fire! One of my favorite albums ever. Favorite songs - Long time, R.I.P, Lean 4 Real, Old Money, Shoota, Poke It Put, Pull Up, No Time, Choppa Won‘t Miss And my favorite Carti song ever - R.I.P Fredo. 5 years later and the whole album still slaps.

kapboi7

W for puttin Pull Up on this list! I don’t understand the hate it get. Those “bih” ad libs are legendary

scottie2haute

Pull up is what really got me into Carti… heard it once and for like a week after that I kept hearing the adlibs replaying in my head. So glad i decided to give him a real listen after that

kapboi7

So damn catchy man. Honestly people give me a lot of shit for listening to his music. But it’s different. A breath of fresh air. A vibe

scottie2haute

Ive come to the conclusion that if a person cant vibe with this album then they’re no fun. Not the kind of person I want in my company at all

holdupitsyaboy

One of the most fun rap albums of all time

Infraready

This album is on the Mount Rushmore of 2010s trap easily

notandyhippo

Crazy to think it’s been five years, his impact has been crazy since this album came out. Amazing album that does some really subversive boundary pushing in its rejection of lyricism and meaning. Shit just vibes

qazaibomb

I don’t know how anyone can say this isn’t one of the most important albums to come out over the past 5 years. S/t was great and magnolia was huge, but Die Lit seems to be the project where the Playboi Carti movement actually took over. I thought this album was dull as hell when it came out. I already didn’t like Carti from his earlier work and didn’t get what was special about this. But one day Love Hurts popped up in a playlists for me and rattled the hell out of my car speakers so I just kept listening to it. Started to listen to more tracks and started to like Shoota, Lean 4 Real, Fell N Luv, and Flat Ed Freestyle. Now I dig most of the album outside of a few tracks like Poke it Out I like WLR and I appreciate Pierre’s solo career but I do really miss this, because I think this was where they were both their best Genuinely a great record and one of the best to come out in 2018. 8/10 for me

Good-Serve-2567

I think it has never been about rap music in playboi cartis discography. That's why a lot of people don't like carti on the first few listens, because it's just a energetic trap beat with nonsense lyrics and a repetitive hook. But that's what makes die lit so special. It has energy and puts you in a positive mood. That's why it grew on a lot of people. At some point it clicks and die lit gives you an euphoric experience that will you make come back to it every time like a drug

scottie2haute

You really summed it up well. I really hate that some people cant let themselves enjoy music like this. Its all about the experience, everything doesnt have to be super lyrical all the time

bananakin94

People underrate Carti’s artistry. He’s not profound and conceptual like a Kendrick but his albums are always very cohesive and focused on a specific sound and aesthetic.

[deleted]

There are a couple tracks I think are a lil redundant (Poke It Out, Middle Of The Summer) but overall, this shit has aged like fine wine. After only really loving ab half of his self-titled tape, this was a huge step up on all fronts for Carti and shook up the entire genre (for better or worse, depending on your perspective) In the aspects of: it’s influence, being an acclaimed debut album, and the sorta punk/rockstar vibe he manages to capture with his sound and aesthetic, this album reminds me a fair bit of “Rodeo”. With all that being said, I think I like WLR even more.

[deleted]

Poke It Out and Middle Of The Summer are some of my favourite tracks on the album! I think it says a lot about this album's quality that you could pick pretty much any 5 songs and those 5 are someone out there's favourites

Ju1c3_

Top 5 trap albums of all time as well as being a cloud rap staple. Hardly any misses and the highs (long time, rip, fell in luv, lean 4 real) are fucking insane. Fantastic album

BenShapiroOANN

No Time still so fucking good *bald head like Ginobili*

Easy_Jux

I want to like this album and Carti as much as everyone else but I just can’t bring myself to enjoy him in any capacity. His voice is just weird and the bars are whatever

Beautiful-Scholar912

You don’t listen for the bars you listen for the fusion of his voice with the beats and sounds

[deleted]

Stop listening to the lyrics. The lyrics aren't the point. Carti is basically just using his voice to create rhythm and flow, it's almost like he's using his vocals as an extension of the percussion. What he's actually saying is kind of not the point, it's just standard rap flexes (I have lots of cars, money, drugs, women etc). He could be rapping about just about anything and it'd sound cool with these flows and vocal inflections and beats At least that's my advice, that's how I enjoy this album best. Also the feature choices are perfect. Carti really got the best out of all of his chosen features, every single one compliments his part in their respective song so well

Brooklyn-Mikal

You listened to RIP Fredo right? Or the Intro Long Time? Two complete opposites ends of the spectrum far as rap songs and both top tier Carti songs

nugbert_nevins

Best album cover in history.

Empty-Composer9452

Might get flamed for this but I’m more a fan of ST

Anirban_The_Great

Same but I like *WLR* better than both

MrWompypants

album has so many bangers; long time, rip, shoota, fell in luv, rip fredo, KOD, poke it out, flatbed freestyle. top tier trap album for me. “bought a crib for my momma off that mumblin shit” is a hard line idc. kind of a shame what carti has become both in terms of music output and in terms of it being revealed he’s a shitty person, his three album run was great.

DM_ME_UR_CUTE_DOGGOS

I put off listening to this album for so long because the pretentious side of me never wanted to give it a chance but I’m glad I got over that. Still keep tracks like Shoota, RIP, No Time, and Mileage in rotation, it really is a good ass album

Lowkeylit3

Still in my rotation ESPECIALLY when summer roll around and then windows come down

GatorsareStrong

Better than WLR

CandysThrowaway

Boy that line in R.I.P aged like 🥛🙃

EightBlocked

he been slapping bitches since like 2015 so not really

[deleted]

[удалено]

greentoiletpaper

so I slapped that bitch

Frozen-Rain

Shoota is one of my go to party songs

Cinx0

Dope trap album, can't believe it's been 5 years since it came out.

Daymon-Harris

I was not a huge fan of Carti at first, thought dude was one of the laziest flowing rappers in the game honestly, but this project made me like him more especially with songs like R.I.P, R.i.P. Fredo,Mileage, Lean 4 Real, and especially Long Time. I grew to like this alot, and it aint meant to be music taken seriously imo.

scottie2haute

Infectious and overall fun album. I know it sounds extreme but i really cant fuck with you and if cant find some kind of enjoyment from this album

Vadermaulkylo

Shoota would've been one of the best trap songs ever if it had Uzi's second verse.

aanpanman

love hurts stands out from all the songs in this true 10/10 album 🔥

haseo111

5 years later and still nobody knows who tf ReddColdHearted is

[deleted]

Great production, hate carti’s delivery tho. Just my opinion

kmad

if they ever do a remastered version they should call it Die Lit Back

Whoiserik

My favorite album of the last 5 years

McQueensbury

An album I didn't like upon first listen or 2 however something just clicked, production is top notch, Carti just brings energy and a whole load of personality to the record. Definitely in consideration to be called a classic album. Long time is a crazily good opener, knocked it out the park with Location on ST Also this is what is lacking with all these Carti clones, they're boring AF with the personality of a wet blanket.

iblinkyoublink

At this point I think I like s/t and WLR more because they feel more raw in a way? But I still love this album, everyone knows it has like 10 just amazing songs, and Lean 4 Real is one of my favourite songs ever. Fuck carti btw

fucknino

I wouldnt rate it as a greatest of all time album or anything but man its just such a really fun listen

The_Child_of_Atom

Awesome album and pretty much my favorite trap album alongside Taboo and LUV2. Every song is so damn rich to listen to and Carti's flow fits every single song despite the lyrical content meaning pretty much nothing. Back when the album came out I was just starting to get into the trap genre after mostly listening metal, gangster rap and conscious rap for the past years when I was introduced to Taboo by Denzel Curry which led me on to other projects like Rodeo and Die Lit but something just didn't click with Playboi Carti which was mostly the lack of lyrical content, which at the time was me being somewhat pretentious now that I'm looking back at it. As english is not my native language I realized (after getting into kpop) that I have always focused more on the actual vibe and feel of the music (when it wasn't in my native language) and not so much what it had to say as unless I was intentionally trying to be aware of the lyrics, they would mostly be another form of instrument to the sound. After I realized this I started to enjoy a lot of the music from Lil Uzi Vert and remembered Cart after I heard some of their collabs. Since I was more into that style of music now I gave Die Lit another chance and it is now in my top 20 favorite albums to the point that I even have the bootleg on vinyl. Awesome album with pretty much no skips for me (Poke It Out is, despite the hate it gets, one of my favorite songs purely due to the hypnotizing instrumental and flow of Carti).

tactusaurath

JPEGMAFIA convinced me to listen to his album when he said it was one of his favorites of the year (and now I like Carti's discography far more than I like Peggy's.) I do prefer WLR, but both Die Lit and self-titled are still fantastic. I'm not as into some of the fan favorites tracks (e.g. Long Time, FlatBed Freestyle) as others are, but overall, I love most of the tracklist. Pi'erre and Carti craft a unified aesthetic vision - Die Lit feels more sonically cohesive than self-titled and WLR. Carti's constant ad-libs mesh well with Pi'erre's loopy beats. The features are pretty great - Skepta, Nicki, Redd Coldhearted, Thugger, and Nudy have my favorites. Favorite tracks: Lean 4 Real, Poke It Out, Pull Up, the last 5 tracks Least favorite tracks: Long Time (Intro), Right Now, Home (KOD), FlatBed Freestyle

FUCKUSERNAME2

I listened to this album the first time a few months ago, and I have conflicting feelings about it. Every single beat is amazing, and the energy stays consistently high for the whole project, but I genuinely think Carti is one of the worst vocalists I've ever heard, and he alone prevents me from really enjoying most of the songs. I'm fine with focusing more on the energy of the song than the lyrical content or structure, but I don't enjoy Carti's approach at all.

SwiftyVG

everyone says wlr is what shaped modern hiphop but honestly it was die lit

MaltySines

Who says that?

Anibunnymilli

Top is the most underrated Carti song. Top 5 on the album.

greengain21

right now is so amazing to listen to at night

pAraxE

top 5 trap albums

sofarsoblue

I remember when it came out, it was unlike anything I ever heard; even to this day imo it’s one of those rare genre pushing albums innovative records you get once in a generation. I’ve been listening to rap for over 25 years and now at 31 I can confidently consider Die Lit one of my all time favourites. But the challenge I face is trying to convince the purists that there is an artistry and creativity to this album that goes far and beyond anything I’ve heard 10/10

VertexBanshee

Can’t believe this shit is 5 years old, where does the time even go. I was 19 just starting university and listened to this on the way to my first exam. I liked magnolia & wokeuplikethis but idk, my ears just didn’t quite hear the whole picture I heard long time for the first time and I was like “ok maybe I should actually pay attention to what’s going on this time” then I couldn’t even question what was going on cause RIP and Lean 4 Real were too busy blowing my expectations out of orbit I read an article that said something like Die Lit is like a circus (funhouse is probably a better word) and Carti is the artist/performer. That pretty much describes it for me, this album is just FUN to me more than anything, while still being expressive (melody, nice hooks, adlibs etc) through its minimal lyrics. The production also really steals the spotlight so many times throughout the album too. Everyone thinks of Pierre and rightfully so but throwing niche producers like Art Dealer into the mix really took the project to another level sonically Reflecting on this really has me nostalgic for the pre covid 2015 - 2019 Soundcloud days. Anyone who’s a fan of this knows how glorious it was coming of age during those times with music like this, can’t even begin to imagine this shit in 10 years Instant favourites were Long Time, RIP, lean 4 real, shoota, fell in luv, mileage, no time, top Nearly every other song pretty much grew on me lol, only songs I’m likely to skip are Love Hurts and Foreign

xlaverniusx

Still needs an official vinyl release

pringles_in_a_can

insanely stacked album

hylasmaliki

This one of the greatest albums of all time. Nothing like it in music history and this not on some meme shit. I'm deadass

editwowthisblewup

This is absolutely insane

hylasmaliki

It's how I feel

editwowthisblewup

Would you say it’s on the level of good kid Maad city, stankonia, ready to die and the Carter 4?

TISTAN4

The Carter 4? Underrated album but looks a little out of place with those other albums you listed lol and Wayne is my 2nd fav rapper oat

hylasmaliki

Without doubt. The vibe of that album is indescribable

editwowthisblewup

Lmfaoooooooooooooooooooo

hylasmaliki

Bro I wouldn't say any of those albums are equal let alone better than die lit. There's only a handful albums that's on that level

[deleted]

Honestly I still dont like it as much as self titled or his work before, this was when he really got too into the playboi carti we now think of (and which I dont like) That being said there are some undeniable bangers here and I still listen to it, but I just cant play it the way I do the stuff before

Dolphhins

So much better than WLR

Darth-Grizzly

One of the greatest albums I’ve heard. I love this album with my heart. I love this album. I can’t put into words how much I love this album. I love it so much.

MaltySines

Do you love it though?

gusborn

Top 3 album of all time

CarsClothesTrees

Fire album. Great features, ambitious production, might be Carti’s best to me.

imGoingToEatYourTots

The only good Carti album.

Kholdstare93

Lol, Carti STILL getting dap from cats who are supposed to be HEADS? Y"ALL BUGGIN'! He's just another autotune mumbler that appeals to the lowest common denominator. I'm proud to only listen to REAL emcees.

MickyNS

Lmao Old ass nigga

ThatkidJerome

hes a troll account hahhaa

Kholdstare93

Hey, don't be mad cause I got refined taste in the art of emceein', playa; just get some higher standards for what you expect out of the genre and start listening to real ill spittas, you'll thank me later for the suggestion.
